TV/Movies / Kiddwaya: Big Brother Apologises For Bias Article Against Housemate by uanenga(m): 3:00pm On Aug 09, 2020
The organisers of Big brother Naija, a top reality TV show have apologized over an article posted on the website, in which a house mate, Kiddwaya was portrayed in bad light.

This was following last night's party when another house mate, Laycon claimed he was protecting Erica, who was drunk, from her lover Kiddwaya, aledging that the couple may have s3x under the influence of alcohol.

Apparently, Laycon was also interested in Erica but claimed he resisted kissing her all night because of the respect he had for her, saying he won't do so when she was drunk but thought otherwise of Kiddwaya.

The article on africamagic.dstv.com came hard on Kiddwaya, calling him a "serial flirt" while Laycon was hailed for being a gentleman and respecting boundaries.

An excerpt of the piece reads, "Take a look at the man Erica chose to give her heart to, Kiddwaya. He has been a serial flirt and though Erica was one of his targets, she wasn't his first choice like she was for Laycon... When it comes to respecting boundaries, they don't come any better than Laycon. While most other men would have forced a kiss, Laycon's patient manner, and calm demeanour has shown that in the race to win Erica's heart, he's a marathon runner, not a sprinter".

This didn't go down well with fans of the show who launched an attack on the organisers with the hashtag #JusticeForKiddwaya and threatened to sue bigbrother for defaming Kiddwaya and showing bias towards Laycon.

Bigbrother has since issued an apology for their bias and taken down the said article from their website. However, this action has made fans of the show to question the motive of the organisers, with some aledging they may have anointed a winner irrespective of votes cast.

Health / Benue Health Workers To Commence Indefinite Strike On Thursday by uanenga(m): 6:35am On Jun 17, 2020
Benue health workers to commence indefinite strike

Health workers under the auspices of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) and Joint Health Sector Union ( JOHESU) in Benue state will on Thursday, 18th June 2020, commence a total and indefinite strike action.

This was disclosed by the state Chairman of NAGGMDP, Dr Diatah James today in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

He said the union had given the state government a 21-day ultimatum over issues that needed urgent attention in the health sector of the state, however the state government is yet to address their demands.

According to him, health workers in the state were owed salary arrears of between five to nine months which was unacceptable. Other demands include timely payment of salaries, payment of special covid-19 allowance, immediate implementation of CONHESS skipping of health workers at the Primary Health Centres and payment of their arrears.

He called for proper entry point for medical laboratory scientists, provision of adequate personal protective equipment for frontline health workers battling covid-19 and also massive employment of all cadre of health workers to avoid collapse of the health sector in the state.

Dr Diatah said the health workers will be forced to embark on their planned strike following the expiration of their 21-day ultimatum on Thursday, and called on the public, including well-meaning sons and daughters of the state, royal fathers and the government to intervene in order to save the health sector from imminent collapse.

The strike, when commenced, will shutdown all the general hospitals in the 23 local governments of the state.

0m0nnakoda:

You appear to misunderstand the letter you are posting
Residents are expected to pass exams in 8 years but it could be less.
That does not place ANY obligation whatsoever on employers.
Infact an employer could offer a four year contract without breaching any law

The duration is Residency is by a time period from eligibility for exams. For instance, if you are to go for a mandatory posting and your institution doesn't release you for it until 6 years expire, will that mean your time is up? The answer is no. That is why the 2017 medical residency training act pegs the duration of Residency on a time period from when you are eligible to sit for an exam, 12 months for junior residents and 18 months for senior residents. Of you are a doctor or familiar with Residency Training, this should be very clear.

And unlike your submission, a training institution cannot have it's own regulations for Residency outside the Residency Training Act of Nigeria. So they can't offer resident doctors 4 years like you said.

U are right about 3 doctor, who's resident permit has expired since last year. And the dept that they are is not accredited by the hospital, so why keeping them @their cost.

This is not the case. They are 32 doctors cut across all the departments of the hospital.

If they are on firm legal ground they can go to court.
My reading of the situation I s that there is no obligation to offer an extension it is a privilege

Is it that you disagree with my facts or what? Cos I've availed all the facts to you.

