Nimo Chief Murdered! Group Demands Top-Level Investigation

A group, Nimo Concerned Citizens for Good Governance, has called on the Government of Anambra State and the State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of a High Chief of the town and member of the Igwe’s Cabinet, High Chief Engr Augustine Ezedinachi.


Ezedinachi, it will be recalled, was abducted at his farm in the village by gun totting masked men who had earlier tied his workers and then whisked him away when he entered the farm. Despite the payment of a ransom demand of N15m, the community was shocked by the discovery of the man’s body the next day, with his head and body badly mutilated.



Reacting to this development, Mr Paul Ifesinachi, spokesman of Nimo Concerned Citizens, is calling for a thorough investigation into the murder with a view to ensuring that justice is done.


In a press statement by the group signed by Ifesinachi, and made available to the press, the group said only the arrest and prosecution of those behind the killing would satisfy the family and the town.


The release read, ‘While the family and community grieve, we call on the state government and the police authorities to investigate this crime and bring those who were involved or sponsors of this heinous crime to face full justice.


‘The gruesome murder of Chief Engr Augustine Ezedinachi of Nimo, is one of the latest in the series of high profiles cases that ought to be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted if Anambra state is serious about fighting crime.

‘Chief Ezedinachi, an industrialist and farmer from Nimo, in Njikoka LGA, was abducted at his farm in Nimo as he arrived in the morning. His workers had been tied by his abductors prior to his arrival. Despite the fact that a huge ransom was paid, his body with badly mutilated skull, was found the next morning adjacent to a rear fence of his establishment.


‘Nimo has been engulfed in crisis for over a year now, especially after a court judgement sacking the de facto Town Union Executive. Prior to this incident, a lawyer from the community had alleged in a voice note that Chief Ezedinachi was to be announced the Chairman of a Caretaker Committee being established by the State Government as an interim measure to calm the heated community.

‘On the day the Caretaker Committee was to be announced, Chief Ezedinachi was abducted.

‘But the subsequent announcement by the State Government neither had Chief Ezedinachi as the Chairman nor member of the Caretaker Committee.


‘It is thus not difficult to know why the perpetrators, who are likely sponsored hands, went ahead to not only abduct Chief Ezedinachi, but to murder him, even after the ransom requested was paid in US Dollars.


‘These sequence of events leading up to the abduction seriously suggests ties to the ongoing imbroglio within the Nimo Community, especially with the plethora of threats such as the voice notes and incitement by those who feel disappointed with the court sacking of the de facto Nimo Town Development Union executive.’

The recent comments by Festus Keyamo, SAN, on the emergence of a new opposition coalition aligning with the ADC appear to rest on a contested reading of the law regarding political party membership and defection under Nigeria’s constitutional and electoral framework.

Keyamo argues that “by law, you cannot operate from, or belong to two or multiple political parties,” and concludes that the coalition’s open declaration for ADC constitutes automatic abandonment of their previous parties.

With due respect, this is a sweeping assertion not supported by law or precedent.

In Nigerian electoral jurisprudence, what determines party membership is formal registration and recognition by the party in question—not mere expressions of sympathy, ideological alignment, or coalition activities.

The Supreme Court has consistently held that defection—when it carries legal consequences—only occurs where there is clear, formal, and provable membership or candidacy under a different political party. Participation in political movements, forums, or coalitions does not meet this threshold.

Mere affiliation or support for the ADC in a coalition arrangement is not equivalent to defection, unless it is shown that individuals have formally joined the ADC by registering with the party, accepting its membership card, or contesting elections under its platform.

Keyamo’s argument further disregards relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), including Sections 65(2)(b), 68(1)(g), and 109(1)(g), which provide that an elected official may lose their seat only if they defect to another political party "without a division" in the party under whose platform they were elected.

Crucially, neither the Constitution nor the Electoral Act penalizes expressions of dissent or political coalition-building.

In fact, coalitions are legitimate democratic strategies, provided they do not translate into formal double membership—something both legally and administratively impossible under INEC regulations.

Across democracies, coalition politics is not only lawful but also a common mechanism for challenging entrenched incumbency and rallying fragmented opposition forces.

To treat such coalitions—especially those not fielding candidates or submitting nominations—as automatic defection is legally flawed and politically misleading.

This is political alignment, not political abandonment.

Moreover, the right to freedom of association, guaranteed under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution, entitles Nigerians—including politicians—to freely associate for lawful political purposes. Coalition-building is one such legitimate activity.

Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is formally notified of a change in party membership—typically through nomination documents or official party communications—no legal consequence can arise.

Electoral disqualification in Nigeria is triggered by concrete acts, not political rhetoric or speculative alignment.

If INEC has not received or confirmed such membership transfers, then no legal defection has occurred.

Keyamo’s comments, while perhaps politically convenient, stretch the boundaries of law and logic.

Coalition politics—even if unsettling to the ruling party—is neither unconstitutional nor illegal.

The movement to ADC does not constitute automatic defection from the PDP, LP, or APC, unless backed by verifiable registration or nomination under the ADC banner.

In a democracy, the rule of law—not propaganda—must prevail.

Onitsha Drug Market Row: APGA Chieftain Defends Soludo, Tackles Ukachukwu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has defended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, over allegations linking him to the closure of the Onitsha Head Bridge drug market.

The APGA Chief described the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.

Obigwe, who issued a statement on Monday, dismissed a viral video purportedly blaming Governor Soludo and the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for the market’s closure.

According to him, the video—allegedly circulated by an associate of APC governorship candidate Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu—was an attempt to shift responsibility for the closure onto the state government.

"The video falsely claimed that traders in the drug market died as a result of the closure and sought to hold Governor Soludo and the DG of NAFDAC responsible,” Obigwe said.

