Mzleemah:
Let me rant jare

Went for antenatal today, doctor measured my tummy and said it measuring 30wks instead of 34weeks i have to do scan to confirm everything is okay but he told me to wait till the week of my nxt antenatal (2 weeks time) , i am just praying everything goes well.
As if that is not enough went to lagos to baby shop, the rain just decided not to stop. It was such an hectic day but i am happy that i have done 90% of my shopping

End of rant

No worries, Insha Allah, all is normal and fine . there will be no problems.
I also intended going to lagos for shopping after ante natal today but decided to stay back because of the rain. Sorry for the stress.

I think we should be rounding up the bag packing now... The lord is our strength. We are almost there.
Some of our Mama's will be dropping this month. May God see us through.

Lets read up this to note the signs of labour.
How can I tell when I'm going to go into labor?

There's no way to predict exactly when labor will start. And even when you notice early signs of labor, your baby's birth could still be days or weeks away.

Your body actually starts preparing for labor as much as a month before you give birth, so you may begin to notice new symptoms as your due date approaches.

Here are some early signs of labor:

Your baby "drops." If this is your first pregnancy, you may feel what's known as "lightening" a few weeks before labor starts, meaning the baby now rests lower in your pelvis. You might feel less pressure just below your ribcage, making it easier to catch your breath.
You have more Braxton Hicks contractions. More frequent and intense Braxton Hicks contractions can signal prelabor, which is when your cervix starts to thin and widen, and sets the stage for true labor. (See below.) Some women experience menstrual-like cramps during this time.
Your cervix starts to change. In the days and weeks before delivery, changes in the connective tissue of your cervix make it soften and eventually thin and widen, or dilate. (If you've given birth before, your cervix is more likely to dilate a centimeter or two before labor starts, but keep in mind that even being 40 weeks pregnant with your first baby and 1 centimeter dilated is no guarantee that labor is imminent.) When you're at or near your due date, your doctor or midwife may do a vaginal exam during your prenatal visit to see whether your cervix has started to change.
You pass your mucus plug or notice "bloody show." If your cervix begins to efface significantly or dilate as you get close to labor, you may pass your mucus plug – the small amount of thickened mucus that has sealed off your cervical canal for the last nine months. The plug may come out in a lump all at one time or as an increased amount of vaginal discharge over the course of several days. The mucus may be tinged with brown, pink, or red blood, which is why it's called "bloody show." (Having sex or a vaginal exam can also disturb your mucus plug and result in some blood-tinged discharge, even when labor isn't necessarily starting any time soon.)

Signs that labor is imminent, if not already under way, include:

Your contractions become increasingly intense. Unlike Braxton-Hicks contractions, labor contractions grow stronger, longer, and more frequent as they cause your cervix to dilate.
Your water breaks. When the fluid-filled amniotic sac surrounding your baby ruptures, fluid leaks from your vagina. And whether it comes out in a large gush or a small trickle, this is a signal that it's time to call your doctor or midwife.
Most women start having regular contractions before their water breaks, but in some cases, the water breaks first. When this happens, labor usually follows soon after.

Hello #TeamAugust,

May God assist us as we are approaching our neighbouring month. Hope our bags are getting ready small by small. Despite the fact that i am guilty of not shopping yet but God is our strength oooo.

I want us to note some things now as we are all in our third trimester. Kindly read through.........

This trimester is all about preparing for your new baby. Now’s the time to have fun stocking up on baby clothes and equipment, and dressing your growing bump!

1. Be aware of your baby’s movements
Your baby is growing all the time, so you may notice his movements change as he gets bigger.

Every baby has a different pattern of waking and sleeping, but you’ll come to know what’s normal for yours. You should feel your baby move right up to and during labour. If you notice any change in his usual pattern, always tell your midwife or doctor straight away.

2. Learn about third trimester antenatal appointments

During your third trimester antenatal appointments, your midwife will talk to you about preparing for labour and birth, including how to recognise the first signs of labour and how to cope with labour pain.

Your midwife will measure your bump at every antenatal appointment to check your baby’s growth. If she thinks your baby needs an extra check on how he is growing, she’ll arrange for you to have an ultrasound scan.

