Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has claimed Kepa Arrizabalaga’s controversial refusal to be substituted in the Carabao Cup final has been a good thing for the team.

The goalkeeper refused to come off against Man City late in extra-time, waving off his manager, who was trying to put back-up Willy Caballero in the match.

Kepa ended up staying on the pitch and took part in a penalty shootout after 120 scoreless minutes, with City emerging victorious.

Though Sarri was visibly furious on the pitch, he and the goalkeeper tried to calm things down after the game, insisting the incident was only a misunderstanding.

“As you know, for me, it was really very important the performance in the final against Manchester City,” Sarri said.

“Two weeks before that match we lost 6-0 in Manchester. A fortnight later, the players were able to play at the same level as them, so that was important for our confidence.”

The Italian even went as far as to say that the incident with Kepa, which many saw as evidence Sarri’s players were tuning him out, was a net positive for his team.

“In the end, the Kepa situation was a good thing for our group, too,” Sarri said.

“In the last five matches, we won four matches and drew against Manchester City. In five matches, we conceded only one goal. So we are improving in consistency.

“But we have to be careful. We had a long period of good results in the past and then, suddenly, two weeks of disaster. So we have to be careful.”

Chelsea look to make it four wins in a row when they face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

Voting commenced early on Saturday in some parts of Lagos, newsmen report.

At polling units 45 and 40 in Ward 8 in the Alimosho Local Government Area, in Egbeda, the electorates were seen arriving as early as 6:15am.

The electoral officials arrived the polling units with their materials at 7: 05 am, while the electorates waited patiently.

Reports have it that electoral materials were being arranged by the officials and ready for the electioneering process at about 7:57am.

The officials first enlightened the electorate on the processes involved in voting and how to avoid mistakes.

This was followed by pasting of voter lists on the wall for easy identification.

At the time of filling this report, electorate were joining queues and beginning to cast their votes .

NAN confirmed that voting commenced at precisely 8:15 am.

Tragedy struck on Wednesday on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State, after a truck rammed people on the road during a rescue operation.

Punch learnt that an accident involving two vehicles had earlier occurred at the Muhammadu Buhari Estate end of the road on the outskirt of Abeokuta around 1pm.

Policemen and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were said to be rescuing the victims when a Mack truck suddenly appeared on the accident scene.


Three people, said to be bystanders, were killed on the spot.

The Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Clement Oladele, said the truck driver was flagged down, but he could not stop because he had lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeding.

He said, “The crash happened around 1pm. Two vehicles, a Honda Accord and a Toyota Corrola, were involved in the crash.

“However, in the process of the rescue and clearing of the obstruction, a speeding Mack truck lost control despite being flagged down; the road was cordoned off. The speeding truck went to the road shoulder and ran over the people standing by the roadside. He killed three of them.”

Oladele said two female adults and a man were the victims.

He noted that while the injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a mortuary.

Janice Freeman, who was a contestant on popular singing competition show “The Voice“ in 2017, has died.

The 33 year old singer had an extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot traveled to her heart. Freeman’s husband, Dion, performed CPR until an ambulance took her to a local hospital, where she died on Saturday.

“A survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world, Janice gained notoriety through her success on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ as a member of Miley Cyrus’ team,” a statement said. “Her story inspired fans nationwide, having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus.”

Freeman ended up joining Cyrus’ team and made it to the top 11 before she was eliminated.
The singer remained close with Cyrus even after the season ended.
