FoodHow To Cook Nigerian Native Soup by Twinkie8(op): 12:20pm On Aug 11, 2016
Native soup is called different names in different parts of the country. In the South, South South particularly, it's called afia efere. The ibo's call it ofe nsala and so on. It goes better with pounded yam, tuwo and amala than garri (eba). In English language we call it white soup because of the lack of palm oil, though sometimes I add just a drop for bright colour. This is one soup you cannot taste and dump. It is like magnetic, taste Nigerian native soup with swallow and you are hooked for life. Really really delicious.

Native soup is one of the easiest soups to cook because it has only 2 major ingredients. The rest are optional and one can always add and reduce but the taste remains the same if the 2 major ingredients are added: I enjoy it most without meat, just fish and other sea food:
MAJOR INGREDIENTS:
1. PEPPER LEAF (UZIZA)
2. SMALL PORTION POUNDED YAM, ACHI OR POUNDED COCOYAM FOR THICKENING

OTHER INGREDIENTS:
Cat fish
periwinkle
seasoning stock
pepper
salt
onion for steaming the fish
stock fish
crayfish
water of course

Once you have the base like when cooking any other Nigerian soups, check for salt and seasoning. Also add a few drops of oil to the base if like me you prefer the soup with colour. The last ingredients are the pounded yam or cocoyam and the hot leaf (uziza). A tablespoon of pounded yam should be ok if the soup is not in a very big pot.
Stir until thickened before turning off the heat. You can get a more detailed recipe on wives connection blog

FoodHow To Cook Nigerian Fish Stew by Twinkie8(op): 8:21am On Jul 22, 2016
Nigerian fish stew is cooked a bit watery. Not as thick as beef or chicken stew, it can be very delicious and nutritious. Fish stew is served with boiled rice, boiled plantain, yam, irish potatoes, agidi and boiled cocoyam or even water yam. It's very easy to cook as only few ingredients are used and honestly, in this economy, fish stew is very pocket friendly.

INGREDIENTS:
1 large croaker or mackerel
3 tablespoonfuls of tomato paste ( already boiled, blended tomatoes)
3 large red fresh peppers
Vegetable or groundnut oil
seasoning cubes
salt
water of course

Boil the fresh fish separately with onion and salt, keep aside.
Then, fry the tomatoes with onion, fresh pepper and seasoning same way Nigerian tomato stew is made. Check for seasoning and salt, add the fish stock and if it's still thick, add some water to lighten before emptying into the pot of already cooked fish. Place on low heat and allow to simmer, let that delicious stew taste seep into the fish before turning off the heat. Serve with boiled rice and garnish with some green vegetables by the side.

FoodNigerian Fried Rice With Diced Gizzard by Twinkie8(op): 8:35am On May 19, 2016
Fried rice as we know it is very colourful and boiled gizzard is normally used to add some brown colour and proteins. Liver has become so scarce and expensive that one needs to be creative. I cooked this fried rice without liver but boiled, diced gizzard and it turned out perfect. This Naija gizzard fried rice is something I'll suggest we all try making this weekend and watch our family and friends lick fingers and cutlery. wink

NAIJA FRIED RICE INGREDIENTS:
1. 3 cups basmati rice
2. 1 table spoon curry
3. seasoning cubes plus monosodium glutamate (white maggi)
4. Salt
5. Beef stock
6. 1 small plate green peas
7. 3 medium sized onion
8. I large red bell pepper (tatashey)
9. One medium sized green pepper
10. 4 large carrots
1. 12 pieces cooked gizzard

Family10 Signs Your Spouse Is Cheating by Twinkie8(op): 11:59am On May 09, 2016
Writing about signs a spouse is cheating doesn't mean that you become suspicious in your relationship. What this post aims to do is put you on prayer alert, guide you to put on your whole armour knowing that the weapons of your warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds even of cheating and deception. If you see these signs in your marriage, what does it mean? Watch and pray. Know where to target your prayer bullets. Better to be aware, fix before it's too late. Enter your war room and charge the atmosphere.

1. When your spouse begins to frequently change their passwords on the phone, computer, social media and even Emails, that doesn't seem ok to me. Chances are, they are trying to hide something.

2. Unless s/he is planning a surprise birthday party for you, if not why move
to a different room to answer the phone? Why shut the door to answer the phone? Why go where the conversation won't be heard. Is there a sleeping baby they don't want to wake with the telephone conversation or what?

3. Updating Social media profiles to look single is a red flag. Why would a married man or woman try to tell the world that they are single? A married man should be married even on the Internet Oh. A Married woman should be married even on Facebook and Online forums.

4. Do not be quick to jump to conclusion on this one but it happens. Your spouse' new found desire to look more physically attractive, wearing clothes that I may say look younger than their age, giving special attention to appearance unlike how it used to be. Well, it may be that your oga or madam is trying to look more professional for work but people generally take extra care of appearance when seeking a new relationship especially men.

5. If your earnings have not dropped, your family expenditure has not increased but there is a sudden pressure on you to manage money more than you used to, i.e be more economical, hmmmm, like there is no money and you wondering where is the money going? You spouse is more tighter with finances, expects you do so much more with very little, okay oh.

6. One big sign your spouse is cheating is when you find that the computer or phone History is always cleared. Why clear history regularly? what are you trying to hide? It might be for security reasons, it might also be that they are trying to cover tracks. Do you clear your computer/phone browsing history regularly for reasons other than these? let's hear them.

