PoliticsNigeria Air Will Fly Before May 29 – Aviation Minister, Haidi Sirika by treesun(op): 2:59pm On Mar 23, 2023
Despite controversies surrounding the establishment of the national carrier, Nigeria Air, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation has revealed that local and international flights will commence soon.

The minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, made this revelation at the ongoing National Aviation Stakeholders Forum 2023 in Abuja on Thursday.

“Negotiation meeting with the Ethiopian Airlines Group Consortium and the Federal Government of Nigeria ongoing.

“Next step: Federal Executive Council approval of the Full Business Case.

“Operation of local and international flights will commence soon. Before the end of this administration, before May 29, we will fly,”
the minister said.

Speaking further, the minister said the benefits Nigeria stands to derive from the establishment of the national carrier are reduced capital flight from Nigeria; gain the optimal benefit of BASA and SAATM and develop an aviation hub.

Also, the National carrier will contribute to the GDP; facilitate hospitality and tourism; facilitate growth and development of the Nigerian Agricultural Sector and create jobs around the Agro-Cargo Terminals.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Mancity Vs Bayern Munich 11-04-2023 8pm by treesun(op):
Over the last few seasons, Manchester City have invariably been the favorites to win the Champions League. The Premier League title winners in four of the last five campaigns have one of the strongest squads on the continent. Their manager, Pep Guardiola, is widely regarded as one of the best of all time.

Yet despite having so many factors in their favor, City have continually fallen short. In 2019 they lost to Tottenham Hotspur, a team whom they finished a full 27 points above in the Premier League, in the quarter-finals.

The following season brought a shock defeat by Lyon at the same stage, before City reached their first final in 2021 - only to lose to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Last time around they looked destined to reach another final, but a stunning late comeback from Real Madrid in the semis knocked City out in dramatic fashion.

Will this season be different? One charge against Guardiola is that he often overthinks his team selection and tactics in Champions League knockout ties. Rather than selecting his best XI and backing them to emerge victorious, the tinkering Spaniard has seen several of his tweaks backfire.

Guardiola is unlikely to fall into the same trap this term. City are in fantastic form as they chase down Arsenal in the Premier League title race. And in Erling Haaland they have a generational goal scorer whose uncanny ability to put the ball in the back of the net can get his team out of any hole.

But City will have to do things the hard way. Even if they get past Bayern Munich, they will probably have to overcome Real Madrid in the semi-final. But the Champions League is not supposed to be easy, and City will no doubt relish the challenge.

Four hoodlums have been arrested with a pistol and a knife while on their way to polling units in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The hoodlums were arrested at Sapon in Abeokuta-South Local Government Area as the governorship and state house of assembly elections were commencing on Saturday morning.

A soldier at the roadblock in Sapon, who does not want his name in print because he’s not authorized to speak on the matter, confirmed to our correspondent that four persons have been arrested with dangerous weapons which include a gun and a knife.

He said, “When you see soldiers being hard on anyone, he is not just punishing anyone.

“We arrested four people with guns and knives. What are they doing with the gun and knife at the polling unit?

“I ask you, can you tell me what a voter wants to do with a gun and a knife?

“If they escape from the police, they cannot escape from soldiers; we will catch them.”

Meanwhile, another suspected hoodlum was seen doing a frog jump under the Sapon bridge after being caught by some security operatives.

PoliticsBandits Kill 10 In Fresh Kaduna Attack by treesun(op): 12:48pm On Mar 15, 2023
Again, terrorists have reportedly killed 10 persons, some still missing and four others injured in a fresh attack on the Langson community in the Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack was coming barely three days after Ungwan Wakili was attacked leading to the loss of 17 lives in the same Local Government Area.

The President of the Atyap Community Development Association, Mr Sam Achie, who confirmed the incident to The PUNCH, said 10 dead bodies had been recovered while others were still missing.

The ACDA president accused the military of complicity in the killings in the area.

According to him, the military checkpoints in the area are not doing anything to protect them.