He clarified that NAFDAC, being a federal agency, acted independently in the closure of the market and that the state government played no role in the decision.

“Governor Soludo had no hand in the closure of the market. However, out of compassion for innocent traders who were not dealing in counterfeit drugs, he intervened to seek a resolution,” he explained.

Obigwe stated that the Governor’s intervention led to positive outcomes for many of the affected traders.

“Any attempt to link Governor Soludo to the closure is a clear misrepresentation of facts.

“NAFDAC is a federal agency under the APC-led Federal Government, and it operates without interference from state governments, Obigwe maintained.

He accused political opponents of attempting to exploit the situation for cheap political gains.

Obigwe added, "Those who cannot fault Governor Soludo’s performance are resorting to propaganda.

"The people of Anambra are proud of a Governor who is delivering on his promises and should support his second-term bid to continue his good work.”

Governor Soludo has received commendation in various quarters for reforms in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public service delivery since assuming office.

The launch of Solution Fun City is not just a statement of ambition—it is a promise that life in Anambra will not only be lived, but enjoyed.

Yet, even as laughter now echoes through the grounds of the Fun City, a more troubling sound continues to haunt our communities—the unsettling echo of insecurity.

Just months after the launch of the state’s special security outfits, Udo Ga-Chi and Agụnaechemba, the spectre of insecurity has reared its head once again.

The recent spate of brazen kidnappings and violent attacks—even in Awka, the beating heart of the state—is a disturbing commentary on how quickly peace can be undermined if not vigilantly protected.

It is an irony too bitter to ignore: while families gather in parks, criminals roam the streets. While children ride carousels, some parents are snatched from the roads in daylight terror.

And so, we are reminded of the ancient but piercing warning: “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them…” This is not a call to paranoia—but a sober caution against complacency. Celebration must not lead to slackened vigilance.

Governor Soludo’s efforts in boosting infrastructure and urban renewal are laudable and visible, but the foundation of all progress is security.

If residents do not feel safe on the roads, in their businesses, or even on school runs, then the beauty of development becomes hollow.

This editorial serves as both a commendation and a clarion call. The joy and pride sparked by the Solution Fun City must be matched—if not surpassed—by a renewed, intensified focus on security and community safety.

The Solution Governor must now double down on the operational effectiveness of Udo Ga-Chi and Agụnaechemba, ensuring they evolve beyond ceremonial announcements into active deterrents and rapid-response forces.

A city of fun cannot thrive beside a shadow of fear.

Now that you have built a haven for happiness, protect it fiercely. Secure not just the parks, but the paths that lead to them. Guard not just the laughter, but the lives behind the laughter.

Anambra November 8 Poll: Soludo Didn't Beg Ganduje Anything- APGA

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has dismissed as false a report alleging that Governor Chukwuma Soludo sent the National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, to beg the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

He described the claim as politically motivated and baseless, adding that it was aimed at misleading the public ahead of the upcoming Anambra governorship election.

Obigwe, who issued the statement in Awka on Saturday, described the report as “a desperate propaganda stunt” allegedly sponsored by opposition elements.

“What I will say about the above-referred news report is that election season is a time when desperate opposition candidates use their propagandists to spread false information. The story in question is one of those cooked-up lies,” he stated.

The APGA media coordinator maintained that Governor Soludo remains focused on delivering good governance and would not engage in underhanded political manoeuvres.

“Governor Soludo that I know—and that Nigerians also know well—is a man of integrity and confidence. There are things he simply cannot do. Anyone claiming he sent the APGA National Chairman to beg Ganduje is merely trying to mislead the public,” Obigwe said.

Obigwe also addressed the recent leadership changes in the APC, stating that the party’s internal affairs have no bearing on APGA’s strategy for the November election.

He urged the public to ignore the report, describing it as a distraction from “a drowning political camp.”

Reaffirming his support for Governor Soludo’s administration, Obigwe expressed optimism about the governor’s re-election prospects.

The National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has urged the public to disregard recent reports suggesting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has neglected the Aguleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Friday, Obigwe clarified that the comments attributed to former Governor Willie Obiano were, in fact, made by his younger brother, Evaristus Obiano.

According to him, the claims do not reflect the realities on ground.

Obigwe maintained that the Soludo administration has delivered notable developmental projects in Aguleri, including the construction of a new General Hospital in Enugu Otu Aguleri and the near completion of the Enugu Otu Aguleri road.

He also cited the revival of the Otuocha water scheme, aimed at providing clean water to Aguleri and surrounding communities.

On political developments ahead of the November 8th governorship election, Obigwe dismissed fears that recent defections to the opposition party would impact Governor Soludo’s chances, expressing confidence in APGA’s grassroots strength and continued support from the people of Aguleri.

Anambra Poll: ADC’s John Nwosu Pays ₦50m Campaign Levy, Says Soludo Has Not Paid

In a demonstration of commitment to the rule of law, the John Nwosu Campaign Organisation and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have paid the mandatory ₦50 million levy required of governorship candidates and political parties for the display of campaign advertisements and materials in Anambra State.

The payment was made to the Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA), where the agency’s Chief Executive Officer and other officials were on hand to receive representatives of the ADC and the John Nwosu Campaign Organisation. ANSAA subsequently issued an official receipt and certificate of compliance.

This development makes the ADC the second political party to fully comply with the state's campaign signage and advertisement regulations ahead of the 2025 Anambra governorship election.

In a pointed remark aimed at the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Nwosu Campaign alleged that the party’s candidate, Governor Charles Soludo, and his running mate—despite being the enforcers of the regulation—have not fulfilled the same legal obligation.

“This is a failure to lead by example and a reflection of the punitive approach to internally generated revenue (IGR) collection in the state,” the campaign said in a statement.

