Politics / Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by Torombo(m): 12:23am On Oct 24, 2011 |
The arguments people use to criminalise a behaviour they don't like is what makes me laugh. It's unfrican and is against our culture - is it african and within our culture to steal government money? It's against our Christian/Muslim belief and morality - is corruption moral or in line with the tenets of christianity or islam? I never hear the same people call for a law against the sexual abuse of our young girls by lecturers in institutions of higher learning up and down the country. At the same time, they want to send people to jail for an act between two consenting adults in the privacy of their own bedroom. I just don't see who is being harmed here unless you want to protect the perpetrators from themselves by sending them to prison for a long time! Maybe I've lived abroad for too long and just don't appreciate how this is the biggest problem facing Nigeria! |

I'm a bit dumbfounded that most posters think that reducing the number of agencies at the ports from 13 to 6 is a bad. This situation is similar to what obtains at the MMA with a plethora of agencies checking and wasting your time hoping for an opportunity to take money from you. I have travelled extensively internationally for 25+ years and in most places the only officials you need to interact with are Immigration and security clearance 99.9% of the time. |

Sagamite: @Sagamite You can see how much energy you are mis-directing into abusing and hating others when you really need to be putting it towards dealing with your attraction to other men. I know this will be very difficult for you but you really need to do it for yourself. Maybe biachwest's girl might be able to help. If not, perhaps you could locate a suitable counsellor near you. |
Politics / Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by Torombo(m): 12:19am On Apr 16, 2011 |
Sagamite: @Sagamite There really is no need for abusive language. I wonder maybe you sometimes feel sexually attracted to other men. Your advocating killing and jail for gays is a natural reaction when you are dealing with such emotions that you find repugnant. Rather than coming on this forum to spout hatred, I will suggest that a better way to deal with your internal conflicts is to address them head-on. I pray that you are able to be at peace with yourself before too long. |
Politics / Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by Torombo(m): 12:08am On Apr 16, 2011 |
biachwest: @bichwest You engage with someone like Sagamite to help him realise that homosexuality shouldn't be such a massive issue for him to be advocating jail for any gay person unless he's a closet gay himself. |
Politics / Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by Torombo(m): 11:40pm On Apr 15, 2011 |
Sagamite: Might affect you but certainly not me. I am assured in my heterosexuality and have no reason to fear gay people. Maybe it could affect people who are not sure about their sexuality and feel they might be tempted. But I go back to my original statement that the law shouldn't concern itself about what 2 consenting adults choose to do or not do in bed. Yes, protect children and vulnerable people, protect public decency but prison should be for people who cause harm to others. |

@Sagamite: Interesting links, but, http://sandrarose.com/2011/02/the-uk-introduces-gay-curriculum-in-schools/ I've put 2 sons through primary and secondary education in the UK and I never came across this 'gay' curriculum. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/family/4365171/Social-services-remove-young-children-from-grandparents-and-arrange-adoption-by-gay-couple.html Gay couples who have been appropriately vetted can adopt children in the UK. If you know anything about the care system, youll know that is much better for the child. Anyway, we don't know the full details and will probably never know because of confidentiality. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-13096519 If you frequent Soho, then you can't complain about seeing men kissing. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1365168/Gay-couple-won-3k-Christian-B-B-owners-ditch-taxpayer-funded-fight.html The law says you can't discriminate on race, gender, sex, disability, sexual orientation and age if you are offering services to the public. If you want to run a hotel, you need to comply by the law. |

dinggle: @dinggle: I will believe you more if you were advocating jail for all behaviour you consider 'demonic acts'. How does a gay person affect your life unless you already have such feelings yourself and you want the law to protect you. |
Politics / Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by Torombo(m): 10:11pm On Apr 15, 2011 |
I think people who are the most vociferous against gay people tend to have some confusion about their own sexuality themselves. Why is NASS debating a bill to send gay people to prison? What business of the law is it what 2 consenting adults decide to do in the confines of their bedroom except where a child or vulnerable person is involved, or is causing public indecency? The thing with universal human rights is that they are UNIVERSAL. Taking away a person or group's rights means that they are no longer universal. I am a Christian who accepts the Bibli's teaching on homosexuality. But, that is an issue between individual gay people and their God and not for me to judge them. With all the problems in the country, this shouln't be something that even gets on NASS agenda. "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Voltaire |

