PoliticsRe: Africa's Security Crisis Demands African-led Solutions, Retired Nigerian General by TopBanter:

GlobalNews2020:
General Buratai has once again demonstrated deep knowledge of Africa's security challenges. His recommendations deserve serious attention.
Lol. Buratai is capping. Do you understand his tenure as COAS under Buhari? I believe the main problem of Nigeria is that Nigerians are not critically and analytically efficient thinkers and it is it the reason leaders take them for a ride.

Buratai? Please. The man is corruption and sleaze personified. Serious allegations of embezzling funds meant for procuring weapons for our armed forces personnel thus leaving them underwhelmed again well-sponsored bandits and terrorists.

Anyone can give a smart presentation. With Nigerians leaders though, check their history and you will note many are failures who talk the talk but could not walk the walk like Buratai.

Corrupt failures while in office but suddenly they have all the solutions when out of office.

Bro, this is why Reno Omokri said most Nigerians are about Rice and Eba only. Poor human resources living to eat, have sex and procreate only.

They are not particularly focused on self-development and don't believe they they should be part of the solution Nigeria needs.

Their own is to be fed so they can chase their mundane priorities that contributes nothing to what is required to develop nations to first world status.

Yea, you're right. If the income were ok nobody will think of Japa. The working environment in Nigeria is less stressful compared to foreign countries.
Our leaders are doing well, so they don't feel the impact of the economy.
Thanks for the polite response. This is something many Nairalanders don't have the maturity to key into.

The bolded is correct. Nigeria can be a great nation, with happy and productive people, if we work on what it will take for people to earn income that will allow them to meet all their needs.

This is what we must work on. I want a Dubai-like template for Nigeria. So many worldwide are moving to Dubai. Anthony Joshua moved there permanently recently.

What they are doing right is using the wealth of their nation to develop their people and nation.

Education, property development, fair tax environment, business opportunities etc there is top notch. That is what we have to do. It is not Rocket Science

This lawlessness, demand of Northerners for amnesty for terrorist and you guys demanding Kanu be freed etc, is what is destroying Nigeria.

He goofed with the 60k figure. Perhaps because, like most political leaders paid very well, he is disconnected with how Nigerians do not earn wages to cover their living expenses.

I believe if per capita income can improve so the average Nigerian is earning 300k to 400k monthly then majority of Nigerian would be happy and fulfilled.

Bwala got the figure wrong horribly and patronisingly but his central point is correct which is that Nigerians can live better in Nigeria than foreign nations on the right income.

Who is telling you people all these lies? As someone that's lived in multiple continents, this your comment doesn't worth a response
Are you the only one who has lived outside Nigeria? He is right. Some of you just argue without inspecting the point others are making. 100k USD is over 137 million Naira.

He stated that such would be enough for a retired man of sixty with grown kids who have left home meaning his life is low maintenence and fairly scaled down.

How does that not make sense? Can the retired 60 year old need more than 5 million naira a year to cover living expenses especially if he has no rent obligation?

I am fairly comfortable as a businessman and I run my private life with around 500k monthly in a normal month with no spiked spending. Food, DSTV, Unlimited WiFi subscription, fuel, grooming, dining out and clubbing now and then etc.

Business rates and expenses of course is handled by profit. How will a 60 year old retired man need to spend more than me? I am breaking down reality for you .

We just need to improve SME proliferation and diversify our economy aggressively so per capita income can improve adequately so Nigerians can meet their monthly living expenses and have some extra to save.

We must also improve access to cheaper credit so that people can buy homes, vehicles and all their immediate and essential lifestyle needs like TV, Cooker, furniture etc. That is how it works in developed nations.

Cost of living is way lower in Nigeria than the West and that is the factual point Bwala is making. We simply need to host policies and initiatives to make Nigerians earn more and afford more and Nigeria would become a nation many would wish to live and remain in as Singapore achieved.

The same AI will tell you Igbo are 20 percent of Lagos population and that Ariaria market is the largest market in west Africa. When you ask the size it will say 20 hectares, then ask the size of Ladipo, it will say 200 hectares, ask for Bodija it will say 80 hectares etc etc. Bodija is four times the size of the largest market in west Africa and Ladipo is ten times but AI does not know, yet it has the information in it's data base. Therefore AI can't be relied upon especially when it is telling you itself that it is not sure.

Then you can't say people need to relocate to their land if they want independence. There is no city on Earth where your own people don't live in so there is no reason to say any group should go back to their land just because they ask for independence. All groups, no matter how small they are, need independence and autonomy They need to be able to chart their own destiny.
You have a way of complicating what is simple. My simple point, in response to a poster who said Yorubas and Igbos have no business sharing a nation, is that if you have a strong aversion to others then you stay away from them and their corner if sincere.

