Ndubuisi Nwobu, a shrewd politician and businessman, is a former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) in Anambra State and also served as Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area.

In his remarks, Nwosu expressed deep humility and gratitude, acknowledging the trust placed in him by the ADC delegates.

It has been nearly a year since Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's passing, and yet, the seat he occupied in the Senate remains vacant.

A glaring question lingers: who is collecting his salaries, allowances, constituency funds, and sundry benefits for nearly a year?

The absence of a by-election in Anambra South Senatorial District is a travesty that defies democratic principles.

Citizens are denied their rightful representation, and this vacuum undermines the democratic process.

A vacancy in the Senate should be filled through a by-election within a reasonable period of time.

One year is clearly beyond what would be considered reasonable, and the prolonged delay is unacceptable, raising suspicions of corruption and undue influence.

Every citizen has the right to representation, and every constituency deserves a voice in the Senate.

The continued absence of a senator in Anambra South Senatorial District is an affront to democracy and an insult to the people of the area.

We demand action.

The authorities must conduct a by-election to fill this vacancy and restore the voice of the people of Anambra South.

Anything less is a betrayal of the trust placed in our democratic institutions.

This conspiracy of silence must be broken, and the voices of the people must be heard.

APGA Slams Ukachukwu Over Tinubu Mandate Claim, Vows to Resist Rigging

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has dismissed Nicholas Ukachukwu's claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated him to deliver Anambra State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to Ukachukwu's statement, Obigwe described the claims as baseless and unrealistic.

"Nicholas Ukachukwu is still floating on the murky waters of Anambra politics.
and he will continue floating until after the declaration of Governor Soludo as the winner of the November 8th 2025 governorship election.

"To start with, Nicholas Ukachukwu is not the spokesman of President Tinubu and in that regards, he is not in a position to relay President Tinubu message to Nigerians.

"The person that has the right to do that is Bayo Onanuga , the Special Adviser on media to the President and others that are Media aides to the President.

"Nicholas Ukachukwu should have been plain in telling Anambra people that he is eyeing the job of Bayo Onanuga and Barrs Daniel Bwala,"Obigwe said.



Obigwe cited Ukachukwu's poor performance in the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial election, where he lost to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in almost all the local government areas.

"Mandating him to deliver Anambra to APC is an impossible mission," Obigwe added.

The APGA chieftain highlighted the good working relationship between Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and the President's administration, noting that the President had approved all the requests made by the governor for the betterment of Anambra State.

Obigwe predicted a landslide victory for Governor Soludo, stating, "Governor Soludo will defeat Nicholas Ukachukwu with a wide margin on November 8th, and Anambra electorate will resist Ukachukwu's rigging plot with the last drop of their blood."

He maintained that Governor Soludo's re-election is a foregone conclusion.

He said "As long as the forthcoming November 8th governorship election is concerned, there is no vacancy in Anambra State. It is Soludo for Governor till March 17th, 2030 or nothing."

This debacle follows closely on the heels of the JAMB examination glitches, which inflicted trauma on thousands of candidates and tragically led to a student's suicide.

It is unconscionable that students, the future of our nation, are forced to endure such hardship while attempting to secure their future through critical national exams.

The lack of basic infrastructure and preparedness underscores the urgent need for reform.

To prevent such incidents, authorities must invest in well-maintained facilities, develop robust emergency response plans, and implement quality control measures to ensure accountability.

Relevant authorities must prioritize students' welfare and dignity by establishing and enforcing minimum standards for all high-stakes national examinations, including adequate lighting, seating, and essential facilities.

FIDA Pushes for Law Reforms to Boost Women's Representation in Legislature

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria held a one-day HeForShe Champions State-Level Advocacy and Townhall Meeting in Awka, Anambra State, on May 29.

The event aimed to build consensus and consolidate memoranda in support of constitutional reforms that will ensure the reservation of seats for women in Nigeria's legislative houses.

Delivering the welcome address on behalf of FIDA Nigeria's Country Vice President, Amara Muojeke, Esq., Chairperson of FIDA Anambra, emphasized the importance of men's participation in the fight for gender equality.

"The fight for gender equality cannot and must not be left to women alone," Muojeke stated.

Mr. President,These Two Years Are Excruciatingly Painful: People Are Dying

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks his second anniversary in office, Nigerians are grappling with the harsh realities of economic hardship, insecurity, and a general sense of disillusionment.

The All Progressives Congress( APC) leadership insists that the administration has performed above average, but the opposition and many Nigerians beg to differ.

The economic policies implemented by the Tinubu administration, including the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies, unification of the forex policy, and naira devaluation, were meant to stimulate economic growth.

However, these policies have had devastating consequences, including skyrocketing inflation, high costs of living, and unprecedented levels of poverty.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, inflation has risen to 36.5%, while the naira has depreciated to N1,600 per dollar, making imports unaffordable for many businesses.

Most Nigerians have condemned the APC-led administration for its incompetence, lack of transparency, and anti-people policies.

The government's actions have deepened poverty, increased insecurity, and burdened Nigerians with unsustainable debt.

The removal of fuel subsidy has been particularly criticized as a reckless and insensitive decision that has triggered widespread hardship.

The government's borrowing spree, which has seen the national debt skyrocket from N49 trillion to N144 trillion in just two years, has also raised concerns about the country's economic sustainability.

