Let move forward; things to note
1. @50% DoD for the batteries, a very good brand @12v will give u around 2yr of use (I would not recommend 50% DoD and would not recommend 12v, go for 2v to achieve ur desire voltage).
2. 24v system is not recommended here, y? cos u have to know what u re doing in terms of wire gauge, for this amount of current, u need to go max on the wire size! So i would recommend a 48v systems (500 w continuous is a lot of load)
3. Inverter? u may need to go or at least near premium brands here.
4. For pumping machine, I don't know if I have missed the rating, how many hp are we looking at, how often do u want to pump in a day, do u wish to pump during Sun down hrs too, if yes, how long?

Let start with this first.

@Oshomo. Abeg no vex o. E be like say na car wash this oga wan open ni o.

House, happy Sunday.
I saw my pwm cc push up to 19a today. Will that not be too high a charge current for a single 200ah battery? What is the max charging current of batteries?
It usually fluctuates between 4.5 and 10. But I happened to check today and noticed that it went as high as that. 4 panels of 150 watts should have constant 32a ie(8a×4) at least is what I am told.

300 watts continuous load, and an inverter refrigerator which won't be on always.
Will pump water during the day.

Thank you.

From advise given me when I asked same question, you will need at least 1500watts(combined) panel, and a cc of not less than 40a.
In my case I opted for a 60a cc to allow for possible future upgrade. I just got supplied a cc via aliexpress that cost about 30k.

Gurus in the house will finetune my message for you. Like someone will always post, I am a novice o.

My current pwm cc has 3 terminals viz: PV, battery and load which I don't use since load is connected via inverter to battery.

This new mppt cc also has 3 terminals: pv, battery and load.

What do I connect to the load of the new cc? Do I ignore as before or connect load to it. I think the terminal is for direct DC loads but I need clarification/confirmation.
Pix attached is the result of my tinkering at about 6.45 this morning but I have reverted to the pwm cc pending response to my queries. It started with 12.7v 0a and moved to 15.1v 0a and was indicating panel is charging before I disconnected it. Thanks.

Good day house. House, my 60a powermr mppt controller arrived today. I shall fix it tomorrow.
But I have a challenge. The panel and battery ports has two +be and two -ve ports. How do I connect since wires from my panels and batteries are not two but one ie one +ve and one -be wires. I understand the pv, b and ou. Just how do i make one wire nter two slots. Those tjat are using this type of cc could also help.

I also read that I should fix circuit breakers between panel and cc and between cc and battery. I have read this before and has pencilled down this but has not bought due to funds. What is the implication of installing the cc now and incorporating the breakers at a later date. Pls keep in mind I will fix all by DIY so keep response easy to understand. Drawing will be appreciated too. Thanks.

You may want to take a pause here and ask yourself what you really want? In a 500K budget install with max 2 units of 200Ah lead acid batteries contemplated - talk of using AC on the system should not even come up not to talk of a 2HP AC.

2HP is about 1.49Kw - this is the base load for the compressor, the actual power consumption may be much higher and other household appliances will still run as well.

Allowing the stretch assumption that a 3kva asian origin inverter will carry this load sustainably paired with a lead acid battery bank, your minimum battery size to run a 1.5kw load for 10 hours is ~16 units of 12v 200Ah batteries (get the batteries to 50% DoD)

For a budget system such as you contemplate, it is best to focus on your basic appliances - excluding fridge e.t.c and only add on stuff after you get a hang of the system and what is going on.

Na so I advised o, forget ac and push to 500K. Have you gotten lesson on energy conservation? My SIL still use 60w bulb till today. I even bought and sent 5w bulbs but the bulbs were not fixed.

Can this carry a 2HP AC and how long will the AC, medium sized fridge and other appliances last in a day?

2hp should be 1.5kva. Check the panel of your ac for specification of your ac and post. Without that, anything given to you is guesswork

I'm thinking of getting a home inverter system for the 1st time ever. Can I please get recommendations to someone on this thread who truly knows what he is doing and sells genuine stuff?

Thanks in advance.

The inverter I show does not need a controller, it is hybrid. But it is 24volts so it requires two batteries to work. Maybe you will use two 100ah batteries if you cant get two 200ah due to budget. I started with only one 100ah battery(thats what is in the left of pix i posted. The chat is my WhatsApp converse with my contact at alaba while arguing price of cable.

I hope the screenshots won't get me banned sha. I am only helping not advertising. Should i get banned and unable to communicate, I wish you best of luck in your quest for power.

I need to repeat that I am a novice where solar is concerned. I only have basic knowledge, the gurus in the house can knock me and give you the technicals; I have only supplied the bones, they will supply the flesh

I think you mean on grid and off grid. Charging without phcn is on grid while gen, solar wind etc is off grid basically. It needs a "bit" more explanation.

Off grid:
1. Panels are connected to your battery via controller to charge it when there is sunlight.
2. Generator charges your battery via inverter.

On grid:
Phcn charges your battery via inverter.

If you have an idea of what you are doing, an experienced local electrician can do the wiring for you.

