Are u igbo? If u are, ask ur parents or any older person in ur family, they Wil quickly tell u that onitsha indigens r not igbos. Their rulership, their marriage rites, their burial rites, their mascurades, their traditional clothes n attire are very different from thaf of igbos.

If ur not igbo, den take what I told u without arguments.

classic onitsha statements that I heard several times while i did my Nysc in anambra is "Nwa Onye igbo" and "Do u think we are igbos who don't go to skol"

This prompted me to ask my mother who d onitsha people really are, she told be they are settlers from Edo state...Old Bini empire.

They have ""Obi of onitsha"" which is culled from "oba of benin"

Have u ever heard about obi of enugu or obi of nnewi or obi of abakilikihuh

PoliticsRe: What Do You Think Of This Write Up On BIAFRA. by tonychristopher: 12:51pm On Oct 25, 2015
moscow37d:
So recent Biafran protests have got me thinking, but I have been skeptical about airing my views because of perceived reactions.

DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE PERSONAL VIEWS, AND I, IN NO WAY CLAIM SUPREMACY OF KNOWLEDGE. FOR THE "GREYS" WHO THINK I AM TOO YOUNG TO SPEAK OF THIS SUBJECT, PLEASE PERMIT THIS CHILD TO SPEAK, THEN CORRECT HIM IF HE IS WRONG. FOR IGNORANCE CAN ONLY BE KNOWN IF IT IS AIRED, AND CAN ONLY BE CORRECTED IF IT IS KNOWN.

My points are as follows:

1. According to worldometers the median age of Nigeria is 17.8, hence an "average " did not experience the civil war.

2.This is the age statistics of Nigeria as at 2014 is as follows:
0-14 years: 43.2%
15-24 years: 19.3%
25-54 years: 30.5%
55-64 years: 3.9%
65 years and over: 3.1% (indexmundi.com)
In simpler statistics 93% of Nigerians were 5 and below in 1967.

3. According to Wikipedia, youth age range is between 18-35. Hence no present day Nigerian youth saw the civil war.

My first question: since over 90% percent of us neither saw the civil war nor participated actively, and our youth were born 10 years after the war, where is all the hate and agitation from?

4. The major driving force of Biafra is the igboland, but the Biafran map includes states like Cross river, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom state. This makes Biafra a culturally diverse state. I am igbo and i currently live in Akwa Ibom state, and we share no similarity in custom or language. How then can we live together as "one Biafra" when we can't tolerate the cultural diversity of Nigeria.

5. The Igbo tribe would become the majority tribe in Biafra, while the others who constitute the oil producing states hence the 'rich boys' would become minority. "How can the wealth most especially that from oil be distributed, when the majority is in power and the minority have the resource?"
So therefore, a time may come when the "minority" may decide to be free, because no man wants to live in another man's shadow.

6. Igbos are generally regarded as traders, and the lifeblood of their markets like Onitsha Main market and Ariaria international market is found in Lagos seaport where most of the goods come from. In Biafra, Lagos becomes another country hence tax and import/ export levies would increase drastically and logistics would become more difficult.
The other option is to trade via the Calabar Port, Delta Port or Rivers Port at Port Harcourt, and Onne. These ports are only found in the non-igbo states, hence another potential challenge.

7. What happens to Biafrans that have their livelihood rooted deeply in non biafran states? What happens to the igbos that constitute the majority of Alaba international market?
Would naturalization take place or would they liquidate assets and return to Biafra and start afresh?

8. Finally, the question of rulership. Who rules Biafra?
Currently, most Igbo people especially those in Abia and Imo state are dissatisfied with the condition of their states. They complain of bad government, massive looting, poor infrastructures etc, and they are currently ruled by Igbo governors.
If Biafra is formed who would rule then?
I believe it would be the same people that they complain of, and as you can see the cycle of pain and complaints would continue.

Problems are fixed by inward reflections not outward projections and blame shifting.

PLEASE BEAR WITH ME, FOR A CHILD WHO DID NOT SEE THE WAR HAS SPOKEN.
One thing is that this report is biased and another thing is that you are not Igbo....pls stop whining....

