Indications emerged at the weekend of fresh moves to oust the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki as Chairman of the National Assembly and the country’s number three citizen, following the Supreme Court judgement, which held on Friday that his trial over alleged falsification of assets declaration while holding sway as governor of Kwara State in 2003 by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, should continue, Nigerian Pilot reports. The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by Dr Saraki, challenging the validity of his trial on charges of assets declaration preferred against him at the CCT, holding that Saraki’s ground for challenging the trial lacked merit. A highly placed source in the office of the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC told Nigerian Pilot that, following the judgement on Friday that the Senate President should face his trial at the CCT, the hierarchy of the party has reportedly asked the legal adviser to assist the party with professional legal opinion on the likely scenario that would follow, including resignation and impeachment options against the embattled Senate President. He said that the party is worried because of the criminal charges which Saraki is facing before the CCT. Already, the Senate Unity Forum, headed by Senator Ahmed Lawan are said have perfected the plot for the removal of embattled Saraki, following the verdict of the apex court. Spokesman of the SUF, Senator Kabir Marafa during the weekend told journalists that the honourable thing for the senate president to do is to resign his seat in other not be disgraced. In the same vein, a highly placed source at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, also a correspondent that the acting Chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu has ordered the review of the case file of the senate president on allegations bordering on corruption, money laundering and fraud. According to the EFCC source, both Saraki and his wife, Toyin’s case files are currently undergoing what he described as ‘discrete scrutiny’. He further added that as soon as the legal department of the commission gives its final legal opinion on the outcome of the preliminary investigations, if found wanting, he will be called for interactions. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday heard tales of alleged cash jamboree as the fifth prosecution witness, Mr Emeka Emelano, said his company was paid N72million by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) even without being awarded any contract. This revelation is coming three days after a lawyer and businessman, Uche Obilor, disclosed that three of his companies got N905,800million from NIMASA without bidding for any contract. Emenalo, sole proprietor of O2 Services Plus Nig. Ltd, testified during the trial of a former NIMASA Director-General, Patrick Akpobolokemi. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged him with converting N2.6billion. He was also accused of defrauding the Federal Government to the tune of N795.2million. Akpobolokemi was arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Buba along with three others – Captain Ezekiel Agaba, Ekene Nwakuche, Governor Juan – and three companies, namely Blockz and Stonz Limited, Kenzo Logistics Limited and Al-Kenzo Logistic Limited. In a 22-count charge, they were accused of converting a total of N2,658,957,666 between December 23, 2013 and May 28 last year. The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the counts. Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, the witness said his company specialises in agro allied services. According to him, sometimes in 2015, his younger brother, Uche Emelano sought to use his company to obtain a contract from NIMASA. He said that his brother informed him that Nwakuche would facilitate the contract. According to the witness, his brother instructed him to transfer any money paid to his company’s account as would be directed as soon as he is alerted. The witness said as soon as he began to receive alerts, he informed his brother, who in turn informed the third accused. Giving a breakdown of how the funds were disbursed, Emelano said last June 18, he received an alert for N14.2 million and a further alert of N21 million, while on March 15, 2015, he received an alert for N21 million and on May 4, he received N16 million. According to the witness, he was instructed to transfer the money to accounts belonging to Blockz and Stonz and Juan. He informed the court that his company did not execute any contract for NIMASA to have necessitated payment of the various funds. The witness added that he was also unaware of the nature of the contract for which his brother utilised his company’s account to obtain money from NIMASA. “I did not benefit anything from these monies paid. I only requested that the sum of N300,000 be left in the account to offset bank transfer charges,” he said. Read also: The racket that defrauded NIMASA of N906m Under cross examination by counsel to the third accused, Mr Lanre Olayinka, the witness stressed that he did not enjoy any benefit from the sums paid into his account. Olayinka then tendered a statement of account before the witness, and drew his attention to a cheque issued in his name for the sum of N100,000. Olayinka asked: “Mr Emelano, you claimed you did not benefit from the monies paid into your account, but from the document before you, on March 6, 2015 a cheque was issued in your name for the sum of N100,000. “If the money left in your account is for bank charges as you claim, how come you issued a cheque for the amount in your name? What was the purpose of the money?” The witness responded: “I took transport,” generating laughter in the packed courtroom. Justice Buba adjourned till February16 for continuation of cross examination. Visit http://adenaij..com for more |
The Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, Mr. Ekpo Nta, has said the war against corruption by the present administration is gaining momentum, saying more Nigerians are keying into the project. He attributed the progress made so far to the anti-corruption disposition of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the President had been leading by example. According to a statement by the ICPC on Friday, Nta spoke on a television programme where he said the international community had started reckoning with the anti-corruption drive of the government. He added that the anti-corruption fight had also been generating interest from the grassroots in Nigeria as even local communities had willingly been reporting people they suspect as living above their means, unlike when indigenes of some communities used to be hostile to operatives of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, including ICPC, anytime they want to make arrests. The statement partly read, “The seriousness with which the war is being fought in Nigeria has been eliciting responses from countries that have been promising to offer assistance to Nigeria in its fight against corruption. “ICPC has long taken preventive measures towards advancing the course of the fight against corruption through the promotion of ethics and integrity from childhood. We have also alluded to the launching of National Values Curriculum in schools since 2007 to inculcate ethics in students at primary and secondary schools, which is in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council.” See hot Gist Now Via http://adenaij..com |

Former governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori has
completed his prison terms in the United Kingdom. But he is
yet to be a free man, as he was immediately re-arrested.