The security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated under the Tinubu administration.

The resurgence of terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and banditry has claimed countless lives and displaced many more.

According to the Global Terrorism Index, Nigeria's terrorism score has worsened, ranking 15th globally.

The government's inability to address these security challenges has emboldened criminals and created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

Some optimists however believe that certain Tinubu policies are necessary for long-term growth and development.

They urge the government to implement targeted support systems to protect vulnerable groups and help small businesses stay afloat.

For instance, a subsidy replacement programme that provides direct cash transfers to low-income households could mitigate the impact of subsidy removal.

As a democratic activist, President Tinubu should prioritize Nigerians' welfare and revisit economic policies.

The government must address security challenges and ensure citizens feel safe and protected.

While the Tinubu administration has had successes, such as the student loan programme, the failures and challenges facing Nigerians cannot be ignored.

We appeal to the President to listen to his people and work towards creating a more prosperous and secure Nigeria for all.
Only then can we truly say that his administration has lived up to its promise.

Ganduje Packaging Ukachukwu To Aso Rock like Belgium Rat won't Save Him- Obigwe


The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum has dismissed Nicholas Ukachukwu, the Anambra All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, as "not electable" ahead of the November 8th election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Coordinator of the forum, Chinedu Obigwe, APGA accused APC's Ganduje of attempting to "package" Ukachukwu for President Tinubu's acceptance, but insisted it would not change the outcome.

"Ganduje's packaging of the drowning Ukachukwu... will not save them from defeat," Obigwe said.

"Not even his packaging like Belgium rat by Ganduje for presentation to Tinubu can save him from the defeat that is staring him at the face."

Obigwe alleged that Ukachukwu's emergence as APC's governorship candidate was a result of financial inducement, claiming that "Ganduje sold Anambra APC governorship ticket to Ukachukwu as the highest bidder."

The APGA chief further accused Ukachukwu of plotting to rig the election with presidential might, citing his desperation and lack of electability.


"Ukachukwu is desperately hatching a plot to rig the November 8th governorship election... because he knows very well that he is not electable."

Meanwhile, Obigwe praised Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's administration, saying Anambra State is "now the envy of other States in Nigeria" under his leadership.


He urged citizens to reject Ukachukwu's "dead on arrival" governorship ambition, describing those supporting him as "enemies of the State."

"No vacancy in Anambra State government house," Obigwe declared. "It is Governor Soludo for Governor or nothing till March 17th, 2030."

REBUTTAL: Senator Ugochukwu Uba’s Appointment Valid — Ekelem’s Attack Personal, Not Party Position.

As the Social Democratic Party (SDP) continues to consolidate its leadership structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, recent claims by the South East Zonal Chairman, Chief Arinze Ekelem, purporting to debunk the appointment of Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Ugochukwu Uba as Deputy National Chairman (South), have raised serious concerns among stakeholders and party faithfuls. However, credible facts and records emerging from the national headquarters of the party strongly affirm the legitimacy of Senator Uba’s appointment and expose what many now describe as a personal vendetta driven by parochial interests.

On May 15, 2025, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the SDP, under the chairmanship of Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, convened in Abuja to fill key vacant leadership positions in accordance with the party’s constitution and the mandate of the National Convention. At the end of the meeting, the NWC officially appointed three distinguished Nigerians into leadership positions — among them, Senator Ugochukwu Uba as the Deputy National Chairman (South). The announcement was publicly communicated by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, with a detailed profile of each appointee.

It is therefore perplexing, obnoxious and misleading for a subordinate structure like the South East Zonal arm of the party, led by Mr. Arinze Ekelem, to attempt to overturn a legitimate decision of the National Working Committee. The authority to make, validate, or nullify such national appointments lies solely with the National Working Committee — not a zonal vice chairman whose jurisdiction falls directly under the zone now constitutionally led by Senator Uba. This alone invalidates the public statement issued by Mr. Ekelem and raises questions of gross insubordination.

What makes it more troubling and scandalous is that this is not the first time Senator Ugochukwu Uba has served the SDP in various strategic capacities, and at no point in the past was his membership ever questioned by Ekelem. In April 2022, Uba served as Secretary of the National Election Committee. In June of the same year, he was a Member of the National Convention Committee. He went on to serve as Chairman of the National Presidential Technical Committee in August 2022, and was later appointed Deputy Chairman of the SDP National Presidential Council in November 2022. These were no minor roles — they were all sensitive assignments directly sanctioned by the National Secretariat of the SDP.

Furthermore, Senator Uba also functioned as a member of the Convention Organizing Committee in 2022 and was assigned to the sub-committee on Elections, which conducted the very process that brought the current NWC into office. He later served as Director of Finance for the SDP Presidential Campaign from 2022 to 2023, and was also a member of the Party’s Special Committee on Strategy. These roles reinforce the long-standing trust the national leadership has had in Senator Uba, whose academic and political credentials remain unmatched and portray Arinze Ekekem as either a rabid joke or deliberate nuisance.