The campaign further criticized the ₦50 million levy, describing it as a barrier to fair competition and a tool to stifle opposition voices.

“The campaign advertisement levy, even if well-intentioned, does not provide a level playing field for candidates,” the statement read. “It is also designed to abridge free speech through executive fiat.”

ADC governorship candidate, Dr. John C. Nwosu, pledged to review the policy if elected governor.

“If by God’s grace I become the governor, such prohibitive laws will be amended to ensure fair electoral practices, equal opportunities, and a political environment that does not confer undue advantage on the incumbent,” he said.

Obigwe made the declaration on Thursday in a fiery statement, reacting to a social media article critical of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, titled “Prof Soludo does not behave like a Professor.”

He described the publication as a “senseless piece” written by a “hungry author and fool forever,” alleging that it was sponsored by Ukachukwu’s political camp.

“I know when he was given ₦5 million cash at a hotel in Awka as part payment for the dirty job he is doing for them. I'm not surprised that he authored that senseless piece against me — he must justify his pay,” Obigwe alleged.

He insisted that his support for Soludo is borne out of personal conviction and not financial inducement, unlike the “pay-as-you-go writer” who authored the controversial article.

Obigwe also launched a scathing attack on a certain female senator who was seen dancing Skelewu at a public function, calling the act disgraceful.

“I still maintain my stand that the Skelewu-dancing Senator proved to the whole world that she is not normal. She should bury her head in shame instead of moving around Anambra in the guise of campaigning for Ukachukwu,” he said.

He questioned the kind of values she would impart on her children and the Anambra women she is campaigning to lead, declaring that “there is nothing to learn from her.”

Obigwe maintained that the Anambra Government House is for serious-minded leaders, not entertainers, and vowed:
“Even if you pay me billions, I will not support Nicholas Ukachukwu’s dead-on-conception governorship ambition. It is Soludo/Ibezim or nothing till March 17, 2030.”

In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Obigwe said the duo lacked the moral standing to seek the support of Anambra people in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

“Let’s try and be calling a spade a spade and stop wasting time and effort in sugarcoating what is wrong to be right.

“My stand remains that Ekwunife does not have the moral justification to mobilise Anambra women to tell them to vote for the dead-on-conception Ukachukwu/Ekwunife governorship ticket," Obigwe said.

He described the duo as unfit persons who, according to him, have nothing meaningful to offer Anambra State.

“The good people of Anambra know very well that voting for them is tantamount to committing a suicidal mistake, and they will avoid it,” he added.

Obigwe, a vocal supporter of the Soludo-led administration, lauded Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s performance in office, urging voters to reward the APGA leadership with a renewed mandate.

“Governor Soludo’s administration has done marvellously well for Anambra people. Voting for the Soludo/Ibezim ticket on November 8th is the only way Anambra electorate will say thank you for the transformation of our State to the envy of other states in Nigeria,” he said.

The APGA Chief also took a swipe at Senator Ekwunife’s media aide, Tony Ezike, accusing him of attempting to distort facts in the media space over his comment titled,"Soludo 's desperation and the unprovoked attack on Ekwunife: A Threat to democracy in Anambra State."

“The general public should disregard the piece by Tony Ezike. He only made a futile effort to twist facts and stand truth on its head,” Obigwe stated.

As political campaigns intensify in Anambra State, the rhetoric is heating up, with APGA strategists making early moves to defend the party’s incumbency ahead of what promises to be a hotly contested election.

The National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has launched a scathing attack on Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

Obigwe, in a statement on Monday, cautioned Ekwunife against attempting to rewrite history, warning that her political past under the late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju’s administration is still fresh in the memory of Ndi Anambra.

“Let me refresh the memory of our people,” Obigwe said, “that Uche Ekwunife was a key player in the failed administration of late Chinwoke Mbadinuju.

"Though not a public office holder, she was a close ally who operated from the background. Her influence was significant and widely believed to have contributed to the failures of that government.”

During the Mbadinuju administration, schools in the state were shut down for nearly a year due to unpaid teachers’ salaries, a situation that left a lasting scar on the state’s educational sector.

The APGA chieftain’s remarks followed recent efforts by Ekwunife to mobilize Anambra women against the re-election bid of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

He questioned her moral standing to champion any political movement in the state, stating: “Ekwunife, now running with Nicholas Ukachukwu, lacks the moral justification to mobilise women or anyone in Anambra.

"The Ukachukwu/Ekwunife ticket is dead on arrival. Both of them are birds of the same feather with nothing meaningful to offer the state.”

Obigwe described the Soludo/Ibezim administration as one that is “steering the ship of Anambra in the right direction,” citing ongoing initiatives such as free antenatal and delivery services, free education at primary and secondary levels, and youth empowerment through the 1Youth 2Skills programme.

“Our women are wiser now. They will reject Ekwunife’s advice and support Governor Soludo for the continuation of the good works being done in Anambra.

" Soludo represents progress, and Ndi Anambra cannot afford to go back to the dark days of the Mbadinuju era,” he stated.

Obigwe declared: “It is Soludo for Governor till March 17, 2030, or nothing.”

The powerful and united Omambala clan in Anambra State has declared its support for the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Chukwuma Nwosu, ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.

The endorsement came on Sunday during a crucial meeting held in Umueri, where Nwosu was received by the leadership of the Omambala Union, led by its Chairman, Dr. Chike Obidigbo (Osisioma Umunya).

Several traditional rulers from across the Omambala local government areas — Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum, and Oyi — were in attendance.

