Anambra Guber Poll: Ifeanyi Ubah's Political family endorses Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) counts down for its primary for the November 2025 Anambra State Governorship election, the political family of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has declared support for Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu's governorship ambition.

Addressing the principal officers of Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah's campaign team, the Director General, Hon. Vin. Onyeka, told them that they would continue the journey through Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.

He said Ukachukwu shared a lot in common with Senator Ubah, among them include that Uba stood for zoning like Ukachukwu.


"Senator Ifeanyi Uba stood for zoning and believed in zoning and agreed to sign undertaking that he was going to do only four years which is the remaining number of years for Anambra South Senatorial zone so that Anambra Central would have its turn as arranged in the existing zoning formula" said Hon. Onyeka.


He affirmed that Prince Ukachukwu who is also from Anambra South Senatorial zone was committed to the same four years.

Thanking the principal officers for standing firm with Dr. Ubah when he was alive, the DG urged them: "Let's continue the Ifeanyi Ubah's journey through Prince Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu".

He assured that with Prince Ukachukwu, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's spirit would continue to find comfort and lasting peace.

Onyeka said : "lightening does not struck twice but this time it has because although they have lost Ubah" who he described as "a colossus,a maverick political figure, there is a replica of him who is everything Ifeanyi Ubah in the person of Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu. It doesn't happen so often but here we are stark with the reality of another Ifeanyi Ubah before us".


Onyeka said the love Ukachukwu showed to Ubah was the reason that brought them together with other groups under one family, saying that Ukachukwu has simply: "inherited Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's political family, including Ikemba Front which Ubah resuscitated and gave life under the leadership of Sir Arinzechuchukwu Awogu".

He noted that Ukachukwu threw his weight behind Senator Ubah when he visited him to solicit for his support for his governorship ambition, when he stated that the fact that he (Ubah) came to him to consult him first, he dropped his own governorship ambition and supported Ubah.

Ukachukwu, he said, had pledged not only only to deliver Nnewi South Local Government Area for Ubah but to do that without collecting a dime from him, asked Ubah to focus on the remaining 20 Local Government Areas in the State.

Shoddy Investigation: Obi of Onitsha Asks IGP to Take Over Slain Lawmaker's Case

The Onitsha indigenous community is outraged over the Anambra State Command's handling of Hon. Justice Azuka's murder investigation, demanding transparency, accountability, and swift justice.

Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, and his decaying body was found on February 6, 2025.

The Razor News recently reported that seven out of nine suspects linked to the kidnapping and murder allegedly died from tetanus gunshots while in police custody.

Two other suspects escaped while accompanying police to arrest an accomplice.

At an emergency town hall meeting, the Onitsha community called on Inspector General of Police Dr. Kayode Egbetokun to take over the investigation from the State Command.

The meeting, attended by hundreds of indigenes, was presided over by His Majesty Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha.

The community's outrage stems from conflicting statements issued by the State Government and Police regarding the withdrawal of N100 million from Azuka's bank account and the escape of two suspects from police custody.

Chief Osita Anionwu, Ike Akatakwuani of Onitsha, expressed the community's disappointment and sadness, saying, "We demand justice for Hon. Azuka and his family, and we will not rest until those responsible are brought to book."

The community is also urging the Government of Anambra State to restore confidence in its security strategy and ensure justice is served speedily.

APC Primaries: Ikemba Front Endorses Ayodele's prophecies on Ukachukwu

The Ikemba Front, an All Progressives Congress (APC) support group in Anambra State, has aligned itself with the prophecies of Primate Elijah Ayodele that a businessman, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, would pick the governorship ticket of the party in April 5, 2025.
The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church had said during his prophecies in Ejigbo, headquarters of the church recently that the former House of Rep. remember would clinch the ticket of APC for the governorship of the State.
The prophet made it clear that nothing would stop the Osumenyi born politician from clinching the APC ticket if only the Primary election was free and fair.
Ikemba Front in its reaction affirmed that there is: "a perfect alignment between the physical, the metaphysical and the supernatural" to the coming of Prince Ukachukwu popularly known as Ikukuoma as the next governor of Anambra State.
The group in its reaction endorsed by their National Coordinator, Sir Arinzechukwu Awogu, expressed its confidence in Prince Ukachukwu clinching the APC ticket for the Anambra State 2025 governorship election as it believes very strongly that APC knows who among the aspirants that can win election for the party in Anambra State if given the governorship ticket of the party.
Consequently, the group sent message to its Wards, Local Government Areas and Zonal meetings held in various locations across the state Teusday that Prince Dr. Ukachukwu's governorship "quest is a divine arrangement that enjoys the acceptance of all and in perfect alignment with the physical, the metaphysical and the supernatural".
He said all are in agreement that the entry into the race for the governorship by Prince Dr. Ukachukwu after the unfortunate loss of Sen. Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi (CON) was an idea whose time had come.
Awogu said that there are prerequisites to contemplating running and winning governorship election in Anambra State for any serious contender of which he said Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu has attained.
Sir Awogu, a former Ogbaru Local Government Area Chairman, said that Dr. Ukachukwu has firm grip on Anambra South zone and enjoys great degree of the sympathy and support of the people of Anambra North zone following the abysmal rating of Governor Soludo in Anambra North zone.
He also said Prince Ukachukwu has overwhelming presence in all the 326 wards through Ikemba Front and affiliate political support structures.
Sir Awogu alluded to the fact that more than half of the materials needed to prosecute the 2025 governorship election of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu under the umbrella of APC were already assembled and on ground, stressing : "the ancillaries are up and running and no political party that is in opposition and desirous of unseating the incumbent and winning the election can ignore aspirant with such capacity and capability as Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu".
"Primate Ayodele should be told that the prerequisites for seeking and securing a political party's nomination and running for the governorship election and winning it have been established and verifiably so by Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu who also is a man favoured by Grace and no political party will be blindfolded not to give its ticket to a candidate that has the resume that can win election for it" he said.
He assured that Ukachukwu who is more interested in building bridges across the stakeholders in Anambra State APC as one formidable and united family will get the APC ticket on merit and will go ahead and win the Anambra State governorship election for the party.
Sir Awogu maintained that there is a huge vacancy in Agu- Awka Government House to be filled by Prince Dr. Ukachukwu.
He said: "There is a growing call for Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu to step up to the plate to help fix Anambra that is fast adrift. A porous vacancy does exist in Agu-Awka Government House awaiting Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu's entry."

The motor park tout Senator Tony Nwoye senseless ranting at Ogbo ogwu market and his false hope to plumbing material sellers.*

I have said it before that the motor park tout Senator Tony Nwoye does not know how to talk. When he opens his mouth to talk, he talks recklessly without giving what he is saying deep thoughts.

He recently paid a grandstanding visit to Ogbo ogwu and over stepped his boundary while speaking to traders.