Senator Ugochukwu Uba is not just a politician; he is a consummate academic and public servant. He holds a first-class degree and a PhD in Political Science. He previously served as a Director General and Honourable Commissioner under the SDP government in Anambra State in 1992, was a Distinguished Senator representing Anambra South from 2003 to 2007, and a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport. He is also credited with the passage of the landmark Cabotage Act, which turned around Nigeria's Maritime Industry. Beyond politics, he has contributed to academia as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Abuja until 2021 and, importantly, as a former Senior Lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

It is therefore shocking and suspicious that the South East zonal leader, Mr. Arinze Ekelem, would claim that Senator Uba is not a card-carrying member of the SDP. If that were true, how was he qualified to serve in numerous national roles under the same party over the years? Why did the same individuals never raise any objections until his latest appointment to a position they apparently covet? This appears to be conspiratorial and aimed to subvert party directives.

Evidently, Mr. Ekelem’s current outburst is nothing but a thinly veiled act of personal vendetta. His grievances appear to stem from the fact that someone from his own state — Anambra — was appointed to a national position that he perhaps assumed would be handed to him. Ironically, records indicate that in 2022, Mr. Ekelem had the opportunity to choose between contesting for Deputy National Chairman (South) or retaining his current position as Zonal Chairman. He chose the latter. It is, therefore, baffling and curious that he would now turn around to fight his own brother from the same state of Anambra, who accepted the very post he declined.

Even more disturbing is the question: what exactly is Mr. Ekelem trying to achieve by fighting his own kinsman while other zones of the SDP have acknowledged Senator Uba’s appointment and are already working harmoniously with him to strengthen the party? Rather than building bridges and uniting the region for electoral success, Mr. Ekelem appears committed to sowing seeds of discord and driving away competent party members at a time when other parties are actively welcoming experienced politicians into their folds ahead of 2027.

Instead of aligning with the broader vision of the national leadership to grow the party, Chief Arinze Ekelem has embarked on unnecessary controversies, targeting key individuals and causing unhealthy rivalry within the SDP. His pattern of behavior — attacking fellow members, dismissing national decisions, and creating intra-party conflict — is a recipe for the destruction of the party’s unity and strength in the South East and questions his loyalty to the party, especially in this season of defections and anti party accusations.

In a recent media interaction, Senator Ugochukwu Uba called on the National Working Committee to take a firm stance on the unbecoming actions of Mr. Ekelem. He urged the leadership to investigate and address his excesses, suggesting that Mr. Ekelem may be acting in the interest of rival political forces. “His actions bear the hallmarks of someone working to weaken our chances in 2027 from within,” Senator Uba remarked.

This sentiment is widely shared by many party stakeholders, who believe that if Mr. Ekelem’s behavior is not checked, it could jeopardize the SDP’s prospects not just in the South East but nationally.

In conclusion, the appointment of Senator Ugochukwu Uba as Deputy National Chairman (South) remains valid, constitutional, and in line with the party’s internal procedures. The only body with the authority to review or alter this appointment is the National Working Committee — not any zonal structure. All well-meaning members of the SDP are hereby encouraged to disregard the false claims made by Chief Arinze Ekelem and instead support the national leadership’s effort to consolidate, expand, and position the party for victory in 2027.

The time to unite is now. The SDP must not allow internal saboteurs to derail the path to 2027. Every serious party is currently consolidating its strength. We cannot afford to waste time on petty rivalries and destructive egos.

Ekelem should be stopped from using the South East zone as a pawn in his selfish game. The SDP is bigger than any individual. His activities constitute gross indiscipline and sabotage against the party and call for serious disciplinary action as a deterrent against future subversive attempts.

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, has lauded former Governor Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju for establishing Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, describing him as a visionary leader who has not received adequate recognition.

Speaking at the university's combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, Soludo praised Mbadinuju's foresight in founding the institution, which has become a source of pride for the state.

"This 25th anniversary of the university we are celebrating today was the brainchild of a remarkable man," Soludo said.

"Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, the first civilian governor of Anambra State between 1999 and 2003, is the founder of this university. Yet, he has not been properly honoured for this contribution."

Soludo recalled that the university originally started at the Uli campus, a vision brought to life by Mbadinuju's dedication.

"May his soul rest in peace. I believe Anambra State has not done enough to celebrate him.

"We will find a meaningful way to immortalize the founder of this university, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju," Soludo assured.

In a separate development, Anambra's First Lady, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) in recognition of her transformative "Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative."

Anambra ADC Governorship Candidate Resigns, Paves Way for John Nwosu

Patrick Obianyo, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, has resigned from the position, citing the burden of the aspiration as the reason.

Obianyo, formerly the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, made the announcement during the party's Governorship substitution Primary Election held at Hyton Hotel in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

"Please, stop calling me His Excellency. That name has stopped today, not regrettably, but happily because I'm happy to have resigned and hand over the baton to a more capable hand, Mr. John Nwosu, to lead us to victory in the November 8 governorship race in the state," Obianyo said, adding that his blood pressure had increased due to the stress occasioned by the position.

The party's Governorship substitution Primary Election, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw John Nwosu emerge unopposed as the new governorship candidate.

Nwosu, a former governorship aspirant in the Labour Party, was elected through a voice vote after the returning officer, Chief Anayo Arinze, resorted to this option after going through extant laws.

In his acceptance speech, Nwosu expressed his commitment to rescuing Anambra State.