Addressing the gathering, Nwosu shared his vision for Anambra State and emphasized the urgent need to rescue the state from what he described as stagnation under the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

EDITORIAL: FG, Don’t Kill Our Children’s Dreams Again With This Vocational Training Proposal

The Federal Ministry of Education’s recent initiative to convert all Federal Government Technical and Science Colleges into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres marks yet another bold attempt to equip citizens—especially the youth—with practical, industry-relevant skills aimed at tackling unemployment, poverty, and economic stagnation.

On paper, this is a laudable initiative. But experience teaches us caution.

We have seen such programmes launched with fanfare, only to wither into irrelevance.

We cannot afford for this to be just another grand announcement that quietly dies in the dust of neglect.

For decades, Nigeria has flirted with the idea of empowering its youth through skill acquisition schemes. Yet, the landscape is littered with the ruins of abandoned centres—taken over by weeds, rodents, and broken dreams.

Billions have been spent. Banners have been printed. Workshops have been held. And still, there is precious little to show for it.

We say this with urgency: this time must be different. This time must be real. This time, we must not kill our children's dreams again.

The TVET initiative must not go the ugly Nigerian way.

We call on all concerned authorities—particularly the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and all implementing partners—to treat this programme with the utmost seriousness and urgency.

Let it not be a bureaucratic charade. Let it not become another forgotten file in an air-conditioned office. Let it come alive in every village, town, and city across Nigeria.

At the heart of this programme’s success is a simple, critical factor: personnel.There must be an adequate number of qualified teachers, instructors, and assessors deployed to every centre.

And beyond deployment, these professionals must be motivated, respected, and paid promptly and regularly. You cannot expect a nation to build a skilled, competitive workforce on the backs of unpaid or disillusioned trainers. The welfare of instructors must be a top priority—not an afterthought.

Funding must be transparent, timely, and devoid of political or ethnic manipulation.

We have seen too many programmes hijacked by vested interests who siphon resources for personal or political gain. If this happens again, if corruption is allowed to rear its head once more, we risk not only wasting money—we risk pushing a new generation further into hopelessness, crime, and despair.

There must be rigorous monitoring and evaluation. Substandard centres should not be allowed to operate. Those who excel should be rewarded .

Quality assurance cannot be negotiable. If this programme is to succeed, it must produce a workforce that is globally competitive.

TVET is more than just education. It is survival. It is the key to unlocking Nigeria’s vast human capital.

From tailoring to ICT, carpentry to welding, mechanical works to the creative industries—these are not menial tasks. These are the engines of modern economies. But they must be done right.



Let the Ministry lead with vision. Let instructors teach with dignity. Let stakeholders supervise with integrity. And most importantly, let the Nigerian people believe again.

We cannot fail our children. Not again. Not this time.

Editorial: Solution Fun City And The Dilapidating Awka Township Stadium

When the late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, a former governor of Anambra State, conceived and began the construction of the Awka Township Stadium, he envisioned a vibrant hub for sports, youth development, and community pride.

Awarded at a contract sum of about ₦2 billion, the project held promise for generations to come.

However, like many good intentions in Nigeria’s political landscape, it was left to rot in the pages of abandoned dreams.

Nearly two decades later, it took the determined intervention of another former governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to revive and reshape that vision.

In the twilight of his administration, Obiano committed resources to breathe life back into the project.

He advanced it to a commendable level while simultaneously handling monumental infrastructure efforts like the Anambra International Airport (now the Chinua Achebe Airport) and the glittering International Convention Centre in Awka.

Upon the stadium's completion, it proudly hosted matches of top-tier Nigerian Premier League teams such as Enugu Rangers International and Heartland FC of Imo State.

It was, finally, a beacon of sporting pride for Ndi Anambra.

Yet today, the Awka Township Stadium stands like a ghost of its former promise.

Rather than building on this achievement, the current administration under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has turned a blind eye to the stadium’s potential.

When the governor initiated the “Solution Fun City” project just beside the stadium, many had hoped this would birth a grand recreational complex that integrates sports and leisure—a games village that unites youth culture, family fun, and athleticism in a single ecosystem.

Alas, what followed was the opposite.

The Solution Fun City grew in splendour, colour, and excitement, while the stadium next door was literally walled off—excluded from the dream.

The tall fences do more than physically separate the stadium from its neighbour; they symbolize neglect, abandonment, and poor planning.

Today, the stadium is a shadow of itself—its facilities deteriorating, its pitch unfit for competitive play, and its stands empty and sad. No one needs to be told it has been forsaken.

This is not just a tale of neglect; it is a failure of vision.

Stadiums are not mere concrete arenas. They are socioeconomic lifelines. They generate jobs—from maintenance crews to vendors.

They engage youths positively, drawing them away from crime and into discipline, teamwork, and national pride.

They attract sports tourism, hosting local and international tournaments that fill hotels, restaurants, and transport systems with paying visitors.

They build the kind of community spirit and pride that no theme park can replicate.

To isolate the stadium from the new wave of development is to deny Awka a complete and balanced growth.

Sports and fun are not mutually exclusive—they are complementary.

The decision to abandon one in favour of the other is not only shortsighted but deeply unfair to the people of the state, especially its youth.

As it stands, the juxtaposition of the loved Solution Fun City and the crumbling Awka Stadium is a sad metaphor for misplaced priorities.

It is time the Soludo administration rethinks this narrative.

The Awka Township Stadium deserves urgent revitalization and seamless integration into the broader recreational development ecosystem.

Fun without sports is like laughter in a tragedy—it can never truly be fun.

Tangible achievements—economic reform, job creation, improved security, and responsive governance—are the true hallmarks of electability.

Equally vital is inclusive leadership: a government that listens, empathizes, and acts in the public interest.

Trust is not conferred—it is earned.

