Correspondents' Chapel Suspends Anambra NAWOJ Chairperson, Tochukwu Ifejika

The Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists( NUJ), Anambra State Council, has suspended Mrs. Tochukwu Ifejika, Chairperson of the Anambra chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), for engaging in anti-union activities and other infractions.

A letter signed by Chapel Chairman Chuks Ilozue and Secretary Lucy Osuizigbo stated that Ifejika's actions contravened the union's constitution, which emphasizes internal conflict resolution.

Specifically, the Correspondents' Chapel leadership, said Ifejika took union matters to the Department of State Security Service (DSS), making baseless allegations that damaged the chapel's reputation and leadership.

The suspension letter read in part: "You have been engaging in activities directly contrary to the values of this organization, including undermining the union's integrity and fostering a divisive environment among members."

Ifejika is required to refrain from chapel-related duties during the suspension period, pending further investigation.

She will be notified about potential further actions, including a hearing to address these matters.


The letter of suspension reads:

[We are writing to formally notify you of your immediate suspension from the Correspondents' Chapel, due to breaches of conduct, including involvement in anti-union activities.


It has come to our attention that you have been engaging in activities that are directly contrary to the values of this organisation, including undermining the union's integrity and fostering a divisive environment among members.

In addition, you took issues of the Chapel to the Department of State Security Service (DSS), and making baseless allegations thereby showing disdain for the chapel which have resulted in significant damage to the reputation of the Chapel and its leadership.

As part of the suspension, you are required to refrain from any duty related to the Chapel for the duration of the suspension period, pending further investigation.

You will be notified in due course regarding any further actions, including the possibility of a hearing to address these matters.

Ifejika's suspension comes barely 24 hours after the chapel suspended Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD, Chairman of the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), for similar offences.]

It's worth noting that both Odogwu and Ifejika were suspended as members of the Correspondents' Chapel, where they held nominal memberships, rather than in their capacities as NUJ and NAWOJ chairpersons, respectively.

Breaking : Anambra NUJ Chairman, Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Suspended

The Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has suspended the state's Chairman, Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, effective immediately.

This decision was made due to various infractions, including Odogwu's failure to exhaust internal mechanisms before reporting union matters to the Directorate of State Service ( DSS)

According to a statement signed by Chapel Chairman Chief Chuks Ilozue and Secretary Lucy Osuizigbo, Odogwu's suspension stems from his manipulation of records in the last Anambra State NUJ election where he allegedly.falsely claimed membership of the Correspondents' Chapel and contested the Anambra NUJ council election without clearance from the chapel's leadership.

The statement further accused Odogwu of "serious breach of trust and impunity," particularly given his status as a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, which renders him ineligible for membership in the Correspondents' Chapel.

Additional infractions include Odogwu's instruction to pay members' check-off dues and practicing fees into a private account instead of the union's account, deemed a "blatant disregard for rules."

The Correspondents' Chapel has suspended Odogwu pending his purging of these offenses.

Continuing, the chapel's leadership clarified that they do not intend to join issues with the state council of the NUJ, but rather wish to set the record straight.

The chapel's account of events highlights a series of disagreements and misunderstandings between Odogwu and the Correspondents' Chapel, including issues surrounding check-off dues, practicing fees, and the chapel's election.

The statement read in part,"Re: Disclaimer: Anambra State Correspondents’ Chapel Inaugurates New Leadership: Setting the Record Straight

We do not intend to join issues with the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) knowing that we are still one family. We, however, wish to set the record straight.


1. On the tenure of Chief Chuks Ilozue: Chief Ilozue’s tenure elapsed on July 27, 2024 and in the Chapel’s monthly meeting of June 2024, he duly announced it whereupon a motion was moved and sustained that the incumbent administration should run for another term.


2. Knowing the stipulations of NUJ constitution that election observed by the state council must be held to make the leadership legitimate, the chapel wrote to NUJ in a letter dated June 3, 2024 informing it about the resolution.


3. Nevertheless, the Chapel once again wrote to NUJ forwarding list of members of the electoral/ Credentials committee for approval.


4. The NUJ wrote back to the Chapel in a letter dated July 10, 2024, approving the election but advising that members of the electoral/Credentials committee as well as contenders and voters must pay all dues prescribed in NUJ constitution.

5. However, just as the chapel prepared for the election, the chairman of NUJ, Emeka Odogwu in an event at UNIZIK took the chairman (Ilozue) to a corner and claimed that he sourced money privately and paid the check-off dues of the chapel and should be refunded.


6. Odogwu explained that that was the reason he asked the chairman to pay his own check-off dues and practicing fees into a private bank account which the chairman Ilozue refused.


7. This going back and forth continued until the chapel decided to hold its election on September 11, 2024.


8. Surprisingly, on September 9, 2024, chairman, Ilozue, got a call from the Department of State Security Service (DSS), asking that the election be put on hold, citing unresolved grey areas. Afterwards, Ilozue travelled.


9. On his return, he met with DSS officials who after discussion asked him to write to them stating when the Chapel’s election will hold.


10. The chapel wrote the DSS in a letter dated March 4, 2025, notifying them that the Chapel's election would hold as Wednesday, March 19, 2025.


11. Again on March 17, 2025, DSS office called to inform the chairman, Ilozue that Odogwu was mounting pressure on it asking that the election should not hold.


12. In the light of this, the chapel observed that Odogwu deliberately wanted to cripple the chapel and, therefore, the chapel must fight for survival. A chapel that fails to hold meetings and other activities is on the brink of extinction.


THE ISSUE OF CHECK-OFF DUES AND PRACTICE FEES:

13. It should be noted that more than half of members of the Chapel have their check-off dues drawn by the union at source, while most of the remaining members already have their practicing fees paid to the chapel ahead of the election.


14. It is important to note, however, that Odogwu, who claimed to have settled the chapel's debt to the council, did so without consulting the Chapel chairman about the payment proposal, the number of members paid for or the amount that was actually paid.


15. If Odogwu claimed to have cleared the Chapel's debt, why were members disenfranchised during the last NUJ Anambra Council election?


16. These are seen as an afterthought, having failed to get chapel members to pay money accruable to the council into his private account or those of his lackeys.


17. It is for this dilemma of paying Council's money into private account that the chapel has not been able to remit the practicing fees it has so far realized from members to the council.


18. In the final analysis the Chapel, at the March Monthly Congress, decided to affirm the leadership of Ilozue by returning all those who indicated interest and were cleared for election.

EDITORIAL: EEDC's Boycott of Awka Stakeholders' Meeting: A Threat To Public Peace

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company's (EEDC) boycott of the Awka Stakeholders' Meeting, convened by renowned right activist Osita Obi, is a concerning development that could potentially threaten public peace.

The meeting aimed to address the perennial power supply challenges plaguing the region.


Despite widespread publicity, the EEDC's absence was a glaring snub, leaving consumers feeling frustrated, ignored, and disenfranchised.

The company's failure to attend the meeting is a clear abdication of its responsibility to engage with its customers and address their grievances.

The EEDC's monopoly on power supply in the region has led to inefficiencies, unreliable services, exploitation of consumers, and often public protests.

For instance, the company's erratic billing system has resulted in many consumers receiving inflated bills, while others have been subjected to prolonged power outages without any explanation or compensation.

