You use the term 'our people' created a thread for themselves. May I then ask you who created this thread - Anambra State, Light of The Nation,Economic and Political Power House of the East? Was it not 'our people'. We were given a platform by Nairaland to create this thread for our people. I do not have to wait for or post pictures. At least you have given a matured response and this is welcome and helpful.
VintageCocktail:
If you are from Anambra post pics from Anambra not waiting for others to do so. Our people used the opportunity that presented some weeks ago to create a forum for themselves and have moved on.
You can continue waiting for pictures from the state and intelligent discourse here but it won't be happening.

Who do you think you are to dictate to nairaland users especially on this thread (Anambra) that we should move over to your Omambala thread? Have you never heard of freedom of choice? I am from Anambra and I will post my correspondence on any thread of my choice. Thousands of us have found a lot of joy and information as to the development in our state especially those of us who live far away from home. I strongly advise you stick to your 'Omambala' and leave others to make make their choice.

The present crop of so called Igbo leadership are inept and lack political strategy and foresight. The great Igbo political leaders of old were more aware of the place of the Igbo within Nigeria and sought to endeavour that they were always at the top table. What we have today are a bunch of selfish, greedy and backstabbing pygmies who have diminished the great strides of our legendary past leaders.

What exactly are they fighting over? That everyone in Anambra knows about the 'rift' is not fact. Give us the details which you do not seem to have just mere hearsay. I am aware that the commissioner was also honoured and that they all took group pictures and for your information the governor and Peter embraced each other pictures do not lie. I strongly suggest you look into your records or archives before you post comments. And for your information I support Willie as the present governor and Peter as the former governor, they have both done well for my state it is called continuity.
FreeGlobe:

stop being silly, a thread is already on the front-page about their puported "reconciliation" which was initiated by the obi of onitsha through the president. Everyone in Anambra knows about their rift. There are many articles online you can find out about that since your not on ground. Talking about the papal Knight event, Obiano's commissioner of works was also honored with the same title so that's why he was there probably. Did you find any photo of both of them together at the service?
Finally, saying that Peter obi did well for Anambra is your own opinion which does not hold any water!

There is no rift between them I do not understand why some people are trying their utmost to portray a rift between the two men. If anyone has any facts or details of this rift please enlighten us. Recently, at Awka Peter Obi was made a papal knight of the Catholic Church the gov; was there with his cabinet and Victor Umeh. Also at the recent APGA special convention, the gov; mentioned Peter Obi in glowing terms and that though he was no longer with them he praised him for the good works he did in the state. Governments are not run on personalities, Willie Obiano is the governor and he runs the state as he sees fit. They have both done well for Anambra state and I respect them both.
FreeGlobe:
^
I can guarantee that Peter obi orchestrated this "reconciliation" through his puppet, the obi of onitsha. Lets hope that Obiano will be wise enough not to fall into his trap. Peter obi is very desperate to regain political relevance. smh
Perhaps the people who argued with me here about the rift between them will now realize how far they are from happenings in the state.

Politics / Re: Please Find Below, The Reasons, Why Igbos Are Better Voting Buhari. by Ubomeze: 3:53am On Dec 15, 2014
Ikemba Nnewi never won an election under the NPN. He lost the senatorial seat to Dr Edwin Onwudiwe in 1983.
IROHINOodua:
Political Equation of Nigeria.

Politics is a game of numbers, that involves bargaining, strategic thinking, negotiations, re-positioning etc. It involves give and take, scratch my back, I scratch your back. There are no permanent enemies or friends in politics, rather permanent interest. Also there are little or no room for sentiments in politics. Bayelsa State (State of origin of our President) has only 590,679 registered voters. The entire South South region has a total of 9,486,783 registered voters. Other regions are as follows, North Central, 11,466,596, North East, 10,445,510, North West, 18,616,499, South East, 7,178,185, and South West, 13,188,854. Supporting President Goodluck, means Igbos would expect same support from Bayelsa and South South region, when an Igbo persons wants to seek the office of the President of Nigeria. Assuming the entire South South gives such a person 100% votes, that would not be sufficient to win the Presidential election. But the fact remains that a non indigene cannot secure 100% votes from South South. Besides, no winner has ever secured 100% votes. Therefore, the political mathematics dictates that Igbos support Buhari/North, in return for Northern support, when it’s the turn of Igbos. Per adventure if President Jonathan wins in 2015, by 2019, PDP can never zone the Presidency to South East. Its going North.

South East Economic Interests/Investments.

The Igbos have more investments and businesses in the North, much more than in Bayelsa State and the entire South South region. There are only 6 states in the South South region, while there are 19 states in the North, that is North West, North East and North Central. Therefore, millions of Igbo stand to make more money through their businesses in the North than South South. This becomes more obvious, when there are no federal government support schemes for the survival of Igbo business people all over Nigeria. Igbos survive on self help. Compare it with what the same federal government budgeted for Niger Delta militants in 2014 budget. (A)Stipends and Allowances to 30,000 Niger Delta Militants under the Presidential Amnesty Programme: N23.6 Billion (twenty three billion, six hundred million Naira). (B)Reintegration of Transformed Ex Militants: N35.4 Billion (Thirty Five Billion, Four Hundred Million Naira).

