Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari
Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has said he did not plan to lose the Boko Haram war as is being suggested by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the Punch, Jonathan spoke on Sunday in reaction to an interview Buhari granted the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation. In the interview, Buhari accused the Jonathan administration of deliberately provoking Nigerian soldiers into mutiny by its actions and turning round to arrest and prosecute the soldiers.
He said the past administration, while fighting terrorists, sent soldiers to the battlefield without arms and ammunition. Jonathan, however, said he tried to protect the constitution, which had had sworn to defend when he assumed office.
The former president, who spoke through his then Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, said he did everything within his power to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
“No responsible government would strategise to lose a war. President Jonathan sworn to defend Nigeria sovereignty and territorial integrity and he did everything possible to achieve that height in the fight against the insurgents,”a text message by Suleiman said.
“It is unfair therefore for Mr. President to perceive such efforts by his predecessor as criminal and treasonable.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received more evidence linking former junior Minister for Defence Musiliu Obanikoro, who now is hiding abroad, with the infamous Ekitigate election scandal of June 2014 and the related plot to rig the Osun State gubernatorial election, SaharaReporters has learned.
According to a source, the commission obtained financial transaction information and witness testimonies connecting Mr. Obanikoro with a group of companies which received at least N1.45 billion to rig the two governorship elections last year.
The N1.45 billion was allegedly funneled into the accounts of five companies, all of which were under the control of Mr. Obanikoro. The evidence of these transactions emerged from EFCC interrogations of ten suspects connected with the $2.1 billion arms scandal involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Sambo Dasuki.
In a report last week, The Nation newspaper said it was told by a source that massive amounts of money were moved from the Federal Government to an “ex-Minister” to rig the Ekiti and Osun State governor contests. SaharaReporters has confirmed that the former minister in reference is Mr. Obanikoro.
According to the source, who quoted by the newspaper,“The huge funds were paid into the accounts of the ex-Minister for elections in the two states,” and “some military and security personnel were to benefit from the slush funds”were shortchanged.
Mr. Obanikoro is currently thought to be hiding out in the United States. Sources speaking with a SaharaReporters correspondent disclosed that agents of the Department of State Security recently intercepted several calls between a panicky Mr. Obanikoro and the former Senate President, David Mark, in which the former Minister pleaded for assistance from Mr. Mark regarding his forthcoming legal problems.
The same sources said that Mr. Obanikoro fears extradition if he remains where he is hiding and is therefore trying to “eliminate” the prospects of legal proceedings against him in Nigeria.
One of the suspects interrogated by the EFCC is an official of the ONSA who confirmed that the funds were transferred to the five companies at the behest of a former Accountant-General.
According to reports and SaharaReporters’ investigations, the companies controlled by Mr. Obanikoro which received the deposits included: Stellavera Dev Company (N300m), First Aralac Global Limited (N300m), First Aralac Global Limited (N100m), Damaris Mode (N300m), Stellavera Dev Company (N200m), and Whese Farms Ltd (N250m).
The funds were used either to influence the elections in Ekiti and Osun States or simply laundered, or were earmarked for the 2015 presidential elections.
Efforts by Mr. Obanikoro to quash the EFCC’s investigation from the United States have reportedly failed so far.

“We went through very tumultuous primaries that almost divided our state along the line, but we thank God that today Enugu is united and peaceful.
“After the elections, PDP lost control of the National Assembly and many people thought we were finished, but we went into political engineering and I want to thank my colleagues for that long night. We decided that when we got to the chamber in the morning, we were going to perform wonders and when the time came for the inauguration of the Senate, I was re-elected Deputy President of the Senate. It was the will of God.”

According to social media statistics, President Muhammadu Buhari amassed 12,000 followers in 6 hours, when he joined one of the largest networking platforms, Twitter, while ex President Jonathan was only able to secure 2,636 followers since he joined 24 hours ago.

Jonathan, who joined twitter on Wednesday morning, has tweeted five times and followed six accounts, four of which belong to the presidents of Ghana, America, Kenya and Cote d’Ivoire.

Troops of the Nigerian Army are continuing their advancement towards the main camp of the Boko Haram sect in Sambisa.

During the encounter, the troops freed many hostages and dislodged some Boko Haram insurgents, who fled on sighting them.

Army sources told NAN that the Boko Haram fighters cannot escape into towns as there were many check points at all Sambisa exits and entry routes.

The troops discovered a tunnel the sect uses as hideout from military air strikes.

They also destroyed Boko Haram flags, motorcycles, among other properties.

On Tuesday night in Sabo, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State a suspect­ed drug addict allegedly pushed down his 69-year-old father during an argument. He was said to have fallen, collapsed and died instantly.
On Wednesday morning, the suspect vandalised a blue Honda Ac­cord which belonged to his brother-in-law. He was eventually subdued, given some sedatives and detained.

Daily Sun gathered that there was a scuffle had occurred between the father and his son when the former took him to church on Tues­day for deliverance from drug addiction.
It was during the altercation that the son pushed his father who col­lapsed and was later con­firmed dead at a private hos­pital.
An eyewitness said:
