Minutes later, she finished with her food and went upstairs. I remained alone in the sitting-room until ten o’clock when I decided to go upstairs and sleep. When I entered Eno’s bedroom, I was confronted with a most seductive sight. On the bed was Anita, wearing very sexy lingerie and sleeping softly. I was amazed. How could she come and lie on her sister’s bed? It was a big house and I was sure there were many rooms in the house. Well, maybe I would be the one to look for an alternative room to sleep. If the worst came to the worst, I could sleep in the sitting-room. I sighed and was about to turn and leave the bed-room when Anita stirred and opened her eyes. I could see that she hadn’t slept after all. ‘Where’re you going?’ she asked. I stopped. ‘To find where to sleep,’ I answered. She frowned slightly. ‘You mean this bed could not contain us?’ ‘It’s not about the size of the bed,’ I said. ‘So, it’s about what?’ ‘It’s not proper that you and I should sleep in your sister’s room and on your sister’s bed.’ She suddenly burst into laughter. ‘Say, what? When did you suddenly become such a moralist?’ I tried a grin. ‘Your sister will not like the idea.’ ‘That’s not true. She knows I’m sleeping overnight in her house.’ ‘That doesn’t mean she’ll approve our sleeping together,’ I said tightly. ‘Oh, come on. I thought you’re a real man.’ ‘I am,’ I said in soft protest. ‘But, I’m sure Eno will not like it if she gets to know that we slept in her room.’ She chuckled. ‘Come on, Steve. You really think I’ll come to her room without her permission?’ I shook my head. Eno had given me the instruction that I should stick only to her. What Anita was saying was completely at variance with what Eno had said. ‘I don’t believe she gives you the go ahead that we should sleep together,’ I said. Anita looked surprised. ‘Wonderful, I can see that my sister has really worked hard on you.’ She picked up her phone and called Eno. ‘You will have to call him and tell him what to do,’ she said. She listened briefly and cut the connection. I wanted to step out of the bedroom. ‘Wait,’ Anita said. ‘She’ll call you.’ Truly, my phone started ringing and it was Eno on the line. I quickly thought over the situation. 'Okay. I'll be in the office by noon, but I won't stay there long. It's just to finish some work. You can see me then.' 'Okay. See you then.' I dropped the call. 'Wait a minute,' Yetunde quickly said. 'Don't tell me you're going to work today.' 'I have some loose ends to tie,' I replied. 'But I won't be there for long.' 'You've worked hard during the week days and you should rest during the week ends. I won't want you to be going to work on Saturday. I don't like it at all.' 'It's not all Saturdays,' I quickly put in. 'It's just for today.' I quickly kissed her and that doused further agitation. I wore jeans and t-shirt and was set. 'Don't stay long, dear. If you stay long, then I will have to channel my complaint direct to daddy.' 'There's no point you do that,' I said hurriedly. 'It will look like I'm the one complaining to you, and I don't want that.' 'Alright, but don't stay long.' I drove to the Lagos office at Yaba and was surprised Bisola had got there before me. We went to my room at the BQ. 'What could be so important that you have to call me like that?' I asked her. She looked at me and smiled. 'You didn't even comment about my hair.' Bisola had just done her hair and she looked pretty in her t-shirt and skirt, but I thought there was more important issue to comment about than hair. 'Your hair is fine,' I said. 'Just fine?' 'It's beautiful,' I conceded. She smiled too. 'Thank you. You're looking handsome too.' I grinned and sat on a chair. 'You've not told me why you wanted to see me.' 'I missed you,' she said, coming to sit on my laps. I shook my head. 'Is that why you want to see me?' 'Yes, because I missed you so much.' Her hands went to the zip of my trousers and moved the zip down. Unlike Yetunde, she didn't really fancy kissing but the core action. She removed her t-shirt and her black bra without any ado. Then she stood up to bring her skirt and pant down and off. She completely pulled my trousers and boxer out. No pre-intimacy: just straight to the action. Wow, what an action! 'I won't have the luxury of staying long,' I said. 'Yetunde is already complaining that I shouldn't be coming to office on Saturday and that I shouldn't stay long.' 'She can't have you only to herself.' I sighed. Maybe it was my fault. I guessed I was too weak. I was too weak to tell Bisola that it was all over and stood by it. In spite of my tiredness, I was able to perform the task to the best of my ability. But Yetunde did something I considered funny. Right after the act, her lips came again and we resumed the kissing game! In the morning, we remained in bed till eight o'clock. There was no doubt that this was a preview of how our marriage life would. So far, in all honesty, things were not bad. I finally got up to have my bath. While I was bathing, my phone rang, but only briefly. I could hear Yetunde speaking on the phone. Lord, why did she pick my call? She looked at me curiously as soon as I returned to the bed-room and I knew that something was up. 'Who is Bisola?' she asked. I caught my breath. So, Bisola was the one calling! 'She's my cousin,' I lied. 'She called when you were bathing.' I tried to look casual. 'What did she say?' 'She said she would call back.' I nodded. 'She's in the university and she probably needs some money.' I was glad I had saved Bisola's name simply as 'Bisola'. If it had been an endearing name, trouble would have burst. Then, Bisola had been discrete in the way she talked to Yetunde. About twenty minutes later, Bisola called again. 'Hello, is that you, Henry?' 'Yes, this is Henry on the line. How're you?' 'I've got to see you,' she said. 'We've got to talk.' I was very conscious of the fact that Yetunde was staring at me. 'Hope no problem?' I said. 'When we see, we'll talk.' I quickly thought over the situation. 'But I won't be there for long.' I went to have my bath and changed to shorts and t-shirt. ‘What will you like to eat?’ she asked. ‘Anything.’ ‘Let me go to the kitchen and prepare something very delicious for you.’ She left for the kitchen but she soon came to rejoin me in the sitting-room. Several minutes later, the food was ready. We ate and chatted like good friends. 'I'm happy we're getting along fine,' she said. 'I'm happy you've finally forgotten about that ... that former house maid.' I grinned and nodded. After the meal, I was soon dozing on the sofa in the sitting-room, although it was still early evening. 'I can see that you're tired,' she said. 'Let's retire to the bed-room.' I agreed with her and moved to the other room. I soon slept off. It was about middle of the night that her hand aroused me from sleep. I opened my eyes slowly. Her right hand moved over my chest more in the slow and teasing cuddle. 'Didn't you miss me?' she asked. I knew what she wanted. 'Of course, I did.' My right hand moved to pull her to my chest. 'Do you really love me?' I smiled. 'Of course I do. You shouldn't doubt me by now.' 'If you really love me, I want you to show it.' I smiled again. 'Alright.' The sleep had left my eyes now. I rubbed her back and kissed her lips. 'Can we do that for a long time?' she asked. 