He alleged that the attack on the village took place around three military checkpoints, but the military could not repel the attackers, but rather the military stopped some youths from neighbouring villages who wanted to come and render help.

“It was unfortunate until the attackers finished their operations before the military allowed the youths,” he lamented.

The military are sincerely not protecting us as they’re deployed. We are calling on the authority concerned to remove the military from the land.

“The carnage in Atyap communities was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise the people from voting a leader of their choice in the coming Saturday’s election.

“There are ongoing plans to disenfranchise our people from participating in the Saturday election,” he said, adding that, “the government’s silence over the attacks speak volume.”

The ACDA national president commended the Mopol in Langson community who were said to have repelled the attackers, even as he called on the people to continue to remain on alert to protect their communities and properties against the oppressors who are bent on taking their ancestral land.

The council chairman, Zango Kataf Local Government, Mr Francis Sani, while confirming the attack, appealed to the government to deploy more security agencies to Zango Kataf Local Government Area to arrest the recurring attacks on innocent lives and property in the area.

The PUNCH gathered that the attackers invaded the community at around 9pm on Tuesday, shot sporadically, and also looted a shop in the area before they were repelled by the Mopol.

PoliticsBuhari Passes The Buck As Nigerians Battle Cash Crunch by treesun(op): 9:17am On Mar 15, 2023
ADELANI ADEPEGBA writes on the reluctance of the Muhammadu Buhari regime to obey the Supreme Court order on the legal tender status of the old naira notes and how it finally succumbed to public pressure

Ten days after the Supreme Court extended the legal tender status of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes until December 31, the Central Bank of Nigeria reluctantly announced its compliance with the judgment in a late Monday night statement.

It added that the decision was taken during a bankers’ committee meeting in compliance with ‘the established tradition of obedience to court orders and sustenance of the rule of law.’ The directive signalled the end of the untold hardship faced by Nigerians for the past three months.

But the arrogant defiance of the order of the apex court, and insensitivity to the hardship occasioned by the thoughtless and poorly implemented naira redesign policy marked a terrible denouement to the eight years of the Muhammadu Buhari regime.

Apparently taking a cue from the President who has over the years displayed utter disregard for court orders despite pretensions to the rule of law, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, withstood public pressure, ignored appeals and also scorned threats of a contempt charge in open resistance to reason and the law. The CBN’s delayed action on the apex court judgment is the icing on Buhari’s disrespect for judicial orders.

In the three months, the battle against the CBN policy lasted, there was acute scarcity of cash across the country which resulted in riots, the destruction of businesses and property and the death of many citizens.

The commercial banks failed to cope with the exigency of the crisis. An increase in failed payment transactions in February caused a 4.83 per cent decrease in the value of cashless transactions to N37.67tn from the N39.58tn that was recorded in January 2023.

This came as the usage of e-payment gateways recorded a 41.29 per cent month-on-month increase according to new data from Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System. Claims that the economy was ready for the cashless policy turned out to be false as the banking system failed the stress test as demonstrated by the alarming increase in the number of failed transactions.

Before the barbarism provoked by the CBN policy played out, the governments of Kaduna, Zamfara and Kogi States had on February 3 dragged the Federal Government to the Supreme Court to challenge the policy. On February 8, the court in its wisdom restrained the FG from ending the legal status of the old naira notes on February 10 as announced by the CBN.

Justice John Okoro issued an order of interim injunction “restraining the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria or the commercial banks from suspending or determining or ending on 10 February, the time frame with which the now older version of the 200, 500 and 1,000 denominations of the naira may no longer be legal tender pending the hearing and determination of their motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.”

The application, being ex parte, was not served on the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, who was sued in the case as the representative of the Federal Government. Only the applicants’ lawyer, Abdulrakeem Mustapha, SAN, was heard by the court.

Okoro, after listening to the applicants’ lawyer granted the application as prayed, a decision he said his panel took after “a careful consideration.” The court, after issuing the order, adjourned until February 15 for a hearing of the main suit.

On the next adjourned date, the court joined the Attorneys-General of Katsina, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti and Sokoto States as co-plaintiffs. The AGs of Edo and Bayelsa states were joined as co-respondents while the matter was extended by one week till February 22.

Thinking himself to be the state and above the law, Buhari in a broadcast on February 16 directed that only the N200 note will remain legal tender for the next 60 days. In flagrant violation of the restraining order made by the apex court, he said the old N500 and N1,000 notes had ceased to be legal tender and should be returned to the CBN. The order generated widespread anger and strengthened the notion that the President has scant regard for the courts.

Governors who are naturally deferential to Buhari came short of calling him a tyrant. Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai asked the residents of his state to discountenance the President’s directive.

In a counter-state broadcast, the governor said, “The address by the President earlier this morning limiting the legal tender status of old notes to only N200 amounts to total disregard and disobedience of the ruling of February 8 which was extended further yesterday by the Supreme Court.

“The misguided action of the Attorney-General to mislead the President into engaging in this public violation of the order of the highest court of the land shows how desperate the policy architects are to cause national chaos, by showing open contempt for the judiciary.”

The authorities in Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Ogun, Lagos and Kwara States also directed residents to continue spending the old notes, insisting that the Supreme Court order remained valid.

However, the growing anger over the cash crisis soon boiled over as protesting customers torched banks and destroyed Automated Teller Machines in Edo and Delta states. The violence, which paralysed social and economic activities in the two states, also claimed three lives while many others were injured during the riot.

The protests equally spread to Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Benue and Kwara states. Residents vented their anger over the scarcity of cash which had made life unbearable for many Nigerians. Traders in border communities were forced to accept CFAs due to the scarcity of naira notes.

While the citizens who have been largely impoverished by the economic policies of the All Progressives Congress regime lamented the ill-conceived naira redesign initiative which had further compounded their existential challenges, the AGF and the CBN governor were aloof and unconcerned.

On March 3, a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice Okoro delivered its much-awaited judgment. The verdict which was described as a victory for the people held that the old notes will remain legal tender till December 31. The court said the President breached the constitution in the manner he issued directives for the redesigning of the naira.

On the disobedience of the Supreme Court’s earlier order on the new notes, Justice Emmanuel Agim said Buhari’s broadcast that only the N200 note should remain legal tender made the country’s democracy look like a mere pretension.

Berating the retired general for his hypocritical pretensions, Agim stated, “The rule of law upon which our democratic governance is founded becomes illusory if the President of the country or any authority or person refuses to obey the orders of courts.

“The disobedience of orders of courts by the President in a constitutional democracy as ours is a sign of the failure of the constitution and that democratic governance has become a mere pretension and is now replaced by autocracy or dictatorship.”

Characteristic of the Katsina man in the Presidential Villa, there was no reaction from the Presidency for 10 days after the reprimand from the temple of justice. Media inquiries about compliance with the judicial order were equally rebuffed by Buhari’s aides.

Dismayed by the lack of respect for the court order, the Nigerian Bar Association demanded immediate obedience to the judgment, insisting that Nigerians can no longer tolerate any form of dictatorship in a democratic government exemplified by the disobedience to the judgment by the President and his AGF.

“We cannot under any guise or pretence accept or tolerate any appearance of autocracy or dictatorship. Our system of democratic governance has come to stay, it must not only be respected by all and sundry but must also be jealously guarded and protected,’’ the NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, insisted.

PoliticsSanwo-olu’s Visit To Oyedepo Not Political — Aide by treesun(op): 2:56pm On Mar 14, 2023
Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that his principal’s visit to the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has nothing to do with politics.

Sanwo-Olu had shared a picture of himself and Oyedepo on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday with the caption that read, “Yesterday was indeed a memorable day as I met with a man after God’s own heart, a man who has dedicated his life to the service of God and mankind. A highly respected man of God, whom I hold in high regard. Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel) and presiding Bishop of the Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State.”

