No use reasoning with cretins, who cant see the big picture!
Anyway, lets takle corruption from the local level & strive to be honest in everything we do!
We should also get involved in local politics, or at least monitor what our local politicians are doing with our money! For example, does the refuse collector come every week?
What about abandoned construction projects in your community (road, drainage etc) ?

Lets stand up for our right, rather than wimpering or trading insults & blame! While our politicians steal us blind

Look Hackney you need to stop being lazy and read and if you want to ask questions do so rather than spewing out ignorant crap to gain attention.

hackney:
In 1 million years time, you will still get young black rats in hoodies blaming the white man's system for his retarded state and absolute failure. (rude boys!!)
I thought you was a fake Engineer now you are a phony Fortune teller

hackney:
Can someone do me a favour and put up pics of Germany/japan in 1945?
(less than 70 yrs ago) and their current  pictures.

After that we can carry on with how the slave trade is still holding us back.
Lazy idiots.
The Japanese and Germans were not enslaved for 400 years.  More importantly, The USA and Europe PAID FOR THE RECONTRUCTION of Japan and Germany.  Read about the The Bretton Woods system;  Do you think that Germans and Japanese are wizards? oh dear. Why did’nt they pay for the reconstruction of Africa after 400years of slavery and decades of colonization (exploitation)? Could it be they did not give a hoot?  On top of that the organisers of Brettonswood (USA, UK and others) realised that the 'underlying' cause of war was the exclusion of Japan and Germany from world markets so what did they do? Offer them aid? No, spread malicious propaganda? no; they offered them free trade and an easy payments system!  As a result Japan has the second largest economy and Germany is the 3rd richest country in the world, oh and England was the 4th but the recession has changed all that  grin grin grin grin grin

hackney:
Keep recycling those old farts you call politicians who are set in their i-am-your-elder-and-so-always-right-so-kneel down-and-shutup mentality.
They embezzle money so blatantly that they you wonder if they are also humans.
They eat money for electricity and buy a big Gen (oyibo product for african market) for their house in the village.
Villagers will be walking by, hearing the industrial scale noise of the gen from 'chief's' house.
This is a typical rant from a disenfranchised Nigerian stuck in a ghetto called Hackney.  I have said it before and will repeat Nigerian leaders are useless.  But promise me you won’t blame the leaders again its getting soooooo boring!

hackney:
Go to ghana and experience constant electricity.
I have been there (the ladies are beautiful!!!) and they seem to have the same complaints Nigerians have – oh and the constant electricity is a myth they don’t have it.

But on a more serious note comparing the Ghanaian Economy to that of Nigeria is like comparing a huge lorry with a faulty engine to a bicycle  grin grin grin grin Ghana has a GDP of around $34.52 billion  whilst Nigeria has the 36th largest economy in the world something around $336.2 billion as you can see its more than 10 times the size of the Ghanaian economy.   grin grin grin grin grin; So Nigeria in a mess with BAD leaders is still doing pretty well last years growth rate was above 5%.   In the late 80s and early Nineties Nigeria use to have an exchange rate of £1 To 2 Naira! Now its 1 penny to 1 Naira thats pretty sad.

Continue blaming oyibo for all your woes.
I am clearly not blaming the White man for all of Africas problems TODAY but Newtons law of motion states that “every action has a reaction”,  The Europeans worked tirlessly to make Africans hate everything about themselves and this thread proves that It is still having an effect.  You cannot rule that out as a cause for African peoples lack of progress.

Demain_man:
Naija leaders will use that exact line of argument to explain their non-performance.
I will never make an excuse for non-performance :  Yaradua and his administration are a complete and utter joke!

Demain_man:
If I ask u now you go say u be Christian!

Bible+Oyibo = Slavery.
WRONG! I believe in GOD its natural for Africans to believe in GOD and I tend toward my African beliefs if anything.  I do not follow any religion.  Why because, I know that Christianity is an African religion repackaged as a European one and Islam was co-founded by Africans.  More importantly, Igbo, Yoruba, along with most other African religions are older than Christianity and Islam is younger than Christianity  grin grin grin  The most important thing is that we all believe in GOD and live a righteous life.  Mr Achebe and Mr Soyinka, who are among the greatest writers of all time will back me up on these points.