Boycotting the meeting may be perceived as a disregard for the concerns of the community, which could lead to widespread frustration and discontent among residents.

The boycott may be viewed as a betrayal of public trust, as the EEDC is expected to engage with the stakeholders and address their concerns.

To mitigate this risk, it is essential for the EEDC to re-engage with the community/stakeholders and address their concerns in a transparent and timely manner.

This may involve providing explanations for their absence from the meeting and working to rebuild trust with the community.

The demands made by consumers at the Awka meeting are reasonable and deserving of urgent attention.

These demands include the unbundling of the EEDC to promote competition, the establishment of independent power plants to increase supply, and the enactment of legislation to regulate electricity billing.

We call on the relevant authorities, including the Anambra State Government, the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the Federal Government, to take immediate action to address these demands. The EEDC must be held accountable for its actions and inactions.

The people of Anambra State and the region in general deserve better. They deserve reliable, efficient, and affordable electricity supply. It is time for the EEDC to listen to the voices of its customers and take concrete steps to address their concerns.

As we move forward, we urge consumers to remain vigilant and continue to demand better services from the EEDC.

The time for change is now, and it is imperative that the EEDC and relevant authorities take immediate action to address the concerns of the people and provide reliable, efficient, and affordable electricity supply.

EDITORIAL: Stop Legislating Nonsense, Focus on Priorities

As Nigeria navigates the complexities of governance, our lawmakers must reassess their priorities and focus on legislation that addresses the pressing needs of the people.

The recent attempt to introduce a 60-year age limit for elective positions, such as the presidency and governorships, to say the least, is a misplaced priority.

Globally, the standard rule is clear: legislation focuses on minimum age requirements for elective positions, not maximum age limits.

This approach ensures that individuals with the requisite wisdom, and maturity are eligible to hold public office.

By introducing a maximum age limit, our lawmakers are deviating from global best practices and undermining democracy and meritocracy.

Nigeria's problems are multifaceted and well-documented .LHunger, suffering, unemployment, corruption, and underdevelopment demand urgent attention.

Instead of tackling these challenges, our lawmakers are "majoring on the minor and 'minoring' on the major things." This misallocation of resources and energy must be addressed.

Effective leadership is not determined by age. Examples from India and Singapore demonstrate that age is not a barrier to visionary leadership.

The real problem facing Nigeria is not the age of our leaders but their incompetence, lack of capacity, and corruption.

Our lawmakers should focus on these issues, not arbitrary age limits.

To address these challenges, our lawmakers should prioritize legislation that promotes employment, fights corruption, and drives development.

They should also undergo regular international training and capacity-building programmes to enhance their effectiveness.

We urge our lawmakers to rise to the challenge of leadership and legislate for the greater good of Nigeria and Nigerians.

By reorienting their priorities, our lawmakers can restore trust and set Nigeria on a path towards sustainable development and prosperity.

Anambra Guber: Ikemba Front Formally Endorses Nicholas Ukachukwu

The Ikemba Front, an All Progressives Congress (APC) support group in Anambra State has formally adopted an Abuja based business man and politician, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as their preferred candidate for the April 5 Governorship Primary in Anambra State
Announcing the endorsement in Awka in the presence of full compliment of organs of the support group, the National Adviser and the Vice-Chairman of Council of Elders of Ikemba Front, Elder Johnny Oraefo, said they were not endorsing Ukachukwu to only win the party primary but to also take APC to victory in the November 8, 2025 Governorship election.
He said after carefully analysing all the aspirants from Anambra South Senatorial zone, they found him, Ukachukwu, the best candidate to secure victory for the party on November 8 election.
He said they were convinced of the capacity of Ukachukwu to beef up security, drastically reduce poverty and provide economic development for the people of the State.
In his speech, the National Coordinator of Ikemba Front, Sir Arinzechukwu Awogu, who had earlier traced the history of the group to late Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, expressed confidence that Ukachukwu's leadership would usher in a new era of prosperity to Anambra people.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the zoning arrangement in the State which he said favoured the South Senatorial zone of the State.
Awogu, former chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area said that they owe the party a debt to zero in to the candidate of Anambra South, saying that zoning ushered sense of balance and accommodation in the State.
He said from all the empirical evaluation, Prince Ukachukwu is the right candidate to run and win the election for APC,saying that they believed that if the right candidate emerges, victory is assured.
The Ikemba Front Coordinator said Ukachukwu was not planning to run but with the demise of their former principal, Senator Ubah, they found out that he was the only person who can step into Ubah's big shoe, saying that Ukachukwu had given Ubah all the support he needed to achieve his governorship ambition when he was alive.
The highlight of the ocassion was the award given to some individuals for their support to Ikemba Front.
The recipients of the award were Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Dr. Tony Aniukwu, Dr. Ejike Ezendu, Chief Linus Ezenkwu, Amede Bryan Philip-Deane and Ugochukwu Okenwa.

Proliferation of Speed Bumps In Anambra Communities and Soludo's New Roads

As Anambra State continues to witness unprecedented transformation under Governor Chukwuma Soludo's leadership, with the construction and rehabilitation of roads, it is imperative that we safeguard these infrastructure investments.

The widespread installation of speed bumps on newly constructed roads in many of our communities poses a significant threat to the longevity and effectiveness of these critical infrastructure investments.

Recent data reveals that the unchecked installation of speed bumps has led to a 30% surge in road damage and a 25% decline in traffic flow, thereby increasing the risk of avoidable accidents.

While the intention behind these speed bumps may be to ensure safety, their haphazard installation can have far-reaching consequences.

Not only do they damage the smooth movement of traffic, they also compromise the structural integrity of the roads.

This, in turn, can lead to premature wear and tear, necessitating costly repairs and undermining the long-term viability of these critical infrastructure projects.

It is essential that communities recognize the importance of preserving these roads and the benefits they bring to the state's economic and social development.

Rather than resorting to speed bumps, communities can explore alternative measures to ensure road safety.

Installing proper road signage, for instance, can effectively alert drivers to potential hazards and encourage responsible driving practices.

Enhancing community engagement through public awareness campaigns and collaboration with local authorities can also foster a culture of road safety and responsibility.

Implementing traffic calming measures, such as speed tables or chicanes, can slow traffic without causing damage to the road infrastructure.

Additionally, we urge the Anambra State Government to establish a task force to regulate the installation of speed bumps and ensure that they are constructed in accordance with safety standards.


We further urge communities to desist from constructing speed bumps on newly built roads without obtaining the necessary approvals."

Presidents General and Traditional Rulers should help to check this unwholesome exercise in their communities.

This synergy is one sure way we can ensure that our infrastructure investments continue to drive progress and prosperity for generations to come.

Ultimately, smooth roads are best complemented by effective speed-calming measures, such as United Nations-approved speed bumps, which are electronically guided and designed with safety in mind, but not the makeshift, culvert-like structures that often proliferate on our roads.

UNIZIK to Award Doctoral Degree to Tinubu's Son as it Graduates 8,157.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State,is set to confer a doctoral degree(honoris causa)on Oluwaseyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as part of its 19th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, to Friday, March 28, 2025.

The university will also award honorary doctoral degrees to two other persons: Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Chief Chika Emenike, CEO of KOTEC Group.