This sparked reactions from some Nigerians who claimed that the governor has been going from one church to another in a desperate bid to get votes ahead of Saturday’s election.

However, in response to an inquiry on the purpose of the visit, the governor’s CPS, Akosile, on Tuesday was quoted by Daily Independent to have said linking Sanwo-Olu’s visit to politics was absurd as he had always visited Oyedepo in times past when there was no election.

Akosile said, “No, the governor’s visit has nothing to do with politics. If you have been following the activities of Governor Sanwo-Olu, you would have noticed that he’s a thoroughbred Christian. He’s a man who values relationships especially with the leadership of the Church.

“He has paid visits to Bishop Oyedepo on many occasions in the past when there was no election and this particular visit is not an exception.

“Bishop Oyedepo is a man of God whom the Governor respects so much. He has been a beneficiary of his scriptural teachings and blessings. It is preposterous for anyone to link the Governor’s visit to politics or elections. No, it is not.”

Sanwo-Olu is vying for re-election as a second-term governor of Lagos State in Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The Labour Party victory over the APC’s Bola Tinubu in Lagos in the February 25 presidential election brought a twist to Lagos politics with Sanwo-Olu’s ruling party believed to be unsettled by its loss in one of its strongholds.

DearGorgeous:
General Adebayo Writes Open Letter To Tinubu

My dear Asiwaju,

I am compelled to write this open letter to you because of the state of affairs of the Yoruba nation. Firstly, I wish to acknowledge that fate has put you in a prime position to determine to a large extent the direction that the Yoruba people will go.

The indisputable truth is that one may quarrel with your politics but your sagacity is never in doubt. Even those who don’t see eye to eye with you agree that you are imbued with unusual native intelligence, uncommon people skills and unrivaled foresight. You, more than any other person, has been the game changer since the advent of democracy in 1999. It is for these reasons that I have chosen to direct this letter to you.

My singular purpose is to tug at the strings of your heart. I am not writing to appeal to partisan considerations but to see, if per chance, I can pour out my heart to you in a manner of speaking. God has blessed you even beyond your wildest imagination. You have installed Senators and Governors. You have removed Governors and even a President. You have also installed a President.

There is nothing you have wished for or desired that you didn’t get. Fortune has smiled on you. Goodwill follows you everywhere you go. You have done very well- more than most men ever will. However, there is one area that is begging for your urgent attention.

This area may well define you and all you have ever achieved. This matter, in my opinion, is the only difference between you and the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Let me restate for the purpose of emphasis that this is the area in which the late sage and Leader of the Yorubas stand head and shoulders above you. It is the reason his name has been a constant denominator in our regional and national politics.

It is the reason politicians, friends and foes invoke his name for political advantage and personal glory. It is also the reason why we can’t stop talking about him almost thirty years after his death. What will anyone say about you thirty years after you have transited?

Asiwaju Sir, you may be wondering what I’m talking about?

It is the issue of legacy. According to Peter Strople, ‘Legacy is not leaving something for people, it is leaving something in people’. Legacy is building something that outlives you. Legacy is greater than currency. In the words of Leonard Sweet, ‘ What you do is your history. What you set in motion is your legacy’.

You can’t live forever, Sir. No one can. But you can create something that will. Enough of speaking in parables- I shall now speak plainly.

When destiny brought you on the scene, we were enamoured because you championed the case for true federalism.

It was your belief then that the Yoruba nation will fare better under a restructured arrangement than under the type of unitary government we run while pretending by calling it a federal government. Everyone knows that there is nothing federal about our government at all.

If truth must be told, the Yoruba nation has fared very badly since the advent of our new democracy. And this is not about holding power at the centre.

Let me bring this home: someone passed a comment recently that he would want Biafra to become a reality because he knows the Igbo nation will survive.

That comment led me to deeper introspection as I wondered if the Yorubas can truly survive. Let me cite my first example. From Oyo to Osun, Ogun to Ondo, Ekiti to Kwara and Lagos, hardly will one see any serious industry or manufacturing concern owned by a Yoruba person. I am not talking about portfolio businesses or one-man business concerns.

