Chidinho10: I completed a job for an employer who paid and provided feedback without hassles. To my greatest shock, I woke up this morning to discover that the money was reversed. I inquired from customer support and they said the employer has issues with the third party payment platform she used for paying the money. They promised to refund the money back to me when the issue is settle but I can also lose the funds when the issue is not settled. How can I suffer from my employer's problems? Why should I be charged for my employer's problems? I am angry cos the amount here is huge (from a huge project) and my account now is in negative. Have someone here experienced this?

Mr. man, fire sparks could be ignited because of static electricity and there must have being an electrical fault associated with fuel pump equipment to generate sparks, not because of flash as you were gullibly told in your village and in fact, modern mobile phones' batteries have been built in a way it could never cause such sparks in petrol stations unless you are charging it and at the same time making a call while fueling your car. Please inform your grandma in the village that you have misinformed her about flash being the reason phones are restricted and buy her a modern phone bro, no risk. I call that information, it has nothing to do with common sense as you naively said.

Will Smith stars in the new movie Concussion which is the real-life story of Nigerian-American doctor Bennet Ifekandu Omalu, the doctor who first discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (or CTE) after he conducted an autopsy on former NFL player Mike Webster. The movie follows Omalu’s struggle to get NFL executives to recognise the life threatening disease.
The movie is set for release in December.
While watching the movie trailer which was just released the one thing that struck me was Will Smith’s terrible “Nigerian” accent.
I do not know any Nigerian or Nigeria/American that speaks with the accent Will Smith is using in this movie. The accent sounds very East/Southern African to me. I would have expected an actor of Will Smith’s caliber to have done thorough research before taking on a movie like this and not followed the path of other mediocre actors who have also wrongly portrayed the Nigerian accent on film.
Surely it can’t be that hard to find Nigerians in America…I am disappointed…Big Willy fell my hand.
Americans need to realize Africans don’t all have the same accent…

I had a situation where an Indian employer set a $10 milestone for a $15 project and was telling me to go ahead and write that money was not the problem.
I knew he was trying to outsmart me but I twisted his arm by insisting that he should set a milestone for the full value of the project before I accept the offer and commence work.
After a loooooonnnnnggggg silence (probably weighing the quality of my work and not finding suitable writers), he agreed. I surprised him by delivering the 3-day project in 24 hours.

kachnov: Thank you tranxo,I'm aware of the cunning nature of most employers on FL,this has made me turn down few offers without proper definitions especially from Indians .I discussed the project details thoroughly with the employer and wasn't carried away by the project amount.However thanks for pointing out the difference between personal milestone and employer milestone. The last Australian I worked for confused me,he said FL only collects their commision after i get paid(tho he paid),so when i saw the huge comision on this brits project,i accepted anyway thinking FL will take their cut after project fee has been paid to me.I will chill a lil before contacting fl customer care,hoping the employer replies her msg soonest .Thanks
If it is a fixed project, the commission is taken immediately you accept the award. But if it is an hourly project, the commission is taken when you get paid. Kindly let us know how this issue is finally resolved. We all can learn a thing or two from it. Cheers

We have always pounded on the issue of milestone setting but I think we have not really separated the implication of the milestone a freelancer sets while bidding for projects, and the one the employer is required to create BEFORE a freelancer accepts a project.
There is a huge confusion here. In my opinion, the milestone we create during project bid is only an indication to the employer on what we are willing to accept for the job. This is not an assurance that the employer will pay this amount.
If an employer awards a project to you, DISCUSS with the employer on every detail of the project before you accept it. The most important thing is to demand that the employer set a milestone of an agreed amount before you accept the project. I have seen people get carried away by big project budget and accept projects without following due process. 1000gbp will leave you with at least 100gbp debit to your account. That is HUGE.!
Even if you get awarded a project, and the employer also creates a milestone at the same time, DO NOT accept the project without having a discussion first with the employer. A lot of cunny employers are on FL. I have had this experience. They will not write the full project description and go on to award you the project and also create a milestone equal to what you requested in the bid.
They will never reply all your messages until you accept the project, that is when they will now respond adding many other work to the original project description. This way you will Be forced to work more for less pay.
People please do not rush to work on FL without learning the ropes. kachnov I suggest you report this project to Freelancer support especially if the employer did not create any milestone. Tell them you are new and didn't understand the implication of accepting a project without milestone. Let them know that the employer has refused responding to your messages. Eddlad: I checked the counter and saw 0/103 bids left. Occasionally I get a bid or two, I don't really understand why and when I get it.
New bids are added for you 1 at a time depending on a set interval (determined by your level/membership). You do not have access to all the 100 bids at once.