A total of 8,157 graduates will participate in the convocation ceremony, including 6,126 first-degree recipients, 163 postgraduate diploma holders, 706 postgraduate diploma in education recipients, 680 master's degree awardees, 463 individuals to be conferred with doctorate degrees, and 16 doctoral students from the UNIZIK Business School.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, who announced these during a preconvocation press briefing,highlighted the university's progress, citing significant growth, stability, and peace following its recent leadership crisis.

He emphasized efforts to improve the university's academic, administrative, and infrastructural terrain, including campus beautification, improved electricity supply, enhanced security, and the promotion of digitization.

As part of the convocation activities, he announced that the university would commission several completed projects, including new office blocks, TETFund hostels, and a state-of-the-art Social Sciences Auditorium.

He emphasized that these developments aim to create a more conducive environment for both learning and professional growth.

Ifeanyi Ubah Group Condemns Ikemba Front's Attack on Umahi For Hailing Soludo

A faction of the Ikemba Front, a support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has come under fire for criticizing Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, over his endorsement of Governor Chukwuma Soludo's reelection bid.

Kamen Chuks Ogbonna, leader of the late Ifeanyi Ubah Media and political family, berated the faction, saying, "I saw a press statement this morning from a faction of Ikemba front calling on Mr President to call the Hon Minister for works, Mr Dave Umahi to order and I ask them, should the C-in-C also call himself to order too or are they too blind to understand the handwriting on the wall?"

Ogbonna emphasized that politics of development should be the endgame, rather than political party affiliation or selfish interests.

He also highlighted Governor Soludo's achievements, allocating over 70% of the state's budget to capital projects without borrowing.

The Ikemba Front Factional National Coordinator, Sir Arinzechukwu Awogu, had earlier accused Umahi of engaging in anti-party activity, speaking from a point of "monumental ignorance" about APC's recent gains in Anambra State.

Awogu challenged Umahi to disclose Soludo's election results as a sitting governor and emphasized Umahi's failure to deliver President Tinubu in his state during the presidential election.

The APC has seven aspirants vying for its guber ticket in the April 5 primary election, including Sir Paul Chukwuma, Prof Obiora Okonkwo, and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.

The Ikemba Front has urged President Tinubu to reprimand Umahi for indulging in anti-party activity, insisting that APC would thoroughly defeat Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.

EDITORIAL: Anambra APC's Dilemma: Confront Your Demons, Choose Loyalty Or Mercantilism

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State prepares for its primary election on April 5, the party stands at a critical juncture.

The outcome of this election will determine the party's chances in the November 8 Anambra State governorship election against the incumbent governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

To succeed, the APC must confront its demons and make a choice between mercantilism and loyalty.

The party's history of internal sabotage, lack of trust, hijack, and opportunism has hindered its growth in the state.

The APC's mercantilist approach has empowered opposition parties, such as the APGA, with President Tinubu's administration appointing APGA members to federal positions.

This situation had demoralized APC loyalists in the state, until recent interventions by one of its governorship aspirants, who provided a state secretariat and offices in the 21 local government areas and 326 wards for the party.

However, the party's progress is threatened again by the emergence of opportunistic individuals, now described as "steak holders," who have neither invested in the party's development nor growth.

These individuals are driven by self-interest, seeking power not to win the governorship election but to further their own future appointments or business interests with the National Government.

To overcome this challenge, the APC National Working Committee and other organs must take immediate action.

They must withdraw from partisanship in Anambra's internal affairs, enforce fairness, equity, and justice, and ensure that the party's internal processes are transparent and credible.

The APC must also prioritize loyalty and commitment to the party's growth over mercantilism and opportunism.

The party should adopt a more inclusive and participatory approach, involving grassroots supporters and stakeholders in the decision-making process.

This will help to build trust, strengthen party structures, and increase the party's chances of success in the November election.

The APC in Anambra State has a choice to make. It can continue down the path of manipulation and factionalism or rise above the crisis and reclaim its original vision of progressive politics.

By choosing loyalty and commitment over mercantilism and opportunism, the APC can build a strong and cohesive party that can win the governorship election and provide good governance to the people of Anambra State.

The time to make that choice is now.

Stop Supporting Disobedience of Court Orders, Nimo Citizens Tell Nwabunwanne

Embattled Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Tony Collins Nwabunne has been asked to stay away from creating problems in the once peaceful Nimo Community of Anambra State by supporting a group disobeying the orders of a court.

This call was made by a group known as Nimo Citizens for Good Governance at the conclusion of their last meeting during which they discussed among other things the ongoing issues with Nimo Town Development Union Government.

In December 2023, the group recalled, Commissioner Nwabunwanne set aside the Constitution of Nimo Town and the constitutionally appointed Electoral Body and conducted what they called a kangaroo election for Nimo, despite warnings that he neither had the rights nor the powers to overrule the Constitution for the purpose of installing those the group described as his friends as Town Union officers.

The group, speaking through its spokesperson, Mr Eziafa Ajagu, further observed that, ‘Despite a court judgement sacking the de-facto Town Union Government installed by Mr Nwabunwanne, he had continued to use his office to support their illegal administration, advising them not to obey the court order.

‘He was recently reported to have told members of the constitutionally set up Caretaker Committee to share administrative powers with the defunct de-facto Nimo Town Union officers.’


The group also alleged that the Commissioner’s move as a government official was self-serving and fueled by a promise of political support.

‘It is also alleged that the Commissioner may be benefitting financially from the process of illegal sand mining close to N1b over a period of 13 months by the sacked Zelunjo NTDU excos. That may explain why he is hell bent on supporting a court sacked group of officers.

‘All we are saying is that Mr. Tony Collins, who happens to be an in-law of Nimo, needs to stay away from meddling with the Constitution of Nimo for personal and political benefits. He should also withdraw their certificate and instruct the sacked officers to obey the court judgement.



‘Nimo people are asking the Governor to warn his Commissioner to desist from the deceitful acts that are responsible for the ongoing crises he has plunged Nimo into.’

The Commissioner had earlier said he was only interested in ensuring that he did not run foul of the law by taking precipitate action when an appeal had been lodged by the defeated party in court, assuring that it was only after the last judgement that he would be in a position to take a stand.

Abuja: Labour Party's John Nwosu Submits Nomination Forms Amidst Fanfare


The Labour Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja witnessed a momentous occasion as John Chuma Nwosu, the leading gubernatorial aspirant in Anambra State, officially submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to the National Secretariat Office.

Accompanied by passionate party members and energetic youths, his arrival was a testament to the growing support for his candidacy and the party’s vision for the state.

Hon. Oseloka H. Obaze, Chairman of the John Chuma Nwosu’s Campaign Organization expressed the team’s confidence in their aspirant, emphasizing the collective decision to back the best Aspirant for the job.

EDITORIAL: Misuse of State of Emergency: A Threat to Democracy

Yesterday's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State has raised concerns about the misuse of this constitutional provision.

While the President has the power to declare a state of emergency under Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, this provision does not grant the authority to suspend a state governor, deputy governor, or the state House of Assembly.

In fact, subsection four of Section 305 stipulates that the Governor of a state, backed by a two-thirds majority resolution of the House of Assembly, may request the President to declare a state of emergency in their state.

