Sara Malm — Daily Mail Sept 23, 2015
A new satellite image has provided solid evidence that Russia has sent more than a dozen attack planes to Syria.
The picture shows 16 warplanes lined-up on a runway at a government airbase near the coastal city of Latakia, backing claims of Moscow support made by the Syrian military earlier on Tuesday.
Damascus recently received a fresh batch of arms from Russia, including at least five fighter planes, which they have deployed against ISIS fighters, a Syrian military official said today.
The satellite image shows at least 12 Su-25 Frogfoot attack lined up next to the four Russian Air Force Su-30SM multirole combat planes, The Aviationist reports.
The deliveries came amid a rapid Russian military build-up in Syria, with US officials saying Moscow had deployed 28 combat planes and begun drone flights in the country.
Damascus had also received ‘sophisticated military equipment to fight IS,’ including targeting equipment and precision-guided missiles, according to the military official.
The new weapons had already been deployed against IS in the cities of Deir Ezzor and Raqa, the jihadist group’s de facto capital in Syria.
‘Russian weapons are starting to have an effect in Syria,’ the official said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said new Russian equipment has already been put into action, with at least 38 ISIS fighters killed Monday in air strikes in jihadist-held towns in central Syria.
‘The number of raids is growing and the strikes are more precise after the Syrian air force received arms and more efficient planes from Moscow,’ Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.
Moscow has been an unwavering supporter of Assad during a conflict that has seen more than 240,000 killed since March 2011, insisting it would continue arms deliveries.
But Russia’s intentions have been unclear in recent days as it deployed a range of new weaponry and troops to its airbase near Latakia.
The boost to President Bashar al-Assad’s military force by Russia is raising deep concerns in Washington.
On Monday, US officials said Moscow had deployed 12 SU-24 attack aircraft, 12 SU-25 ground attack aircraft and four Flanker fighter jets.
They said there were also about 20 Russian combat and transport helicopters at the base and that Moscow was operating drone flights.
‘They are not going to sit around,’ said Jeffrey White of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
‘This kind of aircraft suggests that the Russians intend to exert their combat power outside of Latakia in an offensive role.’
The deployments have raised fears of an inadvertent confrontation between Russian forces and the US-led coalition that has been carrying out air strikes against IS in Syria for more than a year.
After an 18-month freeze in military relations triggered by NATO anger over Moscow’s role in the Ukraine crisis, US and Russian military officials held talks Friday aimed at avoiding unintended incidents in Syria.
The deployments come as Russia pushes for the coalition of Western and regional powers fighting IS to join forces with Assad against the jihadists.
Western and Gulf powers have long resisted any role for Assad in the fight against ISIS, insisting he must be removed from his post in order for Syria to have any hope of peace.
Efforts to find a negotiated solution to Syria’s war have repeatedly failed, despite the enormity of a crisis that has forced millions from their homes, many of them seeking refuge in Europe.

socialmediaman: The article begged the question it intended to answer. How did the cabal prevent Nigerians from having electricity? It's not that difficult to answer, is it? Let me help you. You have to look into the NNPC and the gas supply to the power generation companies. The NNPC officials in connivance with the subsidy cabals starved the generation companies of gas supply, while blaming mystery "gas pipeline vandals". You were right on something, this was done on the patronage of subsidy cabals who benefitted more by Nigerians using more petrol. However, they knew their game was up immediately Buhari won election, they knew they we're going to be investigated if they continued in their evil inhuman acts so they simply stopped and went back to normal business while observing how the new government will go.
It's shameful and we hope there is justice someday. We actually expect the media to investigate and publish a more detailed article about how they achieved this sabotage for many years, let there be public outrage enough to start a government probe are wilfully dense....??......he just told you the way he understands it.......stop the power-plants from working well, with bribes...so that nigerians may buy more fuel.....corruption is a nasty thing...if you have people without salary for a year, its easy to manipulate them.... |

