Full Market Cycle Breakdown: How Liquidity Collapse and Distribution Shaped NGX in May 2026

The Nigerian stock market in May 2026 presented a textbook example of a full market cycle, transitioning from momentum-driven expansion to liquidity collapse, followed by distribution, a failed recovery attempt and eventual return to a risk-off environment.

While the Nigerian Exchange Limited All-Share Index (ASI) closed the month marginally higher at 250,385.47 points, up 0.27 percent week-on-week at the end of the final trading session, underlying data reveals a structurally weak market dominated by declining liquidity, selective gains and sustained institutional selling pressure. This is the first of such judgements by a state high court to my knowledge. How the judge hurriedly passed the judgement, wanting the woman to pay one billion beggars belief. It is true that if not properly handled, Bello can get an order of the court to seize her properties. However, knowing Senator Natasha, she will not pay one dime. Next is the appeal court and Supreme Court.
The appeal already threw the case out for lacking merit. She will lose everywhere. It was an Arise TV interview. It can't be defended.

PoliticsRe: Dangote Refinery Imported $3.74 Billion Crude Oil In 2025 – CBN by Truth234(m): 12:15pm On Mar 20
sulaak:
It is very hard to attract investment in energy, especially in Africa, due to the high risks and unstable governments.

I am not a fan of the Tinubu government, but the fact that he has attracted nearly $50 billion in investments is a small positive.

Nigeria need to develop LNG plants in Ondo (OK), Bayelsa (Brass) and the South East. LNG and Solar/Battery will be the energy of the long-term future.
He has done some good things but the $50 billion is largely investment commitments. Actually, investments would help job creation and deepen economic productivity.
PoliticsRe: Dangote Refinery Imported $3.74 Billion Crude Oil In 2025 – CBN by Truth234(m): 7:43am On Mar 20
Blackdisciple:
Yet Nigeria is an oil producing country.

Imagine Iran, Venezuela etc importing crude oil...

Who do us pls ..?
We have massive crude oil reserves but low production because of weak investment in our energy sector. All the debts and contracts are not big, for instance, Afreximbank crude oil for loan is just $3.3 billion at 90,000 per day crude oil refund policy for five years. However, Dangote alone imported $3.74 billion worth of crude oil in one year.

Also, our crude oil production is very low. Saudi is doing about 11 million per day, we doing about 1.5 million per day. Even Iran in war is doing about 4 million barrel per days. It is important to note that while it cost Saudi $4 to produce a barrel, its cost Nigeria between $25 to $48. Just imagine crude oil was $55 - 68 per barrel for over 4 years before the war, our profit margin is very low and equipments are old.

We need genuine investments in that sector to up production. We have massive gas too but low to zero investment. Nobody is taking us serious and also I don't trust those foreign companies leading our exploration, how is it costing us that much to produce a barrel?
PoliticsRe: Dangote Refinery Imported $3.74 Billion Crude Oil In 2025 – CBN by Truth234(m): 7:28am On Mar 20
Godfullsam:
I wonder why dangote is still importing crude oil and Nigeria is still exporting crude oil at the same time.

Why can the Nigerian government sell enough crude to dangote?
It will be a win - win game since they are selling to him at the international rate and it will ease the pressure on dollar.
Nigeria has contracts and debt obligations that must be fulfilled. We have borrowed in exchange for crude oil and you can't just breach contracts because your local refinery is operating.

Why not? When you devalue the currency more companies become trillion naira companies.

Which oil? It is too heavy. Refiners have been avoiding it for a long time. Even refiners in USA are saying Trump does not understand that the oil cost more to refine unlike Saudi Arabia light oil, Nigerian Brent, other top global oils.

China is their largest oil importer and dropped like 35% of its lifting in the last few years to take more of Arab oil.

People going to banks to do FX transactions will not improve forex supply for BDCs. The report is about a drop in supply for BDCs not drop in demand.
You are mixing things up
You don't understand how the forex market works. The BDC operators have been accused of hoarding the greenback and subsequently using their forex allocations to speculate market.

This practice has been blamed as one of the bane of Nigeria's foreign exchange challenges. Hence, why the CBN took that power from them by cutting their supplies. They should go and source for their forex and do whatever they like with it.

People can now approach banks and access forex at the official rate. Since that has been done, is forex not now stable?

It's true although I he kept quiet until the true owner revealed it to the media. That puts a dent on him as trying to reap from the loss of his benefactor. Classic 'anything for the gram' or to trend myopic mentality. Smh.

SaharaReporters actually reported the error while other media houses did not do proper investigation before sharing the fake news.
It's a reminder that you should not believe everything you read from the media.

I believe it is because most media organizations don't send their staff to the actual scene and those sent could be lazy so they relay too much fake news.

This is why media regulation, including social media is required.
What are you saying? Was it not his showroom that was demolished with his name on it? Rented or not, it was his showroom and certain damage was inflicted.

SmartPolician:
How does Forbes determine these things? I am 100% certain that these people didn't disclose their earnings to anyone because rich people, probably because of safety concerns, don't like discussing their wealth.

Given what the media has made us believe, there are people who are by far richer than these folks who made the list but they are silent kingmakers who don't want the world to know them. We have been told they are the biggest problems in our world undecided
You can not be a billionaire in dollars in silence, except you are a fraud. The money is not cash, you can't even have it in cash but in companies, which are generally listed and can be accessed by everyone. You can be rich in silence but not a dollar billionaire.

If it was truly a clear breach of contract on the part of Atalanta, don't you think Lookman would have taken them to court straightaway, instead of waiting for Drogba to file a petition?
Or instead of declaring on the other thread that he will not play for Atalanta again.

There are reports that Inter has not met the price tag on Lookman. & also Atalanta not willing to sell him to a rival club.
And why are they not taking him to court?

Never easy for a player to force a transfer, when his contract has not ended.
Especially to a rival club.

I applaud Drogba for his solidarity but I think settling the matter should involve Dialogue & Negotiations rather than Petitions.
They had an agreement before he extended and they breached it. So he has the right to force exit since they have defaulted on their part.