This provision aims to enable the governor, as the chief security officer, to seek federal assistance in maintaining law and order within the state.

Clearly, this provision cannot be interpreted as empowering the governor and the House of Assembly to relinquish their constitutional roles and invite their own suspension.

The suspension of a state governor, deputy governor, and the state House of Assembly is a drastic measure that undermines the principles of democracy and federalism.

Historically, the misuse of the state of emergency provision has led to authoritarianism and human rights abuses.

For instance, in 1962, the Nigerian government declared a state of emergency in the Western Region, which led to the suspension of the regional government and the imposition of a sole administrator.

Rather than taking such a drastic step, the Federal Government should work with the affected state government to address the security challenges facing the state.

This can involve deploying additional security personnel, providing intelligence support, and addressing the root causes of the security challenges.

For example, in 2013, the Jonathan government declared a state of emergency in the northeastern states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, but instead of suspending the governors, it worked with them to establish a joint military task force to combat Boko Haram.

The declaration of a state of emergency should not be used as a pretext to undermine democratic institutions.

Rather, it should be used to address specific security challenges in a manner that respects the principles of democracy and federalism.

We urge the Federal Government to reconsider its approach and work with the Rivers State government to find a solution that upholds the rule of law and protects human rights.

The National Assembly should also review the state of emergency provision to ensure that it is not misused to undermine democratic institutions.

The state of emergency provision should be invoked in a manner that safeguards democratic principles, upholds federalism, and ensures the protection of citizens' rights.

Sabotage:Arrest Transporters Refusing to Cut Fares After Petrol Price Reduction

The recent decrease in petrol prices has brought relief to many Nigerians, but one critical sector has failed to reflect this change: transportation.

In Anambra State, transport fares remain exorbitantly high, perpetuating the suffering of citizens and exacerbating the escalating cost of living.

As a vital component of the economy, the transport sector plays a crucial role in facilitating the movement of goods and people.

The arbitrary increase in transport fares has had a devastating ripple effect on the prices of food items and other essential commodities.

The cost of transportation is a significant determinant of the cost of food items, and the failure to reduce transport fares has further entrenched the hardship faced by citizens.

When petrol prices skyrocketed to between N1400 and N1500, transporters in Anambra State took advantage of the situation to increase their fares.

However, now that petrol prices have dropped to below N1000, these same transporters have refused to reduce their fares. This is unacceptable and smacks of exploitation.

According to recent statistics, transport fares in Anambra State have increased by over 50% despite the decrease in petrol prices.

This unsustainable trend has resulted in increased food prices, reduced access to essential services, and a decline in the overall standard of living.

We condemn the unjustifiable hike in transport fares by transporters in Anambra State and call on the state government to take immediate action.

The government must establish a regulatory framework that ensures transporters do not exploit the people.

This framework should include a price control mechanism to prevent arbitrary fare increases, regular monitoring and enforcement of transport fares, and sanctions for transporters who engage in exploitative practices.

We also call on the leadership of the road transport workers to intervene and ensure that their members do not engage in practices that harm the public.

The actions of transporters in Anambra State constitute economic sabotage, necessitating decisive action from the leadership and government


To the transporters, we demand that you reduce your fares to reflect the current petrol prices.

This is not only a moral imperative but also an economic necessity. The people of Anambra State deserve relief from the crushing burden of high transport fares.

We urge the Anambra State government to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves.

The argument that our society operates under a free enterprise system does not justify the exploitative practices of transporters in this case.

Ifeanyi Ubah Supporters Hail Soludo's Transformation of Okpoko

Okpoko, a densely populated and once-notorious slum in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, has undergone a remarkable transformation under Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration.

The governor's efforts to revamp the community have earned praise from unexpected quarters, including supporters of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

On Saturday, Kamen Chuks Ogbonna, leader of Ifeanyi Ubah's political and media family, toured the revamped Okpoko community and commended Governor Soludo for fulfilling his promise to transform Okpoko into a livable community.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has received accolades from Veteran Nollywood actor Steve Alajemba, also known as Uwaezuoke, for transforming Anambra State into an investment destination.

Alajemba stated this during a facility tour of Soludo's projects in Onitsha, led by the Ifeanyi Ubah political and media family.

The tour was facilitated by Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum.

Alajemba specifically praised the Soludo administration's transformation of the Ochanja roundabout, which he described as a former international dump centre.

He recalled an incident where his Jeep was submerged by floodwaters in the area, highlighting the significant improvements made by the Soludo government.

Debunking the tissue of lies and concocted jibes of failed desperadoes in Oba

On Wednesday 11th March 2025, a junk write-up targeted at distorting facts and desperately trying to impugn the hard-earned integrity and reputation of Engr. Augustine Chinedu Emelobe, the Oba people’s choice for the Igwe and Eze Okpoko II traditional stool whose election is coming up on Saturday 15th March, 2024, surfaced online.

The write up which reeks of jaundiced fabrications, nuances, innuendos, outright lies and barefaced falsehood tried in vain to tar Engr. Emelobe with the brush of blemishes and sought to dress him in a strange garb and thus discredit him in the public eye and the perception of the Anambra State Government.

But any discerning mind who could read between the lines and who has followed the trend of events since the commencement of the Oba Igweship selection/election process would not be surprised on why the write-up surfaced at this time.

Such discerning minds also know that the gibberish followed a similar pattern and trend. It is the handiwork of the six greedy individuals from Oba, who for personal gains and selfish interests have tried their possible best to truncate the collective will of Oba people to elect a traditional ruler of their choice.

They have used various means like false propaganda, threats, frivolous petitions, financial inducements and time-wasting lawsuits to achieve their goal but like in the inimitable Victor Hugo’s quote: "no power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come”, they continue to fail in their antics and inordinate plots.

This latest plot of using a fictitious pen name of Imo Jonathan to concoct lies can be described as another desperation taken too far. It is ridiculous, demeaning and speaks a lot about the character of the desperadoes behind the shameful acts.

Ordinarily, one is tempted to totally ignore the six monkey hands in Oba and maintain a dignified silence over their false allegations but knowing that maintaining silence could be misconstrued to mean acquiescence to their lies it, therefore, becomes necessary to state the truth hereunder:

Engr. Augustine Chinedu Emelobe is not undergoing any trial anywhere for economic crimes. He has no criminal records or case(s) trailing him and neither was he ever indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This labelling and crude manufacturing of non-existent issues is the height of desperation and only exists in the figment of the imagination of the six shameless characters.

The only “plethora” of lawsuits and court injunctions as they stated that ever connected Engr. Emelobe were the various litigations the same characters invented and initiated to thwart the will and wish of the Oba people in the journey to the election of their choice candidate for Igwe and Eze Okpoko of Oba. To the glory of God, however, their man-made obstacles and bottlenecks have continued to collapse like a pack of badly arranged cards. Thankfully too, they were gracious enough to address Engr. Emelobe as the “foremost” candidate contesting the highly revered traditional stool of Oba

The delay in electing a new traditional ruler for Oba, seven years after the demise of the erstwhile Igwe and Eze Okpoko is traced to the same hurdles created by the same six monkey hands, including a prince, who have exploited this vacancy on the throne for their selfish advantage and would even want such situation to remain ad infinitum. However, Oba people have since identified the best among them who is fit for the throne in the person of Engr. Emelobe. All the clandestine plots and fabrications by the well-known six monkey hands will come to naught on Saturday March 15th 2025 when, in obedience to the directives of the Anambra State Governor, the people of Oba will troop out to choose their next Igwe and Eze Okpoko in full view of all and sundry, including Government Observers.