People in Ilorin are daring him to come for tomorrow's Jumuaah at the Central Mosque if he is so sure of himself. Tomorrow's humiliation will be worse than today's. its better he stay at home, not that they realy harm him.....a mob can quickly get out of hand....he would need a whole police battalion to protect him....the people are very angry...... |

lawyer: This is just plain sick and shows how deranged a particular section of the country is. Mob action for no just cause because APC leadership is angry Saraki beat them in their own game so they organize the media to try him to make gullible people who have no respect for the rule of law to threat him like a leper. What if the Code of Conduct Tribunal finds him not Guilty like Tinubu, would these morons pelting him with stones apologize and pelt themselves with stones?
Why is Saraki the only one they are after? What of Audu Abubakar that stole Kogi's 11Billion or Sylva who has a 2Billion case with EFCC that was withdrawn or Fashola who mismanaged Lagos funds such as building a 78million website or using 2.1Billion to build a 48room VIP chalet in Badagry? When would they be stoned or pelted too? When Tambuwal betrayed PDP to become the Speaker of the House, did PDP use the media, code of conduct or any other state sponsored gimmick to frustrate him out? This is very very very bad for our democracy where vengeance and violent opposition is the only way to settle political scores.
The Same APC that would defend an Audu and tell me whether he has been convicted for stealing Kogi's money or for me to provide evidence that Fashola defrauded Lagos is the same APC convicting Saraki in public and media without giving him the benefit of doubt or right to fair hearing to clear himself. This level of Hypocrisy of APC would lead this nation into anarchy and doom very soon if they continue at this pace. i don think the Code of Conduct Tribunal would risk loosing face in a nigeria that is awakining more and more....saraki own pass too much.... |

Politics › Re: Politics And Religion-my Experience At Eid Praying Ground Ilorin With Photos by tsdarkside(m): 2:54pm On Sep 24, 2015 |
ruuudboy: Am not a fan of politics and i dont support any politicians because i believe they are all the same, likewise when it comes to religion, am very conservative and dont argue abt religion with people, i believe in freedom of religion.
It was by the grace of Almighty God witnessing another sallah on earth...being in ilorin this very moment afford me the opportunity to witness first hand how our suppose leaders have brainwash our political thinking with politics.
Am just in ilorin for some official engagement and as usual on every sallah day, we have to go to the eid ground for prayer and today was no exception.
I left with my guy as early as quarter to nine with the believe that prayer will be called at exactly 9am as i was used to in my area in Lagos but to my surprise when we got to gomola roundabout and everywhere was still free...my guy suggested we should stay around the junction as everywhere will be crowded soon but i decline saying we should get to the playing ground i even laugh it off that i will love to stay behind the imam to oversee all what will happen and listen to
we got to the eid ground and after looking for space, we got a space not too far to where the imam was and we can see the imam clearly, i mock my guy saying am enjoying d view instead of staying somewhere where i will just be listening to voice alone.
barely 20mins after we settled down, dat was about 20mins to 10am, we started hearing noice, most people were on their feet shouting and i started asking what was happening, somebody beside us said "maybe its saraki that arrived"....in other to do away with my curiousness, i stood up to peep and there it was, our senate president was the one that walked in...
everything was stand still from that moment and we couldnt hear any sermon again.....all we were hearing was side talk.....i guess after like 15mins of standstill and the imam couldnt help it again, all we heard was "sofullilahi" which signale that it was time for prayer.
We stood up and started praying but people were still making noise but by the time everywhere was silent that was when i started hearing some people shouting "ole" "ole"....."saraki ole"....everywhere was tensed that imam wanted to make mistake along the line during "rukuu" when he suppose to say "semi allahu limon amidahu (Only God knows who worship him)" and wanted to say "Allahu Akbar (Allah is great)"....but he corrected himself immediately.
The moment imam said "salam aleikum waramotullahi" signalling end of prayer, before those of us could respond to him, everywhere was scattered and people started scampering in different directions "ileya ooo" "e ma duro ooo (dont wait)" ....everybody around the place was running up and down finding the best available route outside the praying ground.....
some people started shouting "ole" "ole".....and started throwing stones....me and my guy had to hold ourselves and walk through a bush part to jump a fence outside the praying ground. I lost my slippers during d scuffle of trying to find my way out and had to walk barefooted to the main road.We could hear the agony of people on our way out saying "a ti gbon (we are wise)"....thief, they didnt pay our salary and they are enjoying with their families.....
from our observation, kwara people are tired of their livelihood, most of them are lamenting and some of them couldnt help it as they wanted to confront the police that were providing security at the praying ground saying they caused all this and were the one supporting the politicians...u dare not say anytyn positive about the government except u want to be lynched.
so my problem is, how do we get here? How did we get to a stage of mixing religion with politics that our prayers had to be standstill cos of arrival of the SP......how did we get to the situation of going to pray to God and wouldn't have peace of mind and be scared of something bad happening cos of politics and our politicians.
Definitely kwara/ilorin people at large are not happy with their leaders and politicians but should this be mixed with religion?
