Blogger’s Confession Vindicates Soludo, Family, Puts Opposition to Shame — Obigwe

Tony Okafor, Awka

The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has said the public confession and retraction by the publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, Mr Ejike Ofoegbu Experience, has vindicated Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and his family.

Ofoegbu had publicly admitted that several controversial reports he published about Soludo and his son, Ozonna, were “fake, false, fabricated and untrue.”

Reacting to the development, Obigwe said political opponents who allegedly exploited the reports to attack the governor, his family and the All Progressives Grand Alliance had been put to shame.

“Ever since the reports began trending, the opposition went to town celebrating and leveraging them to make uncomplimentary comments against the party and the first family,” Obigwe said.

He added that despite the party’s challenge to the authenticity of the reports, its opponents continued to circulate them.

“Today, they have all been put to shame, while our party and the Anambra first family have been vindicated,” he said.

The reports had attributed several controversial statements to Soludo and his son, including claims that the governor had disowned his son and that Ozonna had made disparaging allegations against his father.

In his retraction, Ofoegbu admitted that the reports had no factual basis or credible source.

“I publicly admit that the stories I published concerning Governor Soludo and his son were completely fake, false, fabricated and untrue.

“They did not come from Governor Soludo, his son, his family or any official representative. They were not based on any verified facts or credible source, and they should never have been presented as news.”

Ofoegbu also retracted several purported quotations attributed to the governor and his son, taking responsibility for publishing them.

“I state clearly and without reservation that every one of the statements above was fake. They should not be regarded as factual reports or genuine quotations. I take full responsibility for publishing them,” he said.

He further admitted publishing other false and misleading reports involving Soludo and former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi.

Expressing regret over the publications, Ofoegbu said: “I deeply regret the embarrassment, reputational harm and misunderstanding these fabricated stories may have caused to Governor Soludo, his family, his associates and members of the public.”

He apologised to Soludo, his family, the people of Anambra State and readers of his publications, pledging that such an incident would not happen again.

“This statement serves as my full and unconditional retraction of those publications. They were false, fabricated and should be disregarded in their entirety,” he stated.

Obigwe, meanwhile, warned against further publication of false allegations against the governor, his family and APGA, saying such attacks would no longer be taken lightly.

World Bank Confirms Anambra Did Not Apply for HOPE-Governance Programme

Tony Okafor, Awka

The World Bank has confirmed that Anambra State did not indicate interest in participating in its 2024 HOPE-Governance Programme, dismissing media reports that the state was denied access to the facility over alleged failure to meet required performance benchmarks.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Friday evening by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime.

According to the statement, the World Bank's Implementation Status & Results Report on Nigeria HOPE-Governance (P181476), dated July 7, 2025, stated that "35 states and the Federal Capital Territory have expressed interest in participating in the Programme. Anambra State did not express interest to participate in the Programme."

The report, the government noted, made no reference to the state being disqualified or failing to meet any eligibility benchmarks. Rather, it indicated that only states that expressed interest engaged the World Bank for guidance under the programme.

The Soludo administration described Anambra's non-participation as a deliberate administrative decision rather than a sanction, explaining that the state evaluates development programmes based on its priorities and fiscal timelines before making commitments.

The government further disclosed that it is currently concluding due diligence and holding discussions with the World Bank, assuring that Anambra would participate in any programme that aligns with its development priorities.

It reiterated that the state remains committed to progressive policies and partnerships capable of advancing its development agenda.

The government, however, urged media organisations and members of the public to verify information before publication and avoid spreading claims capable of misleading the public.

Primus Odili hailed as symbol of strength, impactful leadership in Anambra

Tony Okafor, Awka

Chief Primus Odili, the Mgbologu and Okosisi Aguleri, has been described as one of the most influential figures in the political and cultural landscape of Anambra State, with admirers praising his leadership, integrity and commitment to the development of the state.

In a statement made available to journalists, supporters said Chief Odili's name "carries the weight of impact, integrity, and raw strength," adding that he is "undeniably one of those rare figures" whose contributions have left a lasting mark on Anambra North.

The statement noted that the renowned community leader has distinguished himself through service rather than status.

"As a titan of Anambra North, his leadership is not just about titles; it is about the lives touched, the structures built, and the unwavering dedication to the progress of Ndi Anambra," the statement read.

It further likened Chief Odili to the Okosisi tree, describing him as a resilient and dependable leader whose influence continues to resonate across the state.

"Like the great Okosisi, he stands tall—unshakable, deeply rooted, and ever protective of his people," it stated.

Describing him as "a true strongman of our time," the statement added that Chief Odili's enduring legacy continues to inspire many and "pave the way for a greater tomorrow" for Anambra State.

The commendation comes amid growing recognition of the role of traditional and political leaders in fostering unity, development and sustainable progress across communities in the state.
CrimeOjukwu University Under Siege As ICPC, EFCC, Police Probe VC Omenugha by TonyRazor(op):
Ojukwu University Under Siege as ICPC, EFCC, Police Probe VC Omenugha

By Tony Okafor, Awka

Official documents obtained by our correspondent have revealed that Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Anambra State, is facing scrutiny from three major law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies—the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigeria Police Force—over separate allegations linked to the institution's administration under Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha.

The documents, comprising official correspondences and petitions, show that the agencies are either conducting investigations or have been urged to probe allegations ranging from procurement breaches and financial impropriety to abuse of office and forgery.

The latest development is the issuance of what the ICPC described as a "third and final notice" to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, demanding the submission of key institutional and staff records in connection with an ongoing investigation.

In a letter dated June 4, 2026, with reference number ICPC/ANS/TAVAFF/IA-003/2026, the anti-corruption agency expressed concern that its earlier letters dated April 22 and May 6, 2026, had not received formal responses from the university despite acknowledged receipt.

Acting under Section 28(1) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, the commission requested certified true copies of several documents, including personal files of specified academic staff, departmental handbooks, approved final-year results for the 2024/2025 academic session, postgraduate teaching eligibility guidelines, and records relating to students' fees.

The ICPC also requested academic materials from the Department of History and International Studies, particularly documents relating to the course, Foreign Policy of Major World Powers, as well as the Faculty of Arts Information Handbook.

The commission directed that the documents be forwarded to its Anambra State Office in Awka within the stipulated period and warned that failure to comply could amount to obstruction of investigation, an offence punishable under Sections 15, 28(10) and 40 of the Act.

The agency reiterated its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and due process in public institutions.

Again, documents obtained by our correspondent also show that the Nigeria Police Force has commenced action on a petition alleging forgery, abuse of office and the award of public contracts to family members and associates in violation of procurement regulations.

A letter from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police dated June 4, 2025, indicated that the petition had been referred to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) for investigation and necessary action.

The correspondence, referenced CB:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.840/186 and signed by DCP Lateef Adio Ahmed on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, stated that the petition was submitted by Inoloji Chambers on May 29, 2025.

According to the document, the petition alleged forgery, abuse of office, and the award of contracts to family members and cronies in breach of public procurement laws and due process requirements.

Although the police did not disclose the identities of those implicated or details of the contracts involved, the referral suggests that the allegations have attracted the attention of the police hierarchy and are now the subject of official scrutiny by the Force Intelligence Department.

In a related development, the EFCC has also been petitioned to investigate Prof. Omenugha over allegations of contract racketeering, procurement violations, financial impropriety and abuse of office.

They further claimed that several projects, including a staff biometric capturing exercise, solar street-light installations at the College of Medicine, Amaku, Awka, and renovation works at the university's gatehouse in Igbariam, were awarded to or executed by persons allegedly connected to the Acting Vice-Chancellor's family.