'Why not?' I didn't know I was about to make a record of having the longest kiss in my life. After several minutes, I stopped the kissing, but she returned her lips to mine and we got glued again. It was the first time I would be seeing a lady that would be so crazy about kissing. Finally, I was able to move away my lips. My mouth went to her boobs. If she was crazy about lips contact, then, I would say that I was crazy about nipples contact. The way she desired my lips was the way I desired her nipples. But that would not be the end of the desire. The greatest desire was vaginal contact. That was the ultimate. In spite of my tiredness, I was able to perform the task to the best of my ability. But Yetunde did something I considered funny. Right after the act, her lips came again and we resumed the kissing game! In the morning, we remained in bed till eight o'clock. But what about Bisola? There was nothing to be worried about her again, my mind said. Now, she knew that I would not marry her as a lady was already there for me. Besides, she had said she would not be an obstruction to my relationship with Yetunde, but that I must give her – Bisola – love. That should be no problem. If I played the game very well, I would be dotting to Yetunde, and at the same time, find some kind of thrill in the highly vivacious Bisola. It would be a matter of having the best of two worlds! I called Yetunde to let her know I had arrived Abuja safely. ‘Please be careful over there,’ she said. ‘I mean be careful of those Abuja babes.’ I laughed shortly. ‘You don’t have anything to worry about, my dear,’ I said. ‘There’s never anything like Abuja babe.’ ‘Oh just be careful,’ she repeated. Yes, I’ll be very careful, I told myself, grinning. After the plenary session at the senate building on Tuesday, Senator Osho called me to his office. ‘Keep up the good work, Henry,’ he said. ‘Yes, sir.’ ‘I’m impressed with your work so far and I want you to keep it up.’ ‘Thank you, sir.’ ‘How’re you finding Yetunde? I hope the two of you are getting along fine.’ ‘All is well, sir. She’s a wonderful companion.’ ‘Good. I’m happy to hear that. If she’s posing any problem to you, let me know.’ ‘Yes, sir.’ He shook my hand. ‘Very soon, I’ll not only be your employer, I’ll also be your father-in-law.’ ‘Yes, sir.’ I knew it was a subtle way of telling me to take my relationship with Yetunde seriously. I grinned to myself. There would be no problem at all. I remained in Abuja till Friday. That Friday, I decided to travel down to Lagos by commercial bus. It was a very long, windy and tedious journey and I wished not to travel by road again. Yetunde had been calling me periodically to ask where we were and how long it would take us to get to Lagos. I got to Lagos few minutes to six, after being on the road for over eleven hours! I met Yetunde in my apartment. ‘Oh, my darling,’ she greeted as she came to hug me. ‘You must be tired. Oh, dear, what a long, boring trip.’ ‘How’re you, darling?’ ‘Fine.’ I went to have my bath and changed to shorts and t-shirt. ‘What will you like to eat?’ she asked. ‘Anything.’ ‘Let me go to the kitchen and prepare something very delicious for you.’ She left for the kitchen but she soon came to rejoin me in the sitting-room. She rubbed my chest. ‘I love you, Henry.’ Oh, here we go again, I thought. ‘Does that mean you’ve been pretending to love me all this while?’ she asked. ‘No, there’s no point in pretending about anything.’ ‘Then, you must continue to show me love. Go ahead and obey your parents. Go ahead and marry her, but you must continue to give me love.’ I was surprised she was talking this way. ‘But, that’s not right, is it? It’s not right that I should be cheating on her.’ ‘Is it right that you should ditch me?’ she parried. ‘Is it right that you should break my heart?’ I shook my head, but said nothing. ‘But, I don’t want to make you look like a bad person before your parents. So, I don’t want you to be caught with me. Do you really know what I want?’ I raised my brows. ‘What do you want?’ She smiled and rubbed my chest more. ‘We’ll continue to meet. You’ll find the alternative place as I may not be coming here. I don’t want to implicate you, but we must find a discrete place to be meeting. Do we have a deal?’ I sighed again. It was a big thing she was asking for and I knew the best thing for me to do would have been to say no, but I didn’t want any harangue, so I nodded in agreement. ‘Okay.’ ‘It’s a promise you’re making, not an ordinary statement, you know?’ I nodded again. ‘Yes.’ ‘Alright.’ She kissed me again. ‘Let’s do it one more time before I go. I’m going back to the campus tonight as I have a test to write tomorrow morning.’ I traveled to Abuja the following morning to continue my work there. I continued to call Kike, and she continued to ignore my call. I thought of using a new number to call her. The trick worked. After the third ring, she picked up the call. ‘Hello, Kike. Why have you been avoiding my call?’ ‘I don’t want trouble,’ she said. ‘You mean picking my call and talking to me mean equal trouble?’ ‘I don’t want to offend mummy and daddy,’ she argued. ‘So, you’re not interested in me again, is that what you’re saying?’ She didn’t answer me. ‘Okay, have a nice day.’ I cut the line. My dad must have seriously threatened her. She seemed scared of even talking to me. Maybe I should just leave her alone for now. But then, doing that would further drive me into the hands of Yetunde. I thought over the propriety of marrying the latter. She didn’t seem totally bad. Everybody had his or her faults, for God’s sake and Yetunde was not an exception. Maybe I should devote my energy to taking my relationship with her seriously. For all I knew, Yetunde might turn out to be a good wife. Showing commitment to her would boost many things, including my perspectives in the eyes of the senator. That very moment, I decided that I would take Yetunde as my wife. But what about Bisola? There was nothing to be worried about her again, my mind said. Now, she knew that I would not marry her as a lady was already there for me. Besides, she had said she would not be an obstruction to my relationship with Yetunde, but that I must give her – Bisola – love. That should be no problem. I returned to the sitting-room where another movie was shown on the television. It would be a lonely night, I thought. I wished Eno would come home so that we could have passionate time together one more time. I thought of some of the crazy moments we had together. Indeed, I would never forget that woman. A car was driven into the compound. Could that be Eno? Had she changed her mind and had come back? Koko went to the door to welcome the person. ‘Welcome, ma,’ I could hear her greet. ‘Hey, Kokoeka, how’re you?’ The person stepped inside the sitting-room, and I was surprised it was Anita. ‘Hey, see who we’ve got here?’ she said, smiling. ‘It’s a surprise to see you,’ I answered. ‘How’re you?’ ‘Fine.’ She sat herself on a sofa. ‘So, this is where you’re hiding.’ I smiled good-naturedly. ‘I’m not hiding. Let’s just say this is my home for now.’ ‘Ah.’ She nodded. ‘I can see that my sister is taking good care of you. I can also see why she wants to have you only to herself.’ I grinned. ‘Well, that’s life. So, how’s everything? How’s that your friend, Nancy? How about that oyinbo lady, Cyndi?’ ‘They’re all fine.’ Koko came to her side. ‘What can I offer you, ma?’ ‘Oh, nothing, Koko. I’m okay. Eno hasn’t come home?’ ‘She traveled, ma.’ Anita expressed great surprised. ‘She traveled? But she said I should see her in the house this evening!’ ‘I think the decision to travel came impromptu,’ Koko said. ‘I came in to be told that she has traveled,’ I put in. Just like I did, Anita brought her phone out and called her. ‘Eno, where’re you? I’m in your house.’ She listened for some time. ‘What about what I told you?’ She listened again. I could see her smile. ‘Okay. Oh, that’s good.’ She listened a bit more. ‘Okay, bye.’ She turned to Koko. ‘Alright, you can get me some food now.’ ‘Yes, ma.’ ‘How’re you enjoying your visit to Nigeria?’ I asked her. She smiled. ‘It’s has been very interesting to be home again. But by two weeks’ time, I’ll be going back.’ I looked surprised. ‘So soon?’ ‘Yeah. Nancy and I have got to go back.’ I nodded. ‘The food is set’, Koko came to tell her. She stood up. ‘Why don’t you join me at the table, Steve?’ ‘I’ve just eaten. Enjoy yourself.’ She went to the dining while I continued watching the television. ‘Is Gloria not in this house?’ I could hear Anita asking Koko. ‘She’s in her room.’ ‘I’ll see her after my meal. That girl keeps to herself too much.’ Minutes later, she finished with her food and went upstairs. I remained alone in the sitting-room until ten o’clock when I decided to go upstairs and sleep. I was greatly surprised. ‘Traveled? To where?’ ‘I don’t know. All I know is she told me she would be traveling and will be back tomorrow.’ I brought out my phone to call her. ‘Hello, Sweetie. Where’re you?’ ‘Oh, Steve. Sorry, I didn’t remember to tell you. I’ve travelled to Abuja. I’ll be back tomorrow.’ Again, I was very surprised. ‘Abuja? For what?’ ‘For business,’ she snapped. ‘You can remain in the house. Tell Koko to prepare whatever you want.’ She cut the line. Phew, I whistled softly to myself. She said she traveled for business. What business? Did she have another boutique in Abuja or what? I shrugged just as Koko reappeared. ‘What will you have for dinner, sir?’ I grinned. White rice and stew will be okay.’ She nodded and left the room. My mind was busy. Would it not be okay to go back to my house, perhaps to also see Helen? Since Eno was not in the house, what would be my purpose of staying around? Koko came back to the sitting-room. ‘Will you prefer beef or fried chicken?’ she asked. ‘Or, do you want both? Madam wants you to be properly fed.’ That moment, the thought of going back to my house dissolved in my mind. ‘Fried chicken is okay,’ I answered. She nodded and left for the kitchen. I had not seen Gloria, Eno’s daughter. She was probably in her room. That girl liked to keep to herself a lot. I continued to watch the movie on the television. I could perceive the aroma of what Koko was cooking from the kitchen. That girl knew how to cook. Several minutes later, I could see her going to the side where there was dining table and setting a tray on it. Thereafter, she came to tell me that food was ready. I stood up and moved to the dinning-table. I said a short prayer and started eating. I would have to eat alone. As usual, the taste of the food was very good, while the stew was excellent. I really enjoyed myself. After the meal, Koko came to clear the table. ‘So, who’re you to madam?’ I asked her. She smiled. ‘I’m her niece.’ I nodded. ‘You’re good in cooking. I’m sure the man that marries you will find that very delightful. Keep it up.’ She glowed in my words. ‘Thank you, sir.’ I returned to the sitting-room where another movie was shown on the television. It would be a lonely night, I thought. I sat on the sofa while she sat on my and held me as if we were just beginning. I sighed and picked her undies and clothes. ‘You’ve got to dress up,’ I told her. She wore only the bra and pantie. ‘We have to stop doing this, Bisola,’ I said. ‘No, we won’t,’ she replied tartly. ‘Of course, we have to. Please try to understand. I’m doing this because I don’t want to disobey my parents.’ ‘Go ahead and marry whoever you want to marry,’ she finally said. ‘But that doesn’t mean we should not be seeing again, does it?’ I sighed. ‘I think to be on the safer side, it’s better we go our separate ways.’ I rubbed her back gently. ‘You’re very beautiful, Bisola. I’m sure many guys are disturbing you.’ ‘I don’t want other guys,’ she said. ‘It’s you I want.’ ‘I will compensate you,’ I said. She looked at me sharply. ‘How?’ I grinned at her. ‘I give you some money.’ She shook her head sadly. ‘Are you so desperate to get rid of me?’ ‘Oh, no. Don’t think of it like that. I just want us to part amicably.’ She appeared to think briefly. ‘No money can replace you in my life.’ It was my turn to shake my head. I had to devise means of stopping her sentiments. ‘I still have your account number,’ I said. ‘By tomorrow, I’ll do some money transfer.’ ‘Don’t waste your money,’ she said. I was surprised. ‘What?’ ‘Don’t waste your money because I won’t let you go.’ ‘Oh, come on.’ ‘Is she better than me? Does she give it to you more than I do?’ ‘It’s not about that,’ I quickly put in. ‘So, it’s about what?’ I sighed. I shook my head like someone in sadness. ‘I’m sorry, we’ll have to call it quits at this junction.’ ‘You can’t just dump me like that! I thought you really loved me!’ She was almost shouting. ‘Bisola calm down,’ I pleaded. No, no, no. How could your parents be the one to choose for you? Can’t you be a man and tell them no?’ Even if I should be a man and tell them no, you, Bisola, would still not be my choice, I thought. ‘Just calm down,’ I said. ‘No, I won’t let you go.’ She stood up and held my hand as if indeed that would ensure the continuity of our relationship. ‘I’m sorry, Bisola. I’m truly sorry.’ She acted as if she didn’t hear me. In a surprise move, she brought her lips to give me a deep kiss. I stopped her. ‘I’m sorry, we have to stop doing this.’ My statement rather than deterring her seemed to fuel her energy. The next kissing she made was crushing and breathless. Again, I had to exert a lot of energy to stop the act. But I only succeeded briefly. She reenacted the act, this time with fierceness. In addition to the kiss, her left hand grabbed my scrotum region and rubbed the place. She held me so tight I nearly chocked. I was surprised by her energy. The kiss continued, and so was her hand action on my phallus. I found myself resisting her less by the seconds. Finally, I completely gave in. She removed my clothes while I removed hers. Right there in the sitting-room and without caring if anyone would barge in, we had each other. It was a very engaging session. She acted as if she was sex-crazed and I obliged her all she wanted. All constraints and restraints were abandoned. When it was all over, I quickly cleaned up and wore my clothes. I sat on the sofa while she sat on my and held me as if we were just beginning. I shook my head. ‘The only lady I’m planning to marry right now is you.’ ‘Yet, you went out to meet another lady? You also refused to come and see my parents. They were so disappointed that you failed to come. I had to lie to them that you developed running stomach and were stooling.’ My eyes popped out. ‘You said that?’ ‘Yes. All because you’re not satisfied with one lady.’ I sighed again. I didn’t know what to say. ‘Are you still interested in me or not?’ she asked. I looked surprised. ‘Of course, I’m interested in you, Helen, darling. It’s just that …’ My voice trailed off. ‘It’s just that what?’ I could not complete the sentence. I looked away. She suddenly smiled. ‘Maybe we should go home and talk it over,’ she suggested. I shook my head. ‘I’m sorry I’m not going home straight.’ She smiled sadly. ‘I know. You’re going to see the client again,’ she said. I could discern sarcasm and bitterness in her tone. I wished I could reassure her. I wished I could tell her that though she might not get the best of me for now, she should not worry as I would still give her my best. I wished I could say all these to her, but I could not. She stood up, slung her bag on her shoulder and moved towards the door. ‘Let me drop you at your home,’ I said. ‘Don’t bother.’ She didn’t even bother to pause. I sighed again and watched her leave. I then shrugged. I was only having a good time with Eno, I thought. There was no way I could marry her. Helen was still the one I had the intention of marrying. However, for now, I wanted to satisfy myself with Eno. I drove straight to her residence and by seven o’clock, I entered the living-room. ‘Good evening, sir,’ Koko came to welcome me. Before I came down to the sitting-room, I went up to drop my folder and t-shirt and boxer. I was now becoming familiar in the house, so I could sit down comfortably and stretched my legs like the man of the house. I switched on the television and watched a tele-movie. Koko came to serve me cold water. ‘Madam hasn’t come?’ I asked. It was obvious she was not in the house, but I still felt like asking. ‘She traveled, sir.’ I was greatly surprised. ‘Traveled? To where?’ ‘I don’t know. All I know is she told me she would be traveling and will be back tomorrow.’ I brought out my phone to call her. ‘Hello, Sweetie. Where’re you?’ ‘Oh, Steve. I ate the food with relish. We were back to the sitting-room soon after the meal. She wasted no time in making herself unclad. I was a little bit tired of copulation, but I did not tell her so. As if reading my mind, she declared: ‘No sex. We’ll just tease each other.’ I wondered what she meant by that. But I didn’t wonder for long. ‘Which part of my body did you say you find most attractive?’ she asked. I grinned. ‘Your bum,’ I answered. ‘Alright.’ She lay on her tummy on the bed. ‘Come and kiss and play with it.’ I grinned more. That should be interesting, shouldn’t it? I played with it and found the play fun-filled. The following morning was Monday, the beginning of the working day of the week. I wore crispy, white, well-ironed shirt over ash color trousers. I had brought black polish along and I used the best of it on my shoes. I always liked to look good, not necessarily because I wanted to please a lady. But then, Eno was impressed. ‘You’re cute,’ she said. ‘Thank you, my angel,’ I replied. I was in the office before eight and started my work in earnest. Helen did not arrive until almost eight-thirty. ‘Hope no problem. You’re late,’ I said. ‘No problem,’ she answered sullenly. I allowed her to settle down for some time before I went to meet her. ‘Helen, I’m sorry for the disappointment of not being able to come and see your parents as promised. Please, I’ll find another time to do so. I hope you explained my busy schedule to them.’ She only paused briefly in what she was doing before she continued without saying a word. ‘Helen, did you hear me?’ I pressed on. ‘I will make it another time.’ ‘I think it’s better you concentrate on the lady you went to see,’ she said. I shook my head. ‘Come on, Helen, don’t talk like that. You’re the one I want to marry.’ ‘And I’m the one you’re treating like a rag,’ she added bitterly. I sighed. Maybe I should leave her for now and talk to her another time. I still bought her lunch as I used to, but she still looked hostile, so I let her be. We were busy in any case, so I pretended I did not notice her looks. At the close of work, she came to sit on one of the visitors’ seats in my office, staring at me. ‘Who is the lady?’ she blurted out. ‘Hmn? What did you say?’ She gazed at me. ‘I said who’s the lady?’ I frowned. ‘What lady?’ ‘The lady you went out to meet.’ I sighed. ‘I went to meet a client,’ I said. ‘You and I know you’re lying. Why don’t you say the truth? Is she the one you’re planning to marry?’ I shook my head. ‘It’s just that what?’ Read the full story from: https://publish.okadabooks.com/book/about/the_den_of_delilah__18/26154 |
I changed to casuals and sat in the sitting-room. On an impulse, I decided to call her. 'Yetunde, darling, thank you for all the troubles in re-arranging the house and the food you left behind.' 'It's a pleasure,' she returned. 'How was work today?' 'Fine. How're you over there?' 'I'm already missing you.' 'Don't worry, very soon we'll be together again. I'll be going to Abuja tomorrow, but by Friday afternoon, I should be back in Lagos.' 'Yes. Safe journey, darling.' 'Thank you. My regards to everyone there.' 'Okay. Bye.' If Yetunde carried on like this, I realized she would completely win my heart. I yawned, stood up and returned to the kitchen. There, I scooped generous portion of the rice and chicken for myself. The rice was delicious. I ate to my satisfaction and thereafter capped the meal with fruit juice. I was still on the juice when Bisola came in. 'Hello, dear,' she greeted. 'Good evening.' She had hardly sat down when she expressed agitation. 'What was that rumor you were saying?' she began. 'Rumor? There's no rumor anywhere.' 'So, what was it you were saying about having a relationship?' 'It's for real,' I answered. 'My dad and the senator want me to get married to the senator's daughter. As it is, I have no choice than to do their bidding.' 'But you have a choice,' she pointed out. 'Can't you say no to that archaic idea? Can't you tell them you're already in love with somebody you're planning to marry?' I shook my head. 'Believe me, I've done all I could do to say no to the weird proposition, but they would not bulge. My mum took time to convince me. At the point, I can't absorb their pressures again.' 'Meaning you've agreed to marry her?' ‘Something like that.’ ‘So, what happens to me?’ she wailed. ‘What happens to the relationship we’ve built?’ I shook my head like someone in sadness. I called her number. 'Hello, Bisola. I actually wanted to call you, just before you did. Something very important has come up. The senator has a daughter who just graduated from the university. My dad and the senator kind of agreed that I would marry the lady. The lady gave her consent and I'm stuck with the agreement, now.' 'What!' she yelled on the phone. 'Tell me, this is a joke.' 'It's no joke,' I explained. 'I've met the lady and from all indications, she likes the idea. Sorry, Bisola, I don't want to go against my parents. So sorry that we have to stop our relationship now.' 'What kind of story is this? I can't believe you.' 'It's very true, Bisola. As it is, I'm stuck with that lady.' 'I'll come to your house this evening to see you. You're in Lagos, right?' 'Yes, I'm.' 'Okay. I'll see you in the evening.' 'Alright.' She disconnected the line. Phew! I continued with my work. When driving home, I had to brace myself against Bisola's reaction. I knew she would not be an easy nut to crack. When I got home, the first thing I observed was how Yetunde had rearranged everything. From the bed-room to the sitting-room and the kitchen, she had properly and neatly rearranged everything. I must say that the way she had done them was impressive. Was she trying to create the impression that she would be a good house keeper? Impression or not, what she did was better than me coming to the house and finding everything in disarray. Not only that, she left short note on the table. Darling, I've prepared some fried rice. It's in the pot on the gas cooker. You can use the microwave to warm it. With love from Yetunde. I grinned and went to the kitchen to confirm what she said. Indeed, there was fried rice and there were laps of fried chicken in the pot. Wow! I changed to casuals and sat in the sitting-room. On an impulse, I decided to call her. 'Yetunde, darling, thank you for all the troubles in re-arranging the house and the food you left behind.' 'It's a pleasure,' she returned. 'How was work today?' 'Fine. How're you over there?' I suddenly relaxed and held her waist. ‘You’re right. I, indeed, must show you love.’ I was with her through-out Saturday. Early Sunday morning, she agreed to my returning to my house so that I could change clothes and relax a bit. ‘I expect you back by evening, darling. Take many clothes along. You can be going from here to your place of work.’ Despite the oddness and the queerness in her demands, I found myself agreeing to everything. When I got home, I saw a note Helen left on the center table. I picked it up and read. Dear Steve, I waited till quarter after nine before leaving your apartment. I have a strong belief that you did not go to see any client, but a lover. Why did you treat me so bad? You not only refused to pick my call, you switched off your phone. That was too bad. Helen. I sighed and dropped the letter where she had left it. It was true I did not treat her very well, but she had to bear it. Did I not tell her that she did not need to wait for me yesterday night? Did I not say it was not advisable for her to do so? Then, I remembered I was also supposed to see her parents that Saturday evening. Well, I would tell her I was with clients, and that the visit could be re-scheduled. I switched on my phone and called her. It rang on and on but she did not pick it. Maybe she was angry, I thought. She should try to understand, now. I was doing what I believed would mutually benefit us, though I could not exactly pin point how my action would benefit her. I was in the house till six p.m. then I put about four shirts and three trousers in my valise. I also put two pairs of shoes and some personal effects in the bag. I drove back to Eno’s house. More than anything, I didn’t want to offend her. I must please her as much as I could. Koko relieved me of the bag when I entered. She took it straight to the bedroom. ‘Hello, darling,’ I greeted Eno. ‘Hi.’ I went over to give her a peck. ‘Good that you’re here,’ she said. ‘I’m going to give you the kind of love and affection that you’ll never forget in life.’ ‘I trust you,’ I replied. That evening, I was given a surprise meal of pounded yam and vegetable soup with goat meat. ‘You did all these?’ I asked in surprise. ‘Koko did,’ she answered. This time around, her daughter was with us at the dining-table. She was mostly quiet while Eno did most of the talking. I realized that her choice of style might be a ploy to get pregnant, but then I was stuck with that reality. Yetunde remained with me throughout the weekend and she got stuck to me like a leech. In the evening, she made a meal with the semolina. The meal was badly done, but with the help of the 'rich' egusi soup, I was able to eat reasonably without complaint. 'I'm sorry I didn't prepare the semolina well,' she said. 'I'll do it better, next time.' I smiled. 'It's okay. I enjoyed the meal.' 'Oh, you're such a darling,' she gushed. When mum called Sunday afternoon, she was glad that Yetunde was back in my house and she slept overnight. 'You'll get used to her,' she said. 'Yetunde is not that bad.' 'You think so, mum?' 'I know so. Just try to be understanding and you'll discover how sweet she is.' 'Okay, mum.' We lived like young couple that weekend. On Monday morning, while I dressed up for work, she still remained in bed in her nightie. She was behaving like the madam of the house, but I wasn't irritated by what she did. Strangely, I was beginning to realize that she was not as bad as she first appeared to be. 'What position did daddy give you in the office?' she asked. 'Head of Media.' 'Just that?' I grinned. 'It's a good way to start,' I pointed out. 'Why didn't he make you to work in the Presidency, like Dapo?' Dapo was her senior brother and the first son of Senator Osho. 'I think this is a good way to start,' I repeated. 'If you want something more than this, tell me. I will tell dad.' I couldn't avoid the smile that came to my lips. That would be one of the dividends of having intimate relationship with the daughter of the senator, wouldn't it? 'Okay. I'll let you know,' I said. I had fully dressed up now, wearing a black suit and tie. 'What a handsome man I'm going to marry,' she said, coming to adjust my tie, the way some wives did. 'Thank you. And what a loveable and caring lady I'm going to marry.' She was delighted at my response and we kissed briefly. I counted five thousand naira from my pocket and put it on the table by the bedside. 'Use it to take a cab home,' I said. 'No,' she quickly replied. 'I don't need it. The driver will be coming to drive me home.' 'Well, you can use it to buy a little thing for yourself.' 'Alright. Thanks.' I had to give her the spare keys to the flat before I left. Hmn, what a weekend! Something told me Yetunde would make it a habit of coming to my place every weekend. My mind went to Kike. Instinctively, I brought out my cell phone. It was time I tried her number again. Her phone rang on and on, but she didn't pick it. Why was she avoiding speaking with me? Why did she listen to my explanation and believe me? I got to my office and engaged in work. The senator was in Lagos, but might not come to the office. Few minutes after ten o'clock, Bisola called. 'Hello, Bisola.' 'You didn't call me,' she accused. 'Yes, I will explain.' 'Call me back.' She cut the line. I had been thinking over how best to handle her issue and had come to the conclusion that I would tell her the truth concerning Yetunde and how her parents and mine matched us together. It would be convenient for me to blame our imminent break-up on the emergence of Yetunde. I would have to do that and the earlier the better. 'Tell me, this is a joke.' I wanted to tell her to stop referring to Kike as house maid, but that would not help the situation, would it? 'I said I've learnt my mistake. Thank God for my mummy. She really talked sense into my head. Yetunde darling, I can see love in action, now.' She smiled while I cuddled her back. 'I love you,' I said. It was a magical expression. She clung on to me. My mind screamed at me to stop deceiving her and stop the silly game I was playing with her. I ignored the voice. Her lips came for mine and the two become stuck. My right hand went to her bust. Gently, I caressed them. We stopped the kiss after some minutes. 'Now, I believe you,' she said. I smiled and nodded. The kiss resumed. She stuck out her tongue and sucked mine. We remained kissing for a long time, and I could see that she really liked that part. I took her to the bed-room. 'Do you really love me?' she asked. At a time like this, what would a man say? Would you say you were just trying to please her? 'I really love you, my dear,' I said. My hands slipped under her top again and fondled the big boobs. I raised her top over her head in removing it. I could see that she had picked a very sexy pink bra. The breasts were big, yet firm. Starting with the left boob, my mouth sucked, licked and caressed the nipple. I had to UnCloth her and UnCloth myself. She wasn't a virgin, but she behaved like she was a novice to love-making. And she just lie down like that, a far contrast to the way Bisola would wiggle her waist, make moaning sounds and show responsiveness. If the relationship lasted, then I would have to teach Yetunde some tricks. For now, I was content with the 'bishop style.' At the end of the first session, she told me there was no need I withdrew from releasing inside her. 'It doesn't matter if I get pregnant now,' she said. I knew that if I should impregnate her, that would seal my fate with her, but what could I say to counter her assertion? Truly, during the second session, she held on to me and I spilled everything inside her. I realized that unless we changed the style we were using, she would get pregnant sooner than later. I suggested doggy style early Sunday morning. 'I don't like that style,' she fretted. 