Upon searching the victims, a pair of scissors and a national identity card were found on one of the victims, whose hand had been severed from the body. A policeman, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, wondered why the victims rode against the traffic when both sides of the road were relatively free. I hope the police are not trying to cover up for the policeman that ran over the riders As far as am concerned a thief/criminal would never carried an identity card during operation. If and if that's what they were trying to tell us. # just saying..... |

Two riders on a motorcycle with number plate, KJA405QO, were crushed to death by a vehicle driven by a policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday. Our correspondent, who visited the scene, learnt that the deceased riders were riding against the traffic inwards Lagos Island when they were crushed to death. A traffic official, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the deceased riders rode along with others in a convoy. He said, “I was at Oworonshoki when I saw about four motorcycles driving against traffic inwards Lagos Island. “They drove against the traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge for reasons still unknown. “When they got to the bridge, one of the motorcycles, which had two persons, was knocked down by a wine-coloured Toyota Picnic with number plate, BDG60CL. “The two guys on the bike died on the spot, while their colleagues fled.” The policeman who also sustained minor injuries said he tried to avoid the men riding against the traffic, but the riders were on top speed. The incident expectedly caused a traffic snarl from the bridge to Adeniji-Adele bus stop as motorists slowed down to take pictures of the corpses. Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad and the Adekunle division were seen controlling the traffic. Upon searching the victims, a pair of scissors and a national identity card were found on one of the victims, whose hand had been severed from the body. A policeman, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, wondered why the victims rode against the traffic when both sides of the road were relatively free. He said, “I really do not understand why four motorcyclists would be moving in a convoy and riding against the traffic when the legitimate side of the road is free. Even their motorcycles did not meet the Lagos State standard. “Why did their colleagues flee after the accident? We will find out more after our investigation.” LASTMA spokesperson, Mrs. Bola Ajao, said she would call our correspondent back, but had yet to do so as of press time. The Lagos State Police spokesman, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident. He said, “The information at our disposal is that the two men were on a motorcycle and were driving against traffic when they rammed into an incoming vehicle. The two of them died on the spot. One of them has already been identified. “Their corpses have been deposited at a morgue.” http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/policeman-crushes-riders-on-third-mainland-bridge/

A yet-to-be-identified man was electrocuted when the cables on a pole he mounted on Sunday triggered electrical sparks. Many passersby and residents of Omolara Street, off the Yakoyo area of Ojodu, Lagos, scampered to safety as the man was gripped by the electrical surge. He was said to be replacing old cables with new ones on the street when the incident occurred at about 4.50pm. Our correspondent, who was at the scene, saw one of his colleagues climbing the ladder to rescue the victim, who was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Many of those who witnessed the incident expressed hope that the hospital would save him. A resident of the area, Mr. Sebastine Ilogwu, said electrical works on some newly fixed poles within the neighbourhood started seven days earlier. He added that the man was about completing the fixing of some cables on one of the poles when electricity was restored. Ilogwu said, “The degree of the electrical shock was intense. “We can only hope that God will spare his life. It is a sad development because he was actually carrying out a legitimate duty.” Another resident, who gave her name as Mrs. Biobaku, stated that the area had been in darkness for about three weeks. She said, “Workers of the electricity distribution firm for this area came last week Monday to change the cables after mounting new poles. “I pray that the man survives. The electric shock was too much.” Many of the residents later gathered in groups to discuss the incident. The ladder painted in red hue, which the man mounted, was later removed by some of his colleagues. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/confusion-as-cables-electrocute-electricity-worker/