As Soludo faces public scrutiny, voters will ask: Has he kept his promises? Has he moved beyond symbolic projects? Has he governed with both vision and compassion?

Fifteen challengers from various political parties will present their visions.

The people will ultimately decide: Should Soludo continue in office to consolidate his agenda, or should a new occupant take charge of Anambra’s future?

This election is about direction—whether to embrace continuity or pursue change.

Politics may not always align with personal fairness, but in a democracy, power rests with the people.

43 die in Anambra Communal Conflict, Soludo Approves N15m for Mass Burial

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved fifteen million naira for Ogwuaniocha community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State in support for the mass burial of the forty-three indigenes of the community who lost their lives during the internal crisis that rocked the community in November 2021.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Governor to the President General of Ogwuaniocha Progressive Association, Honourable Vitalis Ekweanua; in company of other stakeholders from the community in his office on Thursday, the State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barr Anthony Ifeanya, applauded the community for doing the needful and paving the way for peace to thrive.

Barrister Ifeanya, who announced Governor Soludo’s willingness to visit the community with developmental projects, vowed that the Ogwuaniocha must get everything that is due to them as host community under his watch.

Receiving the cheque, the President General, Honourable Ekweanua, disclosed that in their quest to achieve all the activities mapped out to restore lasting peace, they sourced fund and held the mass burial for the forty-three deceased members on 20th April 2025 and greatly appreciated Governor Soludo for his gesture.

Ekweanua, however, lamented that despite the state government effort, the community still remain under deserted atmosphere.

According him, the 15 million naira support is a welcome development, but the community is asking for more government presence in infrastructural development, etc.

"Ogwuaniocha community is completely deserted. Nothing good is happening here. "Our children don't longer go to school because the entire schools in the community (Primary and Secondary Schools were all destroyed due to the communal crisis.

"As I speak to you, about 90 percent houses including my house as the President General of the town was also destroyed beyond repair.

"Our healthcare facilities are also affected. Nothing good is happening here. We are currently helpless. We seriously need our solution governor to urgently intervene.

"The company drilling oil in our community is also our major challenged, ever since the commence operation in the area, we stopped farming and fishing due to the oil spelling and no compensation has been given to us.

"For the past three years, we have been living in fears, pain and hunger as a result of the crisis. Our kidnapped Traditional ruler has remain missing since the crisis broke out in November 2021 under the immediate past administration of governor Willie Obiano.

"We are appealing to governor Soludo to extend more of his kind-hearted agenda for Ndi-Anambra to our community by reconstructing the affected facilities and also build us a bridge at Ulasi river that would link Umunankwo to Ihiala Local Government Area of the State. And with this I believed, the community would regain back her lost glory.

"Soludo, being a God-send governor to Anambra, we will support him with 100/100 votes to ensure that he emerges victorious in the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.

EDITORIAL: ANSAA's N50m Levy On Anambra Guber Candidates: A Threat to Democracy

The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency's directive imposing a N50 million fee on governorship candidates for campaign permits is a brazen attempt to undermine the electoral process.

This exorbitant levy not only contravenes the Constitution but also disenfranchises candidates who lack financial muscle, thereby stifling democratic participation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is constitutionally empowered to regulate election matters, including governorship polls.

ANSAA's actions constitute a gross overreach, subjecting candidates to double jeopardy and unnecessary financial burdens.

This move threatens to skew the electoral playing field in favour of wealthy candidates, compromising the integrity of the process.

The claim that the fee ensures orderliness and prevents visual pollution is a thinly veiled justification for an illegal act.

The agency's functions, as established by the Anambra State government, do not extend to regulating election matters.

To ensure a free, fair, and inclusive electoral process, the Anambra State Government should immediately rescind the N50 million levy directive and allow the Independent National Electoral Commission to perform its constitutional duties without interference.

The commission should also assert its authority to regulate election matters in Anambra and ensure that the electoral process adheres to democratic principles.

By taking these steps, we can protect the integrity of the electoral process and uphold the rights of citizens to participate in free and fair elections, unencumbered.

The people of Anambra deserve an election that is not tainted by illegal levies and bureaucratic strong-arming.

In a democracy, the right to participate in elections should not be contingent on one's financial capacity.

Ultimately, ANSAA must recognize that federal laws govern elections, including governorship polls.Any state law conflicting with federal regulations is invalid to the extent of its inconsistency.

The agency should retreat from this overreach and allow the electoral process to unfold under the regulatory framework established by federal law.

The democracy we are celebrating today is a pale imitation of the one we truly desired, far removed from the vision of 1993 when Nigerians united behind Chief MKO Abiola's philanthropic spirit and ideals.

It is also a disconnect between the democratic ideals Nigerians envisioned in 1999 when we bid farewell to military rule.


The harsh realities of our so-called democracy are evident in the plundering of our commonwealth by a privileged few under the iron grip of oligarchy.

Crippling unemployment, killing hunger, glaring inequality, and blatant disregard for constitutionality and the rule of law have become the hallmarks of our so-called democracy.

Corruption is entrenched, with those in power amassing wealth at the expense of the masses.

The electoral process, meant to be a cornerstone of democracy, has been undermined by malpractices and manipulation.

The 2023 general elections were marred by reports of corrupt practices, ballot snatching, and judicial abracadabra, leading to a crisis of confidence in the electoral process and the institutions responsible for conducting elections.

The consequences of these actions are evident in the struggles of Nigerians to survive, denied access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

Insecurity is rampant, with citizens living in fear of their lives and property.

The press, once a watchdog of government excesses, is increasingly being muzzled, and human rights are being trampled upon.

To address these challenges, we need to prioritize electoral reform, strengthen our institutions, and promote transparency and accountability in governance.

