This is annoying and irritating to say the least. Why is it hard for some to believe that a black man could be fair skinned?
I’m fair skinned and my brother is almost white with some tan. My granddad was very very fair skinned like my brother and I heard that his mother was very fair too. It’s been in my family way back before my great grand ma’s generation. They said we have always been fair skinned with dark skinned ones cropping up every now and then due to marriage with dark skinned wives.
From my maternal side, my mum and her siblings are all fair skinned and their dad fair skinned too.

I’m talking about a community that never had any knowledge of white people until early 20th century (1900s) but my great grand mum was born in 19th century.
I'd say perhaps there's an albinoid gene present since retaining the white skin would only be possible if you only married among yourselves persistently.

a lot of people are darker skinned but still have white ancestry.

Ifygurl:
I just recently learned something new. Did you know "igbo" is a new spelling of us.  They used to call us "eboe". wonder why they changed it.  Anyway, the lightskin thing when it comes to igbo people isn't a new thing for us.  It has been with us since the beginning, long before europeans stepped foot in aFrica.  My mom and I read this book about a igbo girl and a fulani boy that caused a war between their two village(just because both of them were lovers) interesting book it was. Anyway, in the end of the book, it suggested other books to read. which i was able to find online also. Ndi igbo or better yet known as "ndi eboe" tend to be yellow in skincolor and during slavery, many other west african tribes hated us because of that. They used to insult us and claim we look "white and sickly" and white people used to insult us and claim "we look yellow with bile like eyes". Our nickname in the past was "west indies eboes" or "red eboe" but to other west african tribes we were "the sickly tribe"  Insulting isn't it. Looking down upon us for no reason. Wonder wetin we do? So all this hatration directed towards us, have been there since the beginning.  I wonder wetin we did to have other tribes turn against us?

anyone here is are the books (the ones i've read so far)
http://books.google.com/books?id=_lmFzFgsTZYC&pg=PA168
http://books.google.com/books?id=9QORC_cr86sC&pg=PA46&dq=mulatto+eboe&as_brr=1

This is the one i'm reading right now about an igbo slave that escaped from his master
http://books.google.com/books?id=PrPxWLSrp78C&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_v2_summary_r&cad=0

Interesting isn't it.  I always used to think igbo people were dark like ola but hmm, it seems we were a diverse tribe even though other tribes insutled us because of that. I wonder why? oh well, i will never know unless i visited those eras abi?
i think dark skinned people get more insults than light ones.
Politics › Re: Lives Of Former Governors After Office by tpiander: 4:45pm On Aug 31, 2015
175:
Elechi turns to Farming
.
.
.
Unlike other former governors who during their
tenures, bought choice houses in Abuja, the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT), perhaps to remain
close to the seat of power after their tenures,
immediate past Ebonyi State governor, Chief
Martin Elechi, after handing over to his successor,
Chief Dave Umahi at the Abakaliki Township
Stadium on May 29, moved down to his Echialike
country home where he has remained till date.
Political associates and other friends of the
former governor had expected that he would
remain in Abakiliki, the state capital but he
shocked them when he opted to relocate to the
village.
Elechi’s only known building in Abakaliki is
situated at No 1, Okpara Street, and is now used
by one of his sons to run a cyber cafe.
Known for his simplicity and low life posture
during his eight years in office, Elechi maintained
his old house in the village which neither received
any modern architectural design or any other
renovation, LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered.
The former governor, according to information
gathered by LEADERSHIP Sunday, has taken to
farming since he left office. He is said to have
joined his wife, Mrs. Josephine Elechi, in
agricultural activities on her farm, JOSEL
Shonghai Farms, located behind the popular
Hatchery Company in Nkaliki area of the state.
The former governor and wife are now into
fishery, piggery, poultry, horticulture and
production of fruit drinks. The farm, a large
agricultural firm, which also trains people in
different agricultural sectors, also distributes one
of the best fruit drinks in the South-east region.
The product has become a household name in the
fruit drink industry in the zone.
Apart from the farm, the former governor who is
regarded as one of the biggest rice producers in
the state has reportedly, gone back to his rice
production business.
Sources close to the governor said the Governor
who had wished to live a quiet life with his wife,
has been receiving visitors from all works of life,
even more than he used to while he was in office,
among them his political associates, friends and
other members of the society, as well as leaders
of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade
Union Congress (TUC), who on different
occasions, visited the former governor to seek his
views and wise counsel on the lingering wage
crisis between civil servants and the incumbent
government.
The former governor has not been sighted at any
social or political function since he left office.
Apart from his invitation and subsequent visit to
the headquarters of the EFCC shortly after he left
office, following the over 57 petitions before the
commission, against him, alleging
misappropriation of funds, he has not been very
visible in the public domain. While the encounter
with the anti-graft agency lasted, efforts to get a
reaction from the former governor to the
allegations against him were unsuccessful as he
has remained silent over the matter.
According to his political associate, Comrade
Chinedu Ogah, Elechi’s choice to remain out of
circulation for a while may not be unconnected
with his decision not to make any comment that
may trigger political debate or controversy in the
state, having expressed his displeasure with the
election process that saw the emergence of his
successor, the current governor.
His relationship with his successor is everything
but cordial, as the latter has severally described
his administration as corrupt. Most of the
projects he embarked on and commissioned have
also either been adjudged as uncompleted or
inflated.
Similarly, Elechi’s political structures in the state
have been dismantled by the present
administration, just as his political appointees,
particularly the local council caretaker committee
chairmen that worked under him, were probed by
the state House of Assembly and asked to refund
over N1.3 billion allegedly embezzled by them.
The House committee indicted the chairmen, a
development which forced them to dump the PDP
to the APC as they described their indictment as
witch-hunting.
Former caretaker committee chairman of Afikpo
North local government area under the Elechi
administration, Pharmacist Tony Ekoh, accused
the present administration of being on a vendetta
mission.
didnt he study in Congo?