Twisting the facts on the issue of the Oba Microfinance Bank loan simply exposes the hollowness of the six desperadoes behind these distractions. The truth is that there was nothing like N100 million-naira loan from the bank to Engr. Emelobe. Rather it was Engr. Emelobe through his company, Northbridge Energy Limited, that assisted the bank to remain afloat during the COVID-19 era by accepting the investment request from the then Managing Director of the Bank and two other Directors for N100 million at 20% interest rate at a time commercial banks were offering 5% and 3% interest for treasury bills. Northbridge Energy Limited accepted this investment of N100 million to assist the Bank to meet up with their overhead costs. At maturity, Northbridge Energy Limited repaid Oba Microfinance Bank the sum of N120 million for principal and interest in this arm’s length transaction. It should be pointed out that it was the greed of one of the Directors of the Bank (the one who parades himself as prince and, who is the highest beneficiary of a prolonged delay in electing a substantive Igwe and Eze Okpoko of Oba), who demanded that Northbridge Energy Limited pay him the sum of N5 million naira out of the N20 million naira due to the Bank as interest, a demand that was rightly blocked by Engr. Emelobe. The refusal to pay this N5 million naira is what led the prince to write a petition on the matter to the EFCC who, after investigation cleared Engr. Emelobe and Northbridge Energy of any wrongdoing in the transaction.

The hatchet writer, Imo Jonathan, also alleged that Engr. Emelobe was indicted by the EFCC and the FIRS for tax evasion and that he has been in hiding ever since. This barefaced lie can never stand in the face of truth at all. Ever since the journey to the Igwe and Eze Okpoko throne began, Engr. Emelobe has always been available and was never in hiding. He is loved passionately by Oba people, and he has always made himself accessible to Oba people unlike the prince who spends over 90% of his time in faraway USA. It is the prince and his accomplices who currently feast on the collective patrimony of Oba people and, who now feel threatened by the inevitable ascendancy to the throne by Engr. Emelobe that orchestrated yet another petition to EFCC in September 2024, alleging tax evasion among others. Engr. Emelobe again honoured the invitation by the EFCC and, after presenting documentary evidence of his income tax payments and clearance from FIRS, was cleared of any wrongdoing, as alleged.

Engr. Emelobe who is a first-class graduate of University of Benin had a brilliant career at Chevron Nigeria where he retired voluntarily in 2015 as General Manager, after 25 years of meritorious service. This is contrary to the tissue of lies by the prince and his hatchet writer, Imo Jonathan that Engr. Emelobe “was forced to resign after an indictment”. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Nigeria Ltd had confirmed earlier vide a letter dated October 10th 2024, to the President General, Oba Patriotic Union (OPU) that Engr. Emelobe had an impeccable career at Chevron and, retired voluntarily and meritoriously in 2015. There was, therefore, no indictment of Engr. Emelobe at Chevron Nigeria nor was he ever forced to resign.

In what can be best described as the last kick of a dying horse, this jaundiced article also alleged that the Anambra State Government had earlier halted the process of Igweship selection citing “several breach of due process”, including Engr. Emelobe’s non membership of the Ozo Society of Oba. What a watery allegation! Ozo title membership is not a hidden thing in Igboland and Oba because the initiation takes place in the open while the Society knows their own. Consequently, the Otu Nze n’Ozo Society of Oba has confirmed in writing that Engr. Emelobe is a full-fledged member and certified Ozo title holder in Oba. The Society also confirmed their belief that if Engr. Emelobe emerges as the Igwe and Eze Okpoko II of Oba, he will uphold the customs and traditions of Oba.

Let it be stated here that the prince and the other selfish individuals behind these devilish articles, schemes, shenanigans and propaganda are enemies of progress in Oba. They are those who had prospered due to the vacuum in the throne and, who are afraid that Engr. Emelobe, if he ascends the throne, will block all the avenues through which they are presently milking the resources of Oba. They are land thieves who represent everything negative in Oba. This latest action of theirs has already fallen flat in the face of any discerning mind who has been following developments in Oba community.

Thankfully, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo is not one who is easily swayed by sentiments, falsehood and window dressing. And he has wisely directed that the Oba Igweship election be held on Saturday March 15th 2025 in full view of Government and other Observers.

In conclusion, Engr. Augustine C. Emelobe has no pending case with the EFCC. He was never indicted or sacked at his last place of employment, nor did he dodge tax payment as alleged by the faceless Imo Jonathan. Rather Engr. Emelobe is a man of noble birth, character and integrity who has empowered Oba women, youths and the less privileged. This smear campaign against him by the prince and his cohorts through the faceless Imo Jonathan should be discountenanced in its entirety because it lacks credibility and substance. Oba people know their own. The people spoke with one voice on December 21, 2024 in choosing who will be their Igwe. They will speak again on Saturday 15th March 2025 to re-affirm that choice.

EDITORIAL: Anambra PDP: How the Mighty Have Fallen

The Anambra State governorship election is fast approaching, but the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing an unexpected crisis: a lack of interest from aspirants.

However, internal conflicts and power struggles, fueled by personal interests and ego clashes, led to the party's downfall.

The PDP's misgovernance, characterized by corruption, nepotism, and poor policy decisions, further eroded public trust.

The PDP's decline in Anambra serves as a cautionary tale for other political parties in the state and across Nigeria.

Good governance is the only sustainable way to maintain power in a democracy.

Complacency and internal strife can lead to a downfall, as the PDP's experience has shown.

Moreover, the party's failure to adapt to changing voter demographics and aspirations has made it increasingly irrelevant.

To regain its former glory, the PDP in Anambra State must undergo a radical transformation.

The party must address its internal conflicts and power struggles by promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.

This can be achieved by strengthening its internal democratic processes and ensuring that party decisions are made through fair and open elections.

The party must inject new blood into its leadership ranks by identifying and promoting young, dynamic, and visionary leaders who can connect with the aspirations of Anambra State's youth.

Furthermore, the PDP must rebuild its relationships with the people of Anambra State by engaging in grassroots mobilization, listening to their concerns, and responding to their needs.

By taking these steps, the PDP in Anambra State can begin to rebuild its credibility, regain public trust, and reclaim its position as a dominant force in the state's politics.

The question on everyone's lips is: what's next for the PDP in Anambra?

The Supreme Court Must Provide a Definitive Ruling on Defection, Once and for All.

The recent Supreme Court decision on the Rivers State defection saga has left many Nigerians bewildered.

Rather than providing clarity on the contentious issue, the court's verdict has only added to the confusion.

As the highest court in the land, it is imperative that the Supreme Court provides a definitive interpretation of the law on defection.

The issue of defection has been a perennial problem in Nigerian politics.

Lawmakers and politicians have exploited the ambiguity surrounding defection to switch parties at will, often without regard for the electoral mandates that brought them to office.

This has led to widespread disenchantment among voters, who feel betrayed by the very politicians they elected to represent them.