Other allegations contained in the petition include claims that some contractors engaged by the university were inactive on the records of the Corporate Affairs Commission, questions over the management of university-related commercial ventures, and the alleged diversion of funds earmarked for the production of student identity cards.

The petition also raised concerns over the handling of a TETFund-funded Department of Architecture building project and alleged irregular deductions from research grants awarded to academic staff under the 2024 TETFund Institutional-Based Research intervention.

According to the petitioners, beneficiaries of the programme were allegedly directed to remit N600,000 each from their N2 million research grants to a private business account under the guise of logistics payments.

They urged the EFCC to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the university's procurement processes, financial transactions, admissions procedures and other administrative activities.

Neither the EFCC nor the police has publicly announced the outcome of any investigation arising from the petitions.

As of the time of filing this report, Prof. Omenugha and the management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University had not publicly responded to the allegations despite being contacted.

Listen to Your Fathers and you won't go wrong - Dozie Nwankwo

Our Correspondent

In his message to fathers to mark this year's Fathers' Day, the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra Central Zone, Hon Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has urged the present generation to respect and listen to their fathers if they want to progress in life.

Nwankwo, fondly known as "Onye Ndozi" as a result of his contributions to society, remarked that there was a reason God made fathers the heads of families and noted that it also came with blessings.

"God has placed fathers as heads of families and, having empowered them to play that role, blesses those who respect their authority. A child who respects and listens to his father can hardly go wrong. You look around and you find out that in homes where children grew up without fathers, they behave differently from those who did. There are certain things fathers do which no other person can. This is why respecting and listening to Fathers' counsels pay dividends," Nwankwo, a well known philanthropist, asserted.

He however regretted that some fathers were failing in their God-given duty as the heads of their homes and allowing their families to disintegrate.

He urged such fathers to redirect their steps before it became too late.

He wished fathers in his constituency and beyond a happy Fathers' Day, pointing out that he recognized and appreciated the critical role they played.

Nwankwo prayed God to imbue fathers with the wisdom, strength and understanding to pilot affairs in the home, describing them as the pillars that carried the weight of every home.

Our Elders Deserve More - Dozie Nwankwo

Our Correspondent

Foremost philanthropist and the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra Central, Hon Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has described elders as invaluable assets in any society who deserve more than they are getting.

Nwankwo, who made this known while commemorating the World Elders Day celebrated recently, said the need to care for the elderly in society informed why he targeted the elderly under his Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo Foundation years ago.

"I have since recognized the important role of elders in our society. In fact, any society without elders will lose not only a vital part of its history, but will lose the benefit of good counsel," Nwankwo observed, adding that through his Foundation, many elders in his constituency and beyond enjoyed free medical services.

He said that caring for the elderly remained one of his priorities which he would take up to another notch as a Senator.

"These are people who gave us life, nurtured us and made us who we are today. It is our collective responsibility to show them love and sense of belonging at this stage of their lives," Nwankwo stated.

He commended the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, for hosting some of the state's elders to mark their day, noting that it was in line with APGA's mantra of being their brother's keeper.

The Senatorial hopeful called for policies that would adequately cater for the elderly, as well as setting up homes for them, especially those without people to care for them. This, he said, was the practice in developed countries.

Nwankwo wished the state's elders good health and longevity.

2027 General Elections: Ndigbo Should Reflect on Soludo's Message- Obigwe

By Our Correspondent

The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Mr. Chinedu Obigwe, has called on the Igbo people to reflect deeply on the remarks made by Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, during a recent gathering of political stakeholders in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Obigwe described Governor Soludo as a visionary leader committed to the development of Anambra State and the advancement of the South-East within the Nigerian federation.

According to him, the governor's remarks at the Abakaliki meeting contained important political lessons that should guide the region's approach to the 2027 general elections.

Obigwe said Soludo's position at the gathering demonstrated his belief in constructive engagement and strategic political alignment aimed at securing greater benefits for the South-East.

He urged Igbo leaders and citizens to carefully consider the governor's counsel and avoid actions that could undermine the region's political interests ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The APGA chieftain maintained that Soludo's intervention was intended to encourage pragmatic politics and foster stronger participation of the South-East in national affairs.

He further expressed confidence in APGA's prospects in future elections, particularly in Anambra State, noting that the party remained focused on consolidating its achievements and expanding its electoral support base.

Obigwe reiterated his support for the governor's leadership and called on the people of the South-East to engage in thoughtful reflection on the issues raised at the Abakaliki gathering as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum.

APGA Chieftain Dismisses Political Witch-Hunt Claims Over Nwankpa's Arrest

Tony Okafor, Awka

The National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has dismissed claims that the arrest and arraignment of Bishop Emeka Nwankpa alongside other suspected fake pastors was politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Obigwe described allegations of political persecution against Nwankpa as unfounded, insisting that the cleric's legal troubles were unrelated to politics.

According to him, attempts by some individuals to portray the prosecution as a political witch-hunt were aimed at pressuring the Anambra State Government into dropping the charges against Nwankpa.

"The claim that the arrest and arraignment of Bishop Emeka Nwankpa alongside other fake pastors is a political witch-hunt is unfounded. Nobody is politically witch-hunting him; rather, he is facing the consequences of his actions," Obigwe stated.

He further said that those advancing the political persecution narrative were engaging in what he described as an unsuccessful effort to blackmail the government into abandoning the case.

Obigwe also downplayed Nwankpa's political relevance, arguing that despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) operating within Onitsha North II Constituency, he had not demonstrated significant electoral influence.

"As an APC member operating in Onitsha North II Constituency, Emeka Nwankpa does not possess any notable political value. He cannot boast of winning elections in his polling unit, let alone his ward," he said.

The APGA stalwart maintained that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo could not be associated with politically motivated persecution of any individual in the state.

He said the Soludo administration remained focused on delivering good governance and implementing reforms across various sectors of the state's economy and public service.

"Governor Soludo's efforts to reform Anambra State in all ramifications deserve commendation rather than vilification and blackmail," Obigwe stated.

He further argued that residents of the state were benefiting from the policies and programmes of the current administration, describing the governor's performance as unprecedented in the state's recent history.

The statement comes amid ongoing public debate surrounding the arrest and prosecution of Nwankpa and other individuals accused of engaging in activities allegedly linked to fake religious practices. The matter is currently before the court.

June 12: John Nwosu Calls for Inclusive Democracy, Stronger Security Architecture

Tony Okafor, Awka

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, John Chuma Nwosu, has called for a more inclusive democracy, improved security architecture, and greater deployment of technology in governance as Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day.

Nwosu, an advocate of good governance, inclusive development, security, and innovation, made the call in a Democracy Day message issued on Friday.

In the statement, he joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the ideals of freedom, justice, popular participation, and good governance associated with June 12, while paying tribute to those who fought to defend the country's democratic rights.

According to him, the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists serve as a reminder that democracy is not a gift but a responsibility that must be continuously protected and strengthened.

Nwosu, however, noted that despite Nigeria's democratic progress, several challenges continue to threaten the nation's stability and development, particularly insecurity.

He expressed concern over the growing wave of insecurity across different parts of the country, warning that no democracy can thrive where citizens live in fear.

Nwosu advocated strengthening the nation's security architecture through improved intelligence gathering, greater community participation in security matters, and deliberate efforts to address the social and economic conditions that fuel crime and violence.

The governorship hopeful also emphasized the need for a democracy that accommodates all segments of society, stressing that every Nigerian, irrespective of age, gender, religion, ethnicity, social status, or physical ability, should enjoy equal opportunities and meaningful participation in governance.