Historical Antecedents.

During the First Republic, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe’s party (NCNC) went into alliance with the Northern People’s Congress (NPC). During the Second Republic, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe’s party, Nigerian Peoples’ Party (NPP), broke away from Waziri Ibrahim’s party, Great Nigerian Peoples’ Party. Zik’s party (NPP) won a Governorship election in Plateau State, thru Chief Solomon Lar. This was the only state outside South East, that his party (NPP) won a Governorship election. Chief Alex Ekwueme was the Vice President under President Shagari. Chinua Achebe, was the Vice Presidential Candidate/running mate to the Late Aminu Kano, under Peoples’ Redemption Party (PRP). Ikemba Nnewi, contested Senatorial election and won under National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

Ex Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, appointed Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, as his second in command/deputy. General Sani Abacha, fully sponsored Ikemba’s wedding with his wife (Bianca). General Buhari, chose Okadigbo and Umezoke respectively in 2003 and 2007 as running mates. Ojukwu’s running mate under APGA was Sani Ibrahim Bayero (a brother of the late Emir of Kano). Ex Vice President, Atiku Abubakar chose Senate Ben Obi as running mate in 2007. Igbos voted massively for Yar Adua, against their own leader (Ikemba Nnewi) in 2007.

Biafran War.

No political story of Igbos, would be complete, without reference to the civil war. The writer does not intend to open old wounds neither will he, exonerate any tribe that fought against the Igbos. Also, this is in response to series of emails/questions that, the Northerners caused Igbos hardship thru the war etc. The major reason for the collapse of Biafra, was not the Hausas only, but principally the economic blockade, starvation policy and change of currency, all initiated by Awolowo and the sabotage from the Ijaws. To make matters worse, Awolowo as then finance minister, gave every Igbo man £20 pounds, irrespective of any amount you had then, plus the abandoned properties, seized by old Rivers State indigenes.

The Finance Minister gave sufficent warning to Nigerians to prepare for a 'rainy day'. Now that it is upon us we look for scapegoats. Nigeria is part of the global village and thus we are subject to the ever changing world economic winds. At present the oil producing nations are pumping 30 million barrels of oil a day into the market led by Saudi Arabia this in turn has led to a drop of a barrel of oil to $77 dollars. The Americans are also producing their own oil which has made her less dependent on Nigeria and other oil producing nations. Nigeria needs to earn at least $123 dollars a barrel to balance her budget and build up her reserves which have been depleted by our greedy 'leaders' who always insist on sharing out our collective wealth instead of saving for a rainy and cutting out wasteful spending.

What decision? Did you read his response to those PDP 'bigwigs' who came to his house in Onitsha to beg him to join their party. He did not tell them he will join PDP. Go and read his response and don,t misquote him out of context.
Kponkwem:
Peter Obi and the Rubbishing of Ojukwu's Memory

The news of Peter Obi's decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) away from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is ominous sign of the final obfurcation of the memory of Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu, former leader of the Republic of Biafra and the greatest Igbo leader ever.

By leaving the party that brought him to relevance, Obi has sounded a death knell on the APGA, the legacy of Ojukwu and the hope of Igbo political renaissance.

When in 2003 Obi, a relatively unknown private sector billionnaire, was running for the Awka Government House, it took the presence of Ojukwu to persuade Anambrarians to vote him to power.

Ojukwu then raised his hands at rallies proclaiming that "ndi be anyi, unu tunyelu nwa m, unu akwaa m n'ndu." This means "My people if you elect 'my son' you have immortalised and interred me in life."

Peter Obi coasted to victory in a popular poll against the money bags of the Uba brothers and the Obasanjo-led Abuja machinery. When Obi's mandate was stolen, again it took the roaring lion of Nnewi to egg him on to reclaim his mandate through the courts.

Fast forward to October 2014, Ojukwu is dead but his memory and legacy still lives among the Igbo and all true Africans. An Obi, who professed love for and one of the biggest beneficiaries of the man, has jumped ship! He has began the process of burying the party which serves as Ojukwu's legacy.

Ojukwu must be turning in his grave! The visioner of APGA Chekwas Okorie must be reeling in anguish! All true Igbo are in shock! Aru eme!

Of what benefit is this defection to the people? This is betrayal! The Igbo as a giant race (Enyimba) must rise up against this men that have sold the people's destiny for a mess of porridge.
Politics / Re: Former Anambra State Gov- Peter Obi Defects From APGA To PDP by Ubomeze: 6:54am On Oct 08, 2014
He has not defected and he did not make the statement you mentioned. Read what his reply was to those PDP members who came to 'beg' him to join their party.
Stellaodoni1:
former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, on Tuesday defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The defection was declared by Obi himself at a well celebrated ceremony at his Onitsha residence, where PDP Memvers from the South-East and the entire country turned the place into a carnival, which was attended by a large number of people the commercial city for many hours.

Mr Peter Obi Explained that he defected to PDP from the regionally-based APGA because he found the PDP to be a better platform to work for national development. He also said his new party would afford him a better opportunity to work with President Goodluck Jonathan, with whom he had aligned in his days as an APGA governor.

