BusinessOando Staff Return Home As Police Storm Head Office by TundeBricklayer(op): 9:52pm On Jun 03, 2019
Staff members of Oando Plc have been forced to stay away from work as policemen stormed the head office of the company on Monday morning.

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced on Sunday night that it had set up an interim management team to oversee the affairs of Oando following the order that the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Wale Tinubu, and other affected board member should resign.

Our correspondent who visited Oando’s Wing Office Complex located on Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, observed policemen numbering over 10 at the entrance of the complex, which houses other companies.
They later moved into the complex.
A staff member, who spoke with our correspondent in confidence, said, “We got a message late last night about the interim management. So for the safety of staff because we are not sure of the way things will go, we did not come to the office.
“Some people still came to work this morning, but if you go to work and you see police everywhere, you are most likely to turn back. Fear will make you turn back and go home. So, that has been the situation.”
Security officers at the complex told our correspondent that some staff members of Oando were denied access to their office at the instance of their (security officers’) supervisor.
SEC said in a statement on Sunday, “Further to our press release on Oando Plc, dated May 31, 2019, the commission hereby informs the public of the constitution of an interim management team headed by Mr Mutiu Olaniyi Adio Sunmonu CON, to oversee the affairs of Oando Plc, and conduct an Extraordinary General Meeting on or before July 1, 2019 to appoint new directors to the board of the company, who would subsequently select a management team for Oando Plc.
SEC had on Friday announced the conclusion of the investigation of Oando and ordered the GCEO of the company, Tinubu, and other affected board members to resign.
The apex capital market regulator also said it barred Tinubu and the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Omamofe Boyo, from being directors of public companies for a period of five years.
The commission said findings from the report revealed serious infractions such as false disclosures, market abuses, misstatements in financial statements, internal control failures, and corporate governance lapses, “stemming from poor board oversight, irregular approval of directors’ remuneration, unjustified disbursements to directors and management of the company, related party transactions not conducted at arm’s length, among others.”
Oando, however, said the “alleged infractions and penalties are unsubstantiated, ultra vires, invalid and calculated to prejudice the business of the company.”

Breaking News...

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has reshuffled his cabinet.

Announcing the reshufflement at the state Executive Council Meeting on Monday, Governor Obiano explained that the adjustment was intended to add verve to his administration.

Accordingly, Arc Mike Okonkwo, the former Commissioner for Environment has become the Commissioner for Housing while the former Commissioner for Housing, Emeka Ezenwanne has become the Commissioner for Public Utilities.

Hon Obi Nwankwo who formerly headed the Ministry of Public Utilities has now become the Commissioner for Environment while the former Commissioner for Lands, Hon Nnamdi Onukwuba has become the Commissioner for Agriculture.

The former Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Afam Mbanefo has become the Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy while Hon Bonaventure Enemali who was heading the Ministry for Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy has now become the Commissioner for Lands.

The re-assigned commissioners were given two weeks to handover their respective ministries to their colleagues.

Throwing more light on the reshufflement, Governor Obiano assured his cabinet that his decision was not informed by poor performance from the re-designated commissioners but purely by a desire to inject vigour into his administration as it focuses more on leaving an enduring legacy.

"I have absolute confidence in all of you here," Governor Obiano declared to his commissioners and further emphasized that he wanted every member of his team to put in their best efforts in the service of the state.

"This is a legacy period and not a time to rest on our oars. No commissioner is bigger than the other. All my commissioners are equal. Every commissioner has a responsibility to give their best in the service of the people," Governor Obiano further explained.

Governor Obiano also announced that the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Healthcare Insurance Scheme, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi has joined the state Executive Council.

According to him, Dr Onyemaechi handles a very important initiative and needed to be drawn closer to understand the inner workings of the administration.

Speaking further on what his administration was doing to leave a lasting legacy, Governor Obiano explained that he had set up special Committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke to identify specific projects across the state that the administration must build to leave an enduring legacy.

@TundeBrkcklayer, I believe the company is doing well except there is a ploy to sabotage the directors. Something is fishy somewhere...

Olufemi Atoyebi, Ibadan

Shareholders of Oando Plc from across the South-West states on Tuesday staged a protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and demanded that the company’s Managing Director, Wale Tinubu, should step down because of the firm’s poor financial position.
Making reference to the report of the last Annual General Meeting of the company, which was held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where the External Auditor, Ernst & Young, stated that Oando reported a comprehensive loss in 2015 and 2016, the National President, Renaissance Shareholders Association, Olufemi Timothy; and the National Coordinator, Proactive Shareholders Association of Nigeria, Mr. Taiwo Oderinde, condemned the meeting, saying it was stage-managed to continue the mismanagement of the company’s finance by the current management.
Timothy stated, “Oando Plc is practically dead because it is no more a going concern. Its contemporaries are doing well and bringing glory to their shareholders. We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Nigerian Stock Exchange and the Senate Committee on Capital Market to intervene before it is too late.
“We are dying because our investments in the company have grown wings. The share we bought for N90 has come down to N5 under Wale Tinubu’s watch. A proper probe should be carried out. Tinubu should step aside. The company has gone with its current reported N263bn negative working capital.
“We worked hard to invest in the company but what did we get in return? Absolutely nothing! The poor shareholders are suffering and many have died. We have a lot of retired people dying because their investments have gone. Under the current management, Oando suffers a lot and we cannot tolerate it again.”
Oderinde said that Transparency International rated Nigeria poorly in its global corruption index because of alleged corrupt practices within institutions like Oando.
Enough is enough and Wale Tinubu must go. If you go to the Transparency International’s website, you will see their rating of Nigeria on the global corruption index and it was stated therein that not only individuals are corrupt in Nigeria, but institutions too. Little did we know that TI was referring to companies like Oando,” he said.
The protesters also visited the NSE office in Dugbe, where the Branch Manager, Mr. Kayode Ogun, urged them to write a formal letter to the bourse, stating their demands, while calling on them to exercise restraint while the NSE looked into their petition.

This is impossible! Why should they resign?
According to the Commission, these, among others, are part of measures to address identified violations in the company.
SEC said, “Following the receipt of two petitions by the Commission in 2017, investigations were conducted into the activities of Oando Plc (a company listed on the Nigerian and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges).

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has ordered Oando Group CEO Wale Tinubu, and other senior executives, to resign. They are also barred from being directors of public companies for 5 years.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has concluded its investigation of Oando Plc and ordered the Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Wale Tinubu, and other affected board members to resign.
SEC, in a statement on Friday, also said it barred Tinubu and the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Omamofe Boyo, from being directors of public companies for a period of five years.
It also directed the convening of an Extraordinary General Meeting on or before July 1, 2019 to appoint new directors.
Meanwhile, the court reinstated the suspended DG of SEC, Mounir Gwarzo, yesterday. No one knows if he has resumed duties already.
The National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the immediate reinstatement of Mounir Gwarzo, the suspended Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), back to his position.
Justice Sanusi Kado, in his judgment, held that the minister of finance, named as the second defendant in the suit, lacked the power to suspend the claimant.
Mr Kado, who dismissed three issues raised by defence counsel through their preliminary objection, ruled that the suit was not status barred.

Anambra doesn't have solid infrastructures, though the roads are very good. Obiano did very well with regards to rural roads. Awka doesn't really look like a capital city. It's too small, and doesn't have major roads apart from the expressway that traversed the middle of the town.
All the flyovers in Anambra are on the Onitsha-Enugu expressway, apart from one on Onitsha - Owerri Road. You won't find any other dual carriage way anywhere in the state, except for a few roads and streets in Onitsha and Awka.