What I discovered is that the motor park tout Senator Tony Nwoye does not know his limitations.

I will not dwell on the false hope he gave the Ogbo ogwu traders that NAFDAC closed their market because of the activities of fake drug dealers but will focus on what he told plumbing material sellers.

I will quote what he told the plumbing material sellers verbatim without adding anything to it for my readers to judge by themselves. Below is what he said

"Onye obuna sina aga achu ndi plumbing wey chuga unu na Umunya, onwero onye ga achupu unu na ebea, ebea ka unu ga ano meaning anybody that said that they will chase plumbing material sellers to Umunya cannot do that and that they will continue staying at their temporal site".

When I watched that video , I concluded that as a motor park tout, Tony Nwoye was high on a drug substance before embarking on that grandstanding visit to Ogbo ogwu in company of Peter Obi.

His aim for making the reckless statement is to incite plumbing material traders against Anambra State government that is the constituted authority saddled with the responsibility of developing the nook and crannies of our State.

Tony Nwoye also portrayed himself as enemy of progress to the good people of Umunya, Nteje and Oyi at large by inciting traders that built their market permanent site not to obey government directive of moving to that permanent site.

Funny enough, Peter Obi that embarked on the grandstanding visit to Ogbo Ogwu market with Tony Nwoye was the person that moved building material sellers to their current permanent site at Ogbunike, but as a cunny man, he failed to call Tony Nwoye to order when he started inciting the plumbing material traders not to move to their permanent site.

Unknown to the plumbing material sellers, Tony Nwoye hate them with passion by telling them not to move to their Umunya permanent site to remain street traders.

As ìt stands today, they are street traders and must move to their Umunya permanent site.

The fact remains that the motor park tout Senator Tony Nwoye cannot stop plumbing material sellers from moving to their permanent site.

Tony Nwoye is truly a disgrace to Anambra north people.

For me, he is an accidental Senator and a mistake Anambra north electorates must correct in 2027.

I pity any plumbing material trader that will live on Tony Nwoye false hope because the hope of that trader will be dashed and the person will end up in regret.

The movement of Rod and plumbing material sellers to Umunya will attract unprecedented development to Umunya, Nkwelle, Nteje and Awkuzu communities.

This is what the motor park tout Senator Tony Nwoye is fighting to stop because he is an enemy of progress.

Our people have taken note and will use their vote to reply him in 2027.

What is good is good and to be honest, the movement of Rod and plumbing material sellers to their Umunya permanent site is in their own best interest.

The motor park tout Senator Tony Nwoye should desist from inciting them to resist what is in their own interest.

As the November 8 Anambra governorship election approaches, the trend of cross-carpeting has become increasingly fashionable, with politicians abandoning their old political parties and ideologies for new ones for the sake of power.

This phenomenon is not unique to Anambra State, but it has assumed a particularly egregious dimension in the state.

The frequency and brazenness of these defections have undermined the very foundations of our democracy, eroding trust and confidence in the political process.

At the heart of this issue is the question of political ideology and principle.

In advanced democracies, politicians are often wedded to specific ideologies and political parties, which guide their actions and decisions.

However, in Nigeria, the pursuit of power and self-interest has become the dominant ideology, with politicians willing to abandon their parties and principles at the drop of a hat.

The consequences of this trend are far-reaching and devastating. It creates instability in the polity, undermines the confidence of the electorate, and erodes the credibility of democratic institutions.

It also perpetuates the culture of opportunism, where politicians prioritize their personal interests over the welfare of the people.

This trend has significant implications for the future of democracy.

If politicians are willing to abandon their parties and principles for the sake of power, what does this say about their commitment to the democratic process? What does this say about their willingness to serve the people rather than their own self-interest?

As Ndi Anambra prepare to go to the polls on November 8, it is essential they shine their eyes and see through the antics of these opportunistic politicians.

They must look for commitment to principle and integrity; they must reject the politics of defection and embrace a new era of principled leadership.

This requires a fundamental shift in approach to politics, one that prioritizes ideology and principle over self-interest and opportunism.

It requires a new generation of politicians who are committed to serving the people, rather than perpetuating the old order that serves only self-interest.

The electorate must shine their eyes and see through the deceit and opportunism of politicians who are more interested in pursuing power than principles.

Let political parties make a statement in their upcoming primaries, scheduled for March and April, by voting for candidates who uphold their principles and ideologies, rather than political butterflies who flit from party to party, seeking the sweetest nectar to exploit.

EDITORIAL: Soludo, What Happened to Our Applications for Appointment, Even Exams?

As Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration approaches its third year, the people of Anambra State are growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress on one of his key campaign promises: transparency in governance.

Specifically, the fate of scores of applications submitted by individuals eager to serve in his government remains shrouded in mystery.

In 2022, Governor Soludo launched an online platform, promising a transparent and competitive process for selecting appointees.

He assured applicants that they would undergo qualifying examinations, and those who excelled would be selected for various positions.

However, despite the fanfare surrounding the launch, it appears that only a select few with ties to the governor's inner circle have been given opportunities to serve.

The Transition Committee, chaired by the esteemed Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, had announced the opening of a database for employment, where individuals could express their interest in volunteering or seeking a political appointment or career in paid public service positions.

Governor Soludo had committed to giving everyone with requisite competencies, capabilities, and relevant valuable contributions to make toward the good governance of Anambra State an opportunity to do so.

However, a closer examination of the governor's appointments reveals a disturbing pattern of nepotism and favoritism.

Many of the appointees have ties to the governor's days at the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Peoples Democratic Party.

This raises serious questions about the integrity of the selection process and the governor's commitment to transparency.

The people of Anambra State are beginning to wonder if the promise of transparency and competitiveness was just a ruse to gain power.

We remind Governor Soludo of his oath to use his office for the good of all, not just a select few.

The people of Anambra State expect fairness, equity, and transparency in governance.

We urge Governor Soludo to take immediate action to address this issue.

He should revisit the applications submitted through the online platform and ensure that the selection process is fair, transparent, and based on merit.

He should provide a clear explanation for the delay in processing the applications and the criteria used for selecting appointees.

Furthermore, he should take steps to prevent nepotism and favoritism in further appointment process, ensuring that the best candidates are selected regardless of their connections.

The people of Anambra State are waiting for Governor Soludo's response and action on this.

We expect him to demonstrate his commitment to transparency and good governance by addressing this issue promptly and fairly.

Oshiri Ebonyi Boils : US-Based Ikechukwu Nkumeh Threatens Journalist, Jails Others

An Anambra based journalist and correspondent of THISDAY Newspaper in Anambra State, Mr David-Chyddy Eleke has raised the alarm over threat to his life by an Ebonyi State-born US citizen, Mr Ikechukwu Nkumeh.

Eleke also called on the commissioner of police in Ebonyi State, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya to restrain operatives of anti-kidnapping squad and SWAT from lending themselves as agents of suppression and abuse of human rights in the hands of Mr Nkumeh and his brother, Friday Nkumeh, with whom they have been tormenting the journalist and other members of his family for their refusal to surrender a portion of their family land to them.

The journalist in a press statement he signed and made available to his colleagues in Ebonyi State stated that the Nkumehs have since early December 2024 been using operatives of anti-kidnapping squad and SWAT in Abakiliki to hound, arrest and illegally detain members of his family.

He said: "I hail from Oshiri in Ebonyi State, Mr Ikechukwu and his brother Friday are our neighbours in my village. Both claim to be US citizens, but the biggest torment my family has received is ever knowing them.

"Since their return from the US last year, they have been grabbing lands belonging to their neighbours in the village. They have become terror to everyone around, and I can tell you that many young people from my kindred no longer sleep in their homes because the Nkumehs have been using police to kidnap them in the dead of the night. This has been going on since after he made a petition to the anti-kidnapping squad, claiming that they wanted to kidnap him."

The journalist continued that about three of his relatives are currently in prison and police detention facility and that he is still making many more petitions, implicating everyone in his family and sponsoring the police to pick them up.

"I now seem to be his next target, simply because I told him pointedly that the land on which he built a structure was ours.

"He has made a fresh petition against me, and I'm not sure what the allegations are, but the police have been calling to invite me, and I know that the plot is to lure me to Abakiliki so they can arrest and illegally detain me.

"In saner places, the Nkumehs would have been a blessing to us as our neighbours, but they have turned themselves into a thorn in our flesh

"They have been spending heavily on the police, arresting and slamming our brothers with frivolous charges, just so they remand them in prison.

"Will Ikechukwu or Friday Nkumeh do this in the US where human rights is copiously observed? They just came back and have seen how the power of money can help them subjugate us.

"We are calling on the Commissioner of police in Ebonyi, who we know is a refined officer to kindly use her good office to end this human rights violation. We have already filed a suit in a court of competent jurisdiction, so that the ownership of the piece of land in question can be determined. He should desist from using the police to arrest us, he should also release about three of our brothers who are still in detention. We are peace loving people, else we would have brought down the structure on our land, without involving the court," the journalist said.

Ebube Muonso Needs Psychiatric Attention - Obigwe

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chinedu Obigwe, has called for Catholic Priest, Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Ebube Muonso, to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Obigwe's statement follows recent allegations made by Ebube Muonso that the late Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was killed because of his membership in the Labour Party and not the ruling APGA in Anambra State.

Obigwe described Ebube Muonso's statements as "reckless and unguarded," adding that the priest has turned himself into a "disgrace to Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese and the Catholic Church at large."

The APGA chieftain further stated that Ebube Muonso's allegations were baseless and aimed at politicizing the death of the late Justice Azuka.

He also noted that the Anambra State government had played a crucial role in the arrest of the suspects involved in Azuka's killing.

Obigwe called on Ebube Muonso to resign as a priest, stating that his actions were unbecoming of a man of God.


Obigwe said," I will say it boldly without minding whose ox is gored that Fr. Emmanuel Obimma most recent reckless and unguarded utterances portrayed him as someone that is in dire need of psychiatric evaluation.

"Those that reacted to the above referred news report called for his arrest to enable him substantiate his claim.

"The undisputed truth is that Fr. Emmanuel Obimma is using his priesthood garment and the pulpit of God to play politics.

"He has turned himself into a disgrace to Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese and the Catholic church at large.

Being a Priest is not a guarantee to talk recklessly without control.
He made weighty allegations in his recent utterances and that is the reason many people are calling for his arrest.

Obigwe added," I watched and listened carefully to the trending video he made over Police claim that two suspects involved in Late Hon Azuka killing escaped.

"In that video, Fr. Emmanuel Obimma created the impression that the late Hon Azuka killing was politically motivated and that he was killed because he is a member of Labour Party and not APGA.

"Anybody that watched the video will realise that he is pointing accusing fingers for Late Hon Azuka killing on APGA members and Anambra State government.

"He further claimed in the video that the two escaped suspects bribed their way out of Police custody.Infact, he made many allegations that should not be swept under the carpet.

"Another thing I realised is that he is not even aware that SASA, an agency of Anambra State government played crucial role in the arrest of the suspects involved in Late Hon Azuka killing.

The last thing Governor Soludo will do is to cover up evil .He is too clean for such nonsense.

Ultimately, the pursuit of truth and reconciliation is a necessary step towards healing and nation-building.

By acknowledging past wrongs, setting the record straight, and taking concrete steps towards reform, Nigerians can create a more just, equitable, and peaceful society for all.

As Babaginda's confessions have shown, it is never too late to seek the truth and make amends.

By doing so, Nigerians can build a brighter future for themselves and generations to come.

Anambra Building Materials Traders Move to New Market, Endorse Soludo for 2nd Term

The chairman of Allied Building Materials Market, Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State have given clean bill of health to their newly constructed ultra-modern market which they parked into this January, 2025.


Speaking on behalf of the traders, the general chairman of the market comprising eight markets in Onitsha dealing in different building
materials, Mr. Ejike Ignatius,said they have come to stay in the market and there is no going back in spite of the opposition by some disgruntled traders of Atani Iron Rod Union.

Some traders from Atani Iron Rod Union had called on Governor Soludo to intervene in their matter alleging that Special Adviser on Market, Chief Evaristus Uba, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce Mr Chinedu Ike, the former chairman Chief Nnaemeka Onuzulike and the current Caretaker Committee of the Union, Evaristus Ejezie and others shut down their market at Atani, when the market at Nteje has not been completed.


But Sandwiched by chairmen of other markets, the general chairman dismissed their claim, saying that the market was ready and they had since January this parked in.


He said there was Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), among the markets when they were starting the construction that they would all move into the new market by the time of completion.

" We all agreed.No chairman told us there was disagreement within his union or association.So, we have moved in except those who did not pay or have not completed their payment.


The Atani Road Iron Dealers Union traders had also alleged that Onuzulike failed to take care of their interest by allocating plots to them and accounting for the money they paid.


But Ejike said : "It is futile to oppose the movement to the new market in Nteje. It is just mere envy. With the support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, we have moved to our new market in Nteje.We have started market in Nteje".


He said the shops were allocated to the traders on the basis of "first come, first serve", that anybody who paid must get a shop even the opposition.

He emphasised that there are provisions for everybody who paid for shops ,noting that it was not being allocated on plot by plot basis but by shops.

" That is our agreement with Nteje people to build shops for traders, not plots because we are not building residential houses".