In his words -“Nobody is more committed to President Goodluck Jonathan than me. So, I will work with him. I am going to work with the President. It is a question of working with the President wholeheartedly and not one leg in APGA and the other leg in PDP. There is the need for us to work together"

Please stop being so pessimistic over the international terminal project. It will be completed and handed over on schedule in September 2015.The Federal govt is satisfied with the ongoing works and have no issues with the Chinese company handling the project. It has nothing to do with Chime Sullivan hence he leaves office the work continues. Stop looking for obstacles were there are none, for over 40 years after the civil war Enugu was neglected and no international flights landed or took off from the airport until now. The airport will grow mark my words. Cheers
biafrandream:

For someone to think the airport will be completed before Chime leaves office, shows that many of us have not accepted the reality of Igboman's second class status in the Zoo called Nigeria.

To even suggest that Chime has not done all he could to ensure the airport was completed means we have not truly appreciated his determination to make Enugu one of Nigeria's most tourists and business attractions. I do not think he needs to be reminded about the importance of the airport to the development of Enugu. If not, why would he waste money to open a new link road to the airport. Building the link road shows that if he were allowed by the federal government, he would equally build the airport.

For many us who live in the fantasy world of one Nigeria, please wake up and face the reality.

Even Jonathan's hand is tied as far as that airport is concerned. The airport poses a non existent threat to the Hausa/Fulani/Yoruba slave masters. They understand how strategic that airport is to the development of Igbo land, which is why they will fight to death to frustrate it's international status.

The airport was accorded international status even before Jonathan came to power but when you search the website of the FAAN, Enugu is still missing as one of the international airports in Nigeria. Everyone here knows how important web information is, when it comes publicising the existence of anything in the modern world.

If the fearless Stella Odua could not add the Enugu as one of the international airports in Nigeria to the FAAN website, is it the so called Chidoka that would.

Has any of you wondered why Ethiopian airline should touch Kano before coming to Enugu? It's because Enugu remains a local airport in reality but international in government paper.

That's the price you pay for being Igbo.

Jim Nwobodo was elected the first civilian governor of Anambra state in 1979 and stayed in office up to 1983 when he was rigged out of office by the then NPN govt that installed CC Onoh after a court battle. CC Onoh was governor for 3 months before Buhari overthrew the Shagari adminisrtation in December 1983.
OrlandoOwoh:
Anambra State was created by Murtala Muhammed in February 1976. It's capital was Enugu. Its first executive governor was Jim Nwobodo, later C. C. Onoh. It's university had three campuses in Enugu, Awka and Nnewi. When Enugu State was created, it inherited the one in Enugu (now ESUT). The one in Awka (now NAU) was handed over to the FG by Ezeife in 1993.
Politics / Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Ubomeze: 8:11am On Sep 08, 2014
Thankyou for your comments which mirror my own thoughts. For those who have doubts about the completion of AIIA please read todays (8-9-14) THIS DAY paper titled 'Airports Remodelling; Aviation Minister orders contractors back to site'. There is no reason to fear that AIIA will not be completed, in so far as Osita Chidoka is concerned all projects will be completed on schedule.
ChimaAdeoye:

I completely concur with your statement of the usually low quality and poor-ugly design SE governors (EXCEPT) Chime usually settle for. I agree with you that Sullivan Chime's projects such as the Twin bridges at Ziks avenue, the state secretariat etc bear evidence of his trademark high taste and high standard. I have also regrettably realized that an ugly shape does not necessarily mean it is cheap! Some of our SE projects cost much more than projects in other parts of the country, yet they are not exactly eye popping. Imagine that the exquisitely designed Dutse airport cost just N11 billion Naira to build!!! If that airport were in the SE, it would have cost 10 times more and with an all concrete ugly design like in the second picture.

Airports require to have enough space to develop and reach their full potential. This takes time, and with time land poachers insidiously encroach on the airport land.Securing airport land away from land poachers in a growing city such as Enugu will be one touch hell of a job.
I think the greatest gift Chime can give to the AIIA is to guarantee enough space for it to develop into a regional aviation hub. This will be difficult as people will see the land reserved for the expansion of the airport as a waste of space. Chime should in the interim use barbed wire fencing to secure about 700-800 meters of land in front of the present 3KM runway and donate it to the airport to guarantee there will be space for runway extension when the funds are available. In this way, when the present runway needs to be extended to atleast 3.5 KM which is the global standard for international airports to enable safe takeoff & landing of the maximum cargo weight-laden Boeing 747s or airbus 340 huge airplanes to operate long distance cargo haulage flights to Enugu, there will be space to do that.
Likewise, the state government should also ban any building construction in the land on the airport side of the Ekulu river. The Ekulu River must be a natural boundary demarcating the airport property from Abakpa phase-2 being aggressively developed as we speak.
This area will be part of the airport as it develops into an aviation hub and will readily provide land for a parallel second runway which may be required in the future if the airport becomes very busy from being a hub.

The looming tragedy we have continued to observe since last year when the first international flight into Enugu occurred, