PoliticsNew Defence Chief Sets Strategy For Operation Against Boko Haram by tunex23(op): 3:41am On Jul 22, 2015
The newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin has stated his readiness to provide new strategic and operational direction in the prosecution of the fight against terror in the country.

The CDS gave this hint in the inaugural address he delivered at the handing and taking over ceremony between him and the outgone Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh (rtd) at the Defence Headquarters on Tuesday.

According to him, “A lot has been done in the ongoing counter-insurgency operation in the North East; in furtherance of the successes so far achieved, we will look at ways to strengthen the existing arrangement as well as provide new strategic direction.

“We will set specific timelines and milestones to be achieved; look at gaps in the ongoing efforts and do all that are needful, with the support of government, to address these gaps especially in the areas of actionable intelligence, logistics, communication and other critical equipment”.

He noted the imperative of collaborating with other security agencies, especially in the areas of intelligence gathering and promised to improve on such invaluable collaborations.

“We must explore every available means to obtain real-time and actionable intelligence in all our operations”, he assured while promising to strengthen the newly established Military Command Control Centre with necessary personnel and equipment for greater coordination of the North East operation, in line with Presidential directives.

The new CDS also vowed to strengthen, provide support and direction to achieve greater success in curbing oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in Nigerian water ways.

Similar initiatives, according to him, will be extended to deal with the spate of armed banditry and other criminal activities within the country.

He lauded the achievements of his predecessor, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, and thanked him for the untiring effort at improving the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces and promised consolidate on his monumental legacies.

Earlier in his valedictory address, the former CDS thanked members of the Nigerian military and Nigerians in general for all the support and encouragement he received from them during his time as Nigeria’s 15th Chief of Defence Staff.

He specifically extended his appreciation to the former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, for the confidence he reposed in him by appointing him as the CDS.

He also thanked President Muhammad Buhari for also giving him the opportunity to serve under him for about six weeks.

Major General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin was appointed as the 16th Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria on the 13th July, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Boko Haram Areas To Get $2bn In World Bank Aid' by tunex23: 2:24am On Jul 22, 2015
dayo23:
The World Bank has pledged $2.1bn (£1.4bn; €1.9bn) to help rebuild north-eastern parts of Nigeria, wracked by years of Boko Haram militancy, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari says.
Mr Buhari was speaking in Washington after talks with World Bank officials.
He said priority must be given to rebuilding infrastructure and helping those displaced by the conflict.
Mr Buhari has pledged to defeat Boko Haram insurgents who have killed thousands in Nigeria since 2009.
More than a million people have also been displaced by the insurgency.
On Monday, US President Barack Obama pledged his support for Mr Buhari in the campaign against Boko Haram. The US has committed $5 million (£3.2m; €4.6m) to the fight against the insurgents since the Nigerian leader was elected earlier this year.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mr Buhari urged the World Bank to send a team to Nigeria to assess how to spend the funds.
The money is expected be given in the form of a loan which will be interest-free for the first 10 years.
BBC Africa editor Richard Hamilton says extreme poverty and neglect in north-eastern Nigeria is thought to have fuelled the rise of Islamic extremism and given Boko Haram broader appeal.
Mr Buhari also met representatives of the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to discuss measures to tackle malaria and polio.

PoliticsBuhari Is Treating Us Like Refugees – PDP Alleges by tunex23(op): 10:59pm On Jul 21, 2015
The All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government has been accused of treating members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as prisoners of war and refugees.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who made this allegation on Tuesday, noted that the party was not afraid regardless of the development.

Addressing party stakeholders in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, shortly before the commencement of the re-scheduled PDP Ward Congress in the state, Metuh disclosed that the party was also working hard to win the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship polls scheduled for November.

According to him, “We are being treated as if we are prisoners of war. We are being treated as if we are refugees. We are not afraid, we have faith in our strength and unity; faith in the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.

“We (PDP) are not afraid of the intimidation, harassment and arrest of our members by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, if the arrest is done within the confines of the law.”

The spokesman, who claimed that PDP’s stance against corruption had remained unwavering, lamented the witch-hunt of its members by the Buhari-led administration under the pretext of a probe.

His words, “We condemn the uncivilised method of arrest, intimidation and the denial of the fundamental human rights of members of our party who served in the last administration by the Buhari led administration.
“If the ruling party believes that there is anyone who has served in the federal government and is guilty of corrupt practices, they are free within the law to investigate as long as they go through due process and observe the rule of law,” Metuh asserted.