He argued that Nigeria's democratic system would become stronger when women, youths, persons living with disabilities, and other marginalized groups are adequately represented in leadership positions and decision-making processes.

On the role of technology in governance, Nwosu said digital innovation remains critical to the future of democratic development. He noted that technology could significantly improve transparency, public service delivery, citizen engagement, education, healthcare, economic growth, and electoral integrity.

He therefore urged governments at all levels to expand internet access, invest in digital skills acquisition, and leverage technology to make governance more accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.

He further stated that democracy should not be viewed merely as the conduct of periodic elections but as a system that guarantees justice, strengthens institutions, expands opportunities, and enables citizens to pursue better lives with dignity and confidence.

As Nigerians mark Democracy Day, Nwosu called on citizens to renew their commitment to unity, peace, responsible citizenship, and the values that sustain democratic governance.

He expressed optimism that through collective effort, Nigeria could become safer, more inclusive, technologically advanced, and prosperous for present and future generations.

Nwosu also urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, actively engaged in the democratic process, and committed to the task of nation-building.

He prayed for God's blessings upon Anambra State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Dozie Nwankwo Warns against Politicizing Insecurity, Reaffirms Confidence in Soludo's Security Efforts

The Senatorial Candidate for Ànambra Central Zone, on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Hon Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has warned against making political capital out of the fatal attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Anambra State Government, Hon Ben Nwankwo, which cost the lives of two police escorts and two aides, describing it as an unfortunate incident that could happen to anyone anywhere in the world.

It will be recalled that the convoy of the Chief of Staff of the Anambra State Government, Hon Sir Ben Nwankwo, was attacked by hoodlums dressed in police uniform last Sunday along Awa-Ufuma Road on their way from an official function. It claimed the lives of four people.

But in a press statement he signed, Nwankwo, a well known philanthropist and former House of Representatives member that represented Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency, said any loss of human life was always a minus to humanity and not what anyone would use to score what he described as cheap political points, even as he expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

"Humanity has been depreciated by the killing of those people. They came from families and were their bread winners. They however sadly died in active service and I convey my deepest condolences to their grieving families," Nwankwo stated.

He however warned against making political capital out of what he described as the sad event, noting that even in America, perceived as the world's most powerful country, violent crimes were still committed.

He reaffirmed his confidence in the security architecture of Anambra State as put down by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, expressing satisfaction that before the latest incident Anambra had recorded zero crime of such magnitude.

He enjoined Anambrarians to join hands with the governor and security agencies in fighting crime, which, he said, was everybody's job.

"As our governor would say, if you see something, say something. The government and security agencies are neither spirits nor magicians who can know everything. The task of securing our state from hoodlums is everyone's job and once we see it this way, the job of the government and security agencies becomes easier," Nwankwo stated.

BIAFRA: Soludo Recalls War Trauma, Hails Zik's Negotiation Philosophy

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has urged Ndi Igbo to abandon agitational politics and embrace structured intellectual engagement to address the "Igbo question" within Nigeria.

The governor made the call on Wednesday at the Light House, Awka, after watching The Tale of Two Nnamdis, a stage play written by Tobe Osigwe, directed by Prof. Uche Nwaozuzu and performed by Theatre Arts students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Drawing from his personal experience of the Nigerian Civil War, Soludo said the conflict left deep scars on his family.

"I saw the war very clearly. My mother died during the war, and my father carried a bullet in his body for 11 years after the war," he told the audience.

He recalled visiting UNN last month, noting that the Biafran War was "literally declared there," and expressed satisfaction that students were now "leading the way" in reopening the conversation.

Soludo criticised the prolonged sit-at-home orders in the South-East, saying such strategies had caused more hardship for the people they were intended to protect.

"There has been insufficient structured intellectual engagement on the challenges confronting the Igbo people and their place in the Nigerian state," he said. "That conversation must begin in a very structured manner."

The governor, who described himself as both a Pan-Africanist and a committed Nigerian, argued that Igbo prosperity would be accelerated through wider engagement with Nigeria and the world.

"Ndi Igbo need Nigerians, Nigerians need Ndi Igbo, just as the world needs us. Our prosperity will accelerate if we take advantage of a wider space," he stated.

Soludo invoked the legacy of Nigeria's first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, as a model for advancing Igbo interests through negotiation rather than confrontation.

"Zik helped us. He bargained in the First and Second Republics. He taught us the politics of bargaining," he said.

He also highlighted what he described as a contradiction in current Igbo political aspirations: seeking the Nigerian presidency while maintaining deep scepticism about the Nigerian project.

"It is true that Ndi Igbo want the presidency, but the paradox has to be addressed. As a people, where do we stand? How can you govern a people who do not know your stand?" he asked.

The governor reiterated his readiness to participate in a civil conversation on the future of the Igbo nation and pledged support for any group advancing the discourse

"Any group that advances the conversation of the Igbo question in Nigeria will have our support. The beauty of our republican nature is that you cannot muscle your way through it—you must engage," Soludo said.

The event attracted academics, cultural leaders and political observers, who described the play as a thought-provoking contribution to debates on identity, nationhood and the future of the South-East within Nigeria.

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, John Chuma Nwosu, has called on governments at all levels to prioritise the welfare, education and protection of Nigerian children through increased investment in critical sectors.

Nwosu made the call in a Children’s Day message issued on Wednesday to mark the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

In the statement, the ADC candidate described children as “the pride of today and the leaders of tomorrow,” stressing that any nation that genuinely invests in its young population is laying the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous future.

He said Children’s Day should not only be a moment of celebration but also an opportunity for reflection on society’s collective responsibility to nurture and protect children.

According to him, every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, moral guidance and equal opportunities irrespective of social background, religion or location.

Nwosu urged children across the country to remain focused on their education and personal development, advising them not to allow present circumstances to define their future.

“To every child listening to me today, always remember that you are unique, gifted and full of limitless possibilities,” he stated.

The politician encouraged young people to embrace discipline, honesty, hard work and creativity, while also acquiring digital and technological skills needed to compete in a modern global economy.

He noted that the world is increasingly driven by science, technology and innovation, adding that Nigerian children must be adequately prepared to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Nwosu also appealed to governments to improve investment in modern learning facilities, qualified teachers, healthcare services, libraries and child protection programmes.

He said Nigerian children deserved safe schools and opportunities that would prepare them for future challenges.

The Ex-ADC governorship candidate further warned children against involvement in violence, crime, drug abuse and cultism, urging them instead to uphold values of integrity, compassion and love for humanity.

He commended parents, teachers, caregivers and faith-based organisations for their sacrifices towards the upbringing and development of children, describing their efforts as critical to building a responsible and progressive society.

Nwosu prayed for God’s protection and blessings upon children in Nigeria and across the world as they marked the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Anambra Central Senatorial District, Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has called on his supporters to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election after emerging victorious in the party’s primary election.

Nwankwo, who secured a landslide victory in the primary held on Saturday, polled 41,586 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Jerry Ugokwe, who garnered 1,310 votes.

Addressing jubilant supporters shortly after the exercise, the APGA standard-bearer described the victory as the beginning of a bigger political journey and urged party faithful not to relent in mobilising support for the main election.

“Today, we have taken the first step in our journey to Abuja. You have demonstrated your love for me and your confidence in my capability. I do not take this for granted,” Nwankwo said.