This includes ensuring that journalists can do their work without fear of harassment or intimidation and promoting a culture of meritocracy and fairness in governance.

We must also invest in education, healthcare, and economic opportunities that benefit the masses, rather than just the ruling elite.

Our institutions need to be independent, impartial, and accountable to the people, with checks and balances that prevent the executive from overstepping its bounds.

Ultimately, we need a new social contract, where the government is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.

We must acknowledge the struggles of the past, honour the sacrifices of those who fought for true democracy, and recommit ourselves to building a nation where no one is oppressed.

Until we address the fundamental issues that have undermined our democracy, our Democracy Day celebrations will remain a hollow exercise in self-congratulation, a farce that masks the rot at the heart of our system.

At best, what we are celebrating is LOOTOCRACY – and it is crystal clear who is reaping the benefits..

Anambra: 3 Inspectors of Police Thrown into Cell for Alleged 'Stop and Search' Extortion

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu has ordered the detention of three police inspectors following allegations of corruption.

The officers are accused of extorting money from an unsuspecting member of the public during a routine security patrol.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, by the sta Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, CP Orutugu also directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings in line with the Nigeria Police Force's established procedures.

"The CP, during interrogation of the officers, frowned at the poor character exhibition of how they accosted an unsuspecting member of the public during a security patrol, forcibly searched his phone, and extorted from the victim," the statement read.

CP Orutugu emphasized the Force's zero-tolerance stance on corruption and unprofessional conduct, reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to uphold discipline, transparency, and accountability.

"The Nigeria Police Force, as a disciplined, transparent, responsible, responsive, and accountable institution, will never condone any form of abuse of office, corruption, and sundry unprofessional conduct," the Commissioner stated.

He stressed that such misconduct not only undermines the ethical standards expected of police personnel but also erodes public trust and impedes effective policing.

"These anomalies, aside from negating the professional calling of the Police, are unacceptable as they affect the entire execution of policies and directives, thereby widening the trust gap between the citizens and the Force," he added.

The Anambra State Police Command reassured members of the public of its resolve to discipline erring officers and restore faith in law enforcement through transparent and just processes.

Anambra Pensioners Cry Out: "Anthony Ugozor Must Go"

A group of pensioners in Anambra State, under the aegis of the Association of Retired Directors, Deputy Directors and other Officers of the Anambra State Public Service (ARDOS), has vehemently opposed the re-election bid of Dr. Anthony Ugozor as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Anambra State Chapter.

The pensioners, in a statement signed by Sir Fidelis Ezeike (Chairman) and Sir Azuka Okeke (Secretary), described Ugozor's bid for a third term as unconstitutional and illegal.

According to them, Ugozor has been in office since 2016, and his prolonged stay contravenes the NUP constitution.

The group accused Ugozor of mismanaging the NUP Anambra State Chapter and failing to achieve any meaningful progress on pension harmonization and upward review.

They also alleged that Ugozor has converted the NUP into a family business, appointing his biological son as Finance Officer.

The pensioners called on delegates to the forthcoming election to vote Ugozor out if he persists in contesting, citing his failure to deliver on promises and his alleged mismanagement of the union.

"We vehemently rebut the false accusations contained in the FIDES Publication under reference," the group said.

"Our aim is to seek implementation of the provisions of section 2010(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, which states that pensions shall be reviewed every five years or together with any civil service salary reviews whichever is earlier."

The group urged the Nigeria Union of Pensioners' national leadership to take note of their grievances and ensure that the union is run in accordance with its constitution.

Pensioners Group Slams NUP Chairman Ugozor, Calls for His Exit

A group, Association of Retired Directors, Deputy Directors and other Officers of the Anambra State Public Service (ARDOS), has opposed the re-election bid of Dr. Anthony Ugozor as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Anambra State Chapter.

In a statement signed by Sir Fidelis Ezeike (Chairman) and Sir Azuka Okeke (Secretary), the group described Ugozor's bid for a third term as unconstitutional and illegal.

According to the group, Ugozor has been in office since 2016, having been co-opted into the NUP Exco and later appointed as Acting Chairman following the demise of the then Chairman, Comrade Maduka.

The group said Ugozor had been in the NUP, Anambra State Chapter for 9 years and if he goes if further he would be staying 13 years.

He was subsequently elected as substantive Chairman in 2021.

The group noted that Ugozor's prolonged stay in office contravenes the NUP constitution, which stipulates that no candidate for any elective office shall be allowed to stay in office for more than two terms consecutively.

The group also accused Ugozor of mismanaging the NUP Anambra State Chapter, citing his appointment of his biological son, Mr. Emmanuel Ugozor, as NUP Finance Officer since 2019, in contravention of the NUP law and Public Service Rules.

ARDOS expressed disappointment that Ugozor's Exco has not achieved anything positive in respect of the harmonization and upward review of pensions since 2016, despite collecting check-off dues from members.

The group noted that pension review was last carried out in 2003, and pensioners in Anambra State are still receiving peanuts as pension, despite the minimum wage being discussed and passed last year.

The group urged pensioners to note that Ugozor's re-election bid is unconstitutional and called on delegates to the election slated for July 18, 2025, to vote him out if he persists in contesting.

"We vehemently rebut the false accusations contained in the FIDES Publication under reference," the group said. APGA Slams Anambra APC Governorship Candidate, Calls Him Empty Vessel

As campaign commences today, I want to state unequivocally that saying vote for Nicholas Ukachukwu is tantamount to saying vote for an empty vessel that has nothing to offer* .

My stand ahead of the fast approaching November 8th governorship election is that nobody in his or her right senses will say vote for Nicholas Ukachukwu because he is an undisputed empty vessel that has nothing to offer Anambra people.

He knows nothing about governance.