The former chairman of Atani Iron Rod Union, Chief Nnaemeka Onuzulike, said the traders were asked to relocate to the new sites since November 2023,saying it was "Governor Soludo who asked us to move not me. It is the Government.


They have done everything to frustrate us including going to court but they failed".

Onuzulike assured that he would account for what they have done at the appropriate time when they finishes the project.

He regretted that the opposition was not ready for reconciliation, alleging that they had gone to six different reconciliation meetings but each time they would abandon it when it is not going their way.

" Their target is to jail me. And these people are not up to 30 in number. We provided shops for those who paid but they refused and preferred to abuse Government officials.

He said Chief Eugene Obi -Okoye, who signed a petition to Governor as the chairman of BoT was lying because their BoT chairman is Chief Simon Nsofor.

Chief Nsofor in his contribution said he was satisfied with the rate of progress in the market so far, saying that there is 95 percent response by the traders.

The current chairman of the Atani Road Iron Rod Union, Chief Evaristus Ejezie, said there is nothing that they have done that was not in accordance with the State Government directives.

"We were given August 31, 2024 to vacate our old sites. But the date has been shifted till January 2025. So, I am not chasing anybody. Government is chasing all of us and we have to comply.There are shops for everybody here" he said.

A stakeholder in the market, Chief Mark Ezepoe, said because of the support of the Governor to see the realization of the market ,they are endorsing him for the second term.

Others who earlier spoke equally endorsed Governor Soludo for Second term in office .

Activist Calls for Retirement of CP Obong Nnache Itam, Reshuffle of Soludo's Cabinet

Osita Obi, a human rights activist, has demanded the immediate retirement of Obong Nnache Itam, the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.

Obi made this call at a press conference in Awka on Friday, citing the escape of two alleged suspects in the kidnapping and killing of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Obi claimed that his investigation revealed the suspects escaped on February 8, two days before the new Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assumed duty.

He alleged that the escape was supervised by Itam, questioning why he did not brief the incoming CP on the matter before leaving.

"The escape of the killers of Anambra lawmaker was supervised by the former commissioner of police in Anambra, CP Obono Enaghe Itam," Obi said.

"It was a well-planned deal to give the suspects the opportunity to escape. He should be probed and retired immediately."

While commending Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his security initiatives, Obi called on the governor to investigate and remove corrupt government officials who may have been involved in dark deals.

He also enjoined the governor to dissolve his cabinet and reconstitute a new one that would help propagate his ideals and philosophies.

Additionally, Obi demanded the total overhaul of the police in Anambra State, citing concerns about compromise within the force.

He alleged that most police personnel in Anambra State are corrupt, engaging in regular extortion of the people of the state.

Anambra CP Vows to Re-arrest Fleeing Suspects in Justice Azuka's Murder

The Anambra State Police Command has vowed to re-arrest two fleeing suspects involved in the murder of Late Hon. Justice Azuka, a member representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, made this pledge during a press briefing at the Anambra State Police Headquarters, Awka, on February 21, 2025.

According to CP Orutugu, the two suspects, Ikemefuna Ossai from Delta State and Chinedu Okoli from Imo State, were part of a notorious gang involved in the murder of Justice Azuka.

CP Orutugu assured that the command is working tirelessly to stabilize the security situation in the state.


The CP said,"The purpose of the Press briefing is to set the records straight on the two fleeing suspects involved in the murder of the Late Hon Justice Azuka, a Member Representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly of Anambra State and highlight some of the breakthroughs of the Command within the period under review.

"Let me reiterate the fact that this regrettable incident happened two days before I assumed Office on 10th February 2025 as the Commissioner of Police Anambra State.

"Upon receipt of the information on 18th of February 2025, this informed my briefing to *Ndi Anambra* and *Nigerians* as the Command under my watch shall ensure residents stay informed as the Security Situation evolves in the State.

The CP added, "This sad development motivated me too the extra mile on a discreet investigation to gather the facts surrounding the incident.

"The cause of my findings shows that the incident happened on the 8th of February, 2025 in Obosi. The two (2) suspects, Ikemefuna Ossai from Delta State and Chinedu Okoli from Imo State out of eleven (11) confessed suspects already paraded by the Command.

"Chinedu and Ikemefuna are not the principal suspects but the drivers of the notorious gang. They were assisting the Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Respond Squad ( RSS) Akwuzu to arrest one Tochukwu Akolisa from Anambra State, whom according to the suspect mentioned the Tochukwu Akolisa as one of the receivers/buyers of their victim's vehicles/belongings.

"During the onslaught operation by the Operatives, to arrest Tochukwu (the receiver) took to his heels Immediately he sighted the Police Operatives in company with Ikemfuna and Chinedu.

" Regrettably, I was informed that the two suspects Ikemfuna and Chinedu were the ones driving the car when the operatives alighted the vehicle, shot at the receiver/buyer on his leg and arrested him.

"The two other suspects used the opportunity to escape from the scene with the vehicle.

"I was also briefed that during a hot chase by the Police Operatives, the suspects abandoned the car and escaped into a nearby bush.

"The area was cordoned off and all efforts to apprehend the fugitives proved abortive.

"As the substantive Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, I consider it a priority to address this situation, re-arrest the suspects, and implement necessary measures to prevent such incidents or related ones from happening again.

The CP added,"I have briefed the Force headquarters on the situation on the ground and the actions taken, which include activating operational plans to re-arrest the suspects at large and initiating disciplinary proceedings against police personnel involved due to operational lapses."

He highlighted some of the command's achievements, including the arrest of a suspect, Orji Chigozie, who was found with a locally fabricated Beretta pistol.

He maintained that the police had rescued an abducted victim in Ihiala and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla used in the abduction.

The command is still working to arrest the fleeing suspects involved in the abduction.
Orutugu reiterated the command's commitment to synergizing with other security agencies to improve operational capacity and security dominance in the state.

Well done for not behaving Like Ikemba Front Obigwe hails Ubah Loyalists


Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, has commended the Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family for clarifying their stance ahead of the November 8th governorship election.

Obigwe described their move as "commendable" and an "exhibition of political maturity."

According to him, the Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family did "marvellously well" by distancing themselves from the endorsements of some governorship aspirants by factions of the Ikemba Front.

Obigwe alleged that the promoters of the Ikemba Front are only interested in personal gain.

He noted that immediately after the death of Ifeanyi Ubah, the Ikemba Front's unity dissolved, and its members turned against each other.

The Ikemba Front's infighting has led to press releases issued by rival factions suspending and insulting each other. At the centre of the disagreement is which candidate to support in the upcoming governorship election.

Regarding speculation that members of the Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family, including Hon Kamen Chuks, are secretly working with Governor Soludo, Obigwe advised against speculation.