He said, "Today marks another important junction in our efforts to rescue Anambra. We will partner with ADC, her alliance, and coalition partners to form a formidable opposition that will dislodge the incumbent administration."

Nwosu described his decision to join the ADC as a welcome change, assuring that his political platform, mission, and vision remain consistent.

Land Grabbing: Okwesi Family In Nteje Seeks Soludo's Intervention

The Okwesi family of Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State has decried the use of security operatives by a Real Estate Developer to harass, intimidate and unlawfully arrest his people in their own property.
Speaking to newsmen, Chief Charles Okwesi, who is the chairman of Okwesi family called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo and all people of good conscience to intervene to prevail on Bishop Onyeka Nzekwe from further harassing them in their own property.
He said in the past Nzekwe had brought security operatives including the military and the Police to harass, intimidate them and in each ocassion their people were injured, arrested and detained.
In another ocassion, Charles alleged thar Nzekwe brought touts and hoodlums who were shooting indiscriminately, but later arrested with about five fire arms and taken to Abuja.
Just yesterday, being Tuesday May 20,2025, he said Nzekwe again allegedly through the State Ministry of Lands brought some men of Civil Defence who beat their people and arrested them but latter left them.
He said the increasing use of security operatives illegally by the Chief Executive of Pinleaf is becoming a serious concern, alleging that one Mr Oliver Okeke from Ifite Dunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the State was the person backing him.
When contacted the leader of the Civil Defence team who didn't mention his name said that they were not sent by the State Command of Civil Defence but by the Ministry of Lands.
He said they arrested some people but they have released them, warning them not to be seen in the land he said was in dispute.
But Charles queried when dd Ministry of Lands started arbitrating on land disputes, saying that the whole thing was masterminded by Nzekwe who want to hijack their ancestral land through the back door which has failed.
When contacted Bishop Nzekwe's number did not go through but when he spoke with newsmen last time he denied using thugs and security operatives to intimidate and harass the Okwesi family.
The Chief Executive of Pinleaf said he was not a violent man, wondering how he can use violence to settle rifts.

As Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi prepares to assume office as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka today, for the second time within a year, the institution's instability is laid bare.

The controversy surrounding her appointment, coupled with Prof. Au Noneyelu's petition, underscores the need for a more permanent solution.

Prof. Noneyelu's petition alleges bias in the selection process, citing his higher score of 132 points in the University Senate selection test/election compared to Prof. Arinze-Umobi's 79 points.

He claims the Governing Council Chairman's decision to favour a female candidate was predetermined, sparking concerns about fairness and merit.

This tumultuous period, marked by multiple acting Vice-Chancellors and a contentious substantive VC tenure in less than a year, has taken a toll on academic and administrative activities.

Students, staff, and stakeholders have borne the brunt of this instability, which has hindered research, academic planning, and overall progress.

It is imperative that the authorities prioritize stability and progress, ensuring Unizik regains its reputation as a citadel of learning and research.

To end this cycle of instability, we urge the federal government to constitute the full governing council of the university and appoint a substantive Vice-Chancellor through a transparent, merit-based process.

Ndi Anambra Won't Be Deceived By Nicholas Ukachukwu's fake pastoring

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Nicholas Ukachukwu, as a "fake pastor" and questioned his integrity.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Ukachukwu's emergence as APC's candidate was marred by controversy and allegations of impropriety.

"Nicholas Ukachukwu's antecedents portray him as a fake pastor and evangelist," Obigwe said.

"The allegations surrounding his emergence as APC's candidate, including claims of bribery and intimidation, further reinforce this perception."

Obigwe cited the withdrawal of Obiora Okonkwo from the APC primary, who allegedly stated that his ambition was not worth spilling the blood of his supporters.

"This is an indirect way of telling the public that the winner of the primary is ready to kill anybody that stands in his way," Obigwe said.

The APGA Chief also questioned Ukachukwu's recent visits to churches in Anambra, describing it as a desperate bid to create a false impression of APC's acceptance in the state.

"He is labouring in vain to buy the conscience of our church leaders with money all in a bid to actualize his rigging plan," Obigwe said.

In contrast, Obigwe praised Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, describing him as a devoted Christian who genuinely puts God first in his endeavors.

"Governor Soludo has proved beyond every reasonable doubt that he is trustworthy and reliable by delivering on his 2021 campaign promises to Anambra people," Obigwe said.

Obigwe maintained that the people of Anambra would overlook Ukachukwu's antics and vote massively for Governor Soludo's re-election on November 8th.

PARALLAX SNAPS: Compulsory voting For Who? Oppressors? No!

A disturbing trend is emerging in Nigeria's political landscape: the push for compulsory voting.

Proponents argue that this would increase voter turnout and strengthen democracy.

However, we strongly disagree. Compulsory voting is a fundamentally undemocratic concept that undermines the very principles of civic participation.

In a true democracy, citizens should be free to engage or abstain from the electoral process based on their own convictions and interests.

Forcing people to vote contradicts the essence of democratic participation, reducing it to mere compliance rather than genuine civic engagement.

This approach disregards the autonomy of individuals, treating them as mere statistics rather than thoughtful citizens.

Moreover, compulsory voting ignores the root causes of voter apathy.

