A pressure group , Vote for Atiku Initiative, has advised the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to show gratitude to the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for grooming him to become what he currently is in politics .
The group maintained that but for Atiku , Tinubu would have sunk into political oblivion 16 years ago.
“ If not for Atiku , Tinubu would have sunk into political oblivion since 2003 , ” the group said.
The group frowned on the way the APC leader had been attacking Atiku since the campaigns started.
The National Chairman of the group , Dr Ifeanyi Maduako , on Friday in Owerri , said that Atiku saved Tinubu in 2003 , when all the South -West governors except him (Tinubu ), could not return to office .
He said , “I want to remind Tinubu that it was Atiku as the then Vice President , who saved him from that political hurricane because of the personal love and friendship between them.
“ I want to also remind Tinubu that it was Atiku that saved him from defeat in 2003 . This was not because of religious or regional/zonal sentiments .
“ After all, Tinubu was not the only Muslim governor during the period. The late Lam Adesina and Chief Bisi Akande were also Muslims, but Atiku left them and saved Tinubu due to personal love and friendship. ”
Maduako , however, disagreed with Tinubu ’s recent remarks that Atiku was corrupt .
“ If Atiku is corrupt as he and the APC have alleged, why did he give Atiku the presidential ticket of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, which Tinubu controlled in 2007 to contest for the Presidency of the country ?
“ Why did Tinubu and the APC refuse to brand Atiku as corrupt throughout the time he was an APC member ?” Maduako asked .
On the recent allegation by Tinubu that Atiku failed to help Lagos State when former President Olusegun Obasanjo withheld the state ’s allocation at the twilight of Tinubu ’s tenure (between 2006 -2007 ) , Maduako reminded Tinubu that Obasanjo that it was not Atiku’ s fault .
“ Moreover , Atiku and Obasanjo had fallen out at the time and he (Atiku ) was shut out of government completely. So , how could Atiku have helped in that circumstance when he ( Atiku) himself was seriously embattled?

“ Over the years, even in 2014 APC presidential primaries , Tinubu ensured that Atiku came a distant third position Muhammadu Buhari and the then Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State .
“ The law of natural justice is calling on Tinubu to pay back Atiku’s benevolence and kind gesture to him over the years, ” Maduako said .
He admonished Tinubu to reciprocate Atiku’ s kind gesture to him in the past , especially at this time , when Atiku needs his friendship the most .

RELATED TOPICS: The presidency has released a factsheet showing federal government’s effort in curbing attacks and killings by Fulani herdsmen in Benue and other parts of the country.
The government in a statement said the killings have been happening since 2013 with over 190 people killed therefore faulting assertions that the attacks were happening because Buhari is Fulani.

It read: “Insinuations and allegations that the attacks and killings are happening because President Buhari is Fulani are both unkind and incorrect. These attacks long predated the Buhari Government. In 2013 no fewer than nine cases of herdsmen attacks were recorded in Benue State alone, with more than 190 people killed. In 2014 there were no fewer than 16 recorded attacks, in Benue, which claimed more than 230 victims. Between January and May 2015, six attacks left more than 300 people dead, again in Benue State alone.
“This historical context is important for a proper understanding of the issue, and to avoid unnecessarily politicizing what should be regarded and dealt with as acts of criminality. These attacks have been a longstanding issue, and successive governments have struggled to contain the situation.
“The Buhari Administration is more than fully committed to bringing the cycle of violence to an end, prosecuting the attackers, and preventing further killings and attacks. President Buhari has condemned the killings in Benue and other parts of the country and stands by his earlier directives to security agencies that all those behind wanton killings in any part of the country must be brought to book. The security agencies also have standing instructions to arrest and prosecute any and all persons found with illegal arms.
Federal Interventions
The recent killings in Benue and Taraba States have elicited the following Federal responses:
1. President Buhari has met with the Governor of Benue State on the matter, to assure him of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting farmers and communities.
2. President Buhari has directed the Inspector General of Police to relocate to Benue State.
3. On Monday January 8, 2018, the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, convened a security meeting on the issue, bringing together Federal and State government officials: Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Heads of security agencies, and the Governors of the most affected States: Adamawa, Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Taraba.
4. On Wednesday January 10, 2018, the IG held a Stakeholders engagement with the Benue State Government, elders, community, religious and traditional leaders etc
5. Since the first week of January, immediately following the January 1 attacks, the Inspector General of Police has deployed the following to the affected areas:
· Ten (10) Units of the Police Mobile Force
· Ten (10) Units of Police Special Forces (‘Tactical Operation Units’)
· Counter Terrorism Units
· Conventional Policemen.
· Police Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD)
· Special Police Joint Intelligence and Investigation Teams
· Police Aerial Surveillance Teams (Police Helicopters)
6. Five (5) Mobile Police Units deployed to protect IDPs in neighbouring Nasarawa State.
7. The Nigerian Army has deployed Special Forces to Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States.
8. In Benue State, eight ( suspected herdsmen are in Police custody over the recent killings, and are currently being prosecuted.
9. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working to establish cattle colonies across the country, in 2018. These colonies will provide grass and water for the cattle, and education and healthcare facilities for herders. They will also have Agro-Rangers deployed to secure the facilities.
10. On January 15, 2018, various past and present Benue state government officials, traditional elders and members of the House of Assembly gathered for a security meeting with the President on measures to curb violence in the state.
11. The Vice President has refuted claims that he had prior knowledge on attacks of alleged herdsmen in Logo and Guma LGAs of Benue state on Januray 1, 2018 without acting on it. Full press statement HERE.
12. On January 18, 2018, the National Economic Council, which is chaired by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has set up a committee to address the issues of conflict and violence between herdsmen and farmers in the country.