When Nicholas Ukachukwu went to House of Reps between 1999 to 2003, he was more of a deaf and dumb legislator and that was the major reason, he has not been able to win any election in Anambra from that 2003 till date.

He is a regular customer in the business of election contest in Anambra but has never won any because Anambra electorates know about his woeful performance as a legislator in FCT.

Nicholas Ukachukwu is not a match for Governor Soludo on issues of governance and Nigerians can attest to that.

Even one APC Governor stated without fear of contradiction that they are learning about good governance from Governor Soludo.

When Prof Soludo was not yet elected Anambra Governor, APC Governors invited him to lecture them on how to govern their State.

Now that Anambra people gave him their mandate to govern them, they will not allow a nonentity and a complete empty vessel called Nicholas Ukachukwu that has nothing to offer them to cut short the good work he is doing in our State.

Our people are even praying that after Soludo God ordained 8years in office that if it will be possible for the constitution to be amended to permit him to contest for 3rd,4th and more tenures that they will support him.

This is because of the fact that Governor Soludo is delivering good governance in our State.

No Governor since the history of our State creation can boast of doing what Governor Soludo has done in our State.

Infact, he is contesting the November 8th governorship election unopposed, the so called Nicholas Ukachukwu that is moving round Anambra State in the guise of contesting the election against him is a joker.

He only wants to recoup the money he spent in hijacking APC ticket and also make some gains through the money he is expecting APC Governors to donate in support of him as their party governorship candidate and nothing more.

Anambra has passed the stage an empty vessel like Nicholas Ukachukwu can govern.

As I pen down this piece, Nigerians and the world at large are waiting to tap from Governor Soludo God given talent and wealth of experience as he delivers lecture at the platform event in Lagos on 12th June 2025 that is Democracy day celebration in Nigeria.

He is a regular guest of the Platform because the organisers know that Nigerians and the world at large has a lot to learn from him.

With the calibre of people Governor Soludo is appearing on the platform with, my readers will agree with me that the empty vessel called Nicholas Ukachukwu is not on the same class with him..

Honestly, shoe has size and Nicholas Ukachukwu must to accept this reality and stop dwelling in self deceit.

Most importantly, Governor Soludo has used his administration 1st term in office achievements to justify the confidence reposed in him by Anambra electorates and he deserves to be re elected for a 2nd term.

As long as the November 8th governorship election is concerned, it is Prof Soludo for Governor till March 17th 2030 or nothing.

Narrating what transpired on the fateful day,Mr Orji recounted how he was on duty when the suspect, Mr. Levi Obieze (alias Ezeani,E dey play E dey play) a man allegedly wanted for serial ritual killings passed by on a motorcycle.
According to the eagle eyed immigration officer,something about his face struck a chord, and without delay,he trailed him discreetly to the next checkpoint.

“I stopped him and confronted him with his photo. He denied at first, saying it was his brother. But I insisted. He then tried to bribe me - ₦3 million… then ₦7 million… ₦10 million… eventually ₦15 million, with his wife promising to send the money. I pretended to cooperate just to detain him without raising alarm. When I confirmed from my superior that he was indeed the wanted man, I handcuffed him and recovered voice notes from his phone that revealed attempts to erase his tracks.” the Immigration Officer Ugochukwu said

Moved by the integrity of the officer, Chief Dr. Onunkwo used the opportunity to call on the Nigerian government and the Immigration Service to recognize and reward Ugochukwu with a well-deserved promotion,noting that such commendable actions needs to be encouraged.

“I urge the Nigerian Immigration Service to look into this case and consider rewarding Ugochukwu officially. Let this be an example to others - that honesty is not only possible in this country but it also pays. Our system must start celebrating people who choose integrity over impunity,” he said.

Politicians exploiting Nigeria's ethnic, religious fractionalization - Bishop


The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has lamented Nigeria's increasing fractionalization along ethnic and religious lines.

The church said it was more worrisome the manner certain elites and politicians have taken advantage of such fractionalization for their selfish gains.

The lamentation was contained in the Presidential address of Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo at the Diocesan 1st session of the 33rd Synod, held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Ojoto, with the theme, “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory”.

The bishop called for a new civilian Constitution drafted by a sovereign representation of the ethnic nationalities of the country.

He noted that the constitution would address fundamental issues necessary for a growing, united and prosperous nation.

"Nigeria, unfortunately is fractionalized along ethnic and religious lines which some elites and politicians have exploited for their selfish gains.

"There's need for a totally new civilian Constitution drafted by a sovereign representation of the ethnic nationalities to address the fundamental issues necessary for a growing, united and prosperous nation," he added.

Nwokolo further disclosed the Diocese signing of partnership agreement with some Missions and overseas' institutions for actualization of its programs and projects designed to touch millions of lives in the Diocese and Anambra in general.

On the collapsed DMGS Centenary building in Onitsha, Nwokolo clarified that the Diocese on the Niger inquiry concluded that the likely cause of the collapse was foundation failure due to poor soil conditions.

He stated that technical review had concluded the internal inquiries into the collapsed building.

According to him, the foundation for the new building was laid on January 25, 2025, symbolizing a new begining with an increased focus on safety and quality.

The Bishop also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the employment of teachers in their thousands to boost the educational sector and to abate unemployment in the state.

He further praised him for the dualization of some major roads and decongesting some areas in major markets in the state.

Appreciating God for making the University on the Niger a reality, the Prelate noted that that institution has been specially packaged to become the Star of the East among Ivory Towers in Africa.

He expressed delight that his recent Trans- Atlantic mission shuttles to Europe and America was yielding good results as Niger Diocese and the UniNiger now partner with some institutions and establishments overseas for the consolidation of his programs & projects designed to better mankind in this part of the world.