If this is your first baby, your midwife will offer you a membrane sweep at your 40-week antenatal appointment. If this doesn’t kick-start your labour, she’ll offer you another sweep at 41 weeks and talk to you about induction.

If you’ve had a baby before, your midwife will offer you a sweep at 41 weeks.

3. Be aware of pregnancy symptoms you should never ignore
Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy condition that is thought to happen when the placenta isn’t working properly. It can happen from 20 weeks of pregnancy, but it's most likely to develop in the third trimester.

Your midwife will look out for the signs of pre-eclampsia when you have your routine antenatal checks. Symptoms include high blood pressure and protein in your wee.

Although the tests your midwife carries out are the most effective way to pick up developing pre-eclampsia, it’s worth being aware of the symptoms. Between appointments, watch out for severe headaches, blurred vision, vomiting or nausea and swollen hands and feet. Call your doctor or midwife immediately if you notice any of these symptoms and read our guide to other pregnancy symptoms you should never ignore.

4. Eat well
Eating well at this stage of pregnancy is important for your health and your baby’s health. Try to eat plenty of iron-rich food, which helps you to make red blood cells. Your baby will take iron stores from your body so he won’t run short, but you might.

Boost your iron intake by having meals with iron sources, such as lean meat, leafy greens and fortified cereal in your diet. Have a glass of orange juice with your meals to help your body to absorb iron. See our iron slideshow for easy ways to include iron in your diet.

5. Do some stretches
Now is a good time to learn stretches that will loosen up your body ready for your baby’s birth. These third trimester stretches will give you some ideas and help to ease any pregnancy aches and pains.

Even the occasional stretch and wiggle can help you avoid pregnancy niggles such as leg cramps. Just get moving and stretching!

6. Talk to your baby
Your baby can hear your voice now, and talking to him is a great way to start the bonding process. If having a conversation with your bump seems a bit odd, try reading a book, magazine, or newspaper aloud, or sing to him.

7. Learn about the stages of labour
It’s impossible to predict what your experience of labour will be like or how long it will last. But learning about what may happen can help you feel more in control when the time comes. Find out more about the three stages of labour.

8. Create a birth plan
A birth plan is a way for you to communicate your wishes to the midwives and doctors who look after you during labour. It tells them about the type of labour and birth you’d like to have, what you want to happen, and what you want to avoid. Things may not always go according to your plan, but writing one can help you to make decisions during labour.

9. Get to know your contractions
Just after the halfway point of your pregnancy, you may start to feel the muscles of your womb tighten from time to time. These contractions are called Braxton Hicks contractions. Not everyone has them though. If you do experience Braxton Hicks, make a note of how they feel and how often they happen as this may help you to distinguish them from the real signs of labour.

10. Buy clothes for your baby
Think about clothes, bedding and other essentials, such as nappies, that your baby will need. Buy the basics before he’s born and put aside some money to buy more later.

Bear in mind that you’re likely to get lots of clothing from friends and family as presents. Wash everything before use in non-biological washing powder, to avoid irritating your newborn baby’s sensitive skin.

11. Pack your hospital bag
Even if you’re not planning a hospital birth, you may need to go in unexpectedly, so it’s a good idea get your bag packed well before your due date. Our video shows what to include.

If you prefer, you could pack two bags: one for labour and the hours immediately after your baby is born, and another for a stay on the postnatal ward. Dads need bags too! Have a look at our suggestions on what your partner may need in their hospital bag.

Hello Mamas,

I am a little bit emotionally down at the moment. One of my sisters just called this morning and was crying that she lost her pregnancy again.

She is just like 8-10 weeks now. This should be the third she'll be loosing.

After she lost the second pregnancy, she went to a general hospital where they did the evacuation and told her to come immediately she got another BFP.
She did as advised and they gave her progestrone injection twice a week since 3 weeks now but just to wake up this morning to see red blood everywhere......

I am sincerly not happy...... cry cry cry

May God console her and help her situation...

Greetings to all Mama.

How are we doing.

Please, i want to address one burning issue with our Muslim mama as we are expecting the month of fasting.

please read and digest.

Is fasting safe for my baby?
There's no clear answer. Despite research, we can't be sure that fasting is safe for you and your baby.