Travel / Re: Nigerian Embassy And Police Report by Torombo(m): 2:55pm On Apr 09, 2011 |
OP - I think you have strong case to apply for a Home Office Travel Document called Certificate of Travel because you can't get a passport from the Nigerian Embassy. Details on how to apply at the weblink below: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/while-in-uk/travel-abroad/traveldocuments/applying/ This will allow you to travel anywhere except Nigeria. Please don't declare yourself stateless as some posters have suggested. Also, UK law is that a child is incapable of committing an immigration offence, so take no notice of posters saying you are a criminal. |
Religion / Pastor Jailed For handling Boy by Torombo(m): 5:15pm On Mar 31, 2011 |
An evangelical pastor who fondled a teenage boy while he slept and touched a young preacher while sharing a hotel bed has been jailed for eight months. Dr Albert Odulele, 47, admitted indecently assaulting the boy and sexually assaulting the man during a hearing at Bexley Magistrates' Court on March 3. Today at Woolwich Crown Court, in London, he was jailed for eight months and six months respectively, to run concurrently, and put on the sex offenders' register for five years. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/pastor-jailed-for-handling-boy-2258568.html |

This shows that GEJ had the best interests of the country at heart. Those accusing him of not being strong enough should ask themselves what would have happened if he'd taken the path of asserting the consitutional powers of Acting President once UMYA became indisposed. I only wish he kept to his intention of not standing in 2011 as that would have put him in a very strong position to ensure the best person emerges as PDP flagbearer and the elections are as free and fair as possible. |
Family / Re: My Marriage Is Crashing Please Help by Torombo(m): 8:45pm On Mar 13, 2010 |
I've been married for 15 years and the best advise I can give you is simply this - no matter how bad things might appear to be at the moment, the effort you need to put in to restore this marriage is a lot less than the pain and heartache of walking away, dealing with the fallout and finding someone else who will treat you better. If you both chose to marry each other, then there must be something there that can be recovered. Please pray hard for wisdom to determine how best to get back there. Don't listen to the guys telling you to walk away because the situation is too bad. Unless your husband has a mental illness, there is something that must have triggered his current behaviour. You will need a lot of soul searching and reflection yourself to undestand where all this came from, what role you played in it and what you can do to help him heal himself and your marriage. Don't get me wrong in thinking I am trying to put any blame on you. However, a relaionship is between 2 people and when it's not working, there is usually something that both parties have contributed. I can assure you that anyone who speaks to your husband now will get a completely different perspective of how things get to this point. However, I will draw the line at the STD issue as my advice to fight for your marriage doesn't mean sacrificing your life. You should abstain from any intimacy until you can be assured you are no longer atany risk. I pray that God gives you the strength to overcome. |

Yeye NCC, Talk about shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted! 69 million SIM cards already in circulation without anyway to know who owns which. I think there's enough for kidnappers and criminals to get their hands on if they want to. |
Politics / Re: Northwest Flight 253 Leg-bomber Is Son Of Dr.umaru Abdul Muttalab, by Torombo(m): 2:18am On Dec 28, 2009 |
@Sefago your brain has been scrambled @cap28 - No need to insult anyone just because they don't agree with you. My main issue in replying to this thread is my sadness at how this whole incident has resulted in the ugly scene of 9jas turning against themselves - north vs south, muslim vs christian etc Nobody yet knows the full facts of this case and it's best to suspend judgement until all comes to light. Alh Mutallab apparently did everything in his powers ti bring up his son properly and give him the best education possible. At 23, the boy is old enough to vote, get married and join the army to fight without his parent's consent. Why then are NLs blaming the Alh for his son's actions. I believe that the psychiatrist reports that the court will receive at trial will be revealing about his state of mind in contemplating the actions that he took. It might even be that he is committed for treatment rather than trial because one of the principles of the US justice system is that you can't try someone in court unless they are mentally competent to stand trial! |

^ what the hell are you saying- I hope you know that the biggest slave traders to Europeans were Africans themselves especially the Yorubas and the Igbos? Agree with you here. It's too easy to point the finger of blame at european slave traders without acknowledging that they didn't come off their ships to catch people. We africans captured the slaves ourselves and sold them. That's why it is called slave trade! |
