Protesters Storm Warehouse, Cart Away Rice, Noodles In Abia

Hundreds of #EndSARS protesters on Saturday stormed a warehouse at the Health Centre Road, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia and allegedly carted away bags of rice and cartons of indomie noddles starched in the warehouse.

The warehouse said to belong to a top politician and Senator and being used by the state government to store some items, was also vandalized. However, in a swift reaction to the incident, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu said the content of the warehouse were bags of fertilizer.

Describing the breakage of the place to hunt for palliatives as ”a task in futility”, the Information Commissioner maintained that no palliatives of rice or indomie was kept there. But a witness told our Correspondent that some protesters were rushing out the warehouse with 25 kg of bags of rice and cartons of indomie noddles.

Said Okiyi Kalu, “We received reports that some palliative hunters mobilized and broke into a private warehouse located in Umuahia in search of palliatives purportedly stored there by Abia State Government.

“Only those who are not well informed will embark on such fruitless search as the state government shared all palliative materials to the people during and after the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic including the items procured by the state government and donations received from well meaning individuals and corporate entities. Eight rounds of palliatives were shared in Abia through religious organizations, traditional authorities, state geriatric services agency, specialized groups and local government authorities.

“We do not have any grain of rice or food item left in our warehouse as at today. That is why the government went to the market to procure the palliatives distributed to some victims of the #EndSARS protest yesterday, as can be confirmed from the video we shared.

“It is unfortunate that a private warehouse was attacked this morning with bags of fertilizer and rice seedlings carted away by unidentified hoodlums.

“Our best hope is that those who carted away the bags of fertilizers and rice seedlings at least plant the seeds and use the fertilizers to nurture them to yield food for our people. Otherwise, they should immediately return everything to the warehouse without fear of consequences.

“It is good to acknowledge the actions of people living in a particular house near the location of the private warehouse who promptly turned back an individual that carted”.

The commissioner used the opportunity to announced the relaxation of the curfew imposed by the state government to contain the protests in the state, saying that

from tomorrow, (today) Sunday, “our people are free to go out from 6am to 6pm and return to their homes to allow security agents mop up and dislodge the hoodlums that have invaded our state”.

His word, “As soon as it is safe to do so, Abia State Government will remove the whole movement restrictions but we must all be committed to protecting our neighborhoods and places of business”.

Hello Jagaban's die-hard! First thing first, I am a core Yoruba but I am no fan of any political office holder whether past or present. The point I was making was that as a notable figure in Yoruba land and having been fingered as a mastermind of the shooting in question, he was not supposed to have made such callous and nonchalant statements at a time when the situation was still burning. Imagine a man rumored to be gunning for presidency come 2023 talking like that! Dude, if members of his family were to be among the victims of that dastardly act, would he have been saying such?
No sir!
You can't be yoruba with the level of reasoning and logic that lacks critical thinking you've just displayed.

We are known to reason locally, critically devoid of ear says, emotion, and illogical analysis. You are one of the liberalists and sophisticated types that often sell us to an outsider, such as you are easily manipulated and instigated against your own and her people's interests. Your land and region were almost burnt to ashes and all her infrastructures almost invaded and razed down.

I feel pity to have such like you among us.

Just take a look at the bolded, what you wrote above, may I asked how you came about the conclusion and the info you wrote up there? Of course, it's on trending twitter, of course many peoppe are saying it, ibos says it, news carry am sef, no be so?

lol, you are protecting your criminal?

and you said it with such force and power

na wa for naija, it's just sad.

On one had you admit that someone is a criminal, then you still support him because of xyz

Do you also support evil because of xyz...

The way Nigerians reason is the reason the country is the way it is. Or do you think it's a mistake that all these negative qualifiers are attached to Nigeria?

#PovertyCapital, #CorruptionCentral #ExtremePoliceBrutality #PoorElectricity #419...

It's because of people like you who will always support evil for whatever reason and then turn around and expect that evil to somehow transform your society. MADNESS!

Now you will start asking for my tribe. This is why I pray Nigeria separates, so that the majority tribe can at least convict their corrupt leaders without using other tribes as an excuse.

Disgusting really!

Next, you will tell me to also condemn some other evil politician, like I supported them in the first place.

Left to me, you can put them all in Jail! Are you happy? NO! Because no matter what, you will still find a reason (xyz) to support evil.

God forbid.
And if I may ask, how many of your Peter obi have you burn down his investments, houses and properties?

Let's start from there. Shm. Charity begins at home. You want to instigate us against our own and spare yours? You all must think we are foolish and robots?

Yoruba has incredibly turned around to blame Igbos for destroying Lagos. A fight we started together for our collective gain, you then turn around to blame your comrade. One can't even trust Yoruba in a revolution. A revolution o.
