I accepted a job from an Indian guy two days ago, I contacted him to supply more info about the job but he has not responded since he gave the job. The Job is to end in 2days and I could see my freelancers account with -$25 debit. What can I do about this employer.

Ladywriter there is a BIG problem here. A sad trend is forming. I once told you to EMPHASISE strongly to new freelancers that they MUST read ALL the posts on ALL the pages here with PEN and PAPER before ever thinking of opening an account but you probably forgot. A lot of newbies are losing unearned money already and I don't know how motivating this is. I have seen a lot of similar complaints bordering on milestones recently. People do not want to read but they must be shown the importance of doing so

I suggest you put up a postscript at the end of each post you make. E.g. ... Read EVERY post on ALL the pages of this thread BEFORE opening an account with Freelancer. If you don't, YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED.

Also include this message in your first post on page 0.

Yes spoonfeeding is good but can be unproductive atimes. It's time to be more realistic. A freelancer is meant to have a self-made mindset - independent, curious, investigative etc. Not wholly dependent on others. I don't there is nothing that has not been dealt with here before. It takes a huge effort to keep answering the same questions over and over again.

These are totally avoidable mistakes. Imagine accepting a project with no set milestone, from an INDIAN!!!!!!!! for that matter? Chai!

More people are joining without bothering to study the business. Some do not even know FL has a comprehensive FAQ section. This is business, not a hobby.

For those of us complaining about running out of bids, this is what I did and before i could finish my 100 bids, i had already made more than $80. As newbies, we are all given the opportunity to try out the PLUS membership plan(1 month FREE TRIAL VERSION), which comes with 100 BIDS, but to activate it, you would need to verify your means of payment, which i did with my GTB Mastercard, and then i activated the TRIAL membership. I enjoyed every benefit that came with the PLUS membership, 100 BIDS included (Remember say na just one month trial oO). I was placing bids for fun, and even after the trial expired, they still left me with the remaining BIDS, and thats how i still have enough BIDS left after approximately 2months on FL.

ABEG make sure you switch back to the free membership on the day the trial is supposed to expire, because when it does and you dont downgrade, dem go collect money from your local bank account, $9.95 to be precise, and una know say that na 2k for naija.

Exactly what I did when I joined. Bu in my case and with God's grace, I made just enough to cover a month's subscription. So I went from the free trial to full plus the next month.

An onion seller suddenly noticed she has not seen a particular customer for a while, so she called the customer to find out if everything was okay. The customer was genuinely happy that the seller called. She also remembered HOW GOOD HER PRICES AND SERVICES were. Though she had no immediate need for onions, she told the seller that she will send her daughter to get some onions from her.

This may sound like an anecdote, but we all can learn from this. In this age and time, effective communication is about all we need to maintain any type of relationship - business and informal. We have people calling up their garri, yam, oil sellers on the phone, and telling them what they want. They will also say they won't come and collect those items by themselves, rather they will send someone. It takes a HUGE CUSTOMER SERVICE on the part of the seller to gain such TRUST

Bringing it nearer home, I will dwell on a little point that will highlight the importance of the bolded above.

How many of us are following our employers on FL? If you are not, you are missing a golden opportunity. But wait..... slow down. The hard work comes first.

Without GOOD PRICING, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, and TRUST, following your employer will not be of any benefit.

How many of us have bought an item from the market, and later saw where it was sold for 0.50k cheaper. Most times we feel we have been cheated without even checking if the QUALITY of the second item is the same as the one we bought. That is human nature.

Do you know that the gain market women make onba carton of beloxxi cream crackers is not up to N50? Why do they do this. They know they are in it FOR A LONG TIME. They know they are in a relationship-building venture. They know the only thing that can sustain them is a repeat customer. They know they can acquire many repeat customers by providing good prices, great customer services and trust.

So I ask, "how do you see your FL business?" How often have you seen a palm oil seller also selling cosmetics? As local and rustic as she may be, she knows her skill and specialization, and faces it with her full energy. Yes she knows that the restaurant woman down the road may be making more money, but she will never judge her the success of her palm oil business with the crowd in that restaurant.

I have seen many of us feel like they are wasting time with article writing because of the pay. Human nature. We've all been there. But do you realise that if you face article writing alone, and become so good at it, you can score writing projects of 100usd per 500 words. YES!! .....I know what you are thinking now. (On Freelancer?) NO!

Like ladywriter always say, article writing is like getting one's feet wet on FL. You are learning a whole business. You are learning pricing mechanics, customer service, skill development, international trade and finance etc. It is like any brick and mortar business.

You have American employers, how many of them did you send greetings on July 4? Or you do not even know what July 4 means to Americans?

If you do not want to get frustrated, have a realistic expectation. Do you know it takes some businesses from 6 to 12 months to break even, not to talk of profit? Patience man......patience woman. Rome was not built in a day. Do not take on skills you do not have passion for, just because you see someone making big from it. You may never be as successful. That person may have started 2 years ago. Pasion kept him that long. Are you willing to do it for 2 years before attaining that person's current success?

By all means, learn new skills. But make sure you are passionate in all. Passion is the only thing that will make you go the extra mile in satisfying your employers. Passion is the only thing that will keep you going when no jobs are forthcoming.

I may seem to have veered from the main thing I wanted to point out here, but all I have said so far MUST be realized before you can benefit from following your employer.

Once an employer you are following posts a new project, you will get a notification in your email with respect to that. FL will always tell us that our chances of getting hired by a former employer is very much higher than that of someone we have never worked for before.