I did some searches and got this for you;

Six 200watts panels(1200watts)=180000
Two 200ah battery (400ah)=180000
Luminous inverter 1.5kva/12v(hybrid)=76000
10mm cable/ metre=900( length depends on distance of your panels to controller.

That's why I said you should push to 500K. But if money is a constraint, I will suggest three panels and one battery. Though experts say we should always strive to buy batteries together.is if its two batteries buy at once not one now and the other later. I shall post my DIY shortly

This loop started as a sort of diy, advise, info/knowledge exchange forum before it got hijacked by sellers and installers. At the beginning of this loop, we are advised to start small. Seems people are now comfortable and have forgotten where they started.
If the man says he has a budget of 340k and is given cost of inverter and batteries without panels, what will he use as source of power, generator or the erratic public grid? At the end his conclusion will be solar is s farce.

I think he should be advised to forget about fridge and ac for now because of their huge power consumption. Give him cost of inverter, one 200ah battery, commensurate panels and pwm controller. When giving choice of inverter, keep in mind his planned use of ac and fridge so he won't have to buy "bigger" inverter later.
Inadequate advise/knowledge from a friend is forcing me to change my inverter now.

I am on 600watts panel(about 150K purchased from alaba), luminous 900vac ecovolt inverter(30k at the time via Konga, now worth about 50k+), 60a pwm controller(7k from Ali express), one 200ah mercury battery(90k from alaba) and 6awg dual core cable(30k from alaba). A local electrician did the installation for me while I did the rest via DIY with input from friends, this loop, you tube, internet and quora. I power my TV, decoder etc but don't use fridge on it for obvious reasons and I am doing fine. I have light 24/7 now as I posted some days ago.

@mavor. I will suggest you go back and read this loop from 1 to about 100 first. Do your independent research, have an idea of what you want, weigh your options and then begin to solicit for advise. Without this basic things, I assure you you will regret going solar. I have been there and I know so. But I do not regret the road I passed. It was exhilarating and educative.
If possible push your budget to 500k, if not, just cut your coat according to your cloth. With your 340k, you should be able to have 18 hours of light to power BASIC appliances if you meet honest people. My journey took me 5 years with lots of learning and frustrations on the way. I am almost there, that's the consolation. I need to state here that I am no guru, my advise is basically from my experience in this solar journey. You can go through my posts to find out my frustrations.
And please don't contact me for anything outside advise, I do not sell anything nor do I have any link for materials outside aliexpress. There are so many honest, not so honest and outright dishonest sellers on this loop. I am just a struggling school teacher trying to make the best use of his meagre resources. These links will help.

that behaviour is synonymous with a 2nd hand battery or the likes.
what is the status of the battery, how old is it etc, 0.2v is a serious anamoly, even if you somehow manage to get it up to 13v again, the damage is almost certainly irreparable, start making plans to buy fresh new batt

on 2nd tots, is the inverter and tv still functioning?.....

Battery is about 6months old. I removed the battery reader and fixed the second battery reader to it and that one gave 100% and 13.1v. Presently TV and inverter are working now. When I fixed the battery reader to the old 100ah battery it read same 0% and 0.2v.

But what could have caused the anomalous reading.

Good evening house. I just got home to see my 200ah battery at 0% and voltage 0.2v. My son says he used it to watch TV for about 3 hours before switching it off on his way out.
What could be the probable cause(s) of this?
Will the battery still come up again?
What do I do?

The 6s1p you quoted isn't battery voltage but solar panel voltage, the inverter is connected to a 24v battery bank, the inverter is an hybrid(charge controller/inverter) with an mppt controller embedded causing the high solar voltage. You can't exceed an inverter's battery input voltage without causing total damage to the unit

Half knowledge is no knowledge o.
Now I get my questions answered. Voc and Isc is the deal in panels not the 12 or 24volts. My panel has Isc as 60a and Voc as 190v. So I can do my calculations myself from here. Thanks all.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Topmost11(m): 9:04pm On Sep 20, 2019
Pls make comments. Thanks.

A 2S2P battery (a battery is more than one cell) is made up of four cells in series/parallel configuration. If a 8000mAh battery has four 4000mAh cells of 12V each. Cell 'a' and cell 'b' would be connected in series to give 24V at 4000mAh capacity and the same will be done to cells 'c' and 'd' to give another battery of 4000mAh capacity at 24V. These two 24V batteries (ab) and (cd) are then connected in parallel to give one single battery of 8000mAh capacity at 24V.

This is my understanding until I began to wonder how 6s1p is connected.

6s1p will be= a, b, c, d, e, and f connected in series first and then (abcdef) connected to (d) in parallel? What is the resultant voltage if the batteries are 12v?

So since bigger capacity is our goal in solar, we can use our ingenuity to increase capacity but while doing so must not exceed voltage of inverter as it is already fixed based on what we opted for, 12, 24, 36, 48, etc.

OK. Now I understand. When I saw 150ah 24v was why I wondered. If I had seen 300ah 24v, I'd have understood.