ABUJA – BARELY 24 hours after former President Olusegun Obasanjo advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting was flooded with the campaign fez cap with the inscription, “Continuity ’19: Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo”.

The South West Campaign Coordinator and Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, who reportedly was behind the production of the caps handed them over in a ‘Ghana-must-go” bag to the officers of the Cabinet Office at the Council Chamber to distribute to the ministers in attendance.
Shittu who is aspiring to contest the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State wore his own cap, while his other colleagues in the cabinet were expected to put on theirs.
The Minister that is having running battles with his state governor, Abiola Ajimobi is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that President Buhari is re-elected.

Lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye , has raised the alarm over alleged operation of a secret account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and other joint venture companies.
Melaye, who raised a point of order at the plenary on Tuesday, alleged that the account , which was supposed to be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria , was with Keystone Bank, had no Bank Verification Number and had a balance of $ 137m as of today (Tuesday) .
He said, “While some individuals and government appointees will continue to steal , we have decided to continue to expose corruption in public life.
“ This morning, I call the attention of the Nigerian Senate to a suspected , colossal , monumental corruption in NNPC .
“ A company was registered with the name ‘Brass LNG Limited’ with the Federal Government having controlling shares .
“ We have some Italians, Belgians and French as shareholders , with the Federal Government with a controlling share of about 50 per cent .
“ It is a known fact that once you have a joint venture, the account of such joint venture will be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria .
“ But in this case , that was not what happened. In private , the account was opened with Keystone Bank ; this account has no BVN and there has been periodic withdrawals ( from it ).
“ The last withdrawal from the account was to the tune of $ 4 m. As I speak to you, the balance of that account as of today is $ 137m .”
President of the Senate , Bukola Saraki , sought the permission of the lawmakers to allow Melaye to bring the matter up as a motion at the next legislative day , which was unanimously granted .
Melaye was asked to move the motion on Wednesday (tomorrow) .

A senior pastor in Abuja, Ayo Oseni has been paraded by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping his Church member identified as Grace.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, while parading the suspect, disclosed that the pastor had carnal knowledge of his Church member and reportedly duped her of a Lexus 300 vehicle.
Oseni was one of the 54 suspects paraded by the State Commissioner of Police yesterday, at the State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
However, the pastor, in a chat with journalists, denied the allegations, saying the car was a gift from his girlfriend.
He said, “We actually had a love affair in Abuja. I didn’t steal the car; it was a gift from my girlfriend in Abuja.
“I want the Police to get the actual fact about the case. I want them to get what really transpired between me and the lady.
“I don’t believe, as an accused person, I should be going through all these. The complainant should come and attest to the claim.”
The paraded suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from robbery, kidnapping, murder, cultism to illegal possession of firearms.

