not a bad price for its worth
one cant compare the price of apples to oranges .. I think
brand new is $795.00

Anyone know of any app/software that I can use to get better information from the MPP solar GK series? The watchpower mobile app is quite basic, can't even access historical data/graph through it.

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by totalgreen01: 5:33pm On Jul 20, 2019
very correct, it's like it as a stabilizer built in.. my phed voltage was about 200v but the inverter was giving out 220v very cool

i will test the "AC-DC-AC conversion" .. but for off-grid guys or non-prepaid guys, it does not matter

mank1234:

Yeah. It's zero. My dream inverter. Major appeal is that between mains input voltage of between 100 and 270v you get same output of 220v; that is if you dont use bypass mode. No need for voltage regulator.

However, I read comments that it consumes more than 100w when on mains due to the AC-DC-AC conversion (double conversion loss). Not really a problem as our electricity tarrif is low.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
This is a 4-5kw unit yes? I am interested to see how the unit performs when switching say a 3.5kw load from mains to inverter battery.

The question is whether or not one will experience lagless transfer and no failure when switching a large load on a regular basis?

just tested the mppsolar PIP5048MK
very cool device..

ZERO TRANSFER TIME is really ZERO.. no delay at all

idle time as tested is approx 65w

hi,
nice inverter, I have the MK in the post
what is the idle watt on this inverter

thanks

duwdu:
The summary of this post:

I've had a battle scare with my PIP-5048GK transformerless with battery-less-support inverter I just installed during the early hours of yesterday; but it's all good now.

How it went:

I had been on my brand new 24v 3KW/4KVA VIL Power Star-Light inverter for just under a year, using the 1.8KW max PV loadable on it out of my available 3.2KW. Then the bugger crapped out on me two days ago, in the dead of the evening. The seller wouldn't provide support, stating that the original merchant went under, or something to that effect. Meanwhile, I'm totally off grid and the past two days have had autonomy weather forced on my part of Lagos...

So, I was forced to have to install and deploy my PIP during the very early hours of yesterday, even as I was not quite ready with the PIP (still expecting the second of two 600/800vdc SPD's I learnt would be ideal for the system, one each by the PV array and inverter ends, particularly if the distance between is considerable.)

I went ahead anyways and also reconfigured all of my 10 PV's in series for a possible combined 400V, or thereabout. I also reconfigured my meager 4.8KWh of batteries to 48 volts. Then waited for dawn — and the sun — to show, starting from the next hour.

At about 7:30am, and without any batteries connected whatsoever, the PIP came to life with about 100 watts of power. No load yet, of course, because of the still sun-starved weather. It was beautiful, a successful test of the battery-less feature of the unit. Of course I would have to charge my batteries once the weather improved...what with the past two days of forced autonomy from the glorious sun!

Fast forward about two hours. I proceeded to shut down the sweet system, then installed the batteries. About ten minutes after system restart with batteries now in, the system started bleeping hysterically and shut down...there had been a fault with the fan! (Attached.) The system wouldn't stay back on and consistently beeped and threw "Fault 01 - Fan is locked when the inverter is off." According to the User Manual, the solution was to "Replace the fan."! I entered panick mode...

At about 2pm, I quickly wrote to MPPSolar, describing the problem and lamenting 'how embarrassing the unit became within the first two hours of its deployment and that how could that be? Please rush me a replacement fan, expectedly in addition to other urgent remedies you may suggest. Thank you.' Of course Taiwan had by then closed for the day and gone to bed; I'll have to wait another day...

Still in panick mode, I got in touch with an occasional but very reliable supplier on here, asking for a low price "túké-túké" 48v inverter? (Oh Lord, I'll have to reconfigure my panels again for a max 150v system?!) But there was none. And so I went to bed last night, power-hungry.

I woke up this morning to a waiting email response to me from MPPSolar in Taiwan. Ọpẹ́ o. One of the steps I was advised to take was see whether there had been an obstruction to the normal operation of the fan by some internal wiring harness? I quickly jumped on that one.

What I saw was that, in the process of installing the batteries' +ve lead into the inverter, I had inadvertently worked a clear acrylic flap adorning the top of the fan housing, INTO the fan housing, thereby obstructing the normal movement/rotation of the fan! By 8am, I had corrected the issue and the F01 fault was cleared. The PIP-5048GK has been flawless ever since. (Screenshot attached.)

Morals of the story:

My brethren, please know what you're doing while DIY'ing. The specs for some of our gadgets are precision based, even if the manufacturer has not specifically stated so. In this my specific case, the wire girth specified 38mmsq. I crimped the 50mmsq cables I had at hand and sort of worked them in. After all, one wire gauge up will be even better for carrying current, right? Well, I applied this teaching in a half educated manner and paid with aggravation.

So please be guided as necessary.

Good luck, folks, and thanks for all the education and help on here and elsewhere.

I disagree on that. He's charging within limits. Just that things can go wrong without warning. And with the low drain rate, imbalance is unlikely too. That doesn't mean his contraption is safe

While on this rechargeable fan issue.
The batt in mine crapped out.scoured the market..no luck.
Saw on AliExpress..but price is high and shipping another wahala.
This is a lithium battery, so does it imply that the fan has an internal bms??.
Am guess 3 cells in series..and probably 1 or 2 has died.the fan rarely worked up to 2hrs when fully charged....unlike it's lead acid brothers angry

Who can help me get a replacement??

i can build on for u, but i am far away at akwaibom - lagos guys can help, i am guessing you are in lagos

I think some cells were dead before I started using them cos I didn't throw any cell away from the dead laptop battery as I have no means of testing anything.