Hundreds of Nigerian protesters on Monday stormed the offices of South African companies in Abuja and Benin City, Edo State, to protest the ongoing xenophobic attacks on foreigners, especially Nigerians, in South Africa. In Abuja, the protesters, led by media personality and President of the Berekete Family, Ahmad Isah, marched to the regional headquarters of MTN Nigeria Communications Limited in Maitama, as well as Shoprite and Multichoice, owners of DSTV. At MTN, the protesters, who carried placards with various inscriptions condemning the attacks on Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa, were joined by Nigerians in the area where the office is located. One of our correspondents learnt that a senior official of MTN whose identity was not known, addressed the crowd of protesters who wore yellow T-shirts, the traditional colour of the South African telecommunications company. The official reportedly told the protesters that the company was not in support of the attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa. He also told them that the MTN operation in the country was MTN Nigeria and that the company only has a few South Africans working in the country. When our correspondent visited the Maitama office of the company, policemen in a patrol vehicle were seen stationed just across the telecommunication firm’s office to forestall possible breakdown of the peace. In Benin City, some youth protesters stormed the MTN office on 3rd East Circular Road, Muritala Muhammed Way. The youths, under the aegis of The Flagship, threatened to shut down South African firms operating in Nigeria over the attack on Nigerians in South Africa. The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions. The messages in the placards include, “Xenophobia is inhuman,” “Zuma call your boys to order” and “S/Africans can’t be making money from us, killing us.” Spokesperson for the group, Austin Enabulele, described the attacks as inhuman and condemnable, explaining that the protest was a warning to the South African government to put a stop to the attacks on Nigerians or risk losing its investments in the country. Enabulele said, “We are all Africans; we wonder why they should attack our fellow Nigerians who are doing their legitimate businesses in South Africa, when we have shown them love to operate in Nigeria. “We have come here to say to (President Jacob) Zuma to call his people to order because if he fails to call them to order we will do the needful. We are aware of all their businesses in Nigeria; we know of MTN, we know of Shoprite, we know of Multichoice company, and we know of all the other companies that belong to South Africa. “We will shut down all their services, if they continue the killing of our brothers and sisters. So, we have come here to tell them to put an end to the killing of our brothers and sisters who are doing their legitimate jobs in South Africa.” The vice president of the group, Gloria Noren, decried what she described as the ingratitude of South Africans, whom she said received financial support from Nigeria during the apartheid era. Noren urged the Federal Government to commence the immediate evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa, in order to forestall further havoc. She said, “We have videos of Nigerians that have been killed; I personally watched the video. How can someone come out to say that we are taking their jobs from them? What about the money they are making from us? “Nigeria spent over N60bn fighting apartheid for them. Why should we extend love to them and they extend hatred to us. It is totally inhuman, distasteful and disgusting. “We are sending this message to our Nigerian government to go ahead and evacuate all Nigerians from South Africa because we cannot continue to lose our brethren.” The Nigerian Consul-General in South Africa, Amb. Uche Ajulu-Okeke, had on Sunday said that Nigerians had lost more than N21m to the attacks in South Africa. Ajulu-Okeke said the loss included looted shops, burnt shops, two burnt mechanic workshops, 11 burnt cars and two stolen cars, among others. “Nigerians have compiled the cost of the damage to their property and it is totalling about 1.2m Rand or N21m, which will be sent to the Federal Government for further action,” the ambassador had said. She said that two of the three Nigerians who were wounded during the attacks in Durban had been treated and discharged from the hospital. The consul-general said that she would go back to Durban to assess the situation on ground and meet with the provincial authority on the security of Nigerians in the province. http://www.punchng.com/news/nigerians-protest-at-mtn-multichoice-shoprite-offices-outlets/

it was when they had fled that her playmates said she was lured with Gala. Atennuuu Chai!! Gala and Bobo tricking small pikin since 987 BC.. They should nicknamed her "Gala ![]() The Lagos Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, however, said Olawunmi had been rescued by a police team drawn from divisions in the state, adding that he was not aware that the family paid any ransom. He said, “The child has been found in Abeokuta, Ogun State and reunited with her parents. Investigations are ongoing to track down the kidnappers.” Hymmm! What a controversial statement from the oga police. Definitely, the parents actually paid the ransom Well, thank God she is back home with her parents. |
Our 3 year old girl, OLUWABUNMI AJELERO, got MISSING today @ Surulere Baptist Church 52/54, Ojuelegba road, Surulere. Strange men walked into the premises and took her away on a bike through Nathan Street off Ojuelegba. Please help us, our hearts are broken, we're crying https://www.nairaland.com/2265619/missing-child-surulere Finally, the girl has been rescued. There was anxiety on Sunday at the Surulere Baptist Church, Ojuelegba Road, Lagos State after two unidentified men sneaked into the church premises and abducted a three-year-old girl, Oluwabunmi Ajelero. It was gathered that the girl was playing with other children on the church premises at about 1pm when the kidnappers came in through the back of the church and tricked her out with Gala, a popular sausage, before whisking her away on a motorcycle. Our correspondent, however, learnt that the girl, was rescued in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday by the police and reunited with her parents. PUNCH Metro learnt that Oluwabunmi’s parents and other members of the church were inside the church immersed in the service when the incident happened. The service, it was learnt, was grounded when one of the toddler’s playmates alerted the congregation to the incident. It was further learnt that the captors had pretended as members of the church and established rapport with children in the church. Our correspondent was told that Oluwabunmi’s friend cautioned her not to follow the strangers, who reportedly escaped through Nathan Street. Speaking with our correspondent at about 8am on Monday, the victim’s father, Oladapo Ajelero, said the captors had contacted him on the phone, telling him to cooperate. He, however, said they had yet to request any ransom. He said, “It happened around 1pm on Sunday. The children finished their service before us and were playing on the church premises; Oluwabunmi was among them. “Suddenly, one of her friends rushed in and said two men had lured and taken her away through the back of the church. Some people in the area said they saw her sitting between two men on a motorcycle. I learnt they escaped through Nathan Street. “Our hearts are broken, we don’t know what to do anymore. They have called and instructed me to cooperate. I am still expecting their calls, but for now they have not asked for any ransom.” Oladapo explained further that one of his relatives went to Surulere Police Station to report, but he was told to come back and make a formal statement after 24 hours of the girl’s abduction. PUNCH Metro who visited the church on Monday observed some members of the congregation lamenting the incident. One of them, who identified herself only as Iya Tope, said she could not sleep throughout the night. “It still appears to me like magic. I could not sleep. We have been praying over it since yesterday and I am sure she will come back to us safely,” she said. A security guard of the church, Mr. Moses Oyedeji, said the kidnappers would have been rounded up if they had entered through the main entrance. He said, “I was on duty yesterday, but the children were playing at the back of the church. That was why I was not aware of the intrusion. It was when they had fled that her playmates said she was lured with Gala.” A resident of the area, Simon Joseph, said he saw the girl, but he thought the men had come to the church for service. “I was waiting for a friend outside when I saw those two men with the girl on a motorcycle. I thought they were family and were going back home until a few minutes later when people rushed out from the church and started looking for the girl,” he said. A member of the church, who declined to mention his name, told our correspondent that they learnt that the girl would be released if the family paid an undisclosed ransom to the kidnappers. The Lagos Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, however, said Olawunmi had been rescued by a police team drawn from divisions in the state, adding that he was not aware that the family paid any ransom. He said, “The child has been found in Abeokuta, Ogun State and reunited with her parents. Investigations are ongoing to track down the kidnappers.” The father, however, could not be reached for comments on the phone after the police confirmed that the girl had been rescued. Calls made to his line rang out and he had yet to reply to a text message sent to his number. www.punchng.com/metro-plus/three-year-old-lured-with-gala-from-lagos-rescued-in-ogun/