Once you get the email alert, quickly check the project to see if it is within your skill and ability. If it is, then bid. This is where your integrity as a seller will either make you or mar you. If you have satisfied the employer previously, your chance of getting selected is high. If not, to your tents.......

I did a job for someone earlier this year. It was a Master's degree thesis. He wanted me to reduce the plagiarism content to less than 10% using Turnitin plagiarism tool. Only about 30% of the whole thesis was affected so it wasn't really a big deal. At my former rate of 2usd/500 words then, the worth of the project shouldn't be more than 50usd, and I could have finished it under 5 days. He simply told me he needed it in 2 weeks and offerred 80usd.

I did it in7 days, submitted it on the 10th day beating his expectations. His feedback was out of this world. We struck a good rapport.

He disappeared from my radar, and just last Monday, he posted a new project. I got the email alert and saw it was something I could do.

I decided not to bid. I rather elected to chat with him instead. (Please note that I have been sending hellos to him for months but no reply).

I started the chat and he was so happy. He immediately told me he just posted a project. He shared the details with me and asked if I can take it up though he only has 25usd budgeted for it. This is a simple proofreading of about 1000words job application letter.

He wanted it in 24 hours. I delivered in less than 11 hours.

They say, "Think outside the box."

I say, "Think like there is NO box."

The money she plans to make is the money she would charge you for helping you open a Payoneer account. that is if she would genuinely do it because fake ones are every where. and again she is not the owner of that car.

I hand registered a name on Godaddy and decided to check the name using Godaddy platform after i have paid for it lo and behold the name is already at Godaddy auction with a current bid of $799, i checked the name on whois and it is yet to be registered, i was surprised.

Few minutes later, i checked the same name on whois and the information returned bears my details, but when searched on Godaddy, is already listed for auction.

I went further to type the name in a browser and i received the information as seen in the image below.

Can someone explain this game to me?

It is not a game. This happens when you try to access the domain IMMEDIATELY (under 5 minutes) after registration. The auction thing is often a result of a former auction listing that wasn't delisted.

My Story ( The trick)

This guy had been asking me out for sometime, yesterday evening I decided to give him a shot. He took me to a nice bar somewhere around town. As we got seated, he ordered for a bottle of alcoholic wine. I told him I don't have a head for alcohol (which is a lie), that a little sip might make me tipsy (big lie), except he will promise to take me home if I get tipsy. He promised me that he will take me home. As we got drinking, this dude keep telling me how much he love me and want me to be the mother of his unborn kids, and that he will never hurt me, that I should give him a chance blah blah blah... He looked so innocent, charming and convincing. I told him to give me sometime to think about his proposal.

After emptying several glass of wine, at a point I decided to start the trick to test him, I started acting like I was drunk. I started talking out of point, dangling my head and making awkward hand gestures. He was convinced that I was drunk, yet he was still persuading me to drink more. At that moment I knew he was up to something, but I need to be sure. I took more glass of wine as he requested, after that I increased my acting. At a point he decided it was time to go , he held me as we were walking out toward his car i was staggering . As he help me into the car, he slightly touched my boobs. He did it to look like it was a mistake, but I knew he wanted to confirm my state of intoxication, so I didn't bug. As he gets into the car and drove the car, I pretended to have dozed up. At a point he stopped the car, got out and rushed into a pharmacy shop, I was just lying there like I was deep asleep with my eyes slightly open peeping at him. I guessed he was buying condoms , but I wasn't sure.

The next stop was in front of a hotel, he got down again and rushed inside. I guessed he went to book a room. He got back , helped me out of the car and inside the hotel. As we got to the reception, I decided the acting was enough, I forcefully pulled myself away from him, I called him a bloody liar , a rapist and all other hideous names I can't even remember. He was so astonished to see my eyes wide open. I also castigated the receptionist , I asked her how could she be their and watch a man drag an unconscious girl into a room . I even threatened to call the police to arrest them both. After that I walked out of the hotel gallantly leaving him there ashamed of himself. I took a taxi back home.

This is the 7th guy I have used this trick on , and they all failed woefully. The moment you start acting like you are intoxicated, the demon beneath the handsome, cool loving guy comes out to manifest. This got me thinking, are all guys rapist ? Is there any guy out there who can take an intoxicated girl to her house , without trying to take advantage of her condition? May God help us all.

No. You cannot bid on another project if you have an awarded project that is waiting to be accepted or declined.

someone even awarded a project to me without discussion. He created a 30usd milestone and sent a project detail that will last a whole lifetime... Then he refused to reply my enquiries for days. Of course I didn't accept the award and because I cannot bid on any other, I declined it.

So friends, creation of milestone IS NOT the only criteria for accepting an award. Some employers are cunny. Discuss the project details fully before accepting any award, even if he created a 1000usd milestone. My thought on this one is that this employer wants me to do 500usd worth of work for 30usd.

1. You cannot contact an employer through PM unless he initiates the conversation.
2. You can do this only from a PC. Look for and click My Projects. Then select the particular project you bid on, scroll down and you will see a box to type your comment.
3. On the same project page, you can see the flag/country but you will not have access to his profile. You can only do this when he initiates the PM. When he does, just click on his name beside his picture and the you will see his profile.
4. Your profile page is the page that has your picture and details on it. Once here, the page link is in the address bar, that is at the top where you see something like https://...... Everything there is your profile link
