Another neighbour, Mrs Omotayo, said the late Falilat Yusuf, who sold potatoes, had earlier abandoned her shop following threats and rising tension.

A 17-year-old boy, identified only as Malik, has allegedly stabbed his mother's co-wife, Falilat Yusuf, to death in Gaa Akanbi area of Ilorin, Kwara State's capital.

The incident occurred shortly after congregational Friday prayers, according to neighbours. A local who requested anonymity stated: "A woman was stabbed to death in her house. I'm unsure of the exact time, but it was around 2:00 p.m. when I heard screaming and people rushing to the scene. The victim, known as Iya Ganiyat, was stabbed multiple times on the neck by a young man - the son of her husband's other wife."

Malik was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning. The victim's husband, Alhaji Gani, is reportedly cooperating with investigations.

When Daily Trust visited the scene of the crime on Sunday, residents said Malik, whose mother is said to be the intended second wife of the deceased woman's husband, had lived in the same neighbourhood, though in a different house also rented by their mutual husband.

Teslim, one of the sons of the deceased, said Malik had been warned not to visit their home due to recurring incidents of theft. He said he encountered him outside their compound on the day of the incident, making suspicious hand gestures.

"The moment our eyes met, he ran away. When I entered the house, I found my mother in a pool of blood. I raised an alarm that attracted the neighbours and family members.

"Malik returned shortly after, having changed his clothes. Traces of blood were found on his shoes before he was apprehended and handed over to the police."

Another neighbour, Mrs Omotayo, said the late Falilat Yusuf, who sold potatoes, had earlier abandoned her shop following threats and rising tension.

The deceased has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Ejire Adeyemi Adetoun, did not confirm or deny the incident but requested for a message.

At least you know where she lives. Take her to court, her inability to enroll those kids into a public school is enough for the court to grant you full custody of your kids ( that's if you want to) when next you are visiting, take them to a police station and make sure you have enough evidence to back your claim in court.

A reunion was organized and those in diaspora joined us via zoom. It's interesting and entertaining. It's true that 20 children can't continually play for 20 years.

Some men do want to be present fathers, but the problem is their bitter ex wives who keep looking for a reason to pick a fight with them whenever they try to keep in touch with their children.

You'd hear a lady still picking up a fight over things that happened years ago whenever the father of her children tries to make amends with her for the sake of their children without necessarily getting back together with her... In as much as some men can be useless fathers by deciding to disown their children as a way to punishing their ex wives upon divorce, others are trying, but the problem is this gender of ours that keeps pushing them away.

Co- parenting is still a foreign practice in most parts of Africa as the parents are unable to put their sentiments of each other aside by doing what is in the best interest of the children ... They're selfish.

This the the problem I'm facing. After divorce, I want to be paying school fees and some other stuufs but I was not allowed, they denied me access to both the wife and children. The funniest part is that these people are so poor. The children are not in school. I'm not even asking for the custody of the children because of their age.

I had gone to IBADAN from ILORIN 5 times and I was denied access. I have been calling or sending messages but they ignored.

Just to enroll the children in PUBLIC SCHOOLS and I wil be sending the SCHOOL FEES to the teachers or principal and HM. THEY DENIED ME A COMPLETE ACCESS