Also, I only charge it for 5hours whenever it needs to be recharged which is mostly once in a week cos I only use the fan at night when there is no nepa light for the ceiling fan and that 5hours charge can carry me for about 5 nights at average speed before the fan stops working and needs to be recharged.

I have been doing it that way for 3 months plus now. Unless if charging it for the 5hours can raise the battery voltage above the 12.6v maximum. But, the battery has never for once gotten hot. Can it still explode without getting hot?

Where do I get a volt display so I can always put it off when it gets to about 12.4V? Or is there any device I can connect to it that would automatically stop charging once the volt gets to the 12.4V?

mr kiekie can help with volt display

Is the BMS the small board inside the laptop battery? I always cut it off and throw away. I'm a newbie in this.

There is no way I can know if it's fully charged or not so i stop charging after 5hours regardless of if it's fully charged or not. Then use it till its completely down before recharging for 5hours again.

"completely down" you are killing the life cycles as well.... what voltage is "completely down"?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by totalgreen01: 7:01am On Jun 13, 2019

What is BMS?

Well, below is the strange way I connected lithium batteries from "dead laptop batteries" to my rechargeable fan. The fan can now blow at very high speed for more than 24hours non stop. It's been working like that for 3 months now, no issues at all and I didn't use BMS anywhere.

I will never use that rubbish they call battery that came with the fan again! I wondered why they use the battery in the first place. Something that barely blows for 5 hours at the lowest speed. angry

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE i dey beg u, that setup is waiting to explode.. your fan is 12volt i guess, u are using 3 in series as early said, so the lithium at full will only allow 12.6v, but your charger will go up to 13v or so, you might lucky so far cause maybe the bank is large so the battery never gets to full depending on the charger ..... I beg help yourself. if you still want to go the rugged way, put a volt display so you can monitor and shut it down when it reaches about 12.4v... but no be me advice u o... another problem u might face is when on bat dies out and the charger is still trying to meet up 12v, imagine trying to push 12v into 7.4v cause one has failed...

i can help u, if u send the bat to me, i will rebuild it with a bms so u can go out of your home in peace...

From my little experience, each pack in series puts out the total current draw and a fraction of the voltage. This means that the each 1s80p you have will put out 3.7v (nominal) and 60A (BMS capacity) and the 14s will put out 14x3.7v, 60A.

Your small wires are still good though as each cell will put out 60A/80cells which is less than 1A.

You are very correct...

my earlier explanation was based on the wrong cables.. sorry about that.. to make it clear

the tiny red cables are used strictly for balancing .. meaning discharging the pack whenever the pack reaches full to stop it from overcharging.. current is not pulled from them to serve the inverter.

hope that helps

thanks

will do

but finally I am getting the Batrium BMS, just wanted to make sure the Li-ion works before spending $600 on BMS

but I am heavily impressed, I have used different bat over the years, but Li is light years ahead, i ran 2 a/c and just dropped a volt and half

how would you know, if one batt or even a couple of batts go bad??, in your bank, how many need to go back before the effect becomes noticeable

nice question

when u notice that a bank is always getting full meaning reaching the 4.2v before others all the time, then u should suspect and eyeball the fuses and check for fuse cut, I would just run a continuity test with my meter, faster that way

Wow. What's the total capacity of your set up and how many s (series). Hope you are using a good BMS, preferably Batrium.
Proud of you.

Let me tell you some observations and suggestions;
1. Those wires to individual batteries are too thin, you need thicker wires.
2. Arrange your wires in a more orderly manner. It's safer and neater.
3. Look towards using spot welding. Soldering degrades li-ion batteries and sometimes loosens creating weak joints.

1. I see ur point, but in this se0tup it's not required cause I am passing thru 60A BMS, for 14s each will do a max of 4.2amps which is fine for such tiny cables..... I ran my A/C last night the cable was not even warm

2. will do, just running a test last night thanks for the observation

3. I do have a spot welder, and I have been welding for a while now, only on very small packs... u should NOT do spot welding on such large packs, in fact NEVER spot weld your large packs, for Li-Ion if one cell goes bad(short-circuit ) then like me you will kill all 80cells in the pack, I had to fuse all the cells, but another option is to spot-weld the fuse which is too tedious for an old eye like mine

thanks, I do appreciate your suggestions and observations

i think you are a lil confused, the installer must have used 6mm for positive, then 6mm for negative
THE chart shows you need 16mm at 3% loss, i would advice you to split your panels into 2 sets of 6 panels each 3s2p, used a 10mm dual armoured cable to run each string, and used a combiner box or properly sized circuit breakers to marry/terminate both strings.
zeestone and kiekie have such cables in stock...
http://www.solar-wind.co.uk/cable-sizing-DC-cables.html

finally at this stage, it should be obvious to you that your installer doesnt have a clue of what he is doing, get an installer from this forum to go qaqc ur setup and modify it accordingly, zeestone /frankie/ niyi etc are ever ready

Take note ... Cabling for MPPT is not the same sizing as PWM... with MPPT cables are smaller, so check for sizing for MPPT..

Hello good people of this forum, please, I urgently need a link to buy Tesla power wall here in Nigeria.

I've tried some companies including PSC solar, they don't have in stock.

I would really appreciate a link to buy it here or to get it directly from the company abroad.

Any help is highly appreciated.

PS: if there is any other alternative of comparable quality to the power wall, I'd like to know.

Thanks in advance

hi,
are u looking for Tesla bat or "Tesla power wall", Tesla power wall is not a "stand-alone" thus cannot use it in Nigeria, I don't think we run a grid system yet?, so i am guess u looking at Tesla Bat ripped out of Tesla car, if u are interested i can source it for u outside the country,