A 35-year-old Indian, Sunil Kuchakurni has been arrested by Indian police for allegedly stabbing his mother to death over the deceased refusal to give him money for alcohol.
Kuchakurni was alleged to have cut out the deceased, Yelava’s heart and intestines before eating them “with pepper and chutney,” Daily Mail reports.
The 35-year-old carried out the attack when he visited the 65-year-old at her home in Mahawala Vasant, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra in India.
According to the report, neighbour’s who saw him walking out of the deceased house with blood stained hands an hour after they heard screams, alerted the police.
The Senior Inspector of Shahupuri Police Station in Kolhapur, Sanjay More, while confirming the arrest of the suspect said the 35-year-old is in custody and investigation is ongoing.
More said, “He was unemployed and surviving on his mother’s pension. He’s an alcoholic and often stole money from his mother.”
The police Senior Inspector also disclosed that blood samples of the suspect are being tested to confirm if he ate parts of his mother’s body in a fit of rage.
“His wife and three children moved to Mumbai.
“His mother was fed up of him and refused to give him more money and then he killed her.
“Some parts of her stomach and her heart were extracted and found next to the body along with pepper and chutney when we reached the scene of the crime.
“We suspect he must have eaten some of the organs but it will only be confirmed after the medical reports are back.”

A 34 -year - old commercial driver in Amoshe town, Meiran, Lagos State , has been detained by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for allegedly killing his wife .
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect , identified only as Benjamin , beat his wife to death for allegedly getting drunk .
It was said that the victim , Stella, together with three of her friends – Fatima, Kafaya – and a man , Wasiu , had gone to have fun in a nearby bar.
She was said to have returned home inebriated, which angered her husband .
Benjamin reportedly beat her to a pulp and when it appeared tha she was dying , he rushed her to a church for prayer. She was later taken to a hospital in the neighbourhood , where she was confirmed dead.
A resident , Mr . Samson Adedeji, stated that Benjamin usually assaulted his wife whenever she was drunk .
Adedeji said , “The wife came back home on Saturday , July 1 , drunk . Her husband was angry , but people begged him to allow her sleep. He didn ’t heed to their plea . He beat her up seriously. It was the following day that I was told the wife died in a hospital .”
An elderly woman in the area , Mrs . Aribisola Amoshe , said although she did not know what transpired between the couple, there were marks of violence on the deceased .
She said , “ I learnt about the incident through a neighbour. Before her body was deposited in a mortuary , I saw it . There were injuries on her body.”
However , Benjamin reportedly told the police that Stella was poisoned at a beer parlour .
He said, “ I think she was poisoned because she vomited . She went to drink with her friends. I didn ’t beat her. ”
But one of the deceased ’s friends , Fatimoh, who was also arrested by the police , refuted Benjamin ’ s claim.
“ The four of us were together that day . We took a bottle of beer each . My friend died from the injuries inflicted on her by her husband . She didn ’t fight with anybody at the bar,” she added .
When contacted , the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous -Cole , promised to call back for comments on the the incident .
However , a police source said the case had been transferred to the SCIID , Yaba, adding that a manhunt had been launched for the other two friends of the deceased .

Eagles/Cameroon battle: Siasia advises Rohr

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has summoned Cameroon’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abbas Salahedine, to give explanations on the reported maltreatment and killings of Nigerians in the Bakassi Peninsula by Cameroonian Gendarmes.
In a statement the government expressed dismay over the attacks said to have been occasioned by alleged non-payment of taxes on fishing activities.
“The ministry has instructed the Nigerian Missions in Yaounde and Buea, to investigate the report with a view to confirming their veracity and inform Headquarters immediately,” the statement signed by the Ministry’s acting spokesperson, Jane Adams, said.
“The ministry appeals to the Cameroonian authorities to exercise their duty of care and protection over the people of Bakassi, including other Nigerian citizens in the area,” the statement said.
A report on Friday had stated that no fewer than 97 Nigerians were killed as Cameroon Gendarmes allegedly attacked residents of Bakassi over failure to pay a N100,000 boat levy.
The report said the attackers sacked mainly Nigerians from Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Ondo States.
Many others were however said to have escaped at midnight with their fishing boats and arrived at Ikang in Bakassi and Ibaka in Akwa Ibom.
Nigeria ceded ownership of the peninsula to Cameroon in 2008.
The killing and sacking of Nigerians in former Bakassi is a violation of the 2005 Green Tree Agreement (GTA) by the Nigeria-Cameroon Mixed Commission.
The agreement stipulated that the Bakassi returnees must be properly resettled to their natural homes so that they can have a meaningful living.
The GTA also states that Nigerians who choose to remain in Cameroon can do so without any molestation.
