I look at all the Chinese students in my class when they struggle to speak in English, and i take consolation in the fact that i was brought up doing so.
BTW, how do you think, this would have played out eventually? there are more than 10 different languages in Nigeria, thts why an official language is needed, else, we probably wont even be discussing this on Nairaland!
Mr Violent this is 'much ado about nothing', my point was simple, there should be an OPTION that enables people in rural areas to study to any level in their native language.

Poorly reasoned conjecture.
You are mistaking a casual comment for a detailed essay, remember Fela was about 'simplifing' complex issues so the common man could understand not showing off like you are trying to do so here.

Yep! Mental slavery was alive and kicking then and it still is, all you have to do is spend 5 minutes on NL and you will see. Imagine if all the subjects in the curriculum were taught in Africans native language? Then all those people in the rural areas would have a better chance of being educated. But unfortunately, due to a lack of pride in their own culture, Africans have to learn English or French first before they can be considered educated grin grin grin grin grin grin They should ask themselves, 'were we stupid before the white man came to Africa'?

But when he talks about his job he talks about "shooting MDs", "God not forgiving him" , "Nigerias economy outgrowing south africas".
He then sounds like a lightweight and people laugh at him.
And on the international level they see him as not being learned enough. "like some English who attended his road show in london claimed".

What is his economic model for Nigeria.
What is his direction for Nigerias financial sector.
These are genuine questions for a CBN governor and not Nigeria's history.

I had lost most of the respect I had for Soludo when he ventured into politics having left the CBN.
But now we have CBN governor who is more interested in politics even while he is in office.
Nigeria never ceases to amaze.
Beaf:
What alarms me most, is that Sanusi is eager to be seen as an intellectual (which he definitely is not) and he has a band of fanatic followers "sinking" the word into our heads. It won't work.
If you compare Sanusi's cv with the likes of Soludo or Iweala its embarassing, who asked for his opinion? Hes comments are unprofessional and at best unremarkable, he needs to focus on the job, produce the goods and stop trying to be judge and jury on the history of Nigeria.  Think about it, if you had $1 million in a company, would you want the CEO to start yapping on about the history of Nigeria or what he can do for you as a shareholder?

Its obvious that the North wanted one of their own champions and Sanusi is trying to live up to expectations with words - but the country needs hes effective actions.  He makes it obvious that he is trying to compete in the popularity stakes with Fashola.  But he needs to look up to Fashola - a man who lets his actions speak.  Fashola did not go to MIT, Harvard or Oxford but he is a world class leader and yet he remains humble and focused.

What a phony individual you are  cheesy  Look sit down and pay attention you are going to learn something:  governments have at their disposal two types of policy: Monetary and Fiscal Policy.  I can see that what you and your self (devilmaycy) are struggling to explain, is that governments may  increase or decrease the money supply as a monetary policy.

Now the consequences of such measures is that an increase in the supply of money (printing money) may lead to demand pull inflation.  Look you are dealing with the master don’t degrade yourself any further with multiple personalities.   grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

I am not arguing about the GDP- i am arguing about how that GDP is applied. Even if nigeria makes 360 billion dollars as you say, and it goes into the pockets of corrupt politicians, how does it develop nigeria? If Ghana makes a 1/10th of what we make, as you claim, and they spend it efficiently, which country is better?
No need to get vex you are trying to say Nigeria has a bad distribution of wealth - thats absolutely true, but Ghanas use of its income is worse, the country is nearly

By the way, for all ya peeps hollering in the previous post about a certain guy, what's his name again? I forget so easily, a certain Phil guy, Phil Emegually, saying he started the internet? Stop bull-shitting yourselves. The last time I saw something gually in nature was when I accidentally stumbled on a fat woman's ass! grin. I bet many a computer scientist hasn't even stumbled on that name. This whole thing started with Bill Clinton who came to Naija (with his water, forks, knives, and personal Lewinsky) and tried to psyche us all up so we would believe in ourselves for once. Please just stop it, there are more names worth mentioning in association to the internet. Phil? huh well, maybe a certain computer guy who tried, just like them all, but come on, come on! there are also tons of americans, germans, chinese, japs and indies worth mentioning.