TheNEWS learnt that Ibori jailed 13 years in April 2012 by a
Southwark Crown court in London was released by prison
authorities on 22 January.
He was released from Her Majesty’s Prison in Bedford, outside
of London, where he finished his prison term. He was also
initially at the Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire.
“He is out of here”, a prison source at Bedford confirmed on
Tuesday night.
Our sources said Ibori was re-arrested to face another charge,
which borders on the confiscation of his ill-gotten assets,
estimated to be about 250 million pounds. The case initially
billed for May, will now come up in June, sources told us this
afternoon.
We cannot however confirm Ibori’s new prison.
Fifty-seven year old Ibori was jailed for using UK financial
institutions to launder hundreds of millions of pound sterling
he stole from public funds in Delta State.
His journey to jail began with his arrest On 13 May 2010 in
Dubai, United Arab Emirates under Interpol arrest warrants,
issued from United Kingdom courts and enacted by the
Metropolitan Police.
He had earlier made a mockery of Nigeria’s legal system,
walking away free from the multi-billion fraud charge levelled
against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, including the $15 million bribe he offered the
then EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu. you might want to visit my blog http://adenaij..com

The victim, Mrs. Onyinyechi Chinaka A heartless tenant has done the unthinkable to his pregnant neigbour in a bid to cover his evil deeds. Mrs. Oyinyechi Chinaka a pregnant mother of two was reportedly stabbed several times by her neighbour (names withheld) in Mushin area of Lagos. She was left to bleed to death with her unborn baby severally stabbed. She is recuperating at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, but she lost her seven months pregnancy. According to Vanguard, trouble started after she allegedly caught the neighbour stealing money from her purse and, not wanting the woman to expose him at number 11, Anjorin Street, Mushin, Lagos, the suspect was said to have stabbed Mrs. Chinaka with a kitchen knife severally on her stomach, arm and neck and left her to bleed to death . The mother of two could have died but for the timely intervention of neighbours who went looking for her and called for help after they saw her lying in her room in a pool of blood. While neighbours were at a loss about what happened to her, the assailant went about as if nothing happened until he was found out by his elder brother and he confessed to stabbing Mrs. Chinaka . Mrs Chinaka narrated the ugly incident on her hospital bed. She said: “I was at home that fateful day when my children came to me in the kitchen where I was cooking to say electricity had been restored, and that I should come to the living room to play a cartoon video, called Power Ranger, for them. I left what I was doing and went to operate the television for them. But to my astonishment, I saw the neighbour in my room. He was going through my purse to steal money. I caught him red handed. He was shocked .I said, ‘ So, you are the one stealing all the money that has been missing in this compound’. I was shocked because I trusted him and we had never quarreled before. "I usually left my children with him and he entered my house the way he liked, but for him to be stealing was shocking to me. As I was still talking to him, he ran out of the room and before I knew what was happening, he came back with a kitchen knife and told me that he will stab me with it. I thought he was joking but to my shock, he moved close and, as I attempted to escape, he held me and started stabbing me with the knife . He stabbed me until I lost consciousness. I did not know what happened next. I only found myself in hospital and, after surgery, I was revived. My husband told me that I was stabbed and would have died but for God’s mercy. I could not feel my baby anymore. I was seven months pregnant but my baby was not kicking”. Explaining more on what happened and how they got help after the ugly incident, Mr. Henry, Mrs Chinaka’s brother-in-law said: "When we heard that she was stabbed, the family rallied round and rushed her to LUTH. Doctors told us that she had to use the only ICU machine but a lot of people were on queue to use it. We ran helter skelter to look for money to deposit for her treatment. We had to deposit N500,000 and we have spent more than a million naira on her treatment but nobody knew who stabbed her and she was on life support machine for months . Unknown to us, the assailant’s elder brother had reported him to the police at the Olosan Police Station and the police had charged him to court for attempted murder without carrying out thorough investigation nor did they visit the woman in the hospital”, “We have been prevailing on the police to include the case of murder in the charge against the assailant because the woman lost her seven months old pregnancy due to the stabbing. The baby is in the mortuary but the DPO of the Olosan Police Station and the IPO are not ready to cooperate with us as they went on to charge the boy to court without hearing from the family of the victim. We are appealing to the police to revisit the case and amend the charge to include murder. We want justice to be done.” Henry said. A human rights activist, Mr. Ishola Agbodemu, urged the police to get justice for the victim, especially in the light of the lost pregnancy. “If she had not been stabbed and made to go through such a terrible experience, she would have given birth to a child by now. The child’s murder should not be overlooked by the police”, Agbodemu said. In his statement to the police, the suspect said he was pushed by an evil spirit to stab Mrs. Chinaka. “I went to her house to steal money. She caught me but a spirit told me to stab her, so I went to the kitchen and took the knife and stabbed her with it. I stabbed her because I did not want her to reveal to other neighbours that I am a thief. I fled the house when I saw blood gushing out. It was my brother who exposed me. He saw a cut wound on my hand and he questioned me where I got it. I had to confess to him that I used knife to stab Mrs Chinaka. My elder brother took me to the Olosan police station and I was arrested”. Http://adenaij..co.ke