“But I want to tell you that a far bigger battle lies ahead. Let us go out once more and conquer so that we can secure a better future for ourselves and our children," he added

The former lawmaker also stressed the need for political harmony between elected representatives and the Anambra State Government, insisting that the state required leaders who would work in synergy with the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to deepen development.

According to him, “Anambra does not need distractions. We need to elect people who understand the vision of our governor and will work with him, not fight him. Our state does not need that.”

Nwankwo further pledged to offer quality representation if elected into the Senate.
“I am presenting myself for service. I will not disappoint. Let’s go and finish the job,” he told supporters.

CBN Security Officer, Civil Defence Operatives Clash Over Missing Child in Anambra

By Tony Okafor, Awka
Tension and outrage have erupted in Awka, Anambra State, following a dramatic confrontation between operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and an armed security team allegedly linked to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the recovery of a reportedly missing four-year-old girl.

The incident, which occurred inside a high-profile residential estate in the state capital, has triggered calls for a full-scale investigation into allegations of abuse of office, obstruction of lawful duty and intimidation involving armed personnel.

Documents and eyewitness accounts obtained by The Razor indicate that the controversy began after the child was allegedly removed from her school premises by unidentified persons without following official school sign-out procedures.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the child’s father had raised alarm after discovering she had been taken away from the school environment under suspicious circumstances.

Acting on a formal complaint and intelligence reports, NSCDC operatives reportedly launched a search operation that eventually traced the child to a residential apartment within an estate in Agu-Awka.

According to accounts from witnesses present during the operation, the situation spiraled into chaos just as the operatives were attempting to leave the estate with the child.

Residents alleged that a senior security official attached to the CBN Awka Branch stormed the scene in a sky-blue Lexus SUV accompanied by armed officers.

Eyewitnesses claimed the official confronted the Civil Defence operatives and allegedly ordered the armed escorts to cock their rifles during the heated standoff.

“It was like a movie scene,” one resident said under anonymity for fear of reprisals.

“The officers who came for the rescue appeared calm and professional. Suddenly, another armed team arrived, shouting orders. Weapons were raised openly in a residential neighborhood and people started running indoors.”

Another source alleged that the child was forcefully taken away from the NSCDC officers by the CBN crew during the confrontation.

Documents sighted by this newspaper reveal that the NSCDC has formally petitioned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, accusing the senior security officer of obstructing lawful operations and meddling in what it described as a sensitive child protection matter.

In the petition, the agency reportedly argued that the officer’s conduct amounted to gross misconduct and abuse of office, insisting that the intervention endangered both operatives and civilians within the estate.

The Civil Defence further maintained that its officers acted based on a distress petition concerning the safety and whereabouts of the child.

Investigations also revealed that school authorities allegedly confirmed that the child had been picked up without proper documentation or authorization, further deepening concerns surrounding the circumstances of her removal.

The incident has since generated intense debate among residents and legal observers, many of whom questioned why armed personnel attached to a federal financial institution became involved in what appeared to be a domestic custody-related dispute.

Security analysts who spoke to The Razor warned that the open display of firearms during a disagreement involving uniformed federal operatives could have resulted in tragedy.

“This raises serious institutional questions,” a legal practitioner in Awka said.If armed agencies begin confronting one another in civilian neighborhoods over personal matters, it creates a dangerous precedent capable of undermining public confidence in security institutions.”

As of press time, neither the CBN Awka Branch nor the Anambra State Command of the NSCDC had issued an official public statement on the matter.

However, sources within security circles confirmed that demands for an internal investigation are mounting amid growing public concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident and the whereabout of the child at the centre of the controversy.

Anambra State government has revealed that its target is to industrialize agriculture in the state and make farmers earn foreign exchange for their farm produce.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Ben Odoemena stated this on Wednesday during the inauguration of Ideal Agro Allied Produce Limited, a tuber crop processing company sited in Akwaeze, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State and founded by famous industrialist and businessman, Chief Ikenna Okafor.

Odoemena said the administration of Prof Chukwuma Soludo will support farmers to engage in industrial scale farming as against subsistence farming which only produces for consumption.

He said: "We'll encourage farmers to farm in commercial scale, and this would not only guarantee food sufficiency, but also earn farmers foreign exchange. With the establishment of tuber crop processing plant, there would be no fear of unsold farm produce rotting away, but would rather be processed and exported.

"I'm happy that my first assignment after swearing is the inauguration of an agro processing plant that will ensure zero wastages in tuber crop. What we have here is the secret of agriculture in civilized climes.

"In Anambra, we want to support industries like this because the Soludo administration has plans to support industrialized farming. We have passed the period of planting harvesting and eating. We want to start cultivating, eating and exporting to enrich ourselves.

"We want industries like this to drive agriculture and support what we intend to do in agriculture because if you harvest and no one buys them, it will waste. But this company has made the job easy for us to talk about the industrialization of agriculture. This is part of the things Anambra will invest in and we will support businessmen like this.

"The technology this company has will help to ensure that your products are processed and exported for you, so that you can earn foreign exchange for your product."

Earlier, the Chairman of Ideal Agro Allied Produce Limited, Chief Ikenna Okafor in his address stressed that food security is very paramount for any society to succeed, adding that his company recently ventured into yam cultivation in large scale on a 200 plot farm in Ufuma, and has been earning foreign exchange from his produce.

He said the motivation to establish the tuber crop processing plant company was to ensure that there is zero-wastage of unsold farm produce. He stated that the company will process unsold tuber crop for farmers to avoid getting spoilt, packages them for export and remit proceeds to to farmers, after deducting their processing and handling charges.

"We have gotten the approval of food processing agencies in America, Europe, United Kingdom and also NAFDAC in Nigeria. We will process your yams, potato, casava and other tuber crops and will ensure that no part of your crop is wasted. We want to use this to create employment, and also help our farmers export their produce to earn."

The inauguration was attended by different farmers group across Anambra State, including government officials who inspected the various processing machines parade by the company. The Director of the company, Dr Esther Okafor described the initiative as novel, while praising the chairman for his knack for new discoveries.

Dozie Nwankwo Scales APGA Screening, Says Journey Just Begun

Our Correspondent

The senatorial hopeful of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, Hon Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has rallied his supporters to brace up for an epic battle ahead of the party's primary election and main election coming up next year. Nwankwo who stated this soon after scaling the hurdle of APGA Screening, said the journey to fruitful representation in Abuja had just begun.

Nwankwo, a well known philanthropist, thanked the APGA Screening Committee for a thorough job, noting that APGA had been known for such impeccable quality.

Nwankwo, a one-time member of the Federal House, expressed confidence in winning the primary and main elections, given his pedigree and grassroots touch.

He said his stint as Federal House member had equipped him to do an even better job in the Senate.

"I'm not new to my people and my people are not new to me. I have lived most of my life among them and appreciate their problems. That was one of the chief reasons I set up the Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo Foundation years ago, through which I touched many lives. I'm ready to do more if given the mandate," Nwankwo, popularly called "Onye Ndozi", stated.

Political analysts see Nwankwo as a clear favorite to emerge as the APGA Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central.

Dunukofia Group Seeks Zoning of 2027 House of Reps Seat to Area

Tony Okafor, Awka

The Dunukofia National Congress has called on stakeholders in Anaocha and Njikoka Local Government Areas to support the zoning of the 2027 House of Representatives seat for the Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha (DNA) federal constituency to Dunukofia LGA.

In an open appeal addressed to traditional rulers, town union leaders and political stakeholders across the three council areas, the group hinged its request on what it described as “equity, brotherhood, unity and fairness” among the communities that make up the constituency.