Most industries in Oyo State are owned by the Lebanese. The native business and industry gurus who dominated the landscape- Nathaniel Idowu, Amos Adegoke, Lekan Salami, Alao Arisekola, Adeola Odutola, Jimoh Odutola, Chief Theophilus Adediran Oni and others- are all gone with no credible replacements. I’m sure you remember the tyre factory of the Odutolas and how Jimoh Odutola was even asked by the Governments of Kenya and Ghana to set up a similar factory in their countries. Chief Theophilus Adediran Oni, popularly called T.A Oni & Sons started the first indigenous construction company in Nigeria.

He willed his residence- Goodwill House, to the Oyo/Western state government, to be used as a Paediatric Hospital, which is now known as T.A Oni Memorial Children Hospital at Ring Road in Ibadan. This sprawling family Estate and residence was cited on a 15acre piece of land, 65 rooms, with modern conveniences, Olympic Swimming Pool and stable for Horses, etc.

People like Chief Bode Akindele started companies like Standard Breweries and Dr Pepper Soft drink factory at Alomaja in Ibadan.

Broking House built by the late Femi Johnson, an insurance magnate, still stands glittering in the mid-day sun as an epitome to a rich history that Ibadan has. The most serious and only notable Yoruba entrepreneur we have now is Michael Adenuga. I say this quite consciously because most of the other names are oil and gas barons.

Most of what stood as testaments of industry in Oyo State are gone- Exide Batteries, Leyland Autos and many others. In its place are shopping malls and road side markets but no nation develops through buying and selling alone- especially when you’re not actually producing what you’re selling. Hypermarkets and supermarkets have taken over because of the need to feed our insatiable consumer-appetite and foreign tastes.

In one instance, an ancient landmark in the form of a hotel was demolished to pave way for a mall. That is how low we have sunk. If our past is better than our present- if we always look back with nostalgia frequently, then there is a problem.

The case of other states is not different. Osun’s case is pathetic. Ditto for Ondo and Ekiti. Ogun State can boast of some factories at Sango-Otta and Agbara axis but most of them are not owned by the Yorubas.

There is no significant pharmaceutical company owned by any Yoruba except for Bond Chemicals in Awe, Oyo State- and its wallet share is very insignificant. For Lagos State, more than 70% of the manufacturing concerns and major industries in the State are owned by the Igbos.

If the Igbos were to stop paying tax in Lagos State, the IGR of Lagos State will reduce by over 60%. In contrast, Sir, go to the South East and look at the manufacturing concerns in Onitsha, Aba and Nnewi. Please don’t forget those were areas ravaged by civil war a mere forty something years ago.

The Igbos have certainly made tremendous progress but the Yoruba nation has regressed. I wish to state that this letter is not meant to whip up primordial considerations or ethnic sentiments but just to put things in proper perspective.

Asiwaju, I will like to also talk about the state of education in the Yoruba nation. Our education has gone to the dogs.

We have a bunch of mis-educated and ill-educated young men and women roaming the streets. Ibadan, for instance, had the first University in Nigeria and the first set of research centres in Nigeria (The Forestry Research Institute, the Cocoa Research Institute (CRIN), The Nigerian Cereal Research Institute Moor Plantation (NCRI), the NIHORT (Nigerian Institute of Horticultural Research), the NISER (Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research), IAR&T (Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training), amongst several others). Ibadan was the bastion of scholarship with people like Wole Soyinka, JP Clark, D.O Fagunwa and Amos Tutuola as residents.

In the May/June 2015 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, Abia came tops. Anambra came 2nd while Edo was 3rd.

Lagos placed 6th while Osun and Oyo was 29th and 26th. Ekiti was 11th, Ondo State was 13th and Ogun State was 19th. In 2013 WASSCE, only Lagos and Ogun States were the Yoruba States above the national average.

If we do an analysis of how Lagos placed 6th in 2015, you will discover that it was substantially because of other nationalities resident in Lagos.

