ABUJA- AHEAD of the Presidential and general elections slated for March 28 and April 11, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday urged the All Progressives Congress, APC to acknowledge their electoral inferiority and surrender to the will of the people, rather than plunge the country into chaos. The PDP accused the opposition of pursuing personal agenda and not that of the general interest of the Nigeria and Nigerians. In a statement signed yesterday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party said that the APC which has been confronted with the reality of failure in the 2015 general elections, has intensified what the PDP termed, the APC’s frenzied deployment of false alarms aimed at throwing the polity into chaos and wreck the electoral process. Metuh said, “Our advice to the APC is that rather than plunge our dear nation into chaos in the pursuit of their selfish interests, they should be humble enough to face reality, acknowledge their electoral inferiority to the PDP and surrender to the will of the Nigerian people. “Having been exposed in its hypocrisy, lies and empty promises, the APC in obvious frustration is now engaged in dangerous mind game using wild allegations in a bid to cause panic, balkanize the nation and create the way for a reign of anarchy in the country. “For the APC, it has become a matter of ‘if we can’t have it, then let’s destroy it’. In the last couple of weeks, this opposition party and its leaders have engaged in dishing out dangerous false alarms in a bid to discredit the electoral process, heighten tension, create fear in the minds of the people and push the polity to the brinks. “For instance, how else would one explain the false alarm by the leader of the opposition, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Thursday, March 12, 2015 alleging that there were plots to assassinate him, a phantom claim which was followed on Sunday, March 15 by the APC in a statement that there were plans to kill their Presidential flagbearer, General Muhammadu Buhari. “Also, on the same March 15, the APC in a yet another statement falsely claimed that the Federal Government paid N9 billion to ethnic militias to foment trouble, before, during and after the general elections. This was immediately followed by a release on Monday, March 16, in which the opposition, in their unrelenting effort to further discredit the process, alleged that the Federal Government has hired an Israeli expert, Gyora Berger to sabotage card readers on election day. “In the same vein, on March 4, 2015, the APC released a false alarm claiming that there were plots by the Federal Government to frame its leaders and sensitive INEC officials and manipulate the electoral process. This is in addition to another statement on March 9 in which it alleged of plots to harass its financiers and cripple its operations ahead of elections. “We are aware that the APC has lined up many of such false allegations and nuisance alarms, which would be methodologically released to the public to swell the tension as the elections draw nearer. “APC’s history of lies has become legendary. Nigerians may recall that this party in their penchant for deceit had in June 2014 alleged that a plane carrying Kano state Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso to attend a rally in Ekiti to support Governor Kayode Fayemi’s re-election bid was denied landing permission in Akure, only for Kwankwaso’s Director of Press Affairs, Baba Dantiye to announce that his boss was at another event in Kano and had no plans to travel to Ekiti state. “It is indeed clear that the APC has no positive agenda for Nigeria but on a mission to grab power at all cost, failing which it has perfected plots to unleash mayhem and destabilize the nation. “We therefore alert the entire nation, especially security agencies, electoral officials and our members to be vigilant as these allegations could indeed be a subterfuge by the APC to cover a grand plot to unbridle violence on innocent citizens.” The PDP also charged its members to remain focused on the campaigns and not allow themselves to be distracted, especially as it claimed to be enjoying the support and confidence of majority of Nigerians. The PDP restated its commitment to issue driven campaign leveraging on the enviable records of achievements of the standard bearer, President Goodluck Jonathan for which Nigerians are determined to give him a deserving second chance, while berating the APC for dwelling on lies and insults without articulating any positive programme for Nigerians. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/surrender-to-us-now-instead-of-pushing-nigeria-to-the-brinks-pdp-tells-apc/#sthash.5Og2iO4D.dpuf |

The Oodua Peoples Congress and the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in Lagos on Monday morning led other protesters to storm the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, demanding the sacking of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, before the March 28 elections. The bus of the campaign group and the members of the OPC, who massed at the 7UP/Toll Gate end of the expressway, led the protesters, who were chanting anti-Jega songs, giving reasons why Jega should be sacked. The OPC members carried guns, cutlasses, pocket knifes among other weapons, occupying one end of the busy highway while some members of the groups harassed some motorists and passers-by plying the road. Some people, who were clad in black vest, said to be beneficiaries of the SURE-P, also constituted a sizable portion of the protesters. Heavy traffic built up along the highway as the protesters, who were well protected by heavy police presence, took over one part of the road, grounding movement of other road users. The protesters took time to distribute leaflets containing seven reasons why the INEC boss should be sacked. The leaflet also contained what the OPC described as the achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan and why the President should be re-elected. The protesters are said to be on their way to the National Stadium, Surulere, through the Ikorodu Road, where they will hold a rally. The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Friday protested in Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, among other locations in the South-East, calling for the immediate removal of Jega. On Sunday, the All Progressives Congress alleged that it had uncovered a plot by its Peoples Democratic Party counterpart to fund ethnic militias to protest and demand Jega’s sacking. It added that such ethnic militias included the OPC. Details later… http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-campaigners-lead-anti-jega-protest-in-lagos/ |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has exposed the plan by the Jonathan Administration and the PDP to render card readers ineffective on election day, with a view to justifying their fears about the use of the card readers and ultimately to scuttle the polls. ”We can authoritatively inform Nigerians that the morbid fear of card readers by the Jonathan Administration and the PDP has now been translated into concrete action: They have hired an Israeli, Gyora Berger, to do the dirty job of jamming the card readers,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. ”To those who might accuse us of crying wolf, they should realize that every alarm we have raised in the past has been true, including that the Jonathan Administration was pushing for the postponement of the elections and that they are mortally afraid of the use of PVCs and card readers APC said the Israeli was hired specifically to develop three prototype card reader jammers, and he has now developed three of such jammers (25 metres, 50 metres and 100 metres range) to be carried in the pockets of trusted PDP stalwarts on election day with a view to disabling the card readers within the state radius. The party said that apart from disabling the card readers, the jammers will also disable all telephones, iPads, etc within the states radius of those carrying them on their persons. It said an an order has been placed for 75,000 pieces of the jammers at a cost of 200 US dollars per piece, bringing the total cost to 15 million dollars. The jammers will be air freighted to Nigeria next week. ”The plan is to deploy the card jammers to the areas deemed to be the strongholds of the APC, such as the North-west, North-east , North-central and the South-west. ”It is the planned procurement of the jammers that have given the confidence to the Administration and party officials to continuously boast that Buhari will never rule Nigeria, and also the reason why a chieftain of the PDP boasted last week that the card readers won’t work, thus advising INEC to make alternative arrangements,” APC said. The party said the Israeli, who has agreed to do the dirty job for a desperate Jonathan Administration and the PDP, is an enemy of Nigeria and Nigerians, who does not mind if the nation burns, as long as he has collected his pay for the dirty job for which he has been hired. It said because the opposition party has become a movement which is being propelled by the people themselves, it is difficult, if not impossible, for the Jonathan Administration and the PDP to succeed in their devilish intentions of rigging, sabotaging or scuttling the forthcoming polls. ”We have consistently said power resides in the people, irrespective of what the government of the day might think. When the people are determined to vote out any government, no amount of money, evil plots and shenanigans can save that government, as the Jonathan Administration will find out in two weeks,” APC said. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/apc-exposes-plan-by-jonathan-govt-to-sabotage-card-readers-on-election-day/#sthash.pDruIFKC.dpuf |