'I love the way we've been doing it and I'm not complaining.' I realized that her choice of style might be a ploy to get pregnant, but then I was stuck with that reality. Yetunde remained with me throughout the weekend and she got stuck to me like a leech. In the evening, she made a meal with the semolina. The meal was badly done, but with the help of the 'rich' egusi soup, I was able to eat reasonably without complaint. She placed her lap on my leg. I grinned and held it lovingly. Helen would be mightily disappointed and probably angry, I thought, but I did not give a damn. 'Massage my leg,' she said. I ran my hands over her leg tenderly. I did it smoothly and she made a purr-like sound. 'Get undressed,' she said, few minutes later. It was the beginning of yet another trip to erogenous pleasure-land. Many hours later, it was dawn. The sun seemed to be eager to come out that cool morning, unlike me. It was Saturday and it was weekend. I would be free from customers of TMM demanding for payments or making any other sundry complaint. I remained in bed with Eno well after eight in the morning. We had had each other in the night as if we were competing over who could do it better. She was indeed 'wild' just as Biola had hinted. Eno was one woman I would never forget in my life. Even this morning, it appeared her zeal and desire had not waned one bit. Her right palm moved over my tummy to arouse me. 'Baby boy,' she muttered. That was her way of greeting me. 'My big baby,' I replied, smiling. We were naked under the bedspread. Her hand moved from my tummy to my chest. It was there for many seconds before it moved down to the pubic region. I was extra excited. We went on a dream trip again. ‘What will you like to have for breakfast? She asked several minutes later. ‘I’ll prefer bread, fried eggs and beverages,’ I replied. ‘Alright.’ She wore casuals and went downstairs. My mind went to Helen. I wondered what she did when she did not see me return to the house the previous night. But, what else would she do other than leave the place and go back to her parents’ house? What would I tell her as my reason for coming late (indeed for not coming home at all) and for switching the phone off? I suddenly shrugged and realized that I did not give a damn. Some minutes later, Eno and Koko entered the room. Koko was carrying a tray that contained food. She set it on the stool next to the bed and left us. ‘Breakfast is ready, darling,’ Eno said, as if it was not obvious that it was. We ate the bread, fried eggs and took the beverages together. The food really invigorated me. Thereafter, she brought some energy drinks. It was another kind of orgy we had together that Saturday, except it involved only two of us. We made love and even when we were not, we remained naked and frolicked. When it was four o’clock, I asked her if I could return to my house. ‘What for? Don’t tell me you’re not enjoying staying with me.’ ‘Of course, I am,’ I answered. ‘It’s just that I need to see some people by six p.m.’ ‘Which people? What do you want to see them for?’ I grinned. ‘They’re Helen’s parents. That’s my fiancée. I’ve promised to see them this evening.’ ‘You’ll see them another time,’ she said. ‘I’m having you all to myself this weekend.’ I was quiet. She came to sit on my lap. ‘Come on, baby boy. You should know I’m only showing you love. Will it not be fair that you should show me love too?’ I suddenly relaxed and held her waist. ‘You’re right. I, indeed, must show you love.’ I was with her through-out Saturday. Early Sunday morning, she agreed to my returning to my house so that I could change clothes and relax a bit. ‘I expect you back by evening, darling. Take many clothes along. She relaxed and smiled. 'Okay.' I got to my house, drove through the gate and parked the car. 'You have to assist me with one of the bags,' she said. 'That's no problem,' I replied. 'But why two bags?' She took the smaller one. 'The second bag contains some food', she said. 'Besides, I'll be here till Monday.' Monday! So, it was no longer Sunday, but Monday! 'You should be happy I'm keeping you company,' she went on. I wasn't happy, but I didn't say so. 'Yes, I'm happy,' I replied. We were back in my flat. 'Let's take that bag to the kitchen,' she said, dropping the one she took on the center table. I preceded her to the place. She put the bag on the kitchen table and brought out the contents one by one. There was a flask containing fried chick. Another contained rich egusi soup, while the third flask had fried rice and fried beef. In addition, there was a small semolina bag, a tin of Milo, a tin of Peak milk powder, a packet of cube sugar and half a dozen of tins of evaporated milk. I was impressed with all she had brought. 'You have done well,' I said. 'Thanks for all these.' She nodded. 'We'll take the fried rice this afternoon, while we can take semolina with the egusi soup in the evening.' 'Yes, that will be great.' We returned to the sitting-room. I switched the television on and sat not far from her on the sofa. She was silent for a while. 'Maybe we should continue with the wine we were taking before you left,' I said. She shrugged. I looked at her closely. It was like something was on her mind. 'Are you okay?' I asked. 'No,' she replied. My brows went up. 'What's the problem?' She didn't answer. I moved closer to her and held her left hand. 'Are you still angry with me?' I asked. 'Yes.' 'What! But I've apologized. I said I'm sorry.' 'I didn't realize I'm so bad looking.' I shook my head. 'I never said you were.' 'So, how come you prefer her to me?' I was becoming exasperated again, but managed to calm myself down. Alright, I would pretend that she was that had struck my heart with cupid's arrows. 'You made me feel so unwanted,' she went on. To my surprise, she broke down in tears. Now, I must take her the way a Romeo would take Juliet. 'I said I'm sorry,' I said, wrapping my right hand on her shoulders. 'I shouldn’t have said what I said. I don't know what came over me. But now, I realized that you're the best lady I could have.' 'You don't have to deceive me,' she retorted. 'I'm serious, my dear. Can't you see that I've changed?' I rubbed my hand across her back. Just like she did the other time, she put her hands on my laps. 'How am I sure you're still not in love with that your house maid?' I wanted to tell her to stop referring to Kike as house maid, but that would not help the situation, would it? 'I said I've learnt my mistake. Thank God for my mummy. I looked alarmed. I knew I would definitely not be back that night, so there was no need she waited. 'That's not advisable,' I answered. 'I may not return on time.' 'Why will you not return on time? Is it not just to explain things to her? Shouldn't a few minutes be okay for that?' She had a point there, but I was in no mood for logical reasoning. 'Alright, if you want to stay, stay. There's food in the kitchen.' I picked my car keys from the center table. 'Let me dash off to the place.' 'Where's the place?' she asked. 'Don't tell me you're going to Lekki this evening.' 'Oh, no,' I quickly answered. 'It's at Ikeja.' I moved out of the sitting-room. I would have loved to take extra shirt with me, but that would give me away. I drove to Ikeja and to the G.R.A. The alacrity with which I responded to her summon amazed me, but I argued that she deserved it. As the most delectable woman on earth, she deserved my affection and devotion! I parked in the parking space in her house and rapped softly on the main entrance door. Koko soon opened the door and urged me to come in. She led me to the expansive sitting-room. 'Madam just went out,' she said. 'But she said she would soon be back.' 'No problem,' I answered. Koko left me but was back few minutes later. 'Food is ready, sir. Come to the dining-table.' I nodded, stood up and followed her there. Today, there was 'fufu' and vegetable soup. I grinned to myself as I understood that Eno wanted me to be strong. I was eating the food when she came in. 