Rather than coercing citizens to vote, our leaders should address the underlying issues driving this apathy, such as lack of trust in the electoral process and institutions, limited access to information about candidates and policies, perceived corruption and ineptitude among politicians, unmet expectations and unaddressed socio-economic challenges, and inadequate representation and lack of accountability.

Voter apathy is often a form of protest or expression of dissatisfaction with the electoral process or political system.

By choosing not to vote, citizens are signaling their discontent with available options, lack of representation, or unaddressed issues.

Rather than silencing this voice, we should listen and respond to their concerns.

Our leaders should not be quick to impose solutions that burden citizens without addressing the systemic problems that lead to apathy.

Instead, they should prioritize electoral reforms that ensure free, fair, and transparent elections, increase transparency and accountability in governance, and promote meaningful engagement between citizens and their representatives.

They should also focus on policies that address socio-economic challenges and promote inclusive growth.

By prioritizing these issues, we can foster a more engaged and participatory citizenry. Compulsory voting is a solution that ignores the underlying problems.

Let us focus on healing the system, not forcing citizens to conform to it.

In a democracy, citizens should be empowered to make choices, not forced into compliance.

We urge Nigerians to reject the push for compulsory voting and instead demand meaningful reforms that promote genuine civic engagement and democratic participation.

Our democracy deserves better than coercion; it deserves empowerment, inclusivity, and good governance.

Let's build a nation where no man is oppressed. That should be the priority now.

Unizik Boils Again, Nullifies Purported Election of Prof AU Nnonyelu as Acting VC in 3 hours

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has debunked reports of the purported election of an Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof AU Nonyelu.

Some media outlets had earlier today reported that Prof A.U. Nnonyelu had been elected as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor, defeating other contenders with 132 votes.

However, in a statement issued in Awka on Thursday by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi, the Council clarified that there is no enabling law or statute that permits any university organ to elect either an acting or substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The statement reads in part: "We urge the general public and the university community to disregard the unfounded piece of news of the purported election of an Acting Vice-Chancellor as infantile desperation by some elements within the university community.


"It does not represent the true position of the state of affairs, and we would not sit idly and allow some desperadoes to usurp the powers of the Council or the Visitor to the University."

The Council cited Section 1(13) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions, Amendment) Act 2003, which mandates the Governing Council to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice-Chancellor.

The statement further explained that given the impending expiration of the six-month tenure of the outgoing Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu, the Council had requested the convening of the Senate to nominate five qualified professors, out of which the Council will appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor. The process is ongoing and will soon be concluded.

Unizik has experienced significant leadership instability, with three Acting Vice-Chancellors and one substantive Vice-Chancellor within a year.

The tumultuous period saw Professor Bernard Odoh's brief tenure as substantive VC, which ended in his removal.

This led to Prof Joseph Ikechebelu's reappointment as Acting VC. Previously, Ikechebelu had acted as VC, was removed, and then handed over to Prof Carol Arinze-Umobi, who in turn handed over to Odoh.

Odoh's tenure was cut short when he was sacked by the Federal Government under controversial circumstances within two months.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board's recent admission of errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is an honour to the exam body.

This acknowledgment, though belated, demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability.

Unlike some other agencies that would stonewall or advise affected parties to go to court, JAMB has taken responsibility for its mistakes.

This proactive approach is commendable, especially considering the immense pressure and stress that candidates and their parents have endured.

The decision to allow candidates from the affected states to retake the examination is a step in the right direction.

However, this incident should serve as a wake-up call for JAMB to be more circumspect in the future.

Labelling states like Anambra and Lagos as hotbeds of examination malpractices without concrete evidence was unfair and damaging to their reputation.

Given JAMB's admission of culpability, it is clear that the board should exercise caution and ensure thorough investigations and substantiated evidence before making public pronouncements.

The economic and psychological trauma inflicted on parents and candidates due to the errors and the repeat examination cannot be overstated.

Many families will bear the extra burden of preparing their children for a re-examination, which could have been avoided with more robust quality control measures.

To prevent such incidents, JAMB should implement measures such as instant score display to identify errors promptly, conduct regular audits and checks to ensure accuracy and fairness, and thoroughly investigate allegations of malpractices, making findings public in a fair and transparent manner.

By taking these steps, JAMB can restore confidence in the examination process and ensure the UTME remains a credible assessment tool for tertiary institution admissions in Nigeria.

Anambra Visit: Show Tinubu-Ukachukwu Handshake Picture, Get N1m Reward - Obigwe

The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors' Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, has challenged supporters of Nicholas Ukachukwu, the APC governorship candidate in Anambra State, to produce a picture of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shaking hands with Ukachukwu during the President's recent visit to the state.

Obigwe offered a N1 million reward for anyone who can produce such a picture.

According to Obigwe, Ukachukwu was treated like a stranger by APC governors and President Tinubu during the visit.

"Produce the picture and go home with N1 million," he said.

Obigwe claimed that Ukachukwu's emergence as APC candidate was facilitated by money rather than genuine support.

Speaking on a report denying any alliance between President Tinubu and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State as allegedly issued by the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Obigwe said the Imo State governor did not issue such press release.

He said the alleged statement credited to Imo State Governor was false, adding, "The person lured with money by the drowning political camp of Nicholas Ukachukwu to act as if he is speaking on behalf of Governor Hope Uzodimma is Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the Southeast Chairman of APC."