There is nothing in the law obliging an employer to keep a resident for 8 years you can cut and paste your training
Look for another centre

You obviously don't know what the Residency Training Act is all about. I'm not affected anyway, so no need to say I should look for another centre. Just telling you what the law says.
The NPMCN writes to training institutions every six months, recommending residents that are due for exit. The training institution cannot unilaterally exit a resident using their own local hospital rules. Residency is not a local affair.

Are you saying they can be retained for ever even if they don't pass their exams?
I don't see it as a sack at all.
Their contract has run its course and they need to create room for new residents

The exam is written every six months and a junior resident has 12 months from the time of eligibility and the senior resident has 18 months from the time of eligibility to pass. Even when a senior resident passes, he/she has 6 months to spend with the training institution before leaving.
This is what the Residency Training Act says.
Residency is not regulated by individual hospitals. Read this letter from the NPMCN to all CMDs.

0m0nnakoda:
Resident doctors are not employees per se They are essentially TRAINEES.
Trainees have a peculiar contract with budget for training, courses ,study leave etc
Infact it is not usual to offer an extension.
They are expected to pass their Fellowship exams during the duration of the contract and move on to create room for fresh intakes
If they have not passed their exams in the expected period they could consider Staff grade =Medical Officer roles
They should not deny training spaces to fresh residents

That said, it needs to be done according to the law. Residency training is not done in 6 years and only the national postgraduate medical college of Nigeria is empowered by law to exit a resident doctor from their training.
See the attached letter from the national postgraduate medical college of Nigeria to all CMDs of training institutions.

lilyheaven:
But why haven't they passed out? Does it mean 30 of them failed residency exams.
Since November 2019, this is April 2020.
This doctors are playing emotional blackmail here, an institution can't just sack 30 doctors without a reason, besides the letter I read wasn't a sack letter.

None of them has been allowed to sit for exams. Even those that would have had exams this month, if not for the coronavirus pandemic, were told to leave.
Some are not even eligible for exams yet.
None of them have written the part II exams, talk more of failing.
Moreover, according to the medical Residency act, a senior Resident has 18 months from when they are eligible for exams, to pass.

An average Nigerian is a crook. Do you see how they cover the date? This is blackmailing and I hope Benue state don't take it lightly with this guys.
There was a contract of 6years which I am pretty sure they are in the know of the duration. Instead of thank you at the expiration of the contract, choose to take advantage of the current covid19 to blackmail their employee into retaining them against the original contract term.

The sack was not done in accordance with the medical Residency Training Act.
For instance, even doctors whose departments got accreditation two years after they were employed, were given letters that six years had elapsed even when two of those years did not count.
Secondly, Residency Training in Nigeria is guided by the Residency Training Act of Nigeria which was signed into law by the president in 2017. The duration of Residency is based on time from eligibility to sit for exams and not an absolute duration.

The agreement cited by the residents may be in place, but it does not mean that it is ethically right to milk it to its maximum capacity. The thing is that Federal teaching hospitals pay very well so the residents are often reluctant to leave. It is extremely difficult for them to get private jobs that pay as much; even as qualified consultants. I don't know about the specific reason behind this specific issue, but if it is due to the time period as they say, then I think it is understandable. Let others get a shot at residency.

I don't know about the strike actions.

The 2017 medical residency training act is the law that regulates residency training in Nigeria. It specifies how a resident should enter and leave training.
A junior resident leaves 12 months after eligibility for exams while a senior resident leaves 18 months after eligibility for exams. And when a senior reg passes and becomes a consultant, he/she leaves the institution after 6 months of passing.
This is the law and anything short of this is illegal.

I like where he said " By constitution, I have the power to sack who I appointed"

I thing Jonathan is just too democratic. People like Oshiomole, Tinubu, OBJ, even Buhari will not tolerate all what he is tolerating.

You people knew what happen to critics of OBJ right. Ask Edris Aldukarim, he just said Nigeria jaga jaga and he went on exile for years until the next government entered. And do not also forget those politicians who opposed him ended up in jail like Bode George just because of third tenure saga.

The problem is Nigerians forget things easily and that's why we keep celebrating thieves and corrupt people once they say what we want to hear and forget they did worst during their reign.

Nigeria be wise and vote wisely.. GEJ 2019

Ignorant post, don't you know that the budget is done using crude oil prices and income way below expectation? Stop confusing people with your ignorance.