'Hello, lover-boy,' she said, coming to sit by my side. 'Welcome. You meet me well.' She patted my back. 'I don't feel like eating now. Maybe later.' She stood up again. 'Meet me in the bedroom when you finish.' There was no way I could finish the sumptuous meal, but I ate to my satisfaction. I decided to rest for some minutes before I went up to her room. I knocked once and entered the place. She was only clad in bra and pantie when I entered her room. I sat on a sofa that faced the small flat screen television that was showing a soap opera. 'How d'you do?' she asked. 'I'm fine.' 'I hope you ate very well.' 'Sure.' She went to a small refrigerator in the room, opened it and brought a bottle of wine and two glasses out. She came to sit by my side and poured the drinks. I lifted my glass and was about to take a sip when my phone rang. It was Helen on the line. I hesitated. 'Who's that?' Eno asked. Without waiting for an answer, she picked the phone. I had stored Helen's number as 'Sweetie.' Eno hissed. 'The only Sweetie you have now is me,' she said, cutting off the call and switching off the phone. Not a single word of protest came from my mouth. She placed her lap on my leg. I grinned and held it lovingly. Helen would be mightily disappointed and probably angry, I thought, but I did not give a damn. 'Massage my leg,' she said. I ran my hands over her leg tenderly. I unlocked the booth. The two bags were put there and she waved off the woman. She soon opened the passenger door to join me in the car. 'Sorry, I took time,' she said. 'I had to be well prepared.' Well prepared for what? My mind asked. 'It's alright,' I said aloud, brought the engine into life and drove on. 'Did you miss me?' she asked, smiling. I smiled back. 'Yes, I do.' 'Really? But you drove me out of your house.' I wanted to get angry with her, but I told myself there was no need. I would have to always maintain coolness and refuse to allow her rattle me. 'I didn’t drive you out. Rather, you left angrily,' I said. 'You made me angry,' she replied. Again, I maintained coolness as I drove on. 'Sorry about it,' I said. 'Is that all you will say?' What else did she want? 'Alright,' I said calmly, 'I'm truly sorry for making you angry. Forgive me.' She relaxed and smiled. 'Okay.' I got to my house, drove through the gate and parked the car. 'You have to assist me with one of the bags,' she said. 'That's no problem,' I replied. 'But why two bags?' She took the smaller one. 'The second bag contains some food', she said. 'Besides, I'll be here till Monday.' My heart beat increased. Now I was going to have her for many days. I sighed in resignation. There was no response. 'Yetunde, are you still there? 'Yes.' 'I'm sorry.' 'Okay.' 'You're still angry?' 'No.' 'Thanks for your understanding.' 'Okay. You will have to come and pick me if you want me to come back to your residence. I'm in the house.' My heart raced. She still wanted to come back? I sighed. 'Okay, I'll come and pick you,' I said and cut the line. I grinned at her behavior. Just then, my phone rang. It was Kike on the line. 'Good afternoon, Uncle Henry,' she greeted. I was bemused. Where was this 'Uncle Henry’ stuff coming from again? 'Good afternoon, Kike darling. How is school?' 'School is fine.' There was heaviness in her tone. 'Hope no problem?' I quickly asked. 'Daddy just called me, now.' I became alarmed. 'My dad? What did he say?' There was a slight pause. 'Come on, what did he say?' 'He said I should leave you alone as you already have a lady you want to marry. Why did you deceive me?' My heart sank. 'No, Kike, I did not deceive you. Yes, there's a lady, but I don't love her. It's you I love ...' The signal from the phone indicated that the call had been terminated. I called her number back. No way in getting through as her phone was switched off. Damn! Damn! How could dad call her about Yetunde? How could dad paint me as already being committed to her? Oh, Lord. I was depressed. Then I blamed myself for not telling or hinting Kike before now. Gosh, I should have let her know that my parents were trying to force Yetunde on me. I remained on my seat for several minutes, then I tried Kike's number again. Her number was still switched off. So, what happened now? I remembered I had told Yetunde I would be coming to pick her. I would have to do that as I planned on what next to do. I picked my car key, locked up the flat and went to my car in the parking space. The Oshos lived at Surulere, although the man had houses in different parts of Lagos. Their residence was not far away. Within fifteen minutes of driving, I parked at the front of their white duplex. I called Yetunde. 'I'm already in front of your house,' I told her. 'Okay, I'm coming.' While waiting for her, I tried not to be worried about what Kike told me. Somehow, I told myself I would get over all obstacles and get her to become my wife. I played music on the car stereo to diffuse my mind. Surprisingly, I waited for more than twenty minutes and Yetunde had not come. I picked up my phone and called her again. ‘I’m still waiting.’ ‘Sorry, I’ll soon be joining you.’ I wondered why she was taking time. I still had to wait for another twenty minutes before she came out of the house. This time around, someone, probably a maid, helped her to bring two bags. Two bags! 'Open the booth so that we can put the bags there,' Yetunde said. I grinned. 'Well, to start with, I think you're a beautiful woman.' 'Think? You only think so?' 'Not only think,' I replied. 'You're indeed a beautiful woman.' 'Hmn hmn.' 'You're the most fascinating woman I've ever seen.' She smiled widely. I could see that she was very pleased with the endearments. The following morning, I dressed up for office from her home. 'You look very handsome,' she commented. 'Thank you, my darling.' Just as she had said, there would be nothing like pay per night again. 'Since you didn't come with your car, let me give you transport fare,' she said. I got two thousand naira from her and kissed her goodbye. I got to the office exactly eight o'clock, but met Helen at her desk. 'Hello, baby,' I greeted. 'Hello, darling.' She came to swoop kisses on me. 'How was the place you went to, yesterday?' she asked. 'Fine. Very fine. Business is progressing more and more.' We set out to work and remained busy until the lunch break. When we closed that day, Helen followed me home. She told me more about herself and family. 'I'm sure my mummy will like you,' she said. 'You look cool and you're just the kind of person she will like to have as son-in-law.' I grinned. It was good to hear her say that. Events on Friday went smoothly. 'Do not forget tomorrow,' Helen reminded. 'I told them you'll be coming by six p.m.' I smiled and nodded. 'No problem. I'm eager to meet them.' That Friday, Helen followed me home, but an incident happened that immediately threatened our relationship. As soon as we entered my flat, she came with her kisses again. The way she rubbed my chest showed that she wanted more than that. I decided to oblige her and moved my hands to her bust. It was at that point that my phone rang. Normally, whenever I was in such mood, I would ignore the ringing, but today, I reacted differently. 'That must be a client,' I said and picked the call. It was an unknown number. 'Hello,' I said into the mouthpiece. 'Hello.' It was a voice I instantly recognized as Eno's own. 'I'm waiting for you in my house right away.' 'O ... Okay,' I stuttered. My countenance changed immediately. 'Who was that?' Helen asked, looking at me curiously. I turned to her and tried a grin. 'It's a client and she wants me to meet her right away.' 