ladanski: on the viewport, press "N". It will bring up a panel on the right side of the viewport. Scroll down to where you see "Background Image". Tick it and select image source
Ok. Good.

Guys Pls smthing is kind of proofing difficult here....any idea on how to easily backgroud a character image on blender to model ?

Shimish: well, Maya and max have been here for a while, and most people here are in a hurry to become rich and famous in animation thus not everyone is willing to risk spending time experimenting with unchartered waters like blender. what they fail to realize is that there is a limited supply of training materials for them unlike blender. as a result there is a bottle neck effect as in only the few that are able to afford professional tutoring or materials are able to swim above the rest. that is y you will notice that most Nigerian animations are confined to a similar style and level.
anyway, this is my opinion and not a conclusive fact.
Pls you guys answered awsomely...am kind of addicted to blender. And am not moving an inch....thanks ...these are brillient answers.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 6:07pm On Dec 24, 2013
ladanski: definitely. I would have added other stuff too, (like cars in the city, people, perhaps, and even trees in the final scene but I'm working on something else at the moment. This is for a competition hosted by the user, Royver. Thanks, Shimish
Nice work Lad...though I haven't watch it..but I do know is smthing cool. Weldone..keep the blender world alive.
I need you and Shimish to speak ur mind on this.."Is seems to me that we have few blender artist than it is in maya n 3dmax regarding profesionalism...do you know the reason .like places were people pay to learn animation, they tutor them on maya.

Shimish: I've got this book "node encyclopedia" its about 2.5mb, I can email it to you if u like. I've also got Andrew Price's "wow factor" which describes in detail how to achieve a wide range of effects using nodes. unfortunately its close to 60mb and I lack the bandwidth to upload something that large sad
Pls I like, here is my email..tochiokeke10@gmail.com. Then for the wow factor do u know how I can get it as it can't be sent ? Thanks
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 10:38pm On Dec 21, 2013
Shimish: Slow down. yeah nodes are very good to work with. I can't do with them. however it is a very broad field ranging from rendering, chroma key, colour correction, compositing, material and textures, depth of field, masking, etc. would be easier if u showed me what u r trying to achieve so that I can put u through. that way, u will understand the logic.
Slow downhuh grin ...though am not in a rush, but I wish I av achieved much on blender base on its manipulation things.anyway i av being using node to add glitter on a mesh also glare and bluring too.just a minor practise. But is there a basic principle?
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 9:56pm On Dec 21, 2013
ladanski: node-compositing is basically photoshop-made-easy. You can use the filters to achieve effects like depth-of-field, use the color nodes for color corrections, distortions for camera movements (zoom, rotate...), and you can seperate elements to various layers so you can make slight changes later on on selected layers only, thereby saving time.
Thanks Lan....what can you say on filter, vector and converter.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 4:49pm On Dec 21, 2013
@Shimish.....i think node composting is the koko for blender,...you can achieve a lot with it./but learning it is cumbersome i must confess. and blender guru has the complete tutorials wit prize tags on it. making it difficult for people like us to get it.i cant say how good you are on node editing but if you can give me some guild lines on the steps and the things to have in mind before using the node editor...only if you can. Thanks

Yah exactly.

Shimish: I prefer not using quick effects. I rather use the main fluid simulator. make ur default cube the domain, make an icosphere your fluid and make the cup an obstacle
Thanks a lot.....do you know the easiest way to unparent a mesh?
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 6:59pm On Dec 14, 2013
when ever i click quick effect it happens,....also when baking.also i make sure i have a new cache before baking with my work saved too.

@shimish...my fluid simulation is always busting out of the cup is time i click bake....do yo know what might be the problem?
the fluid is always leavin the content to stay under the cup.

from the "m"wink
is cool... have seen it.that must have taken lots of time.