The 1999 Constitution is clear on the issue of defection. Section 68(1)(g) states that a lawmaker's seat shall become vacant if they defect to another party except in cases where the party they originally belonged to has merged with another party or has been dissolved or divided.

However, the Supreme Court's recent decision has raised more questions than answers, leaving many to wonder what constitutes defection and under what circumstances it is permissible.

It is imperative that the Supreme Court takes into consideration the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

Nigerians are eagerly awaiting this momentous time, hoping that it will bring an end to the controversy surrounding defection and provide a clear direction for the country's political leaders.

As a professor of economics, Governor Soludo understands the importance of price regulation in maintaining economic stability and protecting consumers.

Anambra APC Primary: Billionaires At War. Who will Battle Soludo?

The stage is set for a thrilling contest in Anambra State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared seven billionaire governorship aspirants to contest the party's primary election.

The aspirants, who have been issued certificates of clearance, are Paul Chukwuma, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Chukwuma Umeoji, Valentine Ozigbo, Johnbosco Onunkwo, and Edozie Madu.

The primary election, scheduled to hold on April 5, 2025, promises to be a battle royale, with each aspirant bringing their unique strengths and weaknesses to the table.

Notably, Valentine Ozigbo, the newest entrant to the party from the Labour Party, has been granted a waiver by the party to contest the primary election.

This development comes despite advice for a possible consensus candidate.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced the clearance of the aspirants in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

The APC has also directed all members, including new and old members, in Anambra State to revalidate their membership ahead of the scheduled primary election.

This move is seen as an effort to ensure that only genuine party members participate in the election.

As the primary election approaches, APC members in Anambra State are eagerly watching to see who will emerge victorious and go on to represent the party in the governorship election, facing off against incumbent Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, a renowned entrepreneur, is expected to leverage his vast network and experience to woo delegates.

Igwe Okekeuche Leads Enugwu-Agidi to Celebrate 2025 Opoto Cultural Festival

It was a celebration galore like no other, Saturday 8 March as the people of Enugwu-Agidi Community in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, marked the 2025 Opoto Cultural Festival.

Opoto is a 4-Day annual festival of general thanksgiving for a successful harvest in Enugwu-Agidi.

According to the Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Umunri Ancient kingdom, who led in the celebration, Igwe Michael Chidozie Okekeuche, the festival also ushers in a new farming season in the community.

The first-class monarch said the festival, which usually brings sons and daughters of Enugwu-Agidi in diaspora home, was fetish-free and observed by both the Christians and the non-Christians of the community.

While performing the kola-nut breaking ritual in his palace, the Enugwu-Agidi Monarch expressed appreciation to God for the success of the past farming season, and further asked him to bless the land of the kingdom.

The Monarch, who noted that a bumper harvest went beyond crops, said by the grace of God, Enugwu-Agidi had grown into a multi-dimensional society in terms of occupation, having successful men and women in different types of trade, including mechanized agriculture.

Igwe Okekeuche prayed for more divine blessings, guidance, protection, favour, success, mercies, among others, upon his subjects working in different fields of human endeavour, both at home and abroad, amid rousing cheers from the massive crowd, comprising the creme de la creme of Enugwu Agidi society, including the youth who converged on the palace with different kinds of masquerades to pay the monarch Opoto Festival homage.

In his remarks, the President General of the community, Hon David Chukwuebuka Onourah, described the 2025 Opoto as the best in the history, and prayed for lasting peace in the community, even as he wished those that came home from their different places for the festival, journey mercies as they returned.

In a chat with the press, a stakeholder in the community, Ozo John Onuorah, described Opoto Festival as a unique celebration and period of homecoming which offered an opportunity to suitors to find brides.

Also speaking with the press, the Secretary to Igwe Okekeuche and Coordinator of the 2025 Opoto Festival at Igwe's palace, Ichie Ifeanyi Ndulue, added that Opoto Festival was a time Enugwu-Agidi Community acknowledged God for His mercies and kindness.

Ichie Ndulue highlighted the significance of this year's Enugwu-Agidi Opoto Festival, which he described as very remarkable and historic.

According to him, all along, there were issues that made the entire town not to agree to come together.

'But today, the entire town came together in an atmosphere of love to celebrate the phenomenal top-notch cultural festival with His Royal Highest, Igwe Michael Chidozie Okekeuche, Okpalariam III of Enugwu-Agidi,' Ndulue said.

He described the Monarch as a seasoned diplomat, whom, he said, was working out modalities to bring the entire town together, knowing that a culture of a people defined them.

He appealed to the people of Enugwu-Agidi to join hands with the Traditional Ruler to protect and project their cultural heritage, especially Opoto celebration, which he described as an epicentre of all festivals in the community.

Different ogene cultural dances, acrobatic displays by different masquerades in the community, among others, added glamour to the Opoto celebration at Igwe Okekeuche's Palace.

Present at the event were the President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Hon. Chukwuebuka Onuorah; the Chairman of Enugwu-Agidi Stakeholders Forum and Chairman of Ezumezu Umunri Global; Prince Dr. Emeka Egwuekwe; members of the cabinet; Nze na Ozo Enugwu-Agidi; the Elder's Council; the Ugonabo Age Grade; all village Chairmen; and Umu Ada Enugwu-Agidi.

The event was marked by sumptuous meals, particularly, lumps of yam and the avulu sauce, usually made at the epic event.

As Governor Chukwuma Soludo marks his third year in office, Anambra State residents are left wondering if his administration has truly delivered on its promises.

While Soludo's supporters tout his achievements, critics argue that his record is marred by unfulfilled expectations and rising concerns.

On the one hand, Soludo's infrastructure drive has been impressive. Over 500 kilometers of new roads are being built, including the flagship Amawbia/Nise/Agulu/Nanka/Uga dualisation project.

This bold initiative has the potential to unlock economic growth and improve living standards.

However, the governor's administration has been woefully inadequate in addressing the state's pressing security concerns until recently.

The notorious Ndi Aka Odo, operating under the Special Anambra Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), have instilled fear in residents due to their brutal actions.

The agency, initially established to combat crime like touting, has ironically become a source of terror for the very people it is meant to protect.

The governor's approach to governance has been criticized for being overly focused on grand projects while neglecting the mundane but essential needs of ordinary citizens.

For instance, the proposed construction of a 5-star hotel, when Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu is a competent alternative, is a luxury the state can ill afford when basic amenities like healthcare and education are still in short supply.

The high taxation imposed on residents and businesses is another major concern.

With the state's economy still reeling from the effects of the sit-at-home order, the last thing citizens need is another burden on their already strained finances.

Despite these challenges, there are glimmers of hope.

The construction of Solution FunCity and the New Government House and Governor's Lodge are flagship legacy projects that showcase Soludo's vision and commitment to development.

The initiatives of Agunechemba and Udo Ga-achi also offer hope in the state's quest for security and stability.

As Soludo marks his third year in office, he must take a long, hard look at his administration's record and ask himself: what more can he do to deliver on his promises? Is he truly on the right path to achieving his promised Dubai-Taiwan vision for Ndi Anambra?

The answer lies not in lofty rhetoric but in the simple, everyday actions that demonstrate a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.

To truly deliver on his promises, Soludo must listen to the concerns of his critics and work tirelessly to address the pressing challenges facing Anambra State.

