Politics / Ministerial Screening- Group Gets A Court Injuction To Stop Amaechi by Transporter123(m): 9:00am On Oct 15, 2015 |
There are very strong indications that Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, working through one
Livingstone Wechie, has secured a court order to
stop the Senate from screening former Rivers
State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi as a ministerial
nominee.
Wechie through his organisation, Integrity Group
had claimed, that Amaechi corruptly enriched
himself while in office as Governor.
Amaechi had denied every of the allegations,
describing it as a witch-hunt.
The order, reportedly secured from a Rivers
State High Court, is expected to be served on the
senate before its sitting, today, Thursday.
A source also hinted that the court papers had
already been served on the Senate before the
close of work on Wednesday.
Amaechi was initially one of the ten ministerial
nominees scheduled to be screened on
Wednesday but his screening was deferred as a
result of the delay in the report of the Senate’s
Ethics and Privileges Committee. |
Politics / Rivers Guber: How FG Intimidates Wike’s Witnesses by Transporter123(m): 3:25pm On Oct 03, 2015 |
Heavily Armed Department of State Services (DSS) operatives stormed Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to arrest a retired subpoenaed commander who testified that the election was peaceful, credible and without cases of violence. The retired DSS Commander, Emannuel Philips, testified before the tribunal on Saturday. Shortly after he started his testimony, APC officials rushed out and placed calls. Few minutes later, armed DSS operatives numbering about 20 arrived the court premises at Apo in Abuja. Some of the operatives were stationed downstairs and others climbed to the second floor of the tribunal to attempt arresting the DSS operative. He was holed up in the tribunal for 20 minutes after his testimony, before lawyers of the respondents escorted him to the vehicle, insisting that the DSS operatives present their warrant of arrest from a court of competent jurisdiction. When it was obvious that they had none, the lawyers led the retired DSS Commander to his car and he drove off. The DSS operatives drove after him. On Friday, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, made an attempt to arrest the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Akuki Kenneth, who testified, but was resisted by lawyers. https://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/10/rivers-guber-how-fg-intimidates-wikes-witnesses/ |
Politics / Governorship-poll-inec-closes-defence-wike-opens-up-on-wednesday by Transporter123(m): 3:42pm On Sep 29, 2015 |
The Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) on Tuesday, September 29. 2015, closed
its defence of the victory of Rivers State
Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, in the April 11
governorship election, declaring that the 16
witnesses called by the commission were
targeted at all locations where Rivers State APC
claimed the governorship election did not hold.
At the resumed sitting of the Justice Suleiman
Ambrosa-led tribunal sitting in Abuja, INEC
noted that on the strength of its witnesses and
relevant documents tendered it has proved that
the election was held peacefully and in line with
the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
Ruling on the INEC application for the closure of
their defence, Justice Suleiman Ambrosa,
chairman of the Rivers State Governorship
Election Petition Tribunal, adjourned sitting to
Wednesday. The Tribunal chairman announced
that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo
Wike, will open his defense on Wednesday.
Addressing journalists after closing INEC’s
defence, Counsel to INEC, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN)
, explained that the number of witnesses called
by the commission were in line with the
allegations made by the Rivers State APC
Governorship candidate, Mr Dakuku Peterside,
and the areas where he called witnesses.
He said: “We are satisfied that the 16 witnesses
who conducted the Rivers State Governorship
Election in communities where the petitioner
had alleged violence are enough to prove that
the election held successfully, contrary to their
allegations.
“Witnesses are not called for the fun of it, but for
the specific purpose of proving our case.”
The INEC counsel added that aside INEC other
respondents, Governor Wike and the PDP have
their own witnesses to call.
The 16 witnesses called by INEC spread across
10 local government areas in the three
Senatorial districts of Rivers State.
All the witnesses maintained that the
governorship election was peaceful, credible,
free and fair. They berated a few soldiers and
mobile policemen and security agents invited by
the petitioner as witnesses for lying when they
did not participate in the election.
The INEC witnesses comprised LGA Electoral
Officers and Presiding Officers.
Hearing resumes tomorrow at the Rivers State
Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. dailyindependentnig.com/2015/09/.. |
Nairaland / General / Soldiers, Policemen Lied On Rivers Election - Inec Witnesses by Transporter123(m): 6:41pm On Sep 28, 2015 |
Eight witnesses for the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday told the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, that the security men, who had testified for the All Progressives Congress lied on oath before the tribunal. The witnesses also told the tribunal during their cross examination by counsel for the APC, Mr Akinlolu Olujimi, on Monday that the security men were ignorant of the electoral processes at the polling units. Fifty eight witnesses, among whom were soldiers, policemen and officials of State Security Services, were called by the APC to prove the allegations that the April 11 governorship election in the state was marred by violence. Some of the witnesses had testified that there was no election while others claimed that the election was disrupted by shooting of guns by some hoodlums and ballot snatching. The INEC witnesses, however, said the election was peaceful, credible and that all legal procedures for the election were also followed before the declaration of Governor Nyesom Wike as the winner of the governorship poll. All the witnesses, who were presiding officers in five local government areas, namely Degema, Gokana, Ogba /Egbema/Ndoni, Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro, added that the card readers and manual accreditation were used during the election. The Presiding Officer at Ward 4 Unit 10, Mr Derekunor Richmond, described the soldiers who testified earlier as liars who were not at the polling unit. He said the governorship election was peaceful, credible and conducted in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines. Richmond pointed out that he met other presiding officers, who participated in the collation exercise at the ward collation centre where results were compiled. Another Presiding Officer, Nwachukwu Chimezie, who conducted election at Unit 9, Ward 14 of Degema, noted that the election was peaceful and credible in his jurisdiction. According to Chimezie, the soldiers and riot policemen, who testified before the tribunal lied on oath. He said Degema LGA was peaceful on Election Day as he slept in the town on April 10 with no case of shooting or thuggery witnessed. He added that all electoral procedures were followed before the results were declared in the presence of party agents. Another INEC witness, Apoodari Dilo, the Presiding Officer for Unit 4 Ward 4 in Gokana, berated the soldiers, saying there was no violence during the governorship election. www.punchng.com/news/soldiers-policemen-lied-on-rivers-election-inec-witnesses/ |