Specifically@ anonimi, I don't know what to say to you, really. Have you never heard that the future is the child of the past and the present? We should ignore our past in forging ahead. What are you saying? If your child comes home with a bad result and reminds you that he had a good result the previous year, what will bother you? Is it just the fact that the child failed or that the child once passed but now fails? I will be bothered about the latter because if the child always comes home with a bad result, you can surmise that the child is not brilliant but when the child was once brilliant but now fails then you have to find out the cause because that will be the key to making the child pass again. Africa has not always been backward and under developed. Our problems as we know it started from the slave trade. Reviewing the events between the slave to present day and our present conditions will tell us how to make our future brighter than our today. The past is the key, the present is the door. Both are needed to unlock the future. Ignore your past and you forfeit your future. Realize that.

grin grin grin, thats a first. Maybe its because we are beginning to adjust to the economic system. Please tell me what african countries are growing richer? And tell me what aspect of their industry is growing richer? And most importantly tell me if their groth is based on internal factors (industry within the country) or external factors (exports of raw materials to fuel real growth in emerging economies like China or India)
The answer is in bold, that is so because these two nations do not have a "I am your Master" mentality like the Americans and Europeans.  Secondly, they are only interested in TRADE not medling with government.  Hence they could'nt careless if Africa developed or not but on the otherhand Europeans and the Americans have paid billions to make sure that Africa is ruled by complete Dummies.  Have you listened to Felas ITT? You see Felka tried to simplify complex situations so the common man that is suffering in Africa could see what was going on - he was about breaking the chains of Mental slavery.

SEFAGO:
Nkrumah ruled mate, he his government was actually very good, but like most recent post-colonial governments, it declined in transparency, infact Nkrumahs term was marked by significant corruption. This has been historically documented. You could read Ayi Kwei Armah's "Beautyful ones are not yet born" and he portrayed Nkrumah's government as very corrupt. Furthermore Nkrumah was a brilliant leader, but he was also wanted to industrialize Ghana as quickly as possible, and so he incurred massive debt as a result, which affected the ghanian economy. His government was marked by bad governance and unplanned spending which later led to a coup- but i would admit he was a brilliant leader.

Awolowo- was also a good leader- i wouldn't expantiate because most nigerians know about him.

shocked shocked shocked. The fact that china invests heavily in US treasury boonds, as well as the fact that the US trade deficit with china, means nothing. China wouldn't be a superpower prolly until the next 50+ years. Infact china needs America to survive- if not those trade deficits/agreements would become tissue paper. There is an over-reliance of the majority of nouveau rich countries on the west. But that is not the topic anyways.

India has a population over 1 billion. They have the same population problem as china and these could hamper their developmet. AIDS wouldn't affect india's growth. The problem is that india's growth is lopsided. They have been significantly favored by IT outsourcing, with the rise of infosy and satyam- and the movement of several western jobs into india. Also biotechnology is rising. Plus a very well-educated class- even if 20% of india is educated, that is about the same size as the whole population of nigeria. In addition, India is trying to abolish their caste system, and introduce people of the lowest class into higher-level positions especially positions usually limited to the brahmin. They are making progress mate. It might take a million strides to get where u want, but u need to take little ones first to reach that goal.

Emancipate your mind and free yourself from mental slavery

The White man enslaved Africans for 400 years.   The Europeans were determined to wipeout Africans the same way

they wiped out Aborigines and stole their land and called it Austalia,
The same way they wiped out the Carib indians in the West-indies,
The same way they wiped out the Māori, stole their land and called it New Zealand,
They same way they wiped out red indians and stole their land and called it the U.S, A.

The USA was built by slaves, even the Whitehouse was built by slaves. Ships from Liverpool a major city in England delivered more than one million slaves to the New World it was such a lucrative business that George Frederick Cooke said: “Every brick in this town is cemented with the blood of a negro”

In China in 1990, 375 million lived less than $1 a day about six years ago, the number of poor fell by about 180 million and by 2015, economic forecast revealed that the number is expected to drop further to about 16million
The truth is China should have been a superpower a looooong time ago they are late commers; with that said, China has a trade agreement with Europe and the US and The US trade deficit with China widened 9.2 per cent in September to $22.1 billion - the highest since November 2008. China pretty much owns 50% of the US Financial sector too so do you understand why they can feed all their people?

