Spending much time playing games and solving puzzles that won't add anything to your bank account is waste of time.
There are many businesses that keep ones brain busy. Most business men don't have time for that and are still good in calculating figures

Education / Graduates Without Certificates by triumphadler: 8:37pm On Aug 05, 2021
Five years after completing their studies for a Postgraduate Diploma in Education PGDE, ex-students of the National Teachers’ Institute in the South-West region have lamented the failure of the institution to release their results or issue their certificates.

The ex-students said their career in their respective workplaces had been affected, adding that despite completing the required payment, including school fees, efforts to get their notification of result or certificates had proved abortive.

NTI has been running their PGDE programme in affiliation with the National Open University of Nigeria until 2017 when it decentralised the programme into six zones.

The six zones are the North-Central, North-East, North-West, South-West, South-East and South-South, and are attached to different universities.

One of the affected ex-students said that since the decentralisation, all those who partook in the programme in the South-West are yet to receive their results or certificates, adding that they were affiliated to the University of Ibadan.

The ex-student said, “The management of the NTI and the University of Ibadan are holding on to our results since 2017, causing untold hardship to us.

The NTI PGDE program is structured to run within a session for working class students, who intend to become professional and certified teachers.

“This programme was affiliated to the NOUN before, but in 2017, there was decentralisation into six zones. Each zone was affiliated to different universities and our zone, the NTI South-West, was affiliated to the University of Ibadan. Since then, the management of UI has been sitting on our results.

“Students, who participated in the programme in 2017, 2018 and 2019, have not collected any results or certificates up till now, and the NTI Management has been playing pranks with them without disclosing the problems between it and UI.

“Out of the six zones, students in the South-West are the ones that are yet to get their results and certificates. But the NTI in the South-West Zone keeps admitting students every year for the programme in the region when it has not released any results and certificates for three consecutive sets.”

Another ex-student said some affected persons had lost their teaching jobs and international teaching offers, among other opportunities, due to the unresolved issues between the management of the NTI in the South-West and the management of the UI, which had affected the processing of their results/certificates.

The ex-student stated, “It was hell before the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria allowed us to take the qualifying exam in 2019 and despite the fact that many of us passed the exam, we could not get our TRCN results and certification as certified teachers, because the NTI in the South-West and UI failed to release our results.

“We had engaged the Akure Zonal Coordinator and Lagos State Coordinator of the NTI since last year, but nothing positive came out of the engagements. They keep putting the blame on the University of Ibadan for not releasing our results and never told us they had affiliation issues with the University of Ibadan by defaulting in paying affiliation fees to UI till date.”

When contacted, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, Toyin Fape, declined to comment, but stressed that the Director-General, NTI, was in the best position to react to the complaints of the affected ex-students.

She said, “I am not in the best position to attend to you since the complaints are meant for the Diirector-general and chief executive. I am not the Director-Genera and cannot say anything to the press.

“We are to conduct programmes and exams. It is only the Director-General and chief executive, who can attend to any complaints about the programme. It is a national programme.”

When asked to be linked with the Director-General and Chief Executive, NTI HQ Kaduna, Prof Garba Azare, the zonal coordinator, Fape, declined to provide his contact to our correspondent.

“The person, who gave you my number, should be able to give you the Director-General’s number. Tell the person to look for it; if the person was able to get my number, the person should be able to get that one for you,” she stated.
