Crime / 37-year-old Nigerian Sentenced To Prison In UK For Meeting 14-year-old Girl by Torombo(m): 12:01am On Jan 08, 2023
37-year-old Nigerian man sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for attempting to meet with a 14-year-old girl in the UK

A Nigerian man, Osakpolor Jimoh, 37, who traveled down from Scotland to meet with a girl he met on the internet who had just turned 14 at Leeds, has been jailed for three years and nine months on five counts including attempting to meet child following sekshual grooming, attempting to incite child to engage in sekshual activity and attempting to cause child to watch sekshual act.

He was arrested in Leeds Rail Station on October 24, 2022, after booking a two-night stay at a hotel. A sentencing hearing at Leeds Crown Court heard that Jimoh, of Clovenstone Park, Edinburgh, had added the decoy profile as a Facebook friend back in May.

After striking up a conversation with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, he claimed he was 19, and asked if she had a boyfriend. He then told her she was “beautiful” and suggested the two have a “secret relationship”, before the conversation moved over to WhatsApp.

He soon asked her questions about her body and her sekshual experience.

He then sent her p%rnogr@phic videos of himself, and became “aggre**ive” with her, as she would not send him explic!t photos of herself, telling her she should “keep her man happy”. He also insisted the girl refer to him as “daddy”.

After arranging to meet who he thought was the girl, he was caught in Leeds Rail Station, and was found to have c**ondoms and lollipops with him.

When he was questioned by police, Jimoh admitted he communicated with the profile, but claimed it was more like a “father-daughter” relationship.

However, mitigating for Jimoh, Robin Frieze told the court: These are serious offences and the defendant is very sorry. This is the first time he has ever been in prison – he has found being in there very stressful.” He added that, while Jimoh was living in Edinburgh, he had cleaned on a voluntary basis for the local community “to keep himself occupied”. Recorder Mark McKome subsequently sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison.

That is Very big problematic effect befalling on Nigeria.
The federal government should step up to the duty, take the bull by the horn and effectively tackle this menace.
I also think the other media agencies should emulate this and reemphasize on this ugly trend, so that all these culprits will be arrested and made to face the law.
I keep reechoing and laying more emphatically on need to make gayism a death penalty offense.
Nigeria is big disasterous country where an act will be enacted into law but implementation is zero.
Police should step up and arrest these criminals and prosecute them.

Why do you want the death penalty imposed on gay people? Are you afraid that you may be tempted yourself? Are you asking for the death penalty for politicians stealing your future or pastors deceiving you?

I’m not quite sure why someone else’s sexual immorality affects you if you don’t want to be sexually immoral yourself. I will suggest that you focus on yourself and leave others to God’s judgement.

If you really want to do something useful, I will suggest you find solutions to the problem of corruption by the country’s leaders which is depriving people of decent jobs, good education, proper healthcare, good roads and a decent standard of living on a daily basis.

Check here:

You'll see that they require 7.5 for Engineering (academic degree) and 6.5 for Engineering (vocational training).

I think you will find it helps your future career to aim for a higher score.

Fados - just a bit of genuine advice for the future.

As Youth President of your church, you need to be careful in dispensing your help for girls like this.

I will suggest that you make sure she's properly prepared for the exam before committing your money to paying the exam fees. You can do this by putting together a remedial programme for her in your place for an appropriate period of time.

At the end of this period, you can then test her readiness by making her sit a mock exam which you set, invigilate and mark at your place. It is only when you are really sure that she can pass that you go ahead and pay the exam fees.

PS - A score of 6.5 on IELTS is not that great. I think you could do better and aim for 7.5 at the very least.

Geiorgee,

Please don't despair and see this as another chapter beginning in your life and where you end up depends on how positively you respond to the current situation.

The first thing you should do from today is to adjust your lifestyle to the current reality.  You shouldn't live as if you have a steady income from the bank and I will question putting N300k into house rent when you don't know where your next income is coming from.

Next, I will suggest you make your close family and friends aware of the situation.  There really is no point pretending to them everything is ok and even if they can't help you getting a new job, they are your support for anything you move on to do next.

The situation could be an ideal opportunity to develop a closer bond with your fiancee, and if she really is the one for you, she will stand by you through this period.  If it was me, I will go ahead with the wedding but on a highly scaled back basis.  There really should be no need to postpone it as you have a child on the way that you need to think about.

My final advice is that you need to believe in yourself that you have the skills and talent within you to achieve anything you decide to do next.  You need to assess where opportunities might be available given your qualifications and experience, develop a plan of action and pursue that with vigour.

I was in a similar situation to you this time last year having suddenly been made redundant from a very lucrative job.  Following the principles I outlined above, I managed to secure another job within a few months, while most of my former colleagues are still looking with many still bitter from the experience.

We all once believed in morality. We all once believed in godliness. We all once believed in the existence of an unseen God and we kept His instructions. But, what can we say now. Could advancement in technology make us fool again. The Bible says a fool says in his heart that there is no God, and he will not obey Him.

Either there is advancement in technology or not. Either the inventions are turning the world upside down, this truth ever stands: The standard of our God cannot be changed. It will be too unfortunate for the nobel prize winner who is in support of same-sex marriage to discover that he has lived his entire life on the wrong side of life after he's left here.