Tell us the difference in Ibibio culture and igbo

Chapter 25

On the issue of divorce and women

21 Never lose your head over a woman's beauty, and don't try to win a woman because she is wealthy.

22 When a man is supported by his wife, there is sure to be anger, arrogance, and humiliation.

23 A bad wife will make her husband gloomy and depressed, and break his heart. Show me a timid man who can never make up his mind, and I will show you a wife who doesn't make her husband happy.

24 Sin began with a woman, and we must all die because of her.

25 Don't let a bad wife have her way, any more than you would allow water to leak from your cistern. 26 If she won't do as you tell her, divorce her.

inlandtaipan:
I have taken my time to ponder why the agitation for secession is whelming within Igbo's and not with yorubas/hauas and I have come to a conclusion that history has a part to play.

Yoruba's/hausas generally believe in monarchy system of ruling, From time immemorial, we have been hearing of Oyo empire, ijesha kingdom, ife kingdom from Yoruba land and sokoto caliphate, kano emirate etc from Hausa land. These kingdoms are a system where lot of villages submit to a particular ruler and pay homage to him, unlike in Igbo land, nobody wants to be ruled. The only king of a major town in Igbo land is obi of Onitsha and that's because Onitsha people adopt little Benin element and even obi of Onitsha doesn't lord over anybody.
In Yoruba land, you see oba of Lagos, ooni of ife, olu of Ibadan, deji of akure, awujale of ijebu, alake of egba etc, all the major towns in the north have emirs lording over them. You can never hear things like eze of awka, eze of Enugu, obi of nnewi, eze of aba, eze of port Harcourt or eze of umuahia.

What I'm trying to say? It is a habit for yorubas/Hausa to merge with any other body to form a single kingdom (Nigeria in this case). This monarchy system doesn't work in the East. An average yoruba man respects oba than the governor of the state, same as a hasua man will respect emir.
Take ijebu as an example, we have lots and lots of communities coming together to form one kingdom, same as other kingdoms in Yoruba and hasua land.

The coming together of a thing is also evident in the settlement pattern of the our villages, an average igbo settlement is in such a way that people build compounds away from each other, nobody wants to be lorded by anyone. But when you go to the north and west, they build close to each other and appoint a ruler, they are historically submissive.

This is a major factor firing the Biafra agitation and since its a culture in the east, i think no one can stop the agitation, we are different people. We don't do thing same way.
Pointless submission ....the reason is without Igbo...Nigeria is doomed

Where is brave Ibo to rescue Gregory Iloheke from the flogging canes of Yoruba?
When about 30 men ambush a man in their own land and flog him..that's your definition of bravery ?
Inviting a man by a supposed king..the king has no guts to even tell the man what he wants . and you call that bravery and heroic ?

jstbeinhonest:
A former Secretary to the
Government of the Federation,
Chief Olu Falae, has said there
would have been ethnic war
between the Fulani and the
Yoruba people, if his abductors
had killed him.
He said this on Thursday while
narrating his ordeal to the
immediate former Minster of
Education, Mallam Ibrahim
Shekarau, who paid him a
sympathy visit over the incident.
Falae said, “God has a way of
doing His things. I know God just
decided to spare my life; God
really saved my life. They tortured
me, stripped me naked and did a
lot of things to me in their den.
They attempted to killed me but
they did not succeed.
“I also thank God for making me
to survive the ordeal because if I
they had killed me there, many
lives would have been lost too, it
would have become an ethnic
war between the Yoruba and the
Fulani. So I thank God that the
matter did not get to that level.”
Speaking, Shekarau said the only
solution to the security
challenges in the country was for
the people of the country to
embrace community policing,
where everybody would be a
policeman in the community.
“The issue of security should be
the concern of everybody, not
only the policemen. Our
government should do
everything possible to encourage
community policing. Everybody
should be a policeman,
everybody should be his
brother’s keeper. We should
learn how to immediately report
any act criminality to the security.
“It is very unfortunate that this
kind of thing happened to an
elderly man like Chief Falae, who
had served this country
meritoriously”, he stated.