A six-month-old baby boy and four other people lost their lives in two separate fire disasters in Lagos State on Saturday. While the baby was burnt to death in the Ipaja area of the state around 8.30pm after his mother lit a candle, the other four victims lost their lives after a commercial bus had a lone accident in the Iponri area of the state In the Ipaja incident, the six-month-old baby boy was said to be asleep on the bed when the candle lit by his mother and placed on top of the wardrobe, fell on the mattress, causing a fire around 9.35pm. The incident happened in Shagari Estate, Mosan Okunola, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State. The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, who blamed the incident on the carelessness of the baby’s mother, said the child’s father was away at the time of the incident. He said, “The child’s father was not at home when it happened. It was the mother who lit a candle , placed it on top of the wardrobe and forgot it there. The candle burnt out and the six-months-old baby, which was on the bed, was burnt to death. “Lagos residents must stop using candles to avoid such fire incidents. It is advisable for them to use rechargeable lamps.” In the Iponri accident, a commercial bus with Lagos registration number, AKD 27 XA, and with nine passengers, burst into flames around Costain, Iponri area of the state. While five people were rescued with injuries, four others were not as fortunate as they were burnt to death. An eyewitness, who did not identify himself, told PUNCH Metro that the vehicle was on top speed and was descending the Eko Bridge when it hit a culvert and somersaulted. He said, “It was around 12 noon. The bus was coming from the Lagos Island through the Eko Bridge. It was trying to descend the bridge inward Costain, but it was on high speed. “Because of the speed, the driver lost control of the bus and it hit the culvert. It somersaulted several times and went up in flames. “There were nine people in the vehicle. Out of the nine, five were injured, but four people were burnt to death.” It was learnt that the police, officials of the Lagos State Emergency Service and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, were able to manage the situation. While LASAMBUS conveyed the survivors to the Lagos State General Hospital on the Lagos Island, LASTMA managed the gridlock that resulted from the accident. Policemen from the Iponri division were said to have taken the corpses to a mortuary. The spokesperson for LASTMA, Mrs. Bola Ajao, confirmed the incident, adding that the prompt response of traffic officials reduced the number of casualties. She said, “The vehicle burst into flames about five minutes after hitting the culvert. Those who died were the driver, the two passengers sitting with him in front and one other person sitting on the front row. They were all trapped immediately the accident happened and that was why they could not be rescued.” The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service said firemen from the Sari-Iganmu division arrived the scene with 10,000 litres of water. Fadipe said, “When we got the alert, we quickly mobilised our firefighters to the scene of the incident. But it was unfortunate that the four passengers could not be saved. People must learn to disembark a bus that the driver is speeding. The tragedy was preventable.” The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said the police had yet to get the relatives of any of the victims. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/baby-four-others-die-in-lagos-fire-disasters/

Una don hear the story of these movies producer wey go use person house to shoot movie scene? They needed someone to act the role of a gate man, so they offered the Aboki at the house some money to act the role. The director gave the Aboki a brand new cutlass and told him to give a pretence chase behind the 'main actor' who was acting the role of a thief who later repented. They told the Aboki: "If you hear me say "action" make you run after am o, just do things exactly as I say....you hear?". The Aboki nodded in affirmation. Some people are wicked and heartless.. Four girls at a go And if eventually he succeeded in selling those children, he would come back to sympathize with their parents, might even be active in search for those children.... The eediort should be charged with at least nothing less than 10 different counts of crime.. Starting from deceiving the minors by giving false information about their parents, attempts of rape, kidnapping etc. They should just hang his Joystick and allow is body to swing to and fro like that of pendulum...... |