Obigwe predicted a landslide victory for Governor Soludo, dismissing the Ukachukwu-Ekwunife ticket as worthless.

"The ticket of Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife can be likened to a useless Zimbabwe dollar.

"The truth is that the two of them cannot do more than a dead rat in the forthcoming November 8th governorship election."

Obigwe maintained that Senator Ekwunife is only interested in reviving her dying political career and that she "accepted to be Ukachukwu's running mate to also cash out from the free money Ukachukwu is throwing around."

He added, "Anambra is in safe hands, and the good people of the state are determined to re-elect Governor Soludo for a well-deserved second term."

"Ukachukwu is floating in the murky waters of Anambra politics and he will continue floating until after the well-deserved declaration of Governor Soludo as the winner of the November 8th governorship election," Obigwe stated.

Nimo Besieged by Hoodlums, Monarch Cries Out, Seeks Help

The traditional ruler of Nimo Community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness, Igwe Maximus Ike Oliobi, says the town has been taken over by criminal elements and has called on security agencies to save the town.

Addressing newsmen in his palace, Sunday, Igwe Oliobi said a few criminally minded youths being sponsored by mischievous elements with selfish interests in the town had been holding the town hostage, causing chaos.

The monarch spoke shortly after the youths forcefully shut down the town's market, Saturday, in protest over the death of a youth, days after his release from police custody over an offence.

But his fellow youths accused the traditional ruler of causing the youth's arrest, eventually leading to his death. They shut down the town's market during their protest, an action described as sacrilegious by even their supporters who spoke in their WhatsApp group.

Reacting to the latest developments the monarch decried the activities of the youths, accusing them of destroying core values in the town and threatening its peace.

Igwe Oliobi urged the people of the community and the public to disregard the allegation against him, stating that he had no hand in the death of the late youth, Ifeanyi Odibelu.

He called on the security agencies, particularly, the Police, DSS and the newly inaugurated state security outfits, Udo Ga Achi/Agunechembra operatives, to conduct a proper investigation to unravel the actual cause of the death.

'I am innocent of the allegation levelled against me. This gang of youths are protesting against my throne for waging war against kidnapping, armed robbery and for not welcoming land grabbing activities in the community. These are the same people that invited unknown gunmen to occupy the bush between Nimo and Neni from where they started kidnapping our people.

'The protesters, including the late Odibelu, are the people disturbing the peace, unity, togetherness and the development of Nimo Community. Nimo is a home of peace that doesn't need hooliganism.

'The protest was for their selfish interest and not for the interest of real Nimo youths.

'The community under my rulership has done everything possible to engage these gangsters so that they can be useful to themselves, their families and to the community, but the refused to work, rather preferring to involve in land grabbing and other nefarious activities that will fetch them quick money.

'This set of youths that are holding this community to ransom are not more than 30 in number. For the past three years, their criminal activities have thrown the community into chaos and disunity.

'They are doing everything criminally possible to chase away investors in our land that is largely known for peace and for the community not to benefit from Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's Solution Agenda.

'We enrolled these particular youths into various skill acquisition institutions, including Innoson Manufacturing Company in Nnewi, and the ongoing One Youth Two Skills empowerment programme of the State Government for them to legitimately work and earn a peaceful living, but they all ran away in search of quick and easy money.

'I was called to come and serve my good people of Nimo because of my long time contributions to the development of the community and I can proudly say that my 8 years on the throne have recorded a massive transformation across the four corners of the town. It includes the ongoing construction of Nimo Civil Centre which after completion will emerge the best across communities in the South East Region of Nigeria.

'A total of 14 brilliant indigent students are also studying Medicine and Engineering courses at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, under my rulership scholarship scheme.

'I am doing all this for the sake of progress, peace, unity, togetherness and for the future development of the town,' Igwe Oliobi said.

He therefore called on the security agencies, particularly, the Nigeria Police Force, DSS and Agunechemba to urgently deploy more of their personnel to the community to dust down tension and apprehend the hoodlums.

Anambra Primary School Sells Prefect Nomination Form for N5,000, Govt Slams Sanctions

A primary school in Anambra, Blossom Fount School, has been caught in a web of corruption after allegedly asking each pupil aspiring to become the head prefect in the primary section to pay a fee of N5,000.

As a consequence, the Anambra State Government has imposed a one-month sanction on the school.

According to the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the practice is a deeply troubling attempt to commercialize student leadership and exploit children’s ambitions for financial gain.

She described the act as amounting to “selling the psyche of the children to the highest bidder from the cradle.”

Chuma-Udeh strongly condemned the act and reiterated that such conduct is not tolerated under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, which is committed to upholding integrity and fairness within the education system.

An investigation has been launched into the school’s broader management practices.

According to a reliable source, additional sanctions may be applied based on the investigation's findings to ensure accountability and deter similar incidents across the state’s schools.

EDITORIAL: Police Bail Scandal: Stop Deceiving Nigerians, Publish Bail Prices

The Nigeria Police Force's bail system is shrouded in secrecy and exploitation, touting bail as a free and accessible right while leaving Nigerians to shell out huge sums in various disguises to secure freedom for their loved ones.

Despite bail being a fundamental right, Nigerians are often forced to pay exorbitant sums in bribes and arbitrary demands.

