1. Don’t call someone more than twice continuously. If they don’t pick up your calls, that means they have something more important to attend to, or they are not near their phones at that time. 2.When your colleague/ classmate/ team-mate, neighbour, gets shouted at, please don’t stare at them. It makes the moment twice awkward. 3.When someone drops something on the floor by mistake, drops food from the plate or doesn’t know how to use a knife/fork don’t stare at them. The same goes to people sneezing, coughing or even letting out an uncontrollable fart. They are all involuntary actions. 4. Always skip using the washroom beside the occupied one. It makes it uneasy for the person in the occupied washroom as well as yourself, if you occupy the one right next to theirs. 5. Return money that you have borrowed even before the other person remembers that he lent it to you, be it #100, #100,000 or #1, 000,000. It shows your integrity and character. Same goes with borrowed umbrellas, pens, lunch boxes or any other item you borrow. 6.Never order the expensive dish on the menu when someone is treating you to lunch/dinner. If possible, ask them to order their choice of food for you. 7.Don’t ask awkward questions like, ‘Oh, so you aren’t married yet?’ Or ‘Don’t you have kids?’ or ‘Why didn’t you buy a house?’ it can embarrass or devastate the person. Have common sense! 8.When someone makes a wrong investment and loses their money, don’t add fuel to the flames by saying ‘I knew this would happen. You should have listened to me’. Don’t make failure seem worse for anyone. 9.Always open the door for the person coming behind you. It doesn’t matter if it is a male or a female. You don’t grow small by treating someone well in public or by being kind. 10.Wear ear phones when travelling on a subway, car or bus.Don’t make others taste your choice of good/bad music.Don't put them through the pain of listening to music under compulsion, no matter how good u think the song is.Always assume they are not in the mood for it. 11. Don't visit anyone/knock on people's doors unannounced, irrespective of how close, Call them up and have an appointment, some days or at least a day to your visit, except it is an unavoidable emergency, that probably involves a one on one seeing and not a phone talk. 12. When you stretch out your hand to give or take a handshake, always, always, accompany it with a smile and a direct look into the other person's eyes. Make your handshake firm, especially for guys. 13 Try to chew your food with your mouth closed. If you don't learn this in the privacy of your home, you will surely forget it when you are eating in public. To the utmost disgust of others who have to listen to you chew. 14 Always go out with an handkerchief. With the prevalence of air bonne diseases and germs, the least you could do for yourself is cover your mouth when you yawn and sneeze. A lot of meetings are avoidable. Some people hold meetings just to feel cool and busy. Some things can be done via email and Skype. You can hold some meetings standing. That way people won’t waste your time. Only the crucial and business changing meetings deserve your time. Remember in elementary school how they crammed the importance of "honesty" down your throat? One time I got a question on a test wrong but it was marked right, so I told the teacher. Then she freakin changed my grade lower lol. So that day I learned sometimes honesty is stupid. (When You're hungry and your English teacher is using your break period) English teacher: who can make a sentence with "summer" Me: summer food but cannot eat, Some can eat but they have no food |
I used to be on a group on WhatsApp years back. The group was about recent trends. People come, drop recent news and jokes, we laugh, learn and move on. One day, a certain guy we all felt should be happy and bubbling just came out and shared his story. I guess he was at a point where he could not hold it anymore. After the guy spoke, people started to share their sorrows and worries. That night, I could not sleep well because I heard a lot from people I perceived as HAPPY. After a press release was released that Avicii committed suicide. I saw a lot of tweet about how money cannot buy happiness. Everyone knows that money does not guarantee happiness but do you know that having no one close to talk to is one of the reasons why people commit suicide. Most times, most of the reasons why people kill themselves can be avoided if they had just one person they could trust and open up too. We live in a very selfish and self-centered world where people think about themselves and see no reason why they should check up on others. I beseech you today to check yorself. Are you really someone people can approach when they have issues bothering them and you will not judge or share their pains with others. Are you one that would check on people when its been long you heard from them just to see that they good? We need more humans. We need more caring people. We need more people who will be there for people in time of need. Please be one. Please be one.....

A Letter To the “Nice Girl” : I feel like all my life it’s been a constant war of “nice.” I’ve always been “the good girl”, the nice one, the one voted biggest sweetheart out of my class in high school, the one that everyone saw as nice and innocent and good. I know it’s a good thing, I know it’s a compliment, but it’s something that has constantly dug deep and may I even get really honest with you... hurt my feelings. Crazy, right? There have been instances where people have apologized or said “oh I forgot you were here...” when they said something profane or inappropriate. Where people have intentionally taken advantage of me because of my kindness. I’ve had people tell me it’s cute when I get mad or it’s fun to make me mad. Instances where people directly told me I’m too innocent and too pure. It’s always hurt my feelings, especially my later years of high school. I always wanted to please everyone, make them comfortable, not hurt their feelings... and in turn it seemed to be just a counteract game of trying to prove myself. That I was strong & that I wasn’t weak because society maybe viewed my vulnerability that way. That my feelings are validated and they matter. I desperately wanted people to realize that I wasn’t perfect (Isn’t that such a weird thing to say aloud?) & that I could stand my ground. You know, I could guess there are some of you like that out there. Trying to fit in, trying to find balance, to prove that just because you’re “nice” doesn’t mean you’re weak or timid. I am, in nature, quite the opposite ironically (I have a very passionate, determined, & stubborn spirit haha). And I know it hurts when people abuse that & when people don’t understand. But I do know that nice is NOT the norm & it’s a lot easier to be cold & closed off. But that’s not Jesus & that’s not how He calls is to walk. It takes vulnerability and courage and strength. And lots and lots of love. So remember that the next time you want to prove yourself.. you don’t have to prove anything at all. You are a light in places that are all the same. And nice does not mean weak. ❤️ |
