A police patrol team van has collided with another police van which was on what looked like a military convoy that was on a show-of-force exercise around the city. The incident which happened at about 3:30 PM caused gridlock at the Jabi Garage traffic intersection, on Obafemi Awolowo Way, Abuja, yesterday. Our reporters who went to the scene of the crash learnt that vehicles on the convoy were parked beside the Jabi Garage, in front of Conoil, when the patrol van with registration number NPF 133D rammed into the parked Hilux with plate number PF4563 Spy. Ismaila Sadiq, a witness said “the police patrol team Hilux van was attempting to avoid hitting a Peugeot 406 that was in front of it as it turned left, coming from Solomon Lar Way and heading to Julius Berger Roundabout when it rammed into the parked Hilux. ”Miss Chioma Udoh, a pedestrian corroborated the account of Sadiq. She said the crash caused traffic jam at the intersection for about 45 minutes. She, however, said the army personnel on the convoy joined the police to control the traffic congestion. City News learnt that the patrol van belonged to the Utako Police Division. When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the division, CSP Gbenle Jimoh, confirmed that the van belonged to the division. He directed our reporters to the traffic officer of the division for more details on the crash but our reporters did not meet him in the office. @NAIRATREND GIST VIA- https://nairatrend.com.ng/photos-of-police-vehicle-as-it-crashes-with-military-convoy-in-abuja/

Russian government has rejected request by supporters of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to bring in live chickens into the Kaliningrad Stadium. The Kaliningrad Stadium is the venue of Super Eagles’ World Cup opener against Croatia. The match is slated for Saturday 8pm. The Supporters believe that live chicken painted in green and white, brings goodluck for their team. Speaking about the request by the Nigerian supporters, Russian Minister of Culture and Tourism, Andrei Ernak, told interfax.ru that there is no way the supporters from West Africa would be allowed into the stadium with live chickens. Ernak said, ”Our information center FM-2018 receives a lot of various questions. “So, fans from Nigeria asked whether it is possible to go to the stadium with a chicken. This is their symbol, citizens are seen with them in all matches. “We told them that it’s by no means possible to come with a live chicken. ”But if the Nigerians are rooting for their team in other places, we will of course advise them where the chicken can be bought. The Nigerian supporters made the same request 8 years ago in South Africa. Nigeria fans were turned away from Ellis Park in Johannesburg after demanding to take chickens, painted green into the stadium where the team lost 1-0 to Argentina. @NAIRATREND SOURCE- https://nairatrend.com.ng/world-cup-russia-bans-nigerian-supporters-from-bringing-live-chicken-into-stadium/

The national chairman of Labour Party, Mike Omotosho, has accused former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, of attempting to destabilise the party, vowing that his attempt to return to the party would be resisted. The party also said it had no candidates in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti state which is scheduled to hold on July 14. Mr Omotosho made this disclosure on Wednesday during press conference in Abuja, titled “Once Bitten, Twice Shy – Nigerian Workers Reject Plans by Olusegun Mimiko To Return to Labour Party”. Mr Mimiko, in his letter of resignation which he addressed to the PDP in the state on Wednesday, said his reasons for resigning from the party were “personal” and “well thought-out.” “I hereby with utmost humility inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the PDP with effect from today, June 13, 2018 for some well thought-out personal reasons,” the former two term governor, said. The medical doctor-turned politician came into office in 2009 on the platform of the LP and was re-elected in 2012 but moved the entire structure of the party to the PDP on the exigencies of the 2015 presidential election. The LP chairman, Mr Omotosho, said the sole purpose of Mr Mimiko’s re-approach to the Labour party is to use the workers’ party to launder his sagging political image. “Nigeria would recall that Dr. Mimiko abandoned the Labour party for the People’s Democratic party a few days to Labour Party’s October 2015 National Convention,” he said. Mr Omotosho also said “the Nigeria Labour Congress wishes to disown and condemn recent posturing and proclamation by some politicians in Ekiti state”. “Workers and the Ekiti electorate should not allow themselves to be hoodwinked by the antics of political impostors,” he said. He said all political aspirants in the Labour party are requested to deal only with the screening committee of the party. Similarly, the president of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, said the Labour Party was building a very strong democratic culture from the grassroot. “Labour Party is made up of market women, workers and civil society. We are the owners of the party and we must give directions to the party so that nobody will just wake up and say they are leaders of the party.” According to him, the party is against the attitude of people who will just come and use the party and leave when they have found their level. The president said it was wrong for people to use the name of the party without even the party officials being aware. Mr Wabba said the party was built on ideological perspective while noting that it was also building a democratic culture to wade opportunities off. “So we are warning people against fraudsters. This is a disclaimer, so anybody that does that does that on his own,” he concluded. @NAIRATREND SOURCE- https://nairatrend.com.ng/shocking-labour-party-rejects-mimikos-return/

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned one Philemon Gora in a Federal High Court, Abuja for allegedly operating a bank without a valid license. EFCC operatives Gora was arraigned along with his company, Cash Flow Global Fund Investment on a two-count charge of operating a bank without license and consenting to carrying out banking business without a valid license. “”That you Philemon Gora, knowingly consented to the carrying on of banking business without a valid license issued to the company. “You thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 49(1) of the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act and punishable under Section 2 of the same act,’’ one of the charges read. Gora pleaded not guilty to the charges stressing, “I am not guilty because I have a valid license’’. Following an oral application for bail by his counsel, Mr Alex Marema, the judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu admitted him to bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, the judge said must be officers, not below grade level 16 and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court. The judge said the sureties should deposit their two recent passport photographs with the court. The prosecuting counsel, Mr G.K. Latona had objected to the oral application for bail on the ground that the defendant, having stated in the dock that he had a valid license, would continue to operate the bank if granted bail. Latona also told the court that over 60 million Nigerians were customers of the bank with over N2 billion in the bank. The judge however said that she was mindful to grant Gora bail because she understood his statement that he had a valid license to mean that he was not guilty of the charge and not otherwise. She said that she considered the oral application for bail of the accused in the interest of justice taking into cognisance the coming public holiday. She adjourned the matter until Oct. 2 and Oct. 10 for commencement of trial SOURCE- https://nairatrend.com.ng/efcc-arraigns-man-for-alleged-illegal-bank-operation/
