Sorry sir if I may ask , what year is your vehicle and how much have you given him for the clearing as at when he started the process , that will let us know the different , how much were you charged cos I dnt know if he charged you based on normal compromise value from Valuation or below the Value, we work with different system as a clearing agent sir.

It depends on the terminal and the shipping line but as it is , it’s underage and charges for underage vehicle are differ from the others With
Normal years, you should be ready to clear it for
500-530k including the central Charges for underage by the customs.

Use the total duty and divide the surface duty what you get is 1.380.502 .I am very sure. I just paid a duty last week.

By the time you use the valuation and assessment is done the difference would be negligible . For instance I got a valuation for 2017 Camry at 1.3m as surface duty and my calculation was almost same with what came out from assessment . A difference of 742 naira.

I did asked which other vehicles are in it to give you overall calculation. You only stated a single vehicle and you wants to know what total cost of clearing would be.

Moreover, 300 surface duty gives still gives you 414,151 and not 459 as you have stated with the new exchange rate of 361 , and 280k as surface gives you 386,541.00 . I stand to be corrected on my calculation . At times most containerized jobs has other people's vehicles in it and not for an individual. Terminal charge has been factored in same with other customs expenses and likewise the other vehicles in it will have their duty spread as well as other charges .

Yes . It behoves on me to have asked the Terminal /command . Most containerized are either TICT terminal, port and cargo or SDV Terminal depending on the transire being done .

I guess your calculating with 1.38 instead of 1.53,

It seems 1.38 was in use when customs exchange rate was still in 326 including 7.5 VAT, but in the face of 361 new dollar rate , this has paved way for changes in the calculating duty ratio, I think it has changed to 1.53 with the VAT increament inclusive Sir @ aspiring , please do find out , I dare not oppose your calculations as we are bound to keep learning everyday from each other Sir.

Surface duty would be 300k

Total duty 414,012.50

And if the surface duty should be 300k then the total duty should be 459,000 cos on my calculation here, it can be giving 280k as a surface duty and the total duty will be 428,000 and 650k will clear it out but it will be okay to know whqt other vehicles are coming with it and what terminal cos we don’t treat containerised vehicles the way it’s been treated on RoRo.

So I finally got my car cleared last Thursday. The ship arrived west Africa around Easter but took more than one month to berth due to Corona virus.

Note: I did bid online for this Benz myself through Auction Export website. I joined live auction and won the bid. Many Nigerians are online bidding on these sites including copart.

Auction Export handled everything including shipping until vessel arrive Lagos. Comes with some service costs as expected.

After much negotiations with some clearing agents especially with regards to what they will pay as Duty, we eventually settled for 1.2m (duty was to be 700k + Vat etc to make 966k).

Beforw the ship berth, BOOM Nigerian Customs increased their dollar exchange rate I think from 326 to 361.

I first gave the agent 1.2m to proceed and after he paid the duty, he sent me the receipt generated from GTBank and there was an additional 105k in payments due to the increase in dollar rate. (He paid duty 776k add vat and others it came 1,070,500)

Eventually what I paid for clearing is 1,305,000 Naira for this 2011 Mercedes Benz C300.

Car came in via Roro Grimaldi.
There was no theft.
End of story.

Secondly , the clearing cost in Nigeria here will depends on the shipping line it’s coming with and the terminal where it would be allocated and assigned for delivery , but in my own experience as a clearing agent , It’s should be between 600k-800k

Not yet for now aside from the recent increament in VAT Since February and increase in custom exchange rate from 326-361 which was early this month. But I’m just having an info from one of my Colleague at Tincan island that , it’s possible to be an increas in customs exchange rate again from 361-380 which I’m not praying it should happen .

Yes Sir on this , the shipping cost from America depends on the shipping line you are using and there nearness to your location of pickup , the shipping cost ranges from $800upward . You can contact your shipper up there for more clarification , there is Sallaum and Grimaldi.

On this Sir, it depend on your choice

It can be clear for 1.250 , That’s if you want to pay full compromise duty surface duty on it will be within 715-775, while on total duty will be 980k excluding shipping charges and Runnings if you pay 1.250 for clearing . So it will go for 1.250m With other runnings charges.

It can also be clear for 980k but we call it short payment clearing , if you think you can afford the price above , you can go for it and if you think it’s too high for U, you can consider the price below . Venza is a big car just know that Sir and the model it carrying .


Hope you can see the different in the clearing charges between the two quotes , you can work out the differences and work on it .

It’s 07 Rx350 , it’s normal job and currently surface duty giving on it is 256 base one 361 new dollar rate multiply by 1.38 , that’s the way of calculating the 7.5 VAT, 256 multiply by 1.38 , check the total duty , it’s will give us 355 , adding shipping charges of 75000, print at Destination- 20000, customs releasing and gate with Valuation- 50000,plus other running’s attached. So what ar we saying sir.

I don't know when the unit will arrive Lapis arrow is expected to discharge it at cotonou and another vessel i don't know is expected to bring it to lagos. Lapis arrow got to cotonou i think 3rd May.

Good day house, as we are aware Lapis arrow is said to discharge all units at cotonou and advice vessel to pick up to lagos.

Please, 1. does anyone here have updates about this and if anyone has units on it?

2. I have been forwarded the release "print at destination" with Lapis arrow as the vessel on it, is this valid considering another vessel will discharge it in lagos or another release will be issued?