For proof, please look no further than the winners of the Spelling Bee competition which has produced One-Day Governors in Lagos State.

Since inception in 2001, other nationalities have won the competition six times (Ebuka Anisiobi in 2001, Ovuwhore Etiti in 2002, Abundance Ikechukwu in 2006, Daniel Osunbor in 2008, Akpakpan Iniodu Jones in 2011 and Lilian Ogbuefi in 2012).

Sir, there is something seriously wrong about our state of education. From the vintage times of Obafemi Awolowo who initiated ‘free education’, we have regressed into a most parlous state.

Let me talk about roads, housing and infrastructure .

The first dualized road in Nigeria, the Queen Elizabeth road from Mokola to Agodi in Ibadan was formally commissioned by Queen Elizabeth in 1956.

The first Housing Estate in Nigeria is Bodija Housing Estate (also in Ibadan) which was built in 1958. The state of roads in the Yoruba nation has become pathetic.

Our hinterland are still largely rural. Even some state capitals like Osogbo and Ado-Ekiti are big villages when you compare them to towns in the South East. How many new estates have been built over the last decade? Even Ajoda New Town lies in ruins.

We have abandoned the farm settlement strategy of the Western Region and only pay lip service to agriculture.

Instead of feeding others like we once did, others now feed us. We plant no tomatoes, no pepper and the basic food that we require. The Indians have bought the large expanse of water body that we have in Onigambari village.

The water body in Oke Ogun of Oyo State can provide enough fish to feed the whole of the South West. From being a major cocoa exporter many years ago, one can point to just a few vestiges of factories that still deal with Cocoa in the Yoruba nation.

80% of Cocoa processing industries in the South West have been shut down. The Chinese have taken over the cashew belt at Ogbomoso in Oyo State. They have even edged out the indigenes as brokers.

They now come to the cashew belt to buy from the local farmers, sell on the spot to other Chinese exporters who now process the cashew nuts and import them back into Nigeria at a premium.

Sir, there are only 7 major cashew processing plants in Nigeria and you can check out the ownership. The glory has departed from the Yoruba nation.

Apart from Asejire, Ede, Ikere Gorge and Oyan dams built ages ago, where are the new dams to cater for increased population and water capacity for the Yoruba nation?

How have we improved on what our heroes past left us? Maybe apart from certain areas in Lagos State, others can’t even supply their citizens with pipe-borne water.

Our youth which we used to take pride in are largely a mass of unemployed and unemployable people. Have you noticed the abundance of street urchins, area boys, touts and ‘agberos’ that we now have all across the Yoruba nation?

Have you noticed the swell in the ranks of NURTW (I mean no disrespect to an otherwise noble union)? Have you noticed the increase in the number of Yoruba beggars?

There was a time that it was taboo for a Yoruba man to beg- but no more. The spirit of apprenticeship is dead. There was a time that people who learn vocational skills celebrate what we referred to as ‘freedom’. While that is largely moribund now in the Yoruba nation, the Igbos still practice it with great success.

The only thing we can boldly say the Yoruba nation controls is the information machinery- the press. We own largely the newspapers- the Nation, Punch, Nigerian Tribune, TV Continental and a few others.

It is because of our control of this information machinery that we have rewritten the narrative in the country with the misguided self-belief that things are normal and we are making progress. A look beyond the surface will prove that this is so untrue.

We are largely divided. For the first time in the history of the Yoruba nation, religion is about to divide us further- and it is starting from Osun State. You are married to a Christian.

My own father-in-law is an Alhaji. That is how we have peacefully do-existed but the fabrics are about to be torn to shreds because of poor management of issues. Afenifere has been reduced to a shadow of itself. OPC that once defended Yoruba interests has gone into oblivion.

Yoruba elders have been vilified in the name of politics and partisanship. It is no longer news to see teenagers throwing stones at their elders because of their political indoctrination. Even under the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Yorubas never belonged to just a single party- yet our unity was without blemish. Now, our values have gone down the drain.