A closer examination reveals that the root cause of this issue lies in the lack of effective rent regulation in Anambra State.

Landlords, driven by the desire for maximum profit, often exploit tenants through exorbitant rent increments, while some lawyers facilitate this exploitation for financial gain.

The question remains: what drives a lawyer to write multiple letters of rent increment for a client within a span of one year? Is it a genuine attempt to advise clients or merely a pursuit of pecuniary interest?

To address this issue, lawyers must prioritize advising clients on reasonable and lawful rent increments, rather than solely focusing on financial benefits.

They should ensure that clients adhere to the rules governing quit notices, which vary depending on the method of tenancy.

For instance, a weekly tenancy requires one week's notice, a monthly tenancy requires one month's notice, and a yearly tenancy requires six months' notice.

The Anambra State Government must step in to regulate rents and protect tenants from exploitative landlords.

A rent regulation policy could establish a Rent Tribunal to adjudicate disputes and determine fair rent increments, set guidelines for rent increments based on factors like inflation and economic conditions, and strengthen tenant protection laws to prevent unfair eviction.

Examples of successful rent regulation models can be seen in other jurisdictions like Lagos, where rent control boards have been established to regulate rent increments and ensure that landlords provide adequate notice to tenants.

We urge the Anambra State Government to take concrete steps to address this issue.

It is time to ignite laws that ensure fair rent practices, rather than leaving it to the whims of exploitative landlords.

Lawyers must reevaluate their priorities and uphold their professional ethics, prioritizing justice and fairness over financial gain.


Tenants should boldly assert their rights and challenge arbitrary landlord actions in court, recognizing that legal recourse is not exclusive to landlords.

The people of Anambra deserve protection from exploitation, and collective action is necessary to address this issue.

Candidates should promote peaceful coexistence among supporters and opponents, recognizing that security is a collective responsibility.

By working together towards a safe and prosperous Anambra, they can build trust, foster development, and ensure a brighter future for the state.

Deputy Governor Commends Anambra-Born Artistes for Visiting Soludo's Projects

The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, has commended Anambra-born artists for taking the time to visit some of the projects executed by the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

Ibezim made this commendation when renowned flautist Ojadiligbo (Chinemeze Chijioke) and Awkuzu-based rapper Slowdog (Nnenna Okechukwu Emmanuel) visited him at the new Anambra State Government House.

The Deputy Governor praised Prof. Soludo for breaking the nearly 34-year jinx of Anambra State not having a permanent Government House.

He noted that the new Government House, comprising 56 buildings, is a demonstration of the Governor's commitment to developing the state.

Ibezim condemned those engaging in campaigns of calumny against the Soludo-led government, urging Anambra-born artistes and entertainers to use their platforms to showcase the good work being done by the Governor.

The visiting artistes, Ojadiligbo and Slowdog, described Anambra State under Soludo's leadership as a destination hub.

They lauded the state's infrastructure and encouraged creatives, particularly those of South-Eastern origin, to leverage these facilities for content creation.

Ojadiligbo, known for blending traditional Igbo sounds with modern Afrobeat and highlife, and Slowdog, a prominent figure in Nigeria's rap scene, commended the state's efforts to provide world-class recreational( Solution Fun City) and administrative facilities.

The visit was facilitated by Hon. Chinedu Obigwe, the National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors' Forum, and Hon. Kamen Chuks Ogbonna.

Anambra Correspondents' Chapel Breaks Away from NUJ State Council Over Executive Rascality

The Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State has announced its decision to disassociate itself from the state council, citing high-handedness and threats to life by the council's chairman, Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.

According to a communique issued after their June Congress, the chapel unanimously endorsed the leadership of Chief Chuks Ilozue and his Executive Committee, while expressing their loyalty to the national body of the NUJ.

The chapel cited the need to protect members from what they described as a "draconian, inhumane and threat-infested environment" within the council as the reason for their decision.

The dispute also involves a bus donated to the chapel by the state government, which Odogwu allegedly sought to assign to his sister-in-law, Tochukwu Ifejika, Chairperson of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra state Chapter.

The chapel has declared that the bus will continue to be used for its intended purpose and will not be surrendered to Odogwu or anyone else.

The communique was signed by David Eleke (Chairman), Nwanosike Onu, Tony Okafor, Obinna Unaeze, Emma Elekwa (Secretary) and unanimously endorsed by all the members.

Ukachukwu's N1bn Church Budget Backfires, Onitsha Thanksgiving Turns Sour- APGA


The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum has spoken out on the recent incident involving Nicholas Ukachukwu, a governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, Ukachukwu's attempt to turn a thanksgiving service into a political campaign rally was thwarted by the church authorities.

Obigwe stated, "The thanksgiving service outing of Nicholas Ukachukwu... ended in shame and disgrace. He was not allowed to turn yesterday's ( Sunday) Church service to a political campaign rally."

The statement said Ukachukwu had budgeted N1 billion for thanksgiving services in churches across Anambra State, doling out millions to hoodwink them into praying for his governorship ambition.

However, Archbishop Valerian Mmaduka Okeke, the administrator of the Basilica, refused to allow Ukachukwu to speak or engage in political activities during the service.

Obigwe praised the Archbishop's stance, saying, "Archbishop Valerian Okeke is not someone he can play such dirty political games with.

The statement also claimed that Ukachukwu's team had rented a crowd, who raised APC flags during a photo opportunity with the Archbishop, but were asked to bring them down.

Obigwe commended Archbishop Okeke for upholding integrity and honour, adding, "Everything is not about money but honour and integrity matters."

Obigwe ended with a message of support for Charles Soludo's governorship bid, saying, "It's Soludo for Governor till March 17th, 2030, or nothing."