According to a 2022 report by a highly respected professional body over 70% of bail applicants pay bribes ranging from N50,000 to N500,000.

This grand deceit must end.

The police should publish and advertise bail prices for different offences, allowing Nigerians to make informed decisions. Transparency would curb corruption, exploitation, and suffering.

Kenya's bail system offers a valuable lesson, operating on a transparent grid that specifies bail amounts for various crimes.

By adopting a similar approach, the Nigeria Police Force can restore public faith and ensure justice without prejudice or financial burden.

To achieve this, the police should establish a clear bail grid and publicize bail procedures.

It is time for the police to prioritize integrity and serve Nigerians with fairness.

By publishing bail prices and streamlining procedures, justice can be truly accessible to all, served with transparency and accountability.

Soludo's Brewery Comment: A Professor's Lapse in Judgment -History Beckons

Governor Chukwuma Soludo's recent remark during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's one-day visit to Anambra State has left many scratching their heads in dismay.

By stating that the last presidential visit to Anambra State was in 2012 to commission a brewery and private enterprise, Soludo aimed to contrast it with President Tinubu's visit to commission projects he claims are better.

The governor's comment, intended to tout his administration's achievements, took a cheap jab at his predecessor, undermining the dignity of the office he holds.

However, this statement was unnecessary and unbefitting of a professor of economics.

Government is a continuum, and such petty remarks only serve to undermine progress that transcends administrations.

Ironically, Soludo's jab reveals a lack of understanding of economic principles he should be well-versed in.

Commissioning productive outfits like industries, which can employ people and drive economic growth, is far more beneficial than inaugurating social projects with limited impact.

The 2012 presidential visit likely had a more lasting impact on Anambra's economy and citizens' lives.

Moreover, Soludo's statement backfired. The New Government House President Tinubu commissioned was not built by his administration stricto sensu ; it's a project that has been ongoing for nearly three decades.

Besides, the New Government House commissioned by President Tinubu is a Commonwealth building that over 90 percent of Ndi Anambra would not have access to in their lifetime.

This context makes the governor's remark seem more like a desperate attempt to claim credit than a genuine celebration of progress.

The "Solution Fun City" project, which Soludo prides himself on, raises questions about the role of government in such ventures.

In states like Lagos, similar projects are driven by the private sector, freeing up government resources for critical infrastructure and public services. This approach has contributed to Lagos' lead over other states.

Soludo's comment was a lapse in judgment, unworthy of his office and academic background.

As a professor of economics, he should prioritize productive investments that benefit the masses over vanity projects.

Anambra State deserves progressive thinking, focused on tangible development rather than petty politicking.

Tinubu's Visit: Ukachukwu Now Floating like Unburied Spirit- Obigwe

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent visit to Anambra State, dismissing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu's chances in the upcoming governorship election.

According to Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors, Ukachukwu's political camp is "living in fool's paradise."

Obigwe stated this in a press release on Friday, in reaction to a news report titled "APC outshines APGA at Anambra Airport during Tinubu visit".

Obigwe noted that the President's visit underscored Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's control over Anambra State, affirming it as "undoubtedly an APGA land."

He added that the warm reception Tinubu received from thousands at the Alex Ekwueme square in Awka was a confirmation of Soludo's popularity.

Obigwe described Ukachukwu's situation, saying, "Nicholas Ukachukwu is now floating like the spirit of a deceased person without a funeral...He loves celebrating emptiness and pettiness."

Obigwe emphasized that Ukachukwu's attempts to create a different impression would be futile, as the people of Anambra have openly expressed their desire for Governor Soludo's re-election.

Obigwe further alleged that Ukachukwu's plans for the election, including potential rigging, are doomed to fail, stating, "What Nicholas Ukachukwu is planning to do on November 8th is rigging... Such evil plan is already dead on arrival because President Tinubu will not sacrifice a useful Governor Soludo for a useless Nicholas Ukachukwu."

Obigwe asserted, "No vacancy in Anambra government house till 2030."

Tinubu's Anambra Visit: APGA Members, Soludo Support Groups Stripped of Uniforms, Warned

Ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's visit to Anambra State today, the Presidency has directed members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Soludo Support Groups not to wear their uniforms during the President's reception.

Sources close to the matter revealed that this decision was made to avoid giving the event a partisan tone.

According to insiders, the President's visit is primarily in response to an invitation from Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary of the Commonwealth, who is hosting an event at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka.

The President's political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had expressed concerns that the visit could be perceived as a vote of no confidence in their governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, especially given the timing in an electioneering period.

A source familiar with the planning of the visit confirmed that the ban on uniforms was one of the conditions set before the President agreed to attend.

"This APGA uniform issue is one of the conditions given before BAT agrees to come," the source said.

Following this directive, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Special Adviser to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, issued a statement informing attendees of the President's reception to dress in Mufti.

"This is to inform you that everybody coming to Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka for the reception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tomorrow( today) should be in Mufti," Dr. Obiogbolu said, adding, "Please, nobody should put on APGA clothes or Support Groups uniforms."

The move aims to emphasize the non-partisan nature of the President's visit, focusing on the commissioning of projects executed by Governor Soludo's administration, without more.

The recent release of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results has sent shockwaves across the nation.