PoliticsAdelabu Was My Political Role Model - Obasanjo by tunex23(op): 7:01pm On Jul 19, 2015
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday described the first Federal Minister of Social Services and Natural Resources, Adegoke Adelabu popularly called ‘Adelabu Penkelemesi’ as his political role model.
Obasanjo said he share the political philosophy of the late politician which, according to him, was devoid of ethnic and tribal considerations but focused on a United Nigeria.

The former President while receiving the family of the late Ibadan-born politician during a courtesy visit at Obasanjo’s Abeokuta Hilltop Mansion said Nigerians are still struggling to reach the pinnacle Adelabu attained in politics.
Obasanjo who accepted the offer to be the patron of the posthumous centenary birthday celebration of the late politician described the late Adelabu as a detribalised Nigerian.

Led by an Ibadan High Chief and a former broadcaster, Aare Lekan Alabi, the family members said they were in Obasanjo’s house to help in giving a befitting ceremony to the first African Manager of UAC Haberdashery, Lagos.

Obasanjo said Adelabu was years ahead of his political contemporaries adding that he advocated for United State of West Africa before his demise.

According to him,“Adelabu was not just a historic figure, he was a reality, he was a phenomenon, he was uniquely Yoruba, uniquely Nigerian, uniquely African and uniquely a member of human race.

“What you are proposing to do, I believe Adelabu deserved it in every facet. Today, we are still struggling to reach the pinnacle or the pedestrial Adelabu reached in politics, of not being swayed by linguistic, ethnic, tribal, regional, sectional consideration but by what is best for Nigeria.
“He was years ahead of his contemporary politicians. In his life time, he was talking of United State of West Africa, ECOWAS came up years after his demise. In his live time, he belonged to a political party that has its base outside the western region where he came from, he was not a tribal baron, he was a national politician.

“So, when you asked me to be the patron of Adelabu posthumous centenary birthday celebration,  I have no reason to say ‘no’.I have no reasons to say ‘no’ because, I share what Adelabu stood for, I share Adelabu’s philosophy of a united Nigeria and believe, I share Adelabu’s view of politics beyond ethnicity, beyond tribe, beyond region and I believe that in our national life.
“We should extol the virtues like the one we saw in Adelabu, a man of the people, down to hearth, absolutely down to hearth and yet, a man who believed that his politics must be above ethnicity, must be above tribe, must be to unite the country while, of course, uplifting his own people.

“On behalf of the family who asked me to accept this and having accepted this, I will do my utmost best to contribute to making that day you have chosen to celebrate the birthday a success and also to use it to remind those who may like to forget that there was, even before independent, men and Nigerians like Adelabu who believed in the unity of this country, who lived for it and indeed died for it.”

Earlier, Aare Lekan Alabi who gave a brief bio data of the leader of opposition in Western House of Assembly between 1956 and 1958 pleaded on former President Obasanjo to ‘carry Adelabu to the world’.

According to Alabi, “if alive, late Adelabu would have been 100 years by September 3, 2015 and as such families have planned to celebrate the enigma”,Alabi stated.

Adelabu, the first Chairman of Ibadan District Council in 1954 died in a road accident on March 25, 1958 in Ode Remo in present day Ogun State at the age of 43.

Adelabu was the leader of the National Council of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC), western delegation to 1957 London constitutional conference and the first National Vice President of the party.

Meanwhile, the former president recently said he has no regrets about establishing the Federal Public Complaints Commission.

PoliticsNigeria Will Rise Again Under Buhari – Ogbonnaya Onu Assures by tunex23(op): 5:24pm On Jul 17, 2015
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ogbonnaya Onu has called on Nigerians not to lose faith in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He sad the new government would soon surmount the many challenges currently confronting the country.

Onu, a former governor of Abia State gave this charge while felicitating with Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitri celebration.

Speaking with newsmen on Thursday, Onu said, “I urge that we rededicate ourselves to the enduring attributes of love for one another and a more robust resolve to strengthen those bonds that unite as well as bridge the gaps that divide us as one people in one nation with a common destiny under God”.

Continuing, he added:‎ “At all times, it should be borne in mind that as a people, regardless of differences in either religious beliefs or ethnic origin, we must remain bound together in the pursuit of a common resolve, especially in the challenge of building a better and a more united nation, where ‘though tribe and tongue may differ in brotherhood’ we should continue to stand.

“A house divided against itself can hardly stand. As a nation, our strength lies in our diversity. We should work together as members of one family to realize our collective desire for a new Nigeria of limitless opportunities for all and boundless prosperity for many.”