The DNA federal constituency—comprising Dunukofia Local Government Area, Njikoka Local Government Area and Anaocha Local Government Area—has historically operated as a single political bloc since its creation, with stakeholders noting that the area was once part of a unified administrative and cultural entity before successive boundary adjustments.

According to the appeal, the constituency has maintained a long-standing pattern of rotational representation at the National Assembly, with previous terms alternating between Anaocha and Njikoka.

The Dunukofia National Congress, however, argued that despite the rotation, Dunukofia has yet to produce a representative in the Green Chamber since the constituency structure was established.

Describing the arrangement as a “shared political microphone,” the group stressed that the seat represents not only political power but also the collective voice of the DNA people at the national level.

It maintained that fairness requires a conscious effort to allow all three local government areas to participate meaningfully in the representation cycle.

While acknowledging the contributions and representation previously enjoyed by Anaocha and Njikoka, the group said its appeal was not driven by rivalry but by a desire to strengthen unity and address what it called a lingering sense of exclusion.

“We come before you not with entitlement but with a humble plea for justice and equity,” the statement read in part, urging stakeholders to “allow Dunukofia to produce the next representative through a zoning arrangement that guarantees internal contest among its aspirants.”

The group further argued that zoning the seat to Dunukofia in 2027 would deepen trust among the constituent communities and reinforce the spirit of brotherhood that has historically defined relations within the area.

It called on traditional rulers, town union presidents-general and political leaders across the three LGAs to consider the request as a moral obligation aimed at sustaining unity and fairness within the constituency.

The appeal was copied to key stakeholders across Anaocha and Njikoka communities, as well as leadership structures within the wider DNA political bloc.

One Policeman Killed, Two Injured as Police Rescue Kidnap Victims in Anambra

Tony Okafor, Awka

A police officer was killed while two others sustained injuries during a gun battle between operatives of the Anambra State Police Command and suspected kidnappers in Obosi, Anambra State.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Awka.
He said the operatives successfully rescued four kidnapped victims, including the Chief Medical Director of Crown Hospital, Nkpor, after an intense tactical operation carried out on May 10, 2026.
According to the police commissioner, the victims had spent three days in captivity before security operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout in Obosi, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Orutugu said two suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the operation, while several arms, ammunition and vehicles were recovered from the gang.
Items recovered, according to him, included one locally made pistol, 100 rounds of live General Purpose Machine Gun ammunition, 23 expended ammunition and three vehicles, among them a silver Lexus RX 350 belonging to one of the rescued victims.
The commissioner, however, said the operation came at a heavy cost, as one police operative lost his life in the line of duty while two others suffered gunshot injuries and are currently responding to treatment.
“The officer paid the supreme sacrifice in active service to the nation. The command honours his courage, gallantry and dedication to duty,” he said.
He added that the Anambra State Government had promised to support the family of the deceased officer and offset the medical bills of the injured personnel.
Orutugu disclosed that the police later cordoned off the building where the victims were rescued following attempts by angry residents to set the property ablaze.
The commissioner also highlighted other operational breakthroughs recorded by the command in recent days.
He said operatives on May 7 carried out strategic clearance operations in Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area, following intelligence reports that suspected members of a proscribed secessionist group were attempting to regroup.
According to him, one Nnamdi Nkemdilim Ogbonna, aged 37, identified as a suspected top commander of the outlawed group, had earlier been arrested.
He said security operatives recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun with about 2,000 rounds of live chain ammunition, two fabricated rocket launchers with 25 propellers, 10 improvised explosive devices, one locally made Beretta pistol, two pump-action guns and three hand grenades during the raid.
Other items recovered included 10 rounds of K2 live ammunition, a gas cylinder and a black Ecolac box.
“The operatives also dislodged the armed criminals and sustained operational dominance in the area to prevent any regrouping,” he added.
The police command also announced the arrest of a suspected cultist, Favour Izunna, alias Njoku, aged 22, alleged to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
Orutugu alleged that the suspect confessed to participating in several killings in Obosi and neighbouring communities, including the deaths of Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka.
The suspect’s arrest, according to the police, led to the recovery of one pump-action gun, seven live cartridges, one locally made Beretta pistol and five rounds of 7.5mm live ammunition.
The command further disclosed that five suspects had been remanded over alleged sexual offences and child abuse cases in Awka and surrounding communities.
Among them, the police said, is a father accused of having unlawful sexual relations with his biological daughter in Oko.
In another development, the command said operatives arrested a female suspect, Chinazo Winners Anyasirikwu, over alleged child trafficking activities in Aguata Local Government Area.
The police said the operation led to the rescue of 12 children — seven girls and five boys aged between one and 20 years — believed to be victims of child trafficking and stealing.
Orutugu reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining operations against kidnapping, cultism, child trafficking and other violent crimes in the state.

Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki’s Wife: Emeakayi’s Hands Are Clean, Says Anambra Govt

*Committee’s report is an amateur cover-up — Prof. Odinkalu

Tony Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Government has cleared the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, of allegations linking him romantically with Mrs. Mmasi Nwangwu, wife of convicted native doctor, Mr. Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Chukwudozie Nwangwu.

The government said a fact-finding committee set up to investigate the allegation found the claims to be false, misleading and unsupported by evidence.

The allegation was reportedly made by human rights lawyer and public affairs commentator, Chidi Anselm Odinkalu.
In a statement released on Monday, the state government said the committee, chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), thoroughly examined the matter and took evidence from all relevant parties.

According to the statement, those who appeared before the panel included Mr. Ken Emeakayi, Mrs. Mmasi Nwangwu, and counsel to Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, who testified on behalf of his client.
The report, dated May 11, 2026, stated that the committee also issued several invitations to Prof. Odinkalu through text messages and other channels, requesting him to either appear physically or virtually to provide evidence or disclose the source of his allegation.

However, the government said Prof. Odinkalu failed to honour the invitations.
“The testimonies received by the committee were consistent in establishing that Mr. Ken Emeakayi and Mrs. Mmasi Nwangwu did not have any personal or improper relationship,” the report stated.

The committee subsequently concluded that the allegation against Emeakayi was unfounded.

The Anambra State Government reiterated its commitment to due process, fairness and the protection of public officials against what it described as malicious and unsubstantiated allegations.

The controversy followed public discussions surrounding the prosecution and conviction of Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, a controversial Anambra-based native doctor.

Reacting to the government’s position, Prof. Odinkalu dismissed the committee’s report as “an amateur cover-up” and insisted that his allegations remained valid.

In a statement posted on social media, Odinkalu said: “My allegations about a cabinet adviser of the Governor of Anambra State stand unimpeached and this amateur cover-up will fail.”

He disclosed that he received WhatsApp messages on April 29 and May 1, purportedly from the Anambra State Attorney General, requesting that he disclose the identities of his sources and the name of the security adviser allegedly involved.

Odinkalu questioned the credibility and procedure of the inquiry, arguing that the messages failed to disclose the composition, legal authority or terms of reference of the investigative panel.

“It also seemed to me incongruous that an investigation should be run by WhatsApp. Surely, an Attorney-General claiming to be a SAN ought to know how to write a letter,” he stated.

The professor further said he declined to respond because he was skeptical about the authenticity of the messages and the credentials of the sender.

Odinkalu also criticised the government for eventually naming Emeakayi publicly, claiming the exercise amounted to a “whitewash.”

He maintained that he stood by his allegations despite the committee’s findings. He

Nwa Miss Accuses APC of Spreading Fake News Over NDC Ticket

Our Correspondent

The leader of the South East Patriots and a House of Representatives hopeful on the platform of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Obunike Ohaegbu,a.k.a Nwa Miss, has urged his supporters to disregard the rumours that the NDC has zoned both the Senatorial and House of Reps tickets to Ekwusigo Local Government.

