Christianity Etc › Re: Is It A Sin Not To Attend Sunday Service? by tpia5:
SELFWORTH: This question is for pagans and atheists to debate.

Certainly not for a bible believing Christian. If you are a Christian and you are asking this question, please revisit and review your salvation!

Anyone who needs advice about their faith should be directed to the nearest bible believing church.
just like Jesus addressed different churches in revelation based on location, likewise there are different factors involved in these matters when it comes to church.

but i do see your point.

this section should probably be left for the atheists and the current couple of mods while the christians ideally should have somewhere else to discuss issues important to them.

any new section opened for christians should please not include the present mod/s.

nigeria is a poor country.

people should learn to deal with reality instead of fiction.

dont know why they want to start giving themselves airs , and because of what exactly.

if you feel you've arrived and therefore are better than poor nigerians, that's your own cup of beeswax, no need to start whining all over the place because you feel embarassed by your less priviledged relations.

na everything una suppose open thread for?

if guys now open similar threads commenting about your constant begging for brazilian hair and recharge card as well as blackberry, you'll be the ones asking why they're complaining.

the fact that women are the ones most vehement (or is it virulent) here, speaks volumes.

Lets look at Love

1 Cor 13

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Christianity Etc › Re: Bible Study For Bible Students by tpia5: 11:41am On Feb 24, 2013
so, we go from withholding, to giving, with an interesting story in between.

what can we learn from this?

To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
the master had noted the personality and character of each servant.

what he did can be considered a test- if they passed, they would get greater promotion. If they failed, they would get demoted. However, the servants did not know this.

the last one in particular, might have done things differently had he considered the future, or his master's character [if he'd had wisdom]. He knew the kind of master he had, but he did not fear him, thus he went ahead and made some bad choices with attendant consequences.
Christianity Etc › Re: Bible Study For Bible Students by tpia5: 11:33am On Feb 24, 2013
in between these two extremes [giving and withholding], is the story of the ten talents, or the hard hearted servant.

14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.

15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.

16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.

17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.

18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.

20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.

25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?

27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.

29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.

treasure is much more than money or earthly possessions alone.
Christianity Etc › Re: Bible Study For Bible Students by tpia5: 11:29am On Feb 24, 2013
both scenarios are found in the same chapter, however one precedes the other.

the first [the ten virgins] refers to wisdom: five of them were wise, therefore they got prepared for the future. The other virgins, in contrast to them, were foolish because they did not plan for what they were preparing for [the return of the bridegroom].

prov 4:7a

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom
when you have wisdom, you will understand earthly treasures should not superceed heavenly ones.

matt 6:19

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

When is it ok to give or withhold? How do we distinguish between the two.

looking at the parable of the sheep and the goats, we are enjoined to show compassion to the less priviledged:

matt 25

33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,

36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?

39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
compare with the parable of the ten virgins:

"At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.

4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.

5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Lakayana: You sound like a beggar with that mentality. You are only poor when you believe you are. God forbid my Nigeria can never be poor.
your sanity is in question.

did you type these:

Lakayana: But when you are hungry like we are in 9ja when your next door neighbour or even you does not know were the next plate of food is coming from you will not waste food like it is done the white man's land.
Lakayana: how can he say in a crazy country like 9ja with population a of about one hundred and seventy million only 18 million is sick mentally.

TV/Movies › Re: Congolese Actress, Rachel Mwanza To Represent Africa At The Oscars 2013 by tpia5:
lets clarify a few things here:

hollywood actors of nigerian origin

adewale akinnaje

chiwetel

sophie okonedo

hope laide

the lady in tiron

etc etc

nigerian actors from nollywood

benjamin

jim ike

omotola

genevieve

saidi

kate henshaw

etc etc.

now, has anyone ever seen or heard anyone from either group refer to the other? No.

Has nollywood ever publicly acknowledged the nigerian actors in hollywood, expressed any appreciation for their work there, or asked for inspiration, advice or knowledge on how to improve the acting performance?

Not as far as i know, could be wrong.

we feel we have nothing to learn from them i suppose, thus no effort is made to reach out to them or their sponsors, for help with the home grown movie scene.

if this assumption is incorrect, then let me know.

of course it could also be the actors arent in tune with nigeria since they were born/raised abroad, or nigerians wouldnt tolerate them if they attempted to give input, however, i find it strange no nigerian actor has ever mentioned them during a speech or award ceremony.

so, who are the nigerian actors' muses or role models?

myself? huh

But knowing my fellow Nigerians they'll wonder why should we 'work hard' for a 'right' we can collet through Praying & Fasting Plc. SMH!
maybe you mean through fetish practices and snatching married men, because i fail to see where or when praying and fasting became, or has ever been, associated with the nigerian movie industry.