A staggering 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 marks out of 400.

This dismal performance is a glaring indication of a deeper crisis in our education system.

As we grapple with the causes of this mass failure, it is essential to consider the multifaceted nature of the issue.

The proliferation of android phones among children has undoubtedly contributed to a significant shift in their priorities.

Instead of books, many young minds are fed a diet of social media, games, and endless streams of videos.

Research suggests that excessive screen time can lead to decreased attention span, reduced critical thinking skills, and a decline in academic performance.

However, android phones are just one part of the story. The quality of teachers is another critical factor contributing to this debacle.

Many educators today seem more focused on rote memorization and multiple-choice questions than nurturing creativity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

A study by the National Foundation for Educational Research found that teachers' lack of subject-specific training and inadequate support can significantly impact student outcomes.

Governments at all levels must also take a hard look at their commitment to education.

Budgetary allocations to the sector are often woefully inadequate, leading to infrastructure decay, inadequate resources, and a lack of support for teachers.

According to UNESCO, Nigeria's education budget as a percentage of total government expenditure is significantly lower than the recommended benchmark.

The penchant of Nigerian leaders to send their children abroad for studies has left our schools in dire neglect by governments.

Parents, too, have a role to play in this narrative. By providing android phones to their children at a tender age, they may be unwittingly sabotaging their future.

Instead of literature books that spark imagination and learning, children are handed devices that can distract and disable.

In many homes today, family discussions and quality time have given way to screen time. Parents and children alike are often glued to their phones, leaving little room for meaningful conversations or supporting kids with their home lessons. This constant distraction can significantly impact family relationships and academic performance.

Findings suggest that reading for pleasure can significantly improve academic performance, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.

The shift towards Computer-Based Tests (CBT) in our education system warrants scrutiny. While technology can enhance learning, CBT can also disadvantage students who lack access to computers or adequate training.

Countries like Germany and Finland have implemented CBT in a balanced manner, ensuring that students are well-prepared and have equal access to technology.

Some countries have opted for traditional pen-and-paper assessment methods over Computer-Based Tests (CBT) in certain contexts, citing concerns about its weaknesses, including potential limitations in assessing critical thinking skills and potential biases in test design.

To address these challenges, we need a comprehensive approach that prioritizes quality education, supports teachers, and fosters a love of reading in our children.

This can be achieved by providing educators with subject-specific training, resources, and mentorship to enhance their teaching skills.

Governments should prioritize education and allocate sufficient funds to improve infrastructure, resources, and teacher support.

The JAMB mass failure is a wake-up call for all stakeholders in our education system.

We must work together to create an environment that values knowledge, promotes critical thinking, and nurtures creativity.
By prioritizing quality education and addressing the root causes of this crisis, we can hope to produce a generation of pupils and students who can hold their own in an increasingly competitive world.

EEDC's Monthly Bill for One Family Exceeds National Minimum Wage - Anambra Protesters

Residents of Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, have accused the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) of systematic extortion, saying the country's minimum wage of N70,000 cannot cover the company's monthly bill for one family.

The protesters claim that no household in the area pays less than N80,000 as a monthly electricity bill, even with prepaid meters.

The community staged a peaceful protest on Monday over what they described as outrageous electricity billing and the disconnection of their power supply, saying EEDC is suffering them.

The protesters carried placards with different inscription such as: "EEDC's disconnection of our power for three weeks is an attempt to cow us into submission," "Over 80% of those disconnected have prepaid meters," "N80,000 monthly electricity bill is unaffordable," and "There is a monthly cap from NERC – stop the overbilling now!"

They demanded the immediate provision of prepaid meters, the cancellation of accumulated "ridiculous arrears" resulting from inflated bills, and the restoration of electricity supply.

"We are being exploited and intimidated," the protesters chanted, adding"We cannot pay these outrageous bills, and no amount of intimidation will cow us into submission."

Chief Sunday Obinze, chairman of the Iyiowa Odekpe Landlords and Tenants Association, decried the hardship imposed on the community by EEDC.

According to him, EEDC disconnected the entire community from power on the grounds that residents were indebted, even though over 80% of consumers use prepaid meters.

"The bills sent to postpaid users range between N80,000 and N130,000 monthly. How much is Nigeria's minimum wage? How do you expect a civil servant to pay N100,000 for electricity in one month?" he asked.

Obinze noted that the community previously paid between N18,000 and N28,000 monthly before the recent billing surge.

He added that based on information from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the billing cap for their category should be around N31,000 per month—a figure the community is willing to pay.

"We are low-income earners and cannot afford bills of N80,000 to N130,000. EEDC is simply exploiting and intimidating us," he said.

Dr. Okolie Chukwunonso, secretary of the association, echoed Obinze's sentiments, stating that the excessive billing is worsening the economic hardship in the area.

He said their inquiries to EEDC about the inflated bills were ignored, and instead, the company retaliated by cutting off power in the entire community.

"EEDC is behaving like a mafia group. It doesn't listen to our cry. Most of our residents are poor and cannot fight back.

"It's unthinkable that a community where over 80% of consumers use prepaid meters would be completely disconnected over alleged debts," Chukwunonso stated.

The community is calling for urgent intervention by the government and regulatory bodies to ensure fair billing, provision of prepaid meters, and restoration of electricity.