Ohaegbu says the rumours were the handiwork of what he describes as the failed All Progressives Congress, APC, Government officials.

Ohaegbu, a frontline political activist, in a press release he signed, Monday, said that the NDC, as a party that believed in justice, equity and fairness, could not make the mistake of zoning both tickets to one local government out of the three that make up the constituency.

‘I’m a member of the NDC and the party has not started selling forms and that mistake cannot be made because NDC is built on equity and justice.

‘I call on my supporters to remain calm as no such decision has been taken. They should ignore such rumours. If the party had decided to run with a senatorial candidate from Ekwusigo, of course, it can’t make the mistake of also conceding the House of Reps ticket to same Ekwusigo.
' What happens to Nnewi North and Nnewi South? I’m from Nnewi South and we have 20 wards. How do you convince the two other local governments that the decision was just and equitable in the circumstance?’ Ohaegbu queried.

Noting that the rumours were aimed at destabilizing the NDC because it was built on equity, justice and fairness, he fingered a candidate of the APC in the zone as being behind the rumours, describing him as having performed poorly after riding on the back of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah to go to the House of Reps last time.

‘He cannot be said to have actually performed and I don’t blame him. He was a beneficiary of the perceived injustice done to Ifeanyi Ubah. He rode on his back to go to Abuja, but, unfortunately, with Ubah’s demise, he has not done anything to show that he has appropriated that structure and he cannot point at anything that he has done.

" This is not to criticize him but to say that our supporters should disregard the rumours that the Senate and House of Reps tickets have been ceded to Ekwusigo.

‘There is no truth in the matter. It is probably the failed APC federal government officials that can be suggesting this. They consider the NDC as a massive threat against their initial wish that Peter Obi would be edged out in ADC so they would sweep the entire South,’ he said, noting that with Obi’s defection to NDC, the APC had pressed the panic button and were spreading all kinds of rumours.

He called on his supporters to disregard the rumour because, according to him, the NDC could not in good conscience concede the Reps and senate tickets to Ekwusigo.

‘Our federal constituency has three local government areas and with all due respect, you can’t say that Ekwusigo is the biggest. Ekwusigo has 12 wards; Nnewi South has 20 wards; and Nnewi North has more registered voters. So you cannot concede these two positions to Ekwusigo.

'How do you even explain this to people? Nobody who loves NDC will be suggesting this; so this must only come from the opposition who don’t want NDC to succeed.

‘In my capacity as the leader of the South East Patriots, I have always insisted that there is need for the South East to partner with the North and Obi has successfully done so by getting a strategic alignment with Kwankwaso who has the biggest organic base in the North. Obi couldn’t have gotten a better partner,’ Ohaegbu stated.

He recalled that before Obi left for the NDC, he had been adopted by the South East ADC as their leader and face of the party.

Ohaegbu said that when Obi left ADC for NDC, the South East left ADC for NDC too, meaning that those in the South East championing that the South East should partner with the North also moved to NDC.

‘So these rumours are just to destabilize NDC,’ he reiterated, urging his supporters to disregard them.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term following a motion moved by the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Afam Victor Ogene.

The decision was reached at the party’s National Convention, where delegates overwhelmingly endorsed the zoning arrangement as part of efforts to promote equity, inclusiveness and national balance within the party.

Under the resolution adopted at the convention, the South will produce the party’s presidential candidate in 2027 for only one term of four years, after which the ticket will rotate to the North in 2031.

The motion for the adoption of the zoning formula was moved by Ogene and received widespread support from party leaders and delegates at the convention.

Party officials described the development as a strategic step toward strengthening unity and ensuring that all sections of the country have a sense of belonging in the party’s leadership structure.

The NDC said the arrangement reflects its commitment to fairness, justice and respect for Nigeria’s diverse political interests.

Political observers believe the resolution could influence early political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election as parties intensify consultations and coalition discussions across the country.

The leadership consultative meeting of the Anambra State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held on Friday at Geogold Hotels, where party leaders described the exit of its former presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, as painful but insisted that “life must move on.”

The meeting was led by the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the November 8 Anambra governorship election, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu.

Speaking after the meeting, Nwobu said the spirit within the Anambra chapter of the ADC remained high despite recent political developments.

“Yes, the exit of our former presidential aspirant is painful, but life must move on. The spirit of the party in Anambra remains very high,” he said.

According to him, nine aspirants had already picked nomination forms for the 2027 general elections, while six others had obtained forms to contest seats in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

“We already have nine aspirants who have picked nomination forms for the 2027 elections and six for the House of Assembly race. That clearly shows that the party is growing stronger,” he added.

The party also extended goodwill to members who had moved to other political platforms.
“We wish our brothers, including Peter Obi, who have moved to other platforms well, and we look forward to a day when all of us will come together again to rescue this country,” Nwobu stated.

The party leaders also reaffirmed their loyalty and support for the national leadership of the ADC headed by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the leaders commended the founding national chairman of the ADC, Ralph Nwosu, for what they described as “his exemplary leadership and selfless role in presenting the ADC platform as an umbrella body for the coalition.”

“We wish to commend our brother, Ralph Nwosu, for the exemplary show of leadership and his selfless role in navigating the coalition to fruition,” Nwobu stated.

The Anambra ADC leadership further noted that since the party originated from Anambra State, the state chapter would continue to play a leading role in ensuring the success of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Considering that the ADC has its roots in Anambra State, we will not fold our hands. We will continue to work tirelessly for the success of the party in 2027,” the leaders declared.

I No Longer Parade As Awka Monarch — Ndigwe Tells Soludo

Tony Okafor, Awka

Fresh drama has erupted in the long-running Awka kingship tussle as Chief Austin Ndigwe has formally declared that he no longer presents himself as the traditional ruler of the ancient community.

The development, which surfaced on Tuesday, was disclosed by former Senior Aide to Anambra State Governor, Mazi Ejimofor Opara.

According to him, Ndigwe communicated his position in a personally signed letter addressed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the state Attorney General.

In the letter, Ndigwe distanced himself from viral social media reports linking him to the disputed throne, describing such claims as false, misleading, and orchestrated to implicate him.

“Such information seeks to implicate me… they are made in utmost bad faith,” he stated, insisting he neither authorised nor endorsed any publication portraying him as the monarch of Awka.

He further pledged his commitment to peace, stressing his respect for the Anambra State Government’s White Paper on the Awka kingship dispute, which emanated from a judicial commission of inquiry.

The latest move comes against the backdrop of the state government’s decisive intervention in the protracted crisis.

In its White Paper, the government affirmed Gibson Nwosu as the only recognised and substantive traditional ruler of Awka, effectively putting an end to rival claims.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Tochukwu Nweke, announced that the decision followed the findings of a commission of inquiry chaired by retired Justice Paul Obidigwe, which investigated the kingship dispute spanning over a decade.

Central to the resolution is the reaffirmation of the 1986 Awka Traditional Rulers Amended Constitution, which provides for a rotational kingship system between the Ifite and Ezi sections of the community.

The government held that Ndigwe’s emergence did not comply with this established framework.

Authorities also issued a stern warning that any individual parading as the Obi of Awka outside the recognised structure would be deemed an impostor and face legal consequences.

Stakeholders in the community have been urged to embrace the government’s position in the interest of unity and development.

Ndigwe’s latest declaration is expected to recalibrate the dynamics of the dispute, even as observers await reactions from various quarters within Awka and beyond.