Only then can he truly claim to have delivered on his promises and cement his legacy as a professor governor.

Leaders of late Ifeanyi Ubah Nation Media and Political Family, led by Hon. Kamen Chuks, were left speechless during their second-day inspection tour of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's projects in Anambra State.


. The highlight of the day was an unexpected encounter with Governor Soludo himself at the site of the new Government House, a sprawling project over 80% complete and seen as a mini-city in the making.

Nollywood icon Uwaezuoke, a prominent member of the delegation, praised Soludo, saying, "Mr. Governor, I was wrong about you all this while. You are, without doubt, the best governor Anambra has ever had."

His humorous quip, "If you do all these things in Anambra State, which one will subsequent governors do?" triggered an eruption of laughter, reflecting the delegation's astonishment at the scale of Soludo's projects.

Kamen Chuks., a key political figure, doubled down on his support for the governor, describing him as "unbeatable in capacity and exploit."

Kamen Chuks predicted a landslide victory for Soludo in his anticipated second-term bid, hinting at a potential alliance between his Ubah Political Family and the "Solution Government."

Echoing the mantra of their late founder, "Gosimkamfunanya" (recognizing good deeds), he stated, "We came to see for ourselves, and we are convinced. Soludo is doing awesome."

Addressing the delegation, Soludo outlined key projects nearing completion under his watch.

He pointed to the twin torchlight symbol towers in Ekwulobia and Awka, dual carriageways on high-traffic roads, and a network of flyovers and connecting roads aimed at decongesting urban centres like Aroma while linking hinterlands to cities.

He also emphasized his administration's efforts to sanitize the system of get-rich-quick syndrome and its enablers, including scam witch doctors and pastors.

The new Government House, he emphasized, symbolizes his vision to transform Anambra into a "Dubai-Taiwan" hub of modernity and efficiency.

However, Soludo didn't shy away from addressing challenges, particularly in Ihiala, where he said government presence remains limited due to locals' reluctance to cooperate in flushing out kidnappers from their forests.

"Some are aiding and abetting these criminals," he lamented, urging Ihiala residents to partner with the government.

"We want to rescue you and bring you into the Solution Movement to Dubai-Taiwan status."

The inspection tour, now in its second day, has bolstered Governor Soludo's reputation as a results-driven leader.

With endorsements from figures like Kamen Chuks and Uwaezuoke, and tangible evidence of his administration's impact, Soludo's "Solution Movement" appears to be gaining unstoppable momentum.

Ifeanyi Ubah's Loyalists Give Thumbs Up to Soludo After Touring Projects

Supporters of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District, have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State after touring his projects.

The supporters, under the umbrella of Ubahnation Media Centre and Structure Leaders of Ifeanyi Ubah's Political Family, were led by Kamen Chuks.

The National Coordinator of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe served as the government's tour guide on the occasion.

The tour, which was at the invitation of the Anambra State Government, aligns with the group's mantra #Gosimkamfunanya ("Show us, let's see").

The team visited the Solution FunCity in Awka and the New Anambra Government House and Governor's Lodge on the Alex Ekwueme Square axis.

According to Engr. Chijioke Onyeanusi, supervising contractor from the Ministry of Works, the Solution FunCity project, which began in September 2023, is 98% complete and will be finished by the end of the month.

Onyeanusi highlighted the project's features, including a water park, attraction sites, roller coaster, family and indoor facilities, three cinemas, a country club, and eight swimming pools.

Nollywood actors and actresses, led by Ngozi Ezeonu, praised Governor Soludo for the project, describing it as "superb."

Ifeanyi Ubah's supporters also expressed satisfaction with the projects and encouraged Soludo to sustain his efforts.

At the New Government House and Governor's Lodge Complex, Arc. Kelechi Mbanugo, supervising contractor, noted that the complex, occupying 23 hectares of land, is 88-90% complete.

The complex features a government house, lodge, healthy garden, security, presidential lodge, and rooms for aides.

Kamen Chuks commended Governor Soludo for his projects, stating that they align with the group's mantra and philosophy.

He emphasized that governance is not about political parties but about the Anambra spirit, adding that Soludo has achieved great things within three years without borrowing.

EDITORIAL: Legislators Should Not Assume the Power to Hire and Fire Their Peers

The recent controversy between Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio highlights a deeper issue that threatens the very foundations of our democracy.

When lawmakers are granted the authority to hire and fire their colleagues, it undermines the democratic principles of representation, accountability, and the separation of powers.

This power dynamic can stifle the progress of the people they represent, as legislators become more loyal to their colleagues than to their constituents.

At the heart of this issue lies the fundamental question of who employs legislators? The answer is clear: it is the people, through the electoral process, who elect their representatives to serve their interests.

This relationship is rooted in the concept of representation, where legislators are entrusted to act on behalf of their constituents in a social contract.

However, when legislators assume the power to hire and fire their peers, they disrupt this delicate balance of power and undermine the democratic principles that underpin our system of government.

The dangers of unchecked legislative power are evident in the potential for abuses of authority, favoritism, and corruption.

This undermines democratic ideals, including free speech, open debate, and the protection of minority rights.

When legislators have the power to hire and fire their peers, they can silence dissenting voices, stifle debate, and create a culture of fear and obedience.

In a diverse society like ours, where different groups and interests coexist, the mistreatment or marginalization of elected representatives by their colleagues can have a profound impact on the communities they serve.

Granting legislators the power to hire and fire their colleagues is a recipe for disaster.

The people must remain the ultimate authority in determining who represents them.

Legislators cannot assume the power to hire and fire their peers elected by other constituents or unilaterally shorten or extend their colleagues' tenure.

Only the people have the constitutional right to make such decisions, and any internal rules or orders do not supersede the people's mandates or constitution.

The democratic principles of representation, accountability, and the separation of powers must be upheld.

The people must remain vigilant and ensure that their elected representatives are accountable to them, and not to their
legislative peers.

General Overseer Challenges Anambra Native Doctor Over Claim That Jesus Has No Powers

Prominent Pentecostal pastor and General Overseer of Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Rev. Dr. Jerry Nwachukwu, has challenged one Mathias Ezeaku, a native doctor, to supremacy contest in Anambra state.

Dr. Nwachukwu said he was upset that Ezeaku, a native doctor, took to the social media to say that Jesus Christ has no power to "heal the sick, make the lame walk or make the barren to conceive, among other claims".

In his message during a Sunday Service in his church, at No.19 Ezendu Street, off Mercedes Avenue, Nkpor-Agu, Nwachukwu berated the native doctor, while challenging him to choose a venue where he (Nwachukwu) will demonstrate to him that there is a supreme God above all other gods that can perform miracles.

He said: "Right from the Old Testament, the scripture has shown and demonstrated the power of the Almighty God above all other gods.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ demonstrated in many episodes that what could be done and achieved in His name is limitless.

"Therefore, I challenge Mathias Ezeaku, who has claimed in several fora, including on the social media, that no pastor can heal, unbound or restore in the name of Jesus Christ, to choose a venue and date, so that it will be demonstrated to him that all powers belong to God, and His son, Jesus Christ.


"If Mathias Ezeaku has no venue, I challenge him to come to United Primary School field, Nkpor-Agu, between March 23 and March 30, 2025. Let's organize a crusade there.