Asiwaju, I believe I have said enough.

The task is Herculean but I believe Providence has brought you here for such a time like this. It is time for the Yoruba nation to clean up its acts. What do we really want?

How can we quickly right the wrongs? The Yoruba nation is in a state of arrested development.

The Yoruba nation is gasping for breath and crying for help. Will you rise up to the occasion? I am aware you understand that all politics is local and charity begins at home. Our fathers gave us a proverb: ‘Bi o’ode o dun, bi igbe ni’gboro ri’.

I know there are no quick fixes but I also know that if there is anyone who has the capacity to do something about our current situation, that person is you. This should be the legacy you should think of. Your legacy is our future.

Yours Very Sincerely,

Adebayo Adeyinka

Iyin-Ekiti.

Some bandits were reported to have killed six vigilante members at Awaro checkpoint in the western part of Birnin-Gwari, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the incident took place at about 4.00pm on Wednesday.

A vigilante member, Usman Babangida, who was mourning the death of his colleagues, told newsmen on Wednesday that the bandits attacked the checkpoint in huge number.

He added that the hoodlums shot sporadically on sighting the vigilante members, killing no fewer than six of them.

According to him, those killed have been buried in accordance to Muslim rites.

Babangida said the incident occurred just as the hoodlums clashed with other bandits at a nearby community named Bugai.

He couldn’t confirm the casualty figures arising from the clash as of the time of filing this report.

“The incident happened around 4:00pm when the bandits were passing through the Awaro checkpoint and attacked the local vigilantes on sighting them. They killed all the six vigilante members on the spot, until some villagers discovered their bodies and later conveyed them to the town,” he said.

There was no official reaction either from the state government or the police.

A call put to the Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Jalige, indicated that his telephone line was busy.

However, there was no response to the text message sent to his telephone by our correspondent.

PoliticsPDP Will Not Stop Protesting, Says Atiku by treesun(op): 2:09pm On Mar 06, 2023
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the just concluded February 25 elections, said the protest embarked upon by the party would continue for a long time.

“In fact, this protest will continue for a very long time, either every day or any other day,” Atiku told Arise TV reporter in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, during the Monday protest.

The PUNCH reports that Atiku led the PDP leaders as well as supporters to storm the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, wearing black clothes in protest against the just concluded presidential election that saw the All progressives Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu, declared winner of the presidential poll.

Reacting to the protest, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the just concluded February 25 polls, Omoyele Sowore lauded the action.

Sowore, who many referred to as an activist said activism was not different from politics.

“After all, activism is not different from politics. Good to see @atiku @OfficialPDPNig fight for electoral justice, everyone must engage in civil disobedience to extinguish the monumental injustice perpetrated by @inecnigeria, except that for us revolutionaries we don’t get the privilege to have the Department of State Services and police bodyguards to protect us during protests like this, they usually unleash the police, soldiers and the DSS on us with absolute cruelty!”

PoliticsBorno PDP Mulls Court Action Over Feb 25 Election Results by treesun(op): 1:22pm On Mar 06, 2023
The Peoples Democratic Party in Borno State may drag the governing All Progressives Congress in the state to court over the results of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

APC won the presidential election in the state as well as all the three senatorial and nine of the ten of House of Representatives seats in the state.
“We have been robbed,” the Borno State PDP governorship candidate, Mohammed Jajari, alleged at a news conference in Maiduguri on Monday, saying “we will challenge the result before the court.”

He alleged that the February 25 election was flawed with “a lot of irregularities comprising inflated votes, change of result sheets and the failure to use BVAS machines.”

Jajari explained that all stakeholders and officials of the opposition party had been holding consultations on the need to challenge the election results in court.

He, however, urged all the party supporters in the state to turn out en masse to cast their votes at the March 11 governorship and state assembly election.

“They are only complaining after failing to their homework well to win the elections,” Borno State APC Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, reacted to the PDP allegation, saying, “we are waiting for them to go to court with evidences.”