Shimish: @ Tos87, as far as I'm concerned ladanski hit the nail on the head. although I won't advice jumping into nodes until u know the logic behind them just like ladanski
Shimish n ladanski thanks.
Shimish whatsup with that your animation you are working on.....is there a way we can view it at list know is from one of us it will serve as a moral booster. what do u think?
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 7:14pm On Dec 08, 2013
Tos87: thanks Ladanski...i always leave my default compositor node,i dont touch it...are u saying i shud add another one to d tree?...do u composite before render cos i tot is the other way round.?
ok u said animationg....i wil try that. Thanks
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 7:11pm On Dec 08, 2013
ladanski: @Tos87 Add a compositor node at the end of your node tree. The final composition/network should go into this final node. Now, go to render settings and under output, choose a path for the render output, select a format (there should be quite a few options, some for images eg jpeg, png... and some for videos eg H.263, AVI...). After all these settings, click render animation and let blender do its work. Check the directory you have chosen and you shall see the render output growing with each rendered frame. If you do not have constant power supply, select JPEG under video format so it will export each frame as a jpeg.
thanks Ladanski...i always leave my default compositor node,i dont touch it...are u saying i shud add another one to d tree?...do u composite before render cos i tot is the other way round.?
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 12:12pm On Dec 08, 2013
Shimish: could u elaborate a little more on what u mean, cos I'm not sure I follow. what is the name of the output node u used? if it is not "composite" then u won't have any rendered output. also, what do u mean by 45layers?
@shimish...sorry pls, i mean the end time is 45.so how can one save a rendered animation also after compositing an image, how can it be saved? Thats giving me hel of problem...after animating i cant save it in my pc like wise when am done compositing with node. The output node is called FILE OUTPUT,i will link it with d composite node yet i wont save d image in my pc. Pls shimish...can a node editor or compositing node be used on rendered animation?
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 7:15pm On Dec 07, 2013
Shimish: @ Tos87 here are some screen shots from books of how its done. you can either draw them or use real life photographs of the character or person u want to model. use a program like Corel or photoshop place them together so that the features of the front and side views align. on the tab found on the right hand side of the 3d view, there is an option to load background image, which u can use to bring in ur image as a wall paper. if u can't find the tab, press N to switch it on.
thanks Boss this was so mush helpful. now i understand though i anticipated that.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m):
Shimish: @Tos87 u can improve your render look by first changing the material specularity shader of your character to zero so eliminate the shine of its surface (unless u r OK with the shine) secondly u can use a point light or sun light with ray trace enabled for shadows. lastly, on the world settings enable ambient occlusion and environmental lighting ( which u can set to white or sky colour/texture)

@Bluemagnificent, nice work. did you use camera tracking for your scene?
@shimish....thanks alot, i have taken note of that.....i did one animated design today,...it took like 6hrs to complete the 45layers during rendering process....thank God for the steady power. @shimish,..u know what, i started wondering how long it took you to complete that you 11mins animation cos when mine of 45layers just finished in a sec.but i am having problem saving it. that also happens each time i composite any image. i find it difficult to save even when i add the file output node i still cant find it in my save loc. do ypu have any solution to dis..i did google it but the answer i got was not satisfying.@bluemag...Nice work bluemag smiley smiley smiley

Shimish: @Toss87 yes I model my characters myself. been modeling for a long time now. would be glad to be of assistance. do u know that blender has its own in built full rig?
you mean amature rigging? cos thats what am using or is there another which i dont know?
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 11:08am On Dec 04, 2013
At shimish- pls do you model your characters yourself? Considering when you started I guess you should by now. Am also learning rigging with a borrowed character hoping to animate it soon...I will be keeping you posted with my progress. I av some video tutorials am working with too and is helpful.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Tos87(m): 7:29pm On Dec 03, 2013
Shimish: @Tos87, trust me, u can do without cloth simulation for now. there r many ways of cheating your way out. try studying the Captain Scarlet animated series; u will realize that no cloth simulation was used on any of the characters. their clothes are just meshes sharing the same armature with the character. if I were you, I would focus more on texturing to create folds on clothes. I'm using a 64 bit HP elite book workstation with 2gig nvidia quadro dedicated graphic card and 16gig ram, but yet I use cloth simulation only when it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
thanks man,....wished i can meet you in person....are you suggesting that i should upgrade my ram?...and please how do i get that Nvida graphic card...cos i have being hearing about it .. thanks.