Moralequity:
One important issue to remember here is that black American bi-racial or black light skin Americans are being discriminated against and treated poorly by dark complexion African Americans solely BECAUSE OF PHYSICAL APPEARNCE! The USA is very multicultural now and several different ethnic groups exist. The African American community has become more fragmented and no longer embraces everyone of black ancestry.

For those who have less African Ancestry physical features or first generation bi-racial, a new ethnic group should be embraced to provide community and support (friendship) for those people. The smart fair complexion blacks and bi-racial individuals will stop accepting hate and mental abuse and embrace their own community and ethnicity. Build relationships with people based on common interest and struggle. Don't set yourself up for back stabbing by phony people acting like they like you and requiring you to act extremely humble around them.
nkan be.

It brought to AFrica from South America probably Brazil.

This perhaps explains why garri is more popular in the southernmost part of South West Nigeria i.e Ijebu than among the Oyo further up north who prefer amala or Ekiti who prefer pounded yam.
actually, it doesnt explain that, unless it was brought from somewhere else.

Foreign Affairs › Obama Admin Renames Highest Mountain In America (since Pluto Is Again a Planet) by tpiander(op): 2:28am On Aug 31, 2015
America’s highest mountain, a household name and the answer to countless geography quiz questions, is about to get a new name. President Obama in Anchorage on Monday will announce the renaming of Mount McKinley, honoring the 25th president, to Mount Denali, an Athabascan name used by generations of Alaska Natives that means “the great one.”

The White House said Obama would rename the continent’s tallest peak in order to improve relations with Native Americans. As a central part of the Athabascan creation story, Denali carries cultural importance to many Alaska Natives. Julie Kitka, president of the Alaska Federation of Natives, said in an interview Sunday that the new policy announcement would have a concrete as well as psychological effect on Native Alaskans. “It’s symbolic,” Kitka said, “but the practical thing is now on all the maps and all the descriptions it will have the traditional name. That is wonderful, it is timely and the right thing to do.” William McKinley, an Ohio politician elected in 1896 and assassinated just six months into his second term, never set foot in Alaska.

In 1896, a gold prospector exploring the mountains of central Alaska received news that McKinley, a defender of the gold standard, had been nominated as a candidate for president. “In a show of support, the prospector declared the tallest peak of the Alaska Range as ‘Mt. McKinley’ — and the name stuck,” the White House said. Ever since, there have been efforts to change the name to Denali. Alaskan elected officials have tried several times since 1975 to get the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to consider making Denali official. In 1980, the park surrounding the peak was renamed Denali. Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) recently included language in a spending bill to restore the mountain’s native name. But the Obama administration says Interior Secretary Sally Jewell has the authority to change the name under a 1947 law that established the naming board if the board does not act within a reasonable time.

“In changing the name from Mount McKinley to Denali, we intend no disrespect to the legacy of President McKinley,” said Interior Department officials said in prepared documents. “We are simply reflecting the desire of most Alaskans to have an authentically Alaskan name for this iconic Alaskan feature.”