If you're pregnant, Islamic law doesn't require you to fast. You can make up missed fasts later, or do fidyah, which is a way of compensating for your missed fasts. For example, you could make a donation to a food bank.

However, if you wish to fast, it appears to be safer for you and your baby if you feel strong, and if your pregnancy's going well.

If you don't feel well enough to fast, or are worried about your health or your baby's wellbeing, talk to your GP or midwife and get a general health check before deciding to fast.

One factor is when the fast takes place. If Ramadan coincides with summer, this means hot weather and long days, which puts you at greater risk of dehydration.
What do studies into fasting in pregnancy show?

Some studies show little or no effect on newborn babies whose mums fasted in pregnancy. Others suggest health problems later in life, or that fasting in pregnancy may have some effect on the intelligence or academic ability of a child.

Here’s what the research has told us so far:
The Apgar score of babies of women who fasted in pregnancy was no different from babies of women who didn't fast.
Fasting in pregnancy may cause a baby to have a lower birth weight, especially if the fasting took place in the first trimester. However, other studies found the difference in birth weight to be very small.
Babies born to mums who fasted either in pregnancy or at the time of conception may grow up to be slightly shorter and thinner. But again, this difference is very small.
The chemical balance of the blood changes when you fast. But the changes don't appear to be harmful to you or your baby.

There's some concern that fasting may affect how well a baby grows in the uterus (womb), or that fasting may be linked to premature labour. Some studies suggest that more babies are born early if their mums fast during Ramadan, though the country you live in also plays a part.

How will I cope with fasting?

If your weight and lifestyle are generally healthy you are likely to cope better with fasting. Your baby needs nutrients from you, and if your body has enough energy stores, fasting is likely to have less of an impact.

How your body deals with fasting will also depend on:
your general health before you became pregnant
your stage of pregnancy
the length of time you fast during the day

Fasting in the summer months is likely to be harder work for you than it would be in the winter due to the longer days and higher temperatures.

How should I prepare for fasting?

Plan ahead to make things easier during Ramadan:
Talk to your midwife, who can check your health and for any possible complications that fasting makes you more prone to, such as diabetes (gestational diabetes) and anaemia. You may need to have more frequent check-ups during your fast to monitor your blood sugar levels. Fasting is not considered to be safe if you have diabetes and are pregnant.
If you're used to having a lot of caffeinated drinks, such as coffee, tea and cola, cut back before you fast to prevent withdrawal headaches. You shouldn't have more than 200mg of caffeine a day when you are pregnant, which is about two cups of instant coffee. Remember that chocolate and green tea also contain some caffeine.
Talk to your employer about managing your work during Ramadan, whether through reducing your working hours or having extra breaks. Read more about working and fasting.
Your doctor, midwife or a dietitian can help you to work out your dietary needs.
Keep a food diary, so you know what you are eating and drinking.
Start preparing early by doing shopping and errands before you fast.

What warning signs should I look out for?
Contact your doctor as soon as possible if:
You're not putting on enough weight, or are losing weight. You probably won't be weighed during your antenatal appointments, so try to weigh yourself regularly at home while you are fasting.
You become very thirsty, are weeing less frequently, or if your wee becomes dark-coloured and strong-smelling. This is a sign of dehydration, and it can make you more prone to urinary tract infections (UTIs) or other complications.
You develop a headache or other pains, or a fever.
You become nauseous or start vomiting.

You should contact your doctor straight away if:
There is a noticeable change in your baby’s movements, such as if your baby is not moving around or kicking as much.
You notice contraction-like pains. This could be a sign of premature labour.
You feel dizzy, faint, weak, confused or tired, even after you have had a good rest. Break your fast immediately and drink water containing salt and sugar, or an oral rehydration solution such as Dioralyte, and contact the doctor.

Graciouscharis:

Which area are you looking at? I've heard of prisms at surulere. Tel no: 08055777123. No 8 oyediran street off bode Thomas. A friend used them before. There's this other one at sura shopping mall. Can't remember their name.
I used omnival at Ikeja but I won't recommend them at all. I feel scammed each time I think of them.

thanks dear....
Surulere isn't bad. Do you have idea of the price