He said, "Let's spare them the speculations for now and allow them to follow their conscience in deciding whom to support in the forthcoming governorship election."

Obigwe praised the Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family for setting the record straight on their current political stand, adding,"What they did is commendable because they are supposed to be mindful of their political moves."

Obigwe also criticized the Ikemba Front's actions, stating that they are only interested in personal gain.

He noted that the Ifeanyi Ubah Political Family's decision to clarify their stance is an exhibition of political maturity and a good step in the right direction.

EDITORIAL: Escape of Justice Azuka's Killers: Police Incompetence or Corruption?

The shocking escape of two suspects in the murder of Anambra State lawmaker, Hon Justice Azuka, from police custody is a damning indictment of the Nigeria Police Force.

This brazen incident is akin to the proverbial dog eating the bone hung around its neck for safekeeping.

It is embarrassing that suspects in such a high-profile case could escape from under the noses of the police.

This development raises more questions than answers. Was the escape a result of sheer incompetence or was it a deliberate attempt to subvert justice?

The fact that the police command has initiated disciplinary action against the officers responsible for the escape is a step in the right direction, but it is not enough. Those found culpable must be punished severely to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Nigeria Police Force has a long way to go in redeeming its image, which has been smeared by the activities of its personnel.

Incidents like this escape only serve to erode public trust in the police. It is imperative that the police take concrete steps to address the systemic issues that led to this escape.

The circumstances surrounding the escape suggest that there may be more to Azuka's murder than initially meets the eye.

The fact that the suspects were able to escape during an operation to arrest the receiver of stolen vehicles used by the gang raises suspicions that Azuka's murder may have been a political assassination rather than a mere kidnapping.

It is possible that those being paraded as suspects may not be the real perpetrators, but rather mere pawns in a larger game.

The Nigeria Police Force must get to the bottom of this case and ensure that justice is served. Anything less would be a travesty.

The police must also take steps to prevent such incidents in the future and work to restore public trust in the institution.

Breaking: Anambra LGA Serves Quit Notice To Native Doctors

Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State has taken a bold step to curb the activities of native doctors, serving them quit notices and banning evil rituals and occultic practices in the area.

According to a public notice issued by the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Shedrack Azubuike, the decision is sequel to the establishment of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law passed by the State Government.

The notice stipulates that all native doctors and Eze Nwanys who are not indigenes of Orumba South must vacate the Local Government area within seven days or desist from practicing in Orumba South.

Indigenous native doctors are strictly advised to present themselves for profiling and documentation at the Local Government Secretariat starting from February 19, 2025.

The notice also completely prohibits and bans evil rituals and occultic practices, as well as native doctors practicing charms for quick wealth, from the local government territory.

Those engaging in fortifications and charms for evil protections are also advised to leave the area immediately.

The Chairman has declared war on these evil activities, and anyone found after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum will face the full wrath of the law.

The public is empowered to provide useful information concerning the hideouts of these native doctors.

This move is aimed at maintaining peace and security in Orumba South and ensuring that the area is free from evil activities.

Two suspects in Anambra lawmaker's murder escape, CP Orders manhunt

In a shocking turn of events, two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Anambra State lawmaker, Hon Justice Azuka, have escaped from police custody.

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an operational plan to re-arrest the suspects and has also initiated disciplinary action against the officers responsible for the escape.

According to a statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has deployed human, operational, and intelligence assets to ensure the suspects are re-arrested and justice is served.

The escape occurred during an operation to arrest the receiver of stolen vehicles used by the gang in their deadly activities.

Although the receiver was arrested, and two vehicles were recovered, the two suspects fled the scene.

The police command has assured that efforts are in top gear to re-arrest the suspects and bring them to justice.

The officers responsible for the escape will also face disciplinary action if found culpable.

This development comes after nine suspects were initially arrested in connection with the murder of Hon Justice Azuka, who represented Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

Traders of Iron Rod Union, Atani Road, a suburb of Onitsha have sent Save Our Soul (SOS) message to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State to hearken to their cries by unsealing their market, sealed since January 23, 2025.


Making the request on behalf of the traders during a press conference in Onitsha, chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT) Chief Eugene Obi -Okoye, and the former Public Officer (PRO) of the Market, Mr. Jude Mbadugha, appealed to the Governor to prevail on his Special Adviser on Market, Chief Evaristus Uba and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Chinedu Ike, the former chairman of the Market, Chief Nnaemeka Onuzulike and Evaristus Ejezie, the current chairman of the market to immediately reopen their market.
They also asked the Governor to prevail on the office of his Special Adviser on Security which uses one Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu harass and intimidate them to desist from interfering in their market and tormenting the traders.


Addressing newsmen on behalf of the traders who paid for plots in Nteje, Mbadugha said without due regard that this matter has been in the Court, the people mentioned above went ahead to shut down their market at a time when they were just returning from Christmas and New year festivities.


He said it is necessary to state that they want their 178 plots to correspond with the number of those of them who contributed money, querying the rationale behind the closure of their market without allocating them their plots they have paid for.

"Our plots have not been given to us, yet they sealed our market", said Mbadugha who alleged that it was Nnaemeka and his conspirators , not Anambra State Government that included their market in the list of markets that would be sealed so that he would force them out of Atani Road to his new market which has not been completed.

He also accused Nnaemeka of having refused to render account of the market project to the traders.

He said for almost four weeks,they have not been doing anything because their market was shut down by Chief Uba, Ike, office of Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Nnaemeka and their agents.


The former PRO lamented that the closure of their market has added to the current hardship being experienced in the country, saying that some of them have been finding it difficult to take care of their families and pay their children's school fees especially this closure coming after Christmas and New year festivities.

In their letter to the Governor, the Trustees of Iron Rod,Atani Road equally pointed out that the case has been in the Court,stressing that they have been losing hundreds of million of naira since the closure.

In the petition by the chairman of the BoT, Chief Eugene Obi -Okoye, written by their lawyer, C.I. Nwokoye,they asked the Governor not to allow some of his aides to frustrate his Second Term agenda by frustrating traders who would vote for him in November election .

They accused Uba, Ike and one Chukwuma from the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security of taking side with Nnaemeka's group instead of being neutral as demanded by their ethics of their offices to be in a better position to resolve the matter.


"The Union has problem but instead of being neutral and impartial umpire , Chief Uba and Ike sided one faction of the union controlled by the former chairman, Nnaemeka",said the BoT boss who called on the Governor to use his good office to direct that their market at Atani Road be unsealed with immediate effect.

Anambra Commissioner causing confusion in Nimo - Community Leader Tells Soludo

The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Town Union Affairs, Hon TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, has been accused of stoking the crisis in Nimo Community, Njikoka LGA, by continuing to recognize Engr Dan Anakpe as President General despite a court judgement nullifying their election.