The 2025 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, John Chuma Nwosu (JCN), has showered praises on Nigerian workers, describing them as the “true drivers of society” in a stirring Workers’ Day message.

In a statement released on Friday ,Nwosu saluted the “diligent men and women” whose daily grind keeps the economy alive and communities thriving, despite mounting challenges.

“Your resilience, innovation, and dedication remain the foundation of Anambra’s growth and Nigeria’s progress,” he declared.

The frontline politician did not stop at praise. He used the occasion to call for urgent improvements in workers’ welfare, insisting that Nigerian workers deserve better pay, modern tools, and stronger support systems.

“Labour is more than a means of livelihood—it is a force that shapes development and inspires transformation,” Nwosu stated.

He stressed that with the right mix of policies, technology-driven governance, and strategic investments, the state could unlock massive opportunities, boost businesses, and build a more inclusive economy.

The ADC flagbearer also painted a hopeful picture of the future, hinging it on a well-equipped and empowered workforce.

“The future lies in a workforce that is empowered, skilled, and well-supported—and that is the future we must build together,” he added.

Nwosu urged workers not to lose hope, encouraging them to remain steadfast and committed.

“Keep pushing forward. Keep creating value. Keep believing,” he charged.

His message comes amid growing concerns over workers’ welfare across the country, with many calling for reforms to improve salaries, working conditions, and job security.

As Nigeria marks Workers’ Day, Nwosu’s remarks have added to the chorus of voices demanding a better deal for the nation’s workforce.

Intersociety hails Attah’s UNIZIK appointment, condemns Kukah, Mbadinuju COOU honours

Tony Okafor, Awka

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, Intersociety, has applauded the appointment of rights activist Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah as Director of Information and Public Relations of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, while rejecting the appointment of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah as Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, and condemning the renaming of the institution’s Uli campus after former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Onitsha, signed by its Board Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, the group described Attah’s ratification by UNIZIK’s Governing Council on April 17 as meritorious, citing his longstanding record in grassroots human rights advocacy, journalism, and public engagement.

The statement was jointly signed by Umeagbalasi; Chidinma Evangeline Udegbunam, human rights lawyer and Head of Campaign and Publicity; Obianuju Joy Igboeli, human rights lawyer and Head of Civil Liberties and Rule of Law; and Comrade Chibueze Nwajiaku, Deputy Head of Policing and Law Enforcement.

It noted that Attah emerged from Onitsha’s trading community in the late 1990s and rose through the ranks of civil society activism under Umeagbalasi’s mentorship, contributing significantly to the activities of the Civil Liberties Organisation in Anambra State during the 2000s.

The organisation said Attah’s academic and professional trajectory, which includes a first degree from UNIZIK and a master’s from COOU, reflects “grassroots intellectualism.”

It added that several activists from the Onitsha business community have similarly combined enterprise, education, and advocacy to attain academic and professional distinction.

Intersociety argued that such developments challenge long-standing stereotypes about traders and non-traditional scholars, insisting that activism has evolved into a platform for rigorous research, data gathering, and public policy engagement.

The group, however, expressed strong opposition to the appointment of Bishop Kukah as Chancellor of COOU, contending that he had not done enough to address insecurity and violence against Christians in Nigeria despite his influence and access to political authorities.

It said its position was based on what it described as a pattern of perceived inaction during critical periods, noting that critics had also questioned his multiple high-level appointments in both federal and state institutions.

Intersociety further rejected the decision to rename the Uli campus of COOU after Mbadinuju, maintaining that the university, already renamed in honour of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, should retain a unified identity across its campuses.

It argued that any attempt to assign separate names to individual campuses undermines the historical and symbolic significance of the institution, while also criticising the record of governance in Anambra State between 1999 and 2003 under Mbadinuju.

At the same time, Intersociety commended Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for approving automatic employment for 37 first-class graduates of COOU, describing the move as commendable but urging that the appointments be made permanent in accordance with the state’s civil service rules.

It cautioned that the initiative should not be reduced to temporary political patronage tied to the tenure of the current administration, stressing the need for full integration of the beneficiaries into the civil service structure with guaranteed rights and career progression.

Fee Hike Anger Shuts Down Catholic School in Awka

By Tony Okafor, Awka

A major crisis has hit Aquinas Model Nursery and Primary School, Agu Awka, as furious parents on Tuesday boycotted the resumption of third term over a shocking 43 percent increase in school fees.

The school, managed by St. Thomas Catholic Church, was practically deserted, with classrooms empty and activities grounded as parents and guardians kept their children at home in protest.

The angry parents, most of whom are parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, stormed the school premises, accusing the newly posted Manager of imposing the hike without consultation.

They described the increment as “unfair, unilateral and exploitative,” demanding the immediate removal of the priest in charge.

Tension escalated as the parents revealed that the fee hike was communicated through letters sent via pupils — a move they called “demeaning and disrespectful.”

According to them, the action bypassed the long-standing tradition where fee decisions are jointly discussed during PTA meetings before a new academic session.

“This is not how things are done here,” one parent fumed. “For over 20 years, the PTA has been part of decision-making. Now, we are completely ignored.”

The situation worsened when the Manager allegedly dismissed their appeal during Mass, reportedly warning that he could “drop his cassock and descend into the gutters” if provoked further.

“He has increased fees twice before, and now again. All he cares about is money,” another parent alleged.

Parents also accused the Manager of sidelining the PTA entirely, claiming no meetings have been held since his return, effectively crippling a body that has supported the school for decades.

They further raised concerns that the fee increase is not aimed at improving learning conditions or staff welfare, but to fund the construction of a secondary school and repay loans tied to the project.

“For eight years, we’ve been asked to contribute to this secondary school, yet it is still at foundation level,” a parent lamented. “Why should our children suffer for it?”

The protesters have now called on the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, to urgently intervene, warning that the school risks total collapse if the situation continues.

“This Manager is running the school aground. If nothing is done, Aquinas Model School may shut down completely,” they warned.

In a twist, the school management has issued a stern warning to parents.
In a notice signed by Rev. Fr. Paschal Nnajiofor, any parent found protesting or inciting others against the fee hike faces sanctions.

The notice also warned that children of parents involved in “violence or gangsterism” would be expelled.

“We are committed to the safety of our pupils and church property. The school environment is sacred and must be respected,” the statement read.

Despite an initial intervention by the parish priest, the aggrieved parents insist they will escalate the matter to the diocesan bishop if their demands are not met.

As the standoff deepens, the future of the once-thriving Catholic school now hangs in the balance.

Prince Arthur Eze’s Dunukofia Seeks Equity, Appeals to Political Parties for 2027 Reps Seat

Tony Okafor, Awka

A coalition of traditional rulers, community leaders and stakeholders from Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State has issued an open letter to the national chairmen of political parties, urging them to zone the 2027 House of Representatives ticket for the Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency to Dunukofia in the interest of equity and inclusivity.

Our correspondent learnt that oil mogul Prince Arthur Eze hails from Dunukofia LGA, while his brother, HRH Igwe Dr. Robert Eze (Okofia VI), a signatory to the appeal, is the traditional ruler of Ukpo, one of the towns in Dunukofia.

The appeal, addressed to the leadership
of major parties including the All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), among others, highlights what the signatories described as a “prolonged imbalance” in representation within the constituency.

The Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency, often referred to as DNA, comprises three local government areas: Dunukofia with 14 political wards, Njikoka with 18 wards, and Anaocha with 19 wards.