But my sincere prayer is this: God will my mercy save his soul and every other individual who has lost their faith, morality, integrity and all God's demands of lifestyles.

The problem with religious goons is that they claim to know everything simply because of their affiliation to religion. Religious goons claim to know who made man, who a man should have s-ex with and/or what position, where a man will go when he/she dies; it is this singular attribute which they often boast about that makes them look and sound laughable and farcical.

What right has religion/religious goons to dictate to humanity what morality means?! They know absolutely nothing about morality, all the monotheistic religions are blatantly immoral; the past and most recent history of all monotheistic religions are paved with the sorrow, tears, and blood of millions of innocent souls. Religion is in no position to dictate what actions are deemed to be moral and vice versa.

This is exactly the same attitude that Boko Haram has.

They not only reject western civilization for themselves and their children but claim it's their religious duty to bomb and kill you and your children if you don't accept the same values too!
Politics / Re: Cleric Faults Soyinka Over Same-sex Marriage by Torombo(m): 7:36pm On Dec 22, 2011
I think what Soyinka is saying isn't about supporting or not supporting g8ys but whether it should be an issue of criminal law and hence asking Senators to go back to school.

Adultery and fornication are also abhorrent to our cultural and religious values but I don't hear many people clamouring to make them criminal offences.  The problem here is about saying that something should be a crime (sending someone to prison if found guilty) because we find it objectionable on moral, cultural or religious grounds.  This is dangerous because where do we stop?  Do we send someone to jail for lying to their wife or husband?

Criminal law should only apply where a person's action affects someone else that doesn't give their consent.  Theft, corruption, assault, murder clearly falls within that remit.  What two consenting adults do in their bedroom shouldn't as long as there is no coersion involved, under-aged or assault on public decency.

If sending g8ys to prison could eradicate homos3xuality, then you wouldn't still have it in western countries.  Up till less than 50 years ago, G8ys were regularly jailed in the UK and USA.  The famous writer, Oscar Wilde and Alan Turing, who invented computers are 2 examples.

Wow, there we go again, arguing over irrelevant things. Doesn't it bother us, that even with our so called 'knowledge' and grasp of the word of God, we are still the most unwholesome country on the planet? We are just busy arguing like the Pharisees, Sadducees and people like Peter who wanted to stand by the law (when he suggested that gentiles can not be saved?). These symbolic things like Baptism are not in themselves what will save a Christian. The symbolic pouring of water (as in infant baptism) or immersion (as in adult baptism) are not in themselves acts that will save you. Baptism as Christ envisioned it is a personal relationship with God. As long as you believe in Jesus, accept him as your Lord and Savior, you are saved (irrespective of whether you went about getting immersed in water or not). My point is: Salvation, the kind that gets one to heaven, does not come by either sprinkling of water or immersion. You can do either and still lose heaven. Salvation comes by establishing a relationship with God and living out his grace. Just do this and you won't need the water immersion, the water sprinkling or the age factor.

Completely agree with you, but,

I don't see you condeming those who carry out infant or adult baptism too!

I pray that you recieve the Grace of better maturity as a christian so you can stop committing the sin of condemnation.

“Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.” James 4:11
Religion / Re: Why Infant Baptism Should Stop! by Torombo(m): 8:01pm On Nov 27, 2011
I don't understand why people like the poster, who professes to be christian, spend their time condemning what they don't like about the practice of other christians rather than seeking for God's discernment over their own beliefs.

There is no verse in the bible that says, ‘You must baptize infants'.  Similarly, there is no verse that says, ‘You must not baptize infants'.

How the poster then knows that infant baptism is unblibical and therefore a sin is beyond me.  How can it be a sin to take your child to a church and profess in front of the congregation that you will raise them according to the scriptures.  If you don't believe in doing that then just don't and stop calling it sinful.

Is it biblical to post on NL?  Show me where it says so in your bible.

What is this junk you wrote?

The sure sign of having lost an argument is when you resort to abusive language. Cretin is one of such words you've obviously recently learnt. I will not even stoop to the gutter with you to respond to the disgusting comments you made in relation to my children. Those comments only evidence the quality of your progenitors.

The issue here is whether you should use criminal law to punish an act between two consenting adults, where no third party, child or vulnerable person is involved and there is no affront to public decency. My view is that it shouldn't and Nigeria has more important issues to address. You obviously don't agree and I respect your right to hold that viewpoint as long as you are not in a position to make laws that affect others.

I've asked you several times now whether your point of view is affected by the fact that you have those tendencies yourself and you are caught up in a vicious cycle of self-hatred, seeking a law to protect you from your own urges. Your refusal to deny this definitely speaks volumes.

Over and out.

Gay self-hatred

A self-hating homosexual would be a gay person who actively supports efforts to limit the civil rights of gays or either openly criticizes or openly engages in homophobic behaviour. Famous examples include Roy Cohn, Jeff Gannon, and the Mayor of Spokane, Washington Jim West. Latent homosexual tendencies, when repressed, often lead to homophobic actions.