'A client?' 'Yes. She has promised to deposit big sum of money. I've got to meet her right away.' 'But ... but we've not finished what we were doing,' she protested. I grinned again. 'I know. Don't worry, we'll do it another time. Let me dash to see the client.' She looked really disappointed. 'Okay, I'll wait for you.' I looked alarmed. I knew I would definitely not be back that night, so there was no need she waited. 'That's not advisable,' I answered. 'I may not return on time.' I shook my head. 'No, I've not done so.' 'And when are you going to do so? When will you have time to concentrate on me? Why don't you call her to tell her right away that it's over?' 'I can't because I love her.' She stood up. 'Wait a minute. You're making this whole thing look like I'm forcing myself on you!' 'I didn't say so!' 'But, that's what you're doing. No wonder you've been so cold to me since I came.' 'I wasn't cold to you,' I explained. ‘Yes, you are! You’re cold and hostile.’ She was fuming now. She picked up her bag and stood up. 'It is only a foolish man that will prefer a housemaid to the daughter of a serving senator. Go and marry your gutter girl.' She went to the door, opened it hastily and slammed it behind her. I was stung. So, daddy even discussed my relationship with Kike with the general public! How could he do that? This saucy Yetunde used her tongue to run Kike down. How could she do that? How gratuitous! Anyway, it was good that this happened. I was very convinced that even if Kike would not be my wife, Yetunde should never be. That lady was very arrogant. In addition, she had a razor mouth! I knew dad would not be happy at the turn of events, but I didn't give a damn again. I would not marry this Yetunde, and that was that. There was no way I would endure this her over-bearing posture. I switched on the television and tried to relax, wondering on the next thing to do. About thirty minutes after Yetunde stormed out of my residence, mum called. 'Why did you have to treat Yetunde so contemptuously?' mum asked. 'Why did you send her out of your flat?' I was aghast Yetunde would report the matter so fast and she would paint it the way she did. 'I didn't treat her contemptuously and I didn't send her out of the house,' I replied. 'What happened?' I told her briefly. There was a short pause. 'You shouldn't have mentioned or referred to Kike, and you shouldn't have made her to feel you don't love her.' 'But, I don't love her, mum.' 'You didn't treat her well,' mum insisted. 'You have to call her and apologize over your conduct.' I wasn't happy with that decision. 'Did you hear me? Call Yetunde and tell her you're sorry.' Was it not just to call and say sorry? 'Okay, mum. I'll do that.' She disconnected the line. I didn't like the way things were going but I played along. I waited for five minutes before I could call her. Her phone rang for a long time before she picked it. 'Hello,' I said. 'Hello.' 'You shouldn't have stormed out of my residence like that. It was un-lady-like.' 'You mean you called to put blame on me?' 'No,' I replied quickly. 'I called to apologize, although you have your own fault.' There was no response. I sighed. I grinned. Now, I knew better. I played along with her. 'You're beautiful,' I said. She seemed delighted. 'Ehn, that's what you should have said first.' I grinned again. 'And there's something you're doing which I don't like.' I became curious. 'What's that?' 'Ever since I came here, see the way you've been treating me.' I looked askance. 'I'm sorry I don't understand you.' 'But, you should,' she replied. 'Is this the way a man should treat his lover? No hugging, no kissing. Nothing.' 'Oh, I'm sorry about that.' 'Don’t tell me you're shy.' I laughed shortly. 'No, I'm not.' She put her right hand on my lap. My heart beat increased. Should I tell her that I liked her but did not really love her? Or should I just play along? I lifted my right hand to wrap her shoulders. She moved closer. I wished it was Kike I was holding. I imagined she was the one but could not go far with my imagination. The next thing Yetunde said brought me back to reality. 'When are we going to do our wedding?' she asked. I sighed. 'I don't know.' 'You should know,' she pointed out. 'What about next year?' I was at loss again. 'Maybe we should know each other better before we talk of marriage.' I could feel her stiffen. ‘We’ve known each other since we were kids. How else d’you want us to know each other better?’ ‘It’s not just about knowing, but understanding each other.’ 'Do you love me?' she demanded. I removed my hand from her shoulders. I supposed this was the moment of truth. She stared at me. 'There's another lady, right?'' she asked. 'Yes.' 'Haven't you ditched her? I had to ditch my guy when dad told me about you.' I shook my head. I nodded and took her to the kitchen. 'This kitchen is too small,' she fretted. 'How could they make the kitchen so small like this?' 'I think it's okay,' I said. 'Ah, no o,' she quickly answered. 'This place cannot contain many things. Where will the freezer be? What about the laundry machine? What about microwave oven, blender and dish washer? And the cupboards are too small!' I sighed as I didn't know what else to say. 'Anyway, let's go inside and talk heart-to-heart.' She had guts, didn't she? She was supposed to be a 'guest' in the house, but she was the one dictating the pace! We returned to the sitting-room and sat side by side on a sofa. 'How's school?' I asked. 'I understand you're writing your project and you'll soon be through.' She stretched her legs. 'Yes o. I want to finish fast. I'm already tired of that school.' 'Then, you'll still have to do your national youth service,' I pointed out. 'That one should be fun. I'm serving here in Lagos state.' I nodded. 'Well, aren't you going to entertain me?' I smiled. 'Pardon me. What will you like to take?' 'Can I get iced cubes? I brought wine already.' She opened her bag and brought a red wine out. 'There should be iced cubes in the fridge,' I said and stood up. 'And get some glasses too,' she added. I nodded and went to the kitchen. From the fridge, I extracted cubes of iced block in a jar. I then took two glasses, rinsed them, put them in a small tray and went to the sitting-room. I popped the wine and filled the glasses. 'Cheers,' I said. 'Cheers!' We clinked glasses and sipped our drinks. 'Do you like the taste of the wine?' she asked. 'The taste is very good.' 'Yes.' I briefly studied her. She was on the plum side and quite busty. We had chatted together in the past, but the relationship had never gone beyond that. 'I hope there's a good eatery around here,' she said. 'You will have to take me there for lunch.' 'That's no problem. We have many of them around.' 'I want the best.' I nodded again. 'No problem.' She looked into my eyes. 'How d'you see me?' I was surprised she asked that. 'What kind of question is that?' 'Oh, come on, I want to hear your opinions about me.' I chuckled. 'Alright, maybe I should start,' she said. 'I see you as a complete gentleman. You're handsome, cool and calm. What will you say of me?' Since she had good things to say about me, I decided to reciprocate the gesture. 'Well, you're pretty and attractive,' I said. She made a face. 'Is that all?' 'You're also intelligent,' I added. 'Is that all?' I was getting exasperated. What else did she want? 'I don't like you saying I'm pretty,' she said. 'Am I not more than that?' I grinned. Now, I knew better. I played along with her. 'You're beautiful,' I said. She seemed delighted. 'Ehn, that's what you should have said first.' I grinned again. 'And there's something you're doing which I don't like.' I became curious. 'What's that?'