violent:
South Asia, led by India, is expected to cut the number of poor people from 462 million in 1990 to 232 million in 2015.
Yaradua said that Nigeria will be an industrialized country by 2020 too. grin grin grin grin grin

Presently:  47% of young children in India are malnourished, and up to a third of the world's undernourished children are Indian.
http://www.unicef.org/india/overview_3702.htm

India is a very racist country, they have a caste system - do some reading, they also have a huge AIDs problem too.

violent:
In Africa the numbers go the other way. Between 1981 and 2002, the number of people trapped in poverty nearly doubled from 164 million to
303 million. By 2015, this number is expected to rise to 336 million
This is an imbalanced argument you should compare Asia to Africa in its entirety, There are more people in India than the whole African Continent! And India is a single country in Asia.  The fact of the matter is Asia is overpopulated - they have terrible population control e.g Pakistan: 160 million people+, Banladesh 200 million+, Japan 140 million+ etc

violent:
u guys should stop throwing the slave trade card, slave trade occurred in most civilization and it's not peculiar to Africa alone.
But the trans-atlantic slave trade was the cruelest and Africa has not yet recovered - especially mentally  grin 6million Jews were gassed by Hitler and we hear about it all the time.  On the other hand 10 million Africans, the same blood as you were chucked int he Atlantic ocean when they were sick at sea - to overlook that as an African is pure ignorance.

violent:
In as much as we nurture an unwavering love for the country and the continent as a whole, we must not deviate from telling the truth, and yes, it feels good to be an African, i feel proud to be called by an African name, but if your house is on fire, u dont keep smiling!
What are you proud about?

Help me out guys. Do we have any decent Nigerian with power that can inspire the masses to demand change?
Ribadu, Kukah, Iweala, Soyinka, Fashola??
Any more? pls add on.
I think the masses need to change their attitude first, then a leader will emerge from amongst them; Mrs Iweala is a good example, in the end she had to leave the government because she could not function effectively in a corrupt environment. Secondly, how many Nigerians abroad have become leaders in an enabling environment? Are they raising their children to be leaders?

If a nation of 140 million plus millions abroad can only produce such a narrow range of leaders there is a problem and the solution is us.

The Initial goals of the missionaries was the CCC (conversion, commerce and civilization).  Slaves were already being exchanged before the missionaries came. you are distorting history.

yeah claiming not all whites are bad is a sign of mental slavery.   you learn something new everyday.
Have you got a white wife or something, you love defending white crimes with passion don't ya?  grinCCC means Crazy Clumsy Coon  https://i.imagehost.org/0734/LMAO.gif and we all know thats you bawomolo and your brother hackney.

Miss EZ:
I have read alot of arguments on NL about nigeria, nigerian leaders and how they run the country, and i honestly believe that most of us that argue here wont do better or any different if we are in their shoes.

Yes the white man has screwed us over, but they have also contributed positively no matter how small it is. I think we should look inwards and begin to find solutions for ourselves and stop being too concerned about what they think about us. their perception about us will remain if we dont try to change the way we act.

Its sad that all we are known is fraud, when we have indeed been part of great inventions and discoveries. I say we move forward, and look inwards and get to know who we really are and how we can bring about positive change because we are responsible for what nigeria will be tomorrow. And guess what, for most of us, our kids will grow up in nigeria so lets look for how we can make it a better place. Improve our image both at home and internationally. we are the ones that can make that change.
I agree with you on the bolded parts of your post grin grin grin grin

Why do we always blame the whites for all our woeshuh Wetin our fellow black missionaries(Pastors) they do us dis days!!! Na only GOD go judge. grin huh
Thats right, we must not blame everything on white people but to ignore the biggest crime against humanity is not an option. On the otherhand I mentioned earlier that as far as I am concerned the slave masters have been replaced with African Politicians and the missionaries with the fake pastors.

lol tell that to Christians. I'm not one. Slavery occurred in Africa way before the advent of missionaries by the way. Gold mines in places like Ghana, Mali etc were operated by slaves. Kingdoms such as dahomey an the Wolof used slaves abundantly but hey lets all blame whitey.
You need to desist from using cynicism on every post to mask your insecurities, I was merely mentioning the role of missionaries in slavery not its absolute origins. Its amusing how you claimed:

bawomolo:
It's funny how this thread has degenerated to a "i better pass you" tirade.
And then you join the debate and exhibit the same behaviour:

no one is defending whites, get off your high horse.