That is how normal and sincere people behave worldwide. A ku klux Klan rascist in the USA will live in Harlem or the Bronx how? Won't happen.

The point is some should shut up and stop professing hate for others daily everywhere while refusing to stay away from them.

You people are a funny lot. The total Igbo in the SW can not surpass 2 million if up to that and the Yoruba in the old Eastern region may be up to that number or at least 1.5 million. Igbos in the SW outside Lagos are not more than 300k to 500k
The bulk of Igbo in the west are in Lagos and the bulk of Yoruba in the East are in PH.
There are more Yoruba in Igbo cities like Enugu, Onitsha, Awka etc on a per Capita basis than you find Igbos in the average Yoruba city apart from Lagos. The Yorubas dominate skilled labor in the East. They have hospitals, hotels, they are building contractors, oil workers, electricians, carpenters, fashion designers, wholesalers and etc. What work do Igbos even do here in the west to compare to all that? I was in Kogi in 2006 and went to Nsukka to get a transporter to help move palm kernel from Eke Avrugo to Nsukka and nobody wanted the contract because of bad road until I finally got someone. When I got to the village it was my landlady that interviewed him and announced to me he is from my state. His Yoruba was very bad and he obviously will never return to Yoruba land again. In the same Nsukka, there are Hausa people like that too that I saw.
Are Igbos more than Urhobo in Yoruba land? Not by much if at all especially in the hinterland. I know the Urhobo I grew up with. Igbos are however more than the Urhobo in Lagos. In my town of Ere Ijesa, Igede from Benue are at least five times the Igbo while Hausas are more than ten times

So don't scare the people asking for Biafra. Their people are not scattered in Nigeria more than others. They have many cities now and have returned home while there are large groups that had cities in the nineteenth century but no real one today. Bariba and etc come to mind. If no Nigeria, Ilesa today would have been a much bigger city.
I,ve noticed you have a style of discussion based on being contrarian. We are living in an information age. AI even puts my estimation of Yorubas in the SE, at 300k to 500K, as an exaggeration. See for yourself.

Meanwhile you do not address the central point I made which is that those insisting they wish to be away from other would naturally stay away from them if sincere.

Not possible, Igbos and Yorubas have no business being together in one country. It's a recipe for disaster just as it has been in Nigeria

The only way this Southern Nigerian thing can stand is if it is for a short time, to exit Nigeria and get away from the North. But after that, everyone goes their way

Yorubas and Igbos are long overdue for their own seperate countries
Bruv, you guys are always quickest to react when these sort of topics are broached because of your historical hatred of Yorubas.

Yet let us inspect facts and reality. How many Yorubas in the SE? 300k to 500k max.

Whereas you guys are 8 to 10 million in the SW. To a thinking man does that not reveal the hypocritical outlook of you guys?

You continue to insist you want to be away from others whereas they are the ones who actually prove factually they do not wish to be with you, with how they are relatively few in your land, while you are obsessed with being with them, in several millions, in their land.

If Nigeria separated tomorrow, the reality is that it is the Yorubas who will remain in their land out of the four major ethnic group while most of your folks will refuse outrightly to leave Yoruba land and return to Biafra.

Have you asked yourself why that is? Or what is the origin or end point of this your mentality?
Well-said.Their incapacity for respecting facts and reality should be studied as a University course.

Who is in the land of who? With Yorubas being no more than 300k to 500k in the SE yet they are 8 to 10 million in total in the SW.

Is it not hypocritical they are not lobbying Finland to release "innocent" Ekpa who is merely a minion of Kanu who is the head of the Snake?

Fact is that all Nigerians say the want a better nation but their actions show many are lawless, unscrupulous and comfortable with how things are.

How can anyone who respects the rule of law and the decision of a competent Court of law be campaigning for Kanu's release after his recent criminal conviction?

Why has not even a single one of them done same for Ekpa in Finland? I.e appeal he be freed ?

It is because they know that is a nation where things work as they should.

Lol. This sort of news shows how Nigeria is a lawless aberration and Nigerians themselves know it.

They are campaigning for Kanu's release in Nigeria after being convicted by a competent Court of law.

Why not do same for Ekpa serving a 5 year jail term in Finland for terrorism -related conviction same as Kanu?

We have not heard them say anything about Ekpa in Finland because they know there is no room for manoeuvring in a nation where things work optimally.

It is only lawless, ethno-religiously divided and aberrant Nigeria they can gaslight daily about Kanu's "innocence" to insist he must be set free as if evidence -based criminal conviction should just be set aside casually rather than respected by all and sundry.