Pleading with Nigerians to support the administration of President Buhari, Onu said the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government would do all within its power to ensure that Nigerians get what they truly deserve.

His words: “Nigeria is a nation whose sun is about to rise. The challenge we face is to be determined in our resolve to work together, especially with the inspiring commitment of the APC led Federal Government of President Muhammadu Buhari. The challenges we face today should not deter us, for with the help of the Almighty God, the future is bright for our dear country.

“I am confident that Nigeria shall rise again. I urge that we utilize the opportunity of this occasion to love our country even more and stand firm in the collective conviction that never shall the labour of our heroes past be in vain.“Once again, I congratulate the Muslim faithful on this occasion and fervently pray that the Almighty God will continue to strengthen them in the pursuit of individual happiness and collective fulfilment,” he remarked.

PoliticsI’ll Not Tolerate Indiscipline – New Army Chief by tunex23(op): 4:55pm On Jul 17, 2015
The Chief of Army Staff Maj. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai has said that he would not tolerate indiscipline in the Army.

The COAS who was reacting to questions from journalists in Damaturu as to whether the over 4,000 soldiers that were sacked by the Army during the Boko Haram fight would be recalled responded that; “what I would tell you is that I cannot tolerate indiscipline in the force.”

The Chief of Army Staff explained that his coming to Damaturu to celebrate Sallah with the troops is part of the measures to boost the morale of the troops on ground and help him access the equipment and the discipline of the soldiers so as to come up with a better approach to the counter insurgency fight.

He said: “I cannot tell you why I am here on the strategic level because it’s a strategic decision. We all know the importance of Damaturu and Yobe State in particular.  My presence here is to improve civil military relation, we need the cooperation. My presence will boost the morale of the troops. This is one of the reasons why I am here. To see for myself and it will also help me to access the state of readiness in terms of equipment and indeed their state of discipline and we would be able to access the threat properly from this perspective,” Buratai explained.

PoliticsBuhari’s Sacked CSO, Mani May Return As Chief Detail by tunex23(op): 6:41pm On Jul 10, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari may have recalled his sacked Chief Security officer (CSO), Mr Abdurahman Mani.

Mani, a senior officer with the Department of State Services, DSS, was asked to leave the position last week.

He was posted to Ebonyi state. Buhari had also fired Widi Liman, his administrative officer. Both men were accused of turning appointments with the president into a “business venture”.

Bashir Abubakar, formerly an assistant director in the Bayelsa State command of the DSS, was appointed the new CSO to the president. Liman, who is yet to be replaced, was a close aide to governor of Kaduna state, Nasir el-Rufai, while he was FCT minister. He has been transferred to Oyo state command of the DSS.

However, information gathered on Friday suggests that the sacked CSO had been recalled to the Villa, though in another capacity – President Buhari’s chief detail.

Mani was yet to report in Ebonyi State before the recallBuhari’s loyalists reportedly made case for Mani, who was regarded as loyal and dedicated throughout the course of the presidential campaign.

Mani had served in similar capacity to General Buhari for four years prior to his election as president.

The former CSO had opposed an order by the aide-de-camp, Lieutenant-Colonel M. L. Abubakar, that DSS officials should vacate about 10 beats in the villa.

Mani, on June 26, issued a memo to counter a June 24 memo by the ADC, which also announced that DSS officials should stop close body protection of the president.

The memo, asked operatives of the DSS to ignore the earlier memo by the ADC, because the “author ventured into a not-too-familiar terrain.”

“The extant practice, the world over, is that VIP protection, which is a specialised field, is usually handled by the Secret Service, under whatever nomenclature.
“They usually constitute the inner core security ring around every principal. The Police and the military by training and mandate are often required to provide secondary and tertiary security cordons around venues and routes,” Mani noted.

Looking at the current situation of the country, it worrisome!
President Buhari has been dormant, inactive, dull, weak some even say he is confuse himself on how to govern the country.
Buhari promise to stop Boko haram insurgency within two month if elected but Uptill now we yet to see any change promise instead is even the re-rise of insurgency with more confidence and deadly attacks, with the look of things boko haram may escalate to the central part of the country including abuja, buhari so far as failed Nigerians even worse than Gej.
I for once feel we should support and give him 100days or else impeachment should commence!
Excuses like "it was allowed to grow under Jonathan". Shut it! Kill that excuse. Primary responsibility = Security of citizen lives.
