It is naive and inconsiderate not to realise that when a person moves abroad, something has changed in their environment, schedule, and commitments. So it is unrealistic and myopic to expect the same level of availability and interaction as when they were still in Nigeria.

For example, someone who moves to Europe, which has a similar time zone to Nigeria, the demand on one's time is unbelievably much, and after work, there is little time to engage in aimless chatter. In the Netherlands even a brief friendly chat over the phone, requires for one to book an appointment - that is the culture. And the lifestyle also mandates that. So how do you expect someone to have the same availability to you as when they were still in Nigeria. I literarily had to make a list of the people I needed to call back home and schedule them weeks ahead.

There is also the issue of difference in time zones and the weather which severely limits useful hours in a day.

For mobile calls, there is the cost factor of making international calls - Whatsapp to the rescue!

Overall, communication is a two way thing. if your friend does not call you, you sef call am now instead of grumbling and feeling abandoned.