It will be recalled that a Neni High Court had on December 18 last year ruled that the Nimo town union elections held in January last year were not done according to the town's constitution and directed the conduct of fresh elections by a caretaker committee.

However the Anakpe group appealed the judgement but failed to obtain a vacation order.

According to Ogbuefi Frederick Awagu, JP, PRO, Nimo Elders Forum, rather than reprimand the Engr Anakpe-led executive for contempt of court, the Commissioner said the judgement had been appealed against and that it was only after a higher court upheld the earlier judgment that he would recognize any other person.

But Awagu has challenged the Commissioner to mandate the other group to produce a vacation order by the court which would absolve them of contempt of court.

He expressed disappointment with the stance of the Commissioner, noting that the situation had led to the other party fomenting trouble in Nimo, as well as ridiculing the traditional ruler of the town.

He referred to a recent incident where the Anakpe group refused to allow the royal father of the town to speak at a funeral ceremony of the wife of a cabinet member, which, he said, nearly led to a brawl.

"This is a highly provocative act capable of causing a security breach in the town," said Awagu, who called on the Governor of Anambra State to wade into the matter and prevail on the Commissioner to do the needful to avert crisis in the town
Nimo Community has been embroiled in crisis for over a year following the activities of some elements believed to be working against the traditional ruler and who at every turn attempt to ridicule the throne as was the case at the funeral ceremony where they attempted to stop him from speaking to the bereaved member of his cabinet.

Govt has nothing to do with whether women wear bras, pants or not - Soludo



The Anambra State Government has denied stories making the rounds that it has authorized the arrest of women not wearing bras and pants.

Mazi Ejimofor Opara, PhD, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, debunked this in a public notice.

He said the trending announcement by the town crier in Abagana, Njikoka LGA, is neither from the State government nor Agunechemba Security Outfit.

Opara emphasized that such trivial matters have no legal support and cannot be the focus of the State government or its law enforcement agencies, especially when the state is focused on ridding itself of criminality.

While encouraging decent dressing in communities, Opara clarified that the government's primary focus is on maintaining law and order, not policing underwear choices.

The government has urged citizens to disregard the announcement and continue supporting security agencies with credible information on criminals in their communities.

As Opara emphasized, "If you see something, say something!"

South East Dev't to spend N140bn in 2025

The National Assembly has approved a budget estimate of N140 billion for the South East Development Commission (SEDC) for the 2025 financial year.


This was contained in the final draft of the 2025 budget of N54.9 trillion passed by the National Assembly on Feb. 14.

Recall that the SEDC board headed by Dr Emeka Nworgu and Mr Mark Okoye as Chairman and Managing Director respectively was inaugurated on Feb.11.

The budget also provided that other regional development commissions such as South - West Development Commission, South - South Development Commission
North -Central Development Commission got the same approval of N 140 billion while North - West Development Commission got 145,61 billion.

The Nigeria Delta Development Commission got the jumbo budget among the Development Commissions with a budget of N626,53 billion.

The SEDC is saddled with the responsibility of rebuilding and rehabilitation of the Southeast region from the damage of the civil war.

Okoye in his inaugural speech quoted the World Bank as saying that South East required an annual investment of $10 billion for the next 30 years to be able to bridge the infrastructure gap.

He said the SEDC would collaborate with the state governments, private sector, and development partners, we will drive the Southeast towards a $200 billion regional economy by 2035,

Okoye said the Commission would prioritise security and investment infrastructure development, agriculture, industrialisation, technology/innovation and human capital development

“The South East region faces numerous challenges at the moment including harsh investment Climate due to security concerns, low ease-of-doing business, unemployment and 2,500 active erosion sites resulting in displacement of thousands of people,” he said.

Prof. Uche Nwogwugwu, a Development Economist who spoke in Awka on Monday said the budget estimate was a good starting point for the rebuilding process.

Nwogwugwu who teaches in the Department Economics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka said the Commission should consider projects that would engender economic integration of the states in the region.

“The idea of the Development Commission is a good one and the budget is a starting point, I advise projects that will interconnect the region like railways be given priority," he said.

EDITORIAL: Soludo and the Braless, Pantless Women: Avoiding Manifest Absurdity

The Anambra State Government's alleged proposal to arrest women for not wearing bras and pants is an affront to personal freedom and privacy.

This measure, aimed at maintaining public decency, is actually a misuse of state resources and an infringement on individual rights.

Governments should not dictate what women wear under their clothing.

The idea of stop-and-search operations to enforce this rule is absurd.

It is a slippery slope that could lead to harassment, intimidation, and abuse of power.

We urge Governor Soludo to clarify his stance on this issue to prevent misguided implementation.

The government should focus on pressing issues like infrastructure development, education, security, and healthcare, rather than unnecessary moral policing.

This proposal attacks personal freedom and distracts from Anambra State's real issues.

We implore Governor Soludo to speak out against this policy and reassure citizens that their rights will be respected.

We must defend individual rights and freedoms.

The world is watching, and history won't be kind to those imposing draconian measures.

A farewell to arms in Ogoni

For three decades or more, there's been a cessation of oil production activities in Ogoni land.

But last week's meeting of President Bola Tinubu with notable sons and groups may return Ogoni to renewed oil-production once again. Ogonis are weary of perennial neglect.

Days after the meeting, President Tinubu gave a nod to the establishment of a new University of Environmental Technology in Tai in the Ogoni area. He had earlier on approved appointments into some federal boards on which he appointed some notable Ogoni.

The President’s actions and speeches so far have indicated good faith and intentions. This has urged hard-nosed and irrepressible resistance leaders like Attorney Ledum Mitee, one-time President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), to be in complete agreement with the return to oil production.

He was heard on the news calling all well- meaning sons and daughters of Ogoni land to accept the turnkey offers coming their way.

Many Ogoni however are still doubtful about the President’s intentions. They have said it is all geared towards the Federal Government having access to the rich oil and gas deposits in Ogoni soil.

There is also distrust by some who have yet to heal from past injustices inflicted on the land by previous governments in cahoots with the oil majors.

Since 1993 when oil production stopped in Ogoni land following intensive protests from the Ogoni, the Nigerian government and the oil majors stopped reaping from millions of dollars in proceeds from the oil and gas.

Lawson Hayford, a veteran journalist, who has reported the Niger Delta for over four decades, particularly the Niger and the Ogoni crisis, said Nigeria has lost revenue amounting to over N30 trillion for the 32 years that oil has not been mined in Ogoni land.

Writing in the Southern Examiner, Hayford said, “While oil exploration and production in the Niger Delta region began in the late 1950s, operations were suspended in Ogoniland in the early 1990s due to disruptions from local public unrests with oil fields and installations remaining largely dormant for about 34 years, leading to a loss of revenue of over N30 trillion.