I want Mathias Ezeaku with all the native doctors he knows, to come over there with hundreds of blind people, the lame, the cripple, and people possessed by unclean spirit and witness how they will be restored in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth".

Continuing Dr. Nwachukwu said: "In the New Testament, Jesus demonstrated his supernatural powers through healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, controlling nature (like calming storms), and miraculously feeding large crowds; these acts are documented across all four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).

"Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same thing He did in the scriptures, He still do them today, and will not stop doing same.

"In 2nd Chronicles 20:6, the Bible says 'God rules over all the kingdoms of the nations. In His hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand Him".

He said Mathias Ezeaku would certainly witness this power of God, and His son, Jesus Christ if he honoured this challenge, and come to this crusade.

" He will encounter the experience of Paul when he was going to Damascus to persecute Christians . In that crusade, he shall renounce peganism and accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal saviour."

Nimo Youths Hold Solidarity Protest for Monarch

Hundreds of Youths of Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, recently held a peaceful rally in solidarity with their Traditional Ruler, the Owelle of Nimo, Igwe Maxi Ike Oliobi.

It will be recalled that Igwe Oliobi was verbally and physically attacked by one young man who was the Vice President of Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, since deposed by the court.

The sacked VP disrupted the Owelle of Nimo and his Cabinet as they arrived to pay a condolence visit to a member of the royal Cabinet, Chief Bobby Moore, SAN, who recently lost his wife.

But during their protest, the Nimo Youths told those insulting and challenging the traditional ruler to respect the judgement of a Neni High Court which had nullified their election and which the town's lawyers had explained in their Communique.

The protesters said the reason for their peaceful rally was to show that they loved their Igwe, who unfortunately, had been attacked by some persons who out of jealousy or personal hatred wanted to disrupt his development strides.

Pledging their loyalty to the Nimo traditional institution, they vowed to always respect their monarch and his Cabinet as they respected their own parents.

One of the leaders, Mr UgoTech Edozie, said the behavior of the persons who disrupted the traditional ruler's condolence visit did not in any way represent the Nimo youth, whom, he said, loved their monarch and would always respect him.

He therefore called on all well meaning Nimo Youths and others alike to always be respectful and law abiding.

Nimo has been embroiled in crisis for some time following the refusal of some persons to obey the judgement of a court which nullified their election into the town union executive.

The Ara’s DPI-Driven Bliss

Growing up in the ancient town, Ara, in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State, banking was an exclusive privilege reserved for the relatively affluent. Only a handful of individuals, whether residing in the rural community or living in the cities, had access to financial services.

I vividly recall the pride my hometown felt in having a single branch of the now-defunct Savannah Bank - the only banking institution in the entire LGA at the time. It was an era where every transaction, no matter how minor, had to be conducted within the banking hall. Customers endured long queues, sometimes waiting for hours to deposit or withdraw money. The only exceptions to this ordeal were granted to those with personal connections to bank staff, the elderly, or the sick.

Sadly, the few, who had bank accounts were often viewed as more superior or wealthier, reinforcing a class divide that was more rooted in ignorance and illiteracy than actual financial disparity. Many unbanked individuals avoided formal banking not due to a lack of funds, but because of limited financial literacy and accessibility.

Just as Savannah Bank was striving to expand its customer base in Ara and its environs, disaster struck. The bank shut down operations nationwide, devastating my hometown’s only connection to the formal banking system. Customers including my beloved father lost their hard-earned savings, a reflection of Nigeria’s fragile and poorly regulated banking system at the time.

This collapse rendered many residents unbanked once more, with only a few privileged individuals managing to secure accounts with other financial institutions. However, accessing their funds became a daunting challenge, as they had to travel to neighboring cities such as Ejigbo, Ede, and Osogbo for even the most basic banking transactions.

Even when banks introduced ATMs, Ara was left out. The number of banked individuals in the community was too low to justify the deployment of ATM services. This forced residents to continue making inconvenient journeys to access financial services, sustaining a cycle of exclusion and hardship.

The real breakthrough came with technological advancements in the banking sector, driving financial inclusion and expanding access to formal financial services across Nigeria. The introduction of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals revolutionized banking in Ara. Today, POS terminals are scattered across various parts of the town, offering seamless access to financial transactions.

While residents were still celebrating the convenience brought by POS services, the rise of mobile banking apps further transformed the landscape. These apps, provided by commercial banks and fintech companies, have enabled residents many of whom were previously unbanked to engage in digital transactions with unprecedented ease.

Now, from the palace of the Alara of Ara to compounds such as Bara, Iyalode, Otun, Sobaloju, and Aare among others, banking transactions occur with remarkable efficiency. The community has embraced financial technology, enjoying the ease and convenience once reserved for urban dwellers.

Yet, most people benefiting from these advancements are unaware of the underlying platform enabling this transformation – the secret is Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). DPI is a set of foundational digital systems that enable seamless online interactions, transactions, and services across various sectors.
It consists of three major components - digital identity, payment systems, and data exchange. Digital identity is about a unique, verifiable identity system that allows individuals to authenticate themselves securely. In Nigeria, such include the National ID systems and BVN in banking. Payment systems talk about fast, interoperable, and secure digital payment platforms that facilitate financial transactions namely - mobile banking, POS etc. On its part, data exchange is a framework that enables secure and efficient sharing of data between institutions, businesses, and individuals. These include open banking, digital health records among others.

The banking evolution in Ara is a clear example of how DPI has reshaped financial access, streamlining payment systems and making banking services more accessible to all. Fintech companies, alongside commercial banks, have further revolutionized digital banking, making transactions seamless and effortless.

The story of Ara mirrors the reality of many rural communities across Nigeria, where DPI is gradually bridging financial gaps. However, challenges persist. Poor network connectivity remains a significant hurdle, exacerbated by the vandalization of critical telecommunications infrastructure. Additionally, educational disadvantages hinder many Nigerians from fully leveraging digital banking services. Coordinating the payment system across banks also presents challenges, though significant progress has been made in this regard.

Despite these obstacles, DPI represents the future - a transformative force that anyone passionate about progress must embrace. As Nigeria moves further into an increasingly digitized world, DPI is the foundation upon which inclusive, efficient, and resilient financial systems will be built.

The Doctrine of Last Seen oversimplifies the complexities of human behaviour and ignores the possibility of mere coincidence.

It is plausible that an individual was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, without any involvement in BigBen's disappearance.

This doctrine's failure to account for such nuances undermines its reliability and fairness.

In the context of BigBen's case, the application of the Doctrine of Last Seen is particularly problematic.

With the case still ongoing, it is premature to point fingers at anyone. The authorities must prioritize gathering concrete evidence, rather than relying on presumptive principles.

This approach will not only ensure that justice is served but also prevent potential miscarriages of justice.

It is essential to remember that suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

The mere allegations against them should not be used to tarnish their reputations or compromise their rights.

The principles of justice demand that we uphold the presumption of innocence and ensure that the accused receive a fair trial.

As the ancient legal maxim reminds us, "It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer."

This timeless principle underscores the importance of ensuring that justice is served while safeguarding the rights of the accused.

Let us uphold this fundamental principle and demand that the investigation into BigBen's kidnapping be conducted with the utmost care, diligence, and commitment to justice.