7. When, let's say your husband begins to keep late nights and you notice that his answers are very short like trying to cut you from talking further. na wah. He comes home, you open the door and say "welcome" Isn't he supposed to stop and respond to greetings? When there is some GUILTY CONSCIENCE, he continues walking while responding and gives you short, conclusive answers as if he meant to say "madam leave me alone, I've had a tiring evening, I need some peace and quiet"

8. I would have added skipping dinner but that doesn't work for some smart cheats o, they'll do everything but won't eat out because madam or oga will ask where they ate dinner. Some stomach space is reserved for dinner at home, so I'll skip this point.

9. When your husband starts calling names of soups you can't cook and wants to eat those, soups that even your mother-In-law doesn't know, better visit wives connection recipes, Nigerian food recipes on wives connection blog and finger licking recipes by blog readers all cooking live on the blog fast fast before one Edible Catering will overwhelm him with good food while you complain he doesn't eat well. Don't worry I'll leave links to more delicious recipes below.

10. Is s/he blaming you for everything that shouldn't even be your fault? short tempered for no just reason? He might just be trying to make you feel lousy...

Grilled chicken i can eat that but the one in the pics was just boiled and shredded right? Or do i grill then shred?
The one in the pic you can't fry it. Bought already shredded chicken to be sautéed or cooked this way. It's in sheds you'll love it. I too cannot eat other chicken parts that are just boiled without Frying or grilling.

FoodHow To Cook Noodles That Everyone Will Want To Eat by Twinkie8(op): 11:47am On Apr 22, 2016
I cooked this noodles same way we all make noodles in our homes. Only difference is I added more ingredients with the noodles and added the cooked shredded chicken at the end.

Cooking Procedure:

First, I boiled the shredded chicken with onion and salt for about 3 minutes because it cooked very fast. Then I boiled water for the noodles, added both the noodles and vegetables at the same time, waited for about a minute before adding the sardines. Noodles cooks really fast, in about 6 minutes it was ok for me then I added both the shredded chicken and delicious stock, stirred, waited a few seconds and turned off the heat.

INGREDIENTS below...

If you do not like noodles, you can actually cook spaghetti or macaroni like this, but increase cooking time from five minutes to ten or more.
Ingredients:

Water
A handful shredded chicken
I medium sized onion bulb for boiling the chicken and adding with vegetables
3 small packs noodles
3 large carrots, I cooked some and left some for garnishing
1 small green pepper
2 small sized tatashe
2 cabbage leaves
1 can sardines

Large serving noodles

Hot noodles

Shredded chicken with salt, water, oinion

Noodles and veggies added same time

Sardines in noodles

Shredded chicken and stock

Happy cooking!

FamilyWhat To Do When Your Husband/wife Financially Cheats by Twinkie8(op): 5:05pm On Apr 20, 2016
Let’s be honest with ourselves: Financial infidelity is cheating. It doesn’t involve sneaking off into seedy motel rooms or sending hot and steamy text messages to a paramour, but it does involve a series of secrets and lies that can devastate a relationship. Financial infidelity is any money-related conduct that involves one spouse being less-than-truthful or forthcoming with the other spouse. It often starts off small

Family10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Had Kids by Twinkie8(op): 1:27pm On Apr 18, 2016
You'll never sleep soundly again. From the moment you leave the delivery room with your baby into the post natal ward, you start to worry about what to do next and what to do after that and after that. Doctor visits, going early for immunizations, checking tiny heartbeats, checking even while baby is sleeping soundly, worrying bath water might choke baby, soap might hurt baby's tender eyes and so on. Sleep is gone out the window, even if the baby is a deep sleeper, I still cannot sleep. All through the years of my raising these kids, sleep deprivation has really dealt with me I won't lie. The sign is clearly written on my dark eye circles, but now, thanks to good Foundations and concealers, una for run when una see my dark eye pishures.
Mummy brain, I don't know if this too is caused by lack of sleep. Forgetfulness, keeping or hiding things and forgetting completely about them or unable to remember where stuff was hidden.
I wish I knew it's OK to make mistakes and not be too hard on myself while raising these kids and being too hard and stiff with the kids. Especially my first, she suffered small sha o, the others came when I had gained experience and known that being too strict on kids is not the way to raise good children.
Wish I knew not to compare my child with anyone, not even a sibling. Wish I knew not to worry silently about my child's inability to crawl yet, while her age mates are running around kicking balls.
That I have natural maternal instincts. Yes! They are in each one of us and if we only can listen. Trust your instincts mom.
It's ok when someone is watching my baby, whether they be my mom or mother-in-law. If they could care for and raise me and hubby, why shouldn't they be trusted to watch the new born baby? To let them care for their grandchild the way that they want and know how to, after all they raised me and hubby OR didn't they?
The laundry room will be my best friend, the laundry never ends especially on Saturdays. But now, all thanks to washing machines that have come to save us Nigerian women, our Saturdays can now be better spent instead of sitting on a stool all morning washing kids clothes while more continue to fill the just emptied laundry baskets.
To care for myself, to take some time for myself and that it's fine to be selfish sometimes and treat self first like have my bath and take care of me first before attending to kids. To be kind to myself and from time to time do things that I enjoy like read a book, play outdoors, jog on weekends, start and complete an interesting movie, manicure/pedicure. That taking care of myself makes me a happy woman, a better wife and mum.