“There are a total of 96 oil wells connected to five flow stations across the four local government areas of Khana, Gokana, Tai, and Eleme in Ogoniland. They were being operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC of Nigeria, a subsidiary of the Royal Dutch Shell.”

That story is presently being rewritten by the remediation efforts of Hydrocarbons Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and the work of Prof Nenibarini Zabbey, its coordinator.

"Over 50 communities are now enjoying potable water." As though this was not magic enough, contractors are working hard toward mangrove regeneration not to leave out empowerment programmes for women and people with disabilities. These are stories too good to be true.

In addition, the Petroleum Industry Act has also been introduced to cater to some basic needs of the oil communities, especially by tying development of the communities to the operational budgets of the oil companies. The establishment of a host community development Trust as a condition for oil mining license holders regarding community development, may well be the magic wand required to turn things around for the Ogoni. A trying present is most likely to give way to a prosperous future.

The future of the land and peoples of oil-bearing communities appear brighter with possibilities within this framework.

Environmentalist and lawyer Iniro Wills however strongly thinks that the community-friendly Clause in the PIA is only a tiny drop that cannot quench the thirst of the people's appetite. Only time will tell.

A lot of work needs to be done to bring every party in the Ogoni scenario to the table. Some groups are yet to agree with the return of oil production in Ogoniland, while others do not quite agree with the modus operandi adopted to initiate the process. They would all need to be brought together to ventilate their positions so that everyone is taken along together.

Last Saturday, the committee that emerged to kickstart a process of the consultations initiated by President Tinubu convened a meeting at Freed Centre, Bori in the heart of Ogoniland. Though it was well attended but proceedings had to be hurried as group of protesters stormed the venue.

Blessing Wikina, a long time public communications expert from Ogoni however notes that the Bori meeting was a good landing.

He said he was there. He dismisses the slanted reports about the meeting which he said were done to create social media content. He says in his social media handle that the committee deliberately avoided founding the consultations along old ‘loyalty blocs’ and ‘groups of people with entitlement blood.’ “Every Ogoni was to attend as an individual, not as a member of a camp. This approach meant no one would claim success or failure.”

Several factions exist in Ogoini land, including the leading pressure group, MOSOP, and they all need to get involved in the consultations, including those sulking for not being invited to the Abuja parley with the President.

Factional MOSO President, Fegalo Nsuke, recalled how MOSOP championed the Ogoni struggle from the beginning and wondered why MOSOP was not invited to Abuja or the Bori meeting.

Hayford says, “Sidelining MOSOP in the move to re-enter Ogoniland for oil and gas production could create distrust in the hearts of the Ogoni people, cautioning against rushing the process in order not to generate tension, anxiety and crisis in the landscape of Ogoni area.”

Certain that the current process led by President Tinubu would yield good fruit for the Ogoni, Wikina says, he silently prays that “this Oil Resumption come sooner, so that our people will participate in productive ventures around our oil economy.....and get benefits like our brothers is Orashi area, Bonny axis etc.”

He looks at the Bodo-Bonny road that will link mainland Nigeria with the vital island port of Bonny that is passing through Ogoni land. “Shall we wait, watch, as vehicles drive through here, to where lucrative oil businesses are happening…without our involvement?

Every party will have to sheathe their sword and embrace the ongoing consultation process that will lead to a prosperous future for the land and the people.

The passing of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a colossus of Nigerian politics and a champion of justice, equity, and fairness, has left a gaping void in the nation's leadership landscape.

At 96, he departed this mortal coil, leaving behind an indelible mark on Nigeria's political firmament.

His commitment to the principles of democracy, federalism, and social justice inspired generations of Nigerians.

Adebanjo's conviction in the righteousness of his cause was exemplified by his courageous support for Peter Obi's presidential bid in the 2023 general elections.

Despite being a Yoruba leader, he boldly declared that it was the turn of the Igbo people of the South-East to produce the president of Nigeria.

This stance was striking in a political climate where tribalism has become a deeply ingrained and corrosive force.

Throughout his life, Adebanjo remained true to his principles, even when it meant swimming against the tide.

His leadership of Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, was marked by a fierce dedication to promoting the interests of the Yoruba people, while also advocating for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

His commitment to the Federal Character principle and true federalism guided his actions and decisions, earning him the respect and admiration of Nigerians from all walks of life.

Adebanjo's legacy extends far beyond his political activism. He was a devoted family man, leaving behind a solid family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His commitment to his community and nation was inspiring, and his passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.

However, his spirit and legacy will live on, guiding us towards a more just, equitable, and prosperous society.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, we remember his words and actions, which continue to inspire us to strive for a better Nigeria.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo may be gone, but his shining star of integrity will continue to illuminate the path towards a brighter future for our nation.

Obiora Okonkwo: Your Professor is inferior, stop rubbing shoulder with Soludo

In my reaction to the above referred TVC news report that was credited to Obiora Okonkwo, I will reveal what I discovered about the shameless love-vendor called Obiora Okonkwo.

What I discovered about him is that he likes rubbing shoulders with Governor Soludo even when it is evidently clear to Nigerians at large that Obiora Okonkwo cannot untie the rope on Governor Soludo shoes.

He is only forcing himself to be on the same level with Governor Soludo but he is not and can never be.

Like I said in one of my recent write up against Obiora Okonkwo, he will be disgraced again by Governor Soludo in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election.

He will not get APC ticket and even if he defects to any unknown party to contest the election, he will receive the same treatment that Anambra electorates gave him in the last 2021 governorship election.

My reason for saying this confidently is because Obiora Okonkwo is not a politician that makes calculated political moves hence the reason he has not been able to win any election in Anambra since he started contesting for election in the State.

As for him challenging Governor Soludo to a public debate, I will advise him to first scale the difficult hurdle of clinching APC ticket as their candidate for the 2025 governorship election or as usual defect to an unknown party to clinch their ticket for the purpose of contesting the 2025 governorship election so that he will be qualified for a public debate with Governor Soludo.

As at today, he is just a rabble rouser that does not deserve Governor Soludo attention for debate.

The Governor is more focused with the delivery of dividends of good governance to Anambra people.

In all honesty, anybody saying that Governor Soludo is not working in Anambra risks being stoned by Anambra people because as it stands today, what the Governor is doing in the State is being commended by people of the State.

The likes of Obiora Okonkwo and his opposition politicians cohorts that are saying that the Governor is not working are portraying themselves as pathological liars before the general public.

Even the insecurity problem that they were politicising and using to blackmail the Governor is being tackled.

The launch of operation Udo ga achi has yielded fruitful results and has solved Anambra insecurity problem.

Governor Soludo has truly justified the confidence reposed in him by Anambra electorates and re electing him for a second term in office will serve as a reward for the good work he is doing in our State.