In the letter, the stakeholders noted that representation in the House of Representatives over the past 28 years has alternated between Njikoka and Anaocha, with the former holding the seat for 16 years and the latter for 12 years.

Dunukofia, they said, has not produced a representative within the period, a situation they argued has fostered a sense of marginalisation among its people.

“This prolonged absence has not gone unnoticed. It has created a feeling of alienation and exclusion from national discourse among the people of Dunukofia,” the letter stated, adding that despite their consistent participation in elections and contributions to the constituency, they have remained on the sidelines of federal representation.

The stakeholders disclosed that traditional rulers and community leaders from Dunukofia had initiated consultations with their counterparts in Njikoka and Anaocha, seeking support for a rotational arrangement that would allow Dunukofia produce the next representative.

According to the letter, the outreach has yielded positive results, with leaders from the neighbouring local government areas expressing support for the proposal.

“Their gracious reception and approval signal a shared commitment to justice and mutual respect among the three local governments,” the statement read.

On the strength of this consensus, the group appealed to political parties to zone their 2027 tickets for the constituency exclusively to candidates from Dunukofia.

They argued that such a decision would not only correct what they described as a historical imbalance but also strengthen unity and democratic participation across the constituency.

The stakeholders listed several anticipated benefits of the proposed zoning arrangement, including the promotion of fairness, enhancement of peace and cohesion, and recognition of the patience and loyalty demonstrated by the people of Dunukofia over the years.

They further commended the people and leadership of Njikoka and Anaocha for what they described as their “magnanimity and commitment to the greater good,” noting that conceding the seat would require sacrifice but would ultimately deepen trust within the constituency.

“We believe democracy is not only about numbers but also about fairness, compassion and deliberate inclusion of all voices,” the letter added.

The appeal was jointly signed by traditional rulers and president-generals from the six communities that make up Dunukofia LGA.

Among the signatories are HRH Igwe Dr. Robert Eze (Okofia VI), Igwe of Ukpo; HRM Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno (JP), Igwe of Ifitedunu; Igwe Engr Ben Anochie (Agidigbo), Igwe of Umunnachi; High Chief Dr. Ben Amuta, Ugochukwutubelu Dunukofia and Regent of Umudioka; HRH Igwe Peter Uyanwa (Ezedike), Igwe of Ukwulu; and HRH Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu, Igwe Orachili of Nawgu.

Also signatories are Chief Sir Cyrilwalter Ezewulu, President-General of Ukpo; Prof. Stephen Ufuaro, President-General of Ifitedunu; Engr Ofodile Anieto, President-General of Umunnachi; Chief Onyechi Val Adinnu, President-General of Umudioka; Hon. Uba Ayiofu, President-General of Ukwulu; and Hon. Mathew Ibebugwu, President-General of Nawgu.

The group expressed optimism that party leaders would consider their request in line with democratic ideals and the need to ensure that every segment of the constituency feels represented.

“As the 2027 general elections approach, we trust in the wisdom and sense of justice of political parties to build a more inclusive and harmonious constituency,” the letter maintained.

2027: Tinubu for President, APGA for All Other Positions in Anambra — Obigwe

Tony Okafor, Awka

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reaffirmed its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while declaring its determination to secure all National and State Assembly seats in Anambra State.

The position, contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the APGA Media Forum, follows a directive attributed to the party’s national leader and Anambra State Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who, according to party sources, has urged members to back Tinubu’s second-term bid but remain resolute in delivering victories for APGA candidates in the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.

Obigwe cautioned the public against what he described as “misleading political gimmicks” by opposition figures, insisting that APGA’s stance should not be misconstrued as an endorsement of candidates from rival parties.

Specifically, he dismissed a campaign poster allegedly circulated by an APC House of Representatives aspirant, Maxwell S. C. Okoye, which features images of Governor Soludo, President Tinubu and the aspirant, suggesting a unified progressive front.

He described the move as deceptive, stressing that the governor’s declaration of “progressives working together” refers strictly to the working relationship between the Anambra State Government and the Federal Government under Tinubu, and not support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress in legislative contests within the state.

Obigwe maintained that Governor Soludo would personally lead campaigns encouraging Anambra voters to support Tinubu’s re-election, while mobilising support for APGA candidates across all legislative positions once they emerge.

“In Anambra, it is Tinubu for President and APGA for Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly,” he said.

The development underscores APGA’s long-standing strategy of aligning with the Federal Government while maintaining dominance in state politics.

APGA House of Reps Aspirant Attacked in Anambra, Two Security Aides Shot

Tension gripped parts of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday morning as an aspirant for the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Ifeanyi Ibezi, was attacked at Agbaja, Abatete, leaving two of his security aides with gunshot wounds.

Dr Ibezi, who seeks to represent Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, said the incident occurred at a community civic centre where he had scheduled a stakeholders’ meeting as part of his consultations ahead of the next general elections.

Addressing journalists at the scene, the former lawmaker said the injured security operatives had been rushed to hospital and were undergoing surgery.

“Two of my security men were shot and wounded. They have been taken to the hospital and are currently in the theatre,” he said.

The aspirant explained that all arrangements had been concluded for the meeting when he received, on Saturday evening, a purported letter allegedly issued by the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, barring him from using the venue.

According to him, the letter was circulated on social media and was neither formally delivered to him nor verified through official channels.

He said he subsequently forwarded both the letter and his rebuttal to relevant authorities, including the state governor and party leadership.

“I wrote to stakeholders of Idemili North and South for a meeting today to discuss my aspiration to return to the House of Representatives. Everything was in place until I saw a purported letter on WhatsApp claiming I could not use the facility,” he said.

Ibezi stated that despite the development, preparations continued until early Sunday morning when he was alerted that armed personnel had taken over the venue.

“By about 6 a.m., I got a call that a contingent of armed men had cordoned off the premises. When I arrived, I was confronted by security operatives and local vigilantes who said they were acting on the instruction of the local government chairman to stop the event,” he alleged.

He further said that one of the operatives threatened him with a firearm, warning him against proceeding with the meeting.

According to him, the situation escalated as the armed men began firing shots into the air for over an hour, causing panic in the area.

“I immediately contacted the State Director of the Department of State Services, the Commissioner of Police, and other relevant authorities, including the governor. While I was on the phone, the shooting continued,” he said.

Ibezi said the shooting later turned violent, resulting in two security officers attached to him being hit by bullets.

“It was in the course of the shooting that two of my policemen were shot. We have video evidence of everything that happened,” he added.

The aspirant also alleged that some of the armed men issued threats to his life, but he instructed his team not to retaliate in order to avoid further escalation.

“I told my men to remain calm, not to respond or engage them. I am a law-abiding citizen and will not take the law into my hands,” he said.

He disclosed that he had earlier spoken with the state governor on Saturday night, who, according to him, expressed concern over the situation and promised to intervene by contacting the local government authorities.

“As of this morning, I have not been able to reach the mayor, and he has not returned my calls. The governor is aware and is making efforts to reach him,” Ibezi stated.

Citing constitutional provisions, the aspirant insisted that he had the right to hold a lawful assembly, describing the disruption as a violation of his rights.
“Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) guarantees freedom of assembly.
This was a private event in a community facility, and there was no justification for stopping it in this manner,” he said.

The Udo Ga-Achi security operatives who cordoned off the venue of the botched event a threatened to seize the cameras and phones of journalists, calling them unprintable names.

“Go and seize those cameras and phones. What are they here for? We are on instructions not to allow anybody here What is journalist?” their commander roared

Efforts to reach the Mayor of Idemili North for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident through the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, but said details were still sketchy.