Save.
You are putting on a vivid display of ignorance and crudeness;  maybe you should have stuck your head up the part of text that is enlarged and bolded.   I am a computer scientist and I have heard of Philip, anyway, it’s a pleasure to educate the blind,

transformR :
Philip Emeagwali was a pioneer in the field of super-computers - supercomputers are the backbone of the internet - do some reading!
Why did you skip all the other names I listed? Why are you looking for the negative? Typical coconut pull them down mentality, When it comes to Mr Emeagwali Pioneer is the key word here it means:

# open up an area or prepare a way; "She pioneered a graduate program for women students"
# initiate: take the lead or initiative in; participate in the development of; "This South African surgeon pioneered heart transplants"
# someone who helps to open up a new line of research or technology or art
# open up and explore a new area; "pioneer space"

So what is paramount about Mr Emeagwali is that he is a West African brother who ‘contributed to’ Super-computers.  He was refused a Phd and went to court accusing the institution concerned of racism, he lost and that was that.  I was fully aware of the Clinton story, and that alone should show you how much respect Billy has for you and your people.  So the question is  should we be proud of him? Or say

sauer:
but come on, come on! there are also tons of americans, germans, chinese, japs and indies worth mentioning.
Typical MENTAL SLAVERY! Why are you not proud of your own?
What contributions have you made towards your street? never mind computer science You can’t even spell Emeagwali. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

thats why obama goes to africa for the first time as president and doesnt go to either south africa or Nigeria the number 1 and 2 economies in africa, but goes to ghana

it would be like going to south east asia and going to visit vietnam, without stepping foot in either china or japan

nigeria, kenya and SA has arguably better freedoms and democratic idealS than these countries he happily visited,so why the double standard?

Botswana - I have never seen a thing about them, what program when? Liberia, interestingly, who brought peace to Liberia? How much did Nigeria spend on Liberia and Sierra Leone? do you know?

Bob Geldof and U2 were doing concerts and getting incredible amounts of publicity when they said they were trying to save Africa.  Even Bob Geldof (a realist) said its disgraceful that a few rock stars can get so much attention for Africa but the media ignores Africans.  They were doing all of that for $2 billion.  Meanwhile Nigeria paid off $34 billion worth of debt one of the biggest debt payments of all time! Did it make the front page? Did it get any coverage?   grin grin grin grin grin Believe me the Oyinbos spend every second degrading Arfricans its a tradition - Africans are seen as Kids.

bawomolo:
it's funny when people say the good parts of african should be shown. The point is the good parts of Africa are being shown but the negative overwhelm the good parts.

Most Nigerians would be complaining if slum dog millionaire was staged in Nigeria. hey lets ignore the bad parts and act as if they don't exist.
Can you give an example of the good parts please?
PoliticsRe: Sanusi's Very Interesting Perspective - We Are Products Of Colonialism - by transformR: 11:28pm On Nov 20, 2009
I think its inappropriate for Mr Sanusi to comment on social issues, why can't he focus on the financial sector?  He seems to attack rather than solve, we need a competent head of the CBN not a sociologist.  I am not impressed with his social perspective its patronising and defensive, he should save those kind of opinions for his peers in his leisure; Its like listening to Ben Bernanke talking about Slavery, African Americans and immigration.

Soludo was much more impressive, he gave confidence to Nigerians in the economy, even when things were gloomy, but time will be the judge its early days.  It would be more impressive if he wrote about the economic history of Nigeria and the way forward - a vision.
PoliticsRe: Cabals In Nigeria: Real Or Imagined by transformR: 11:05pm On Nov 20, 2009
The Cabal thing is a myth It more a case of the elite clinging onto power by all means necessary which in most cases is detrimental to the whole nation.