EDITORIAL:UNIZIK, Reconsider That Student's Expulsion

The recent expulsion of Miss Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has sparked widespread debate about the severity of the punishment.

The incident, which involved an altercation between the student and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, raises important questions about the university's approach to discipline and student affairs.

Punishment should serve as a corrective measure, aiming to reform and educate, rather than destroy.

Expulsion, in this case, seems like an extreme measure, one that may have long-lasting, detrimental effects on the student's future.

As a moulding institution, UNIZIK should strive to provide guidance and support, rather than resorting to draconian measures that can be career-killing.

A closer examination of the incident reveals a complex situation, with both parties potentially at fault.

While Miss Goddy-Mbakwe's actions may be unacceptable in our clime, it is also essential to acknowledge the argument that the lecturer's first touch on the female student without her consent constitutes assault.

This perspective highlights the need for a more thoughtful and multidisciplinary approach to addressing the situation.

In light of this, it would be ideal for Miss Goddy-Mbakwe to undergo rehabilitation through the expertise of the Psychology Department at UNIZIK.

This would provide her with the necessary tools and guidance to understand and manage her emotions, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and cultivate more constructive ways to interact with authority figures.


Furthermore, the university should consider providing training for lecturers on maintaining healthy boundaries and fostering positive student-lecturer relationships, as well as promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness to prevent imperialistic attitudes and behaviours.

It is also important to note that Miss Goddy-Mbakwe's case should not be exploited as an opportunity for personal gain or promotion.

The university's actions should be guided by a genuine concern for the student's well-being and growth, rather than a desire for self-promotion or political posturing.

By adopting a more rehabilitative approach, UNIZIK can demonstrate its commitment to the well-being and growth of its students, rather than simply punishing them.

We urge the authorities at UNIZIK to reconsider their decision and explore more constructive ways to address the situation, ensuring that Miss Goddy-Mbakwe is given a chance to learn from her mistakes and continue her academic journey.

The university's decision to expel Miss Goddy-Mbakwe may have been intended to send a strong message about the importance of discipline, but it ultimately undermines the university's role as a nurturing and supportive environment.

Instead, UNIZIK should focus on providing a safe and inclusive space for all students to learn and grow.

Ultimately, the goal of discipline should be to educate and reform, rather than to punish and exclude.

By taking a more holistic and rehabilitative approach, UNIZIK can promote a safer, more supportive learning environment for all students, and help Miss Goddy-Mbakwe to learn from her mistakes and reach her full potential.

Families Of Slain Coal Miners Drag FG, UK Govt, Others To Court, Seek Compensation


Families who lost their loved ones in the November 18th 1949 massacre of coal miners in Iva Valley, Enugu by the British Colonial Government have sued the Federal Government, the British Government and the Head of the Commonwealth, demanding compensation.

Human Rights Lawyers, Professor Akinseyi George SAN and P.N Agazie ESQ. said they were seeking for the enforcement of the fundamental rights to Life of the miners as preserved by extant laws applicable to British-Colonial Nigeria and Nigeria as of today.

In a suit, NO: E/909/2024, instituted at Enugu High Court on their behalf, by Mazi Greg Nwachukwu Onoh, the families contend that "the deliberate and excessive use of lethal force by colonial police against unarmed and defenseless miners, who were lawfully demanding fair wages from their British employers, constituted grave violation of their rights to life as guaranteed under both domestic and international law applicable at the time".


Joined in the suit are the Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), United Kingdom, British Government, Federal Government of Nigeria, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice; and Head of the Commonwealth.

The Applicant through their lawyers Prof. Yemi Akinseye-George, SAN, and P.N Agazie Esq. also argued that "the indiscriminate execution of these miners amounts to an egregious act of state-sanctioned murder, extrajudicial killing, and a flagrant abuse of human rights without Legal or moral justification "



They are demanding an unequivocal acknowledgment of liability by the respondents for the wrongful and unlawful execution of the 21 coal miners; a formal apology from the British Government for the extrajudicial killings, comprehensive compensation for the families and dependents of the deceased miners for the irreversible loss inflicted by the British colonial administration.


The High Court of Enugu had on 12th November 2024, granted leave to the applicant to proceed with the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the deceased victims. The Court also authorized substituted service of the originating processes on the respondents, after which the substantive application was adjourned to 13th February 2025 for hearing.

At the resumed hearing on 13th February 2025, the presiding judge, Justice A.O. Onovo after listening to the prayers and application for adjournment made by the counsel to the 3rd and 4th Respondents, (Federal Government of Nigeria and Attorney-General of the Federation ), Mrs. N.R Chude, that based on the seriousness of the matter they should be allowed more time to file a rejoinder, a request which was not countered by the lead counsel to Applicant , Prof. Yemi Akinseye-George SAN.

The court granted adjournment at the behest of the 3rd and 4th Respondents,definite hearing of the case is ordered to be on 15th April 2025.

To tackle the pressing issue of insecurity in Anambra State, the aspirant proposed deploying cutting-edge technology, establishing a security command and control centre within 48 hours of assuming office, and installing advanced tracking devices and deploying forensic experts.

He reiterated his commitment to zero-tolerance for crime and criminality, ensuring that nobody can commit a crime and go free in Anambra State.

Nwosu also promised to review the existing Legislative mandate and database to cater for the aged and indigent through transparent social safety net initiatives, replacing the transactional ad hoc methods of conditional cash transfer (CCT).

Additionally, he disclosed plans to commence the foundational basis for a mass transit monorail system connecting the Onitsha-Nnewi-Awka axis with Ekwulobia, aimed at boosting commerce, development, and economic expansion.

The aspirant urged the members of the forum to get involved in the ongoing effort to Secure Anambra again, criticizing the dismal track record of the Soludo Administration over the past three years.

With his comprehensive plan, the Labour Party governorship aspirant aims to bring about a secure and prosperous Anambra State.

INSECURITY: I'm In A Mission to Reclaim Public Space in Anambra- New CP

Anambra State's new Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated his commitment to stabilizing the security architecture in the state.

Speaking on Monday in his maiden press conference, CP Orutugu emphasized his mission to fully reclaim the public space across the state and maintain law and order.

The commissioner condemned the recent gruesome murder of three siblings in Nnewi, where their bodies were found in a fridge.

He assured the public that the command would unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that the suspects are arrested and brought to justice.

CP Orutugu commended the state government and the people of Anambra for their collective efforts in condemning acts that threaten national peace.

He pledged to support the state's Operation Udo Ga-Chi initiative, which aims to promote peace and security in the state.

Orutugu outlined his strategies to achieve his goals, which include utilizing intelligence assets to prevent and combat crime, working closely with stakeholders to ensure public security and safety, and engaging with the community to promote trust and cooperation in fighting crime.