funny how you guys fall into the same traps as the leaders you criticize.

the mission schools were of great benefit to Africans, not to speak of heros like Mary Slessor of Calabar.  Not all whites are bad people or out to get us.  You guys need to start being open-minded and stop screaming self-hate when someone disagrees with you.

not dumb but struggling to regain the ability to lead after years of colonization
White missionaries were the main tool used to enslave Africans! Why do you think that most of the west indian Islands are divided into parishes? The Missionaries would BRAINWASH the Africans with the Bible that they were (ordained) born to be slaves.  This is part of the reason why slavery occured for 400 years, the Africans MENTAL state.  The physical part of slavery has come to an end but MENTAL slavery is still here and its alive and kicking in this thread.

You think that if you mention WAN people go run.
No let's not leave it at your poxy qualifications at one of the non-serious, lets-rave-and-then-protest-about-something.
oxford and cambridge are just places our parents went to school and topped everything.
Let's leave it at CCNP.
Oh no! I thought comedian like you were extinct - you are funny  grin grin grin grin grin @hackney,  WAN dose not stand for Wild African Nutcase even a 10 year old child can tell thats a joke and secondly, vendor qualifications are attained regularly by teenagers so its nothing to write home about.  But strangely, you ignored the micro-computer bit as an Engineer you should have had plenty to say about that - never mind.   grin grin grin

It reminds me of a Nigerian who told me he has a degree in Architecture, I said wow! 'can you tell me more about African Architecture', he replied yes 'Mud huts' grin grin

@hackney,  get back on the main topic Re: Identity Guard Commercial On Nigeria, Good Or Bad?  you are getting too personal  grin grin grin grin and the more you do the more foolish you look.

Ego as prerequisite to  being succesful? You must be having a laugh.
This is the problem with some Nigerians such as yourself, you accuse people of something you continuously exhibit – an argumentative streak and a need to criticise for NOTHING!

noun (pl. egos) 1 a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance. 2 Psychoanalysis the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for the interpretation of reality and the development of a sense of self.  source:  http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/ego?view=uk

you are probably confusing it with this loose definition which I am not refering to : [s]an inflated feeling of pride in your superiority to others [/s]

I think a debate about Egos is too great a diversion from the Original topic  grin

@Mr transformer.
if you mean academic qualifications, my dear you will lose so badly you will look like a monkey.
One of our house girls when i was small is a full fledged DOCTOR (UNN).

lets not go there, no! no! no! no!
My 1st class Engineering cert from a naija federal uni is somewhere (havent seen it for about 2 yrs now)

lets not.
You love to disgrace yourself don't you  grin grin grin grin grin Its weird how an Engineering graduate had no knowledge of the internet, micro-computers and WANs and no WAN dose not stand for Wild African Nutcase, it stands for Wide Area Networks  grin grin grin grin grin.  Again I will assure you that if you compare the qualifications you have stated to mine - it will be a mismatch, all my education was at the top unis of the oyinbos you worship - lets leave it at that.

hackney:
look at you. Im sure yu've read my grand dad's books.
Where are you from?
who are you?
Noooo!!!

look look look look.
We have some national records in my family my dear. (Jamb, common entrance, youngest ever graduates etc)
Try coming up with something fresh like a new principle or invention and not just reading books ( now a bit boring).
I am glad you mentioned inventions; so lets just say NL is not the right place for me to discuss such things (What am I doing here?) otherwise I will be accused of bragging and showing off and exacerbating the so called 'blackman problem'.

The above quotes exemplifies one of the african or blackman problems. . .Ego.What has your education done to improve your immediate constituency in nigeria or is it only for bragging rights?
Are you not the same person I enlightened about the computer and internet not being a PURE whiteman invention? If you don't have an Ego you will never succeeed, all sucessful people have an Ego.  The irony is that you have invited me to brag about who I ma and my achievements - nice try.

You @asha 80 have exemplified your so-called ''african or blackman problems" by mistaking a response to an insult as bragging; which might inturn disintergrate into an argument.