..if Nigeria is good and the economy better..why are the politicians children living in abroad, UK .. even bwala children are in abroad and even UK he is complaining that it's bad

Let him send his children back to Nigeria so the said the country is better now and better than UK
It is because most Nigerians leaders are not meritoriously the best. Many got into leadership to make money and not because they are passionate about helping their nation develop.

Typically, as Black Africans, they suffer from that inferiority complex that everything about the West is superior so they do not have the mentality to key into making a nation with good weather, arable land and many material and human resources developed like Singapore.

I doubt Bwala and co have lived in the West so they do not understand issues completely which is that we should all sacrifice, as leaders and followers, to make Nigeria a great nation to live in because we have the endowment and tools to achieve that.

Every Nigerian leader takes the easy option of sending their children abroad because they don't believe in Nigeria enough to give their all for her.

Bwala might have his kids in the UK but he cannot live there because it would be a huge downgrade on the luxurious life he enjoys in Nigeria the UK cannot offer him.

The challenge is to create a Nigeria where a higher quality of life available to more Nigerians.

Bwala's 60k talk is misguided but his point about the UK being expensive is valid. I relocated to Nigeria a few years ago from the UK.

Walahi, if I lie make thunder fire me, there is not many of my friends who do not envy the move I made.

They all want to relocate permanently to Nigeria to enjoy a better work/life/leisure balance because the UK has literally become about working to pay bills and taxes with at least six months of gloomy weather as well.

They can't because they are are salaried workers and I have always been a businessman who can literally open business and operate from anywhere as I have done in Nigeria now.

Every conversation I have with my friends in the UK, they are complaining simply because they feel like robots working to pay bills.

Fact is that Britons are overtaxed and over-billed with things costing too much and quality of life declining sharply because the nation has become about literally grabbing what is in the pocket of every Briton to maintain her.

I am not knocking the UK, it is my country of birth, and still works well depending on what you want out of life.

For example, can you buy land in the UK and build your dream 4 to 5 bed home with swimming pool as can be done in Nigeria easily?

Almost impossible unless you are a millionaire which would be a billionaire in Nigeria. When land becomes available in the UK, it is mainly property developer like Wimpey, Saint George who get first dibs to purchase them. Never ordinary Britton. Yet land yapa for Nigeria . That alone is a major advantage of Nigeria over the UK.

My point is that if you earn well you will live better in Nigeria. This is why I said Bwala's 60k talk is condescending.

I feel most Nigerians today can manage well on 300k monthly. Check the official stats, don't just argue from a japa perspective, and you will know many Brits who have the capacity are leaving for better lives overseas

Check out the reel below. As I said, if you earn well, Nigeria , Lagos anyway, is far better to live in than the UK in my opinion which is a nation that has become functional and soulless.

The work/life/leisure balance is far better. I believe that is the point Bwala is making. You don't want to know how the considerable wave of Nigerian diasporans moving back to Nigeria to set up home and businesses.

Renting in London, anywhere, will be at least like £1,500 to £2,000 monthly for even the cheapest 1 bedroom flat. What is wrong with you people? These are the facts.

I am not telling you or anyone I hate the UK. Just saying that it is currently a very expensive nation many feel is about earning to pay taxes and bills. This is why many are leaving the nation for good.

Look at how even a double room in London Bridge is £1500 per calender month. How much is the average Briton earning per month? £2,200

Does not matter. Tinubu will fully back and empower who he believes will deliver the progress he wants for Nigeria. Look at Wike. Controversial but you cannot mess him around under Tinubu . Ditto Akpabio.

Yes Tinubu cares about 2027 because he knows, unlike others who just want power for the sake of it alone, that developmental plans and processes take time to deliver.

Observe what he did with Lagos where he initiated a master plan and ensured the right successors, Fashola etal, continued the forward trajectory.

It is same with Nigeria. Look at the crucial reforms the man has delivered in 3 years other Presidents have avoided for decades

Of course he needs another four years because he is determined to rescue Nigeria and understands, more than any other Nigerian politicians, that controlling power for the right length of time allows you to deliver real, transformational and lasting change for Nigerians.

They should wipe them out on sight as Musa instruct and go after their sponsors aggressively also.

Once you arrest them and seek to use them for intel, you cannot justify killing them afterwards because that would be deemed extra-judicial killing.

Bwala has a valid point because Nigerians in Britain are burdened by hugely high cost of living.

He did not even include so many other expenses like Council tax etc. If you run a Car, big chunk of money to drive and insure.

After all that though, claiming Nigerians earning 60k Naira monthly are better off than Britons on £2800 is arrogant in my opinion and indicative of how Nigerian leaders are over-privileged and disconnected from the daily struggle and plight of the average Nigerian.

I believe, even conservatively, every Nigerian requires 300k monthly to meet their living expenses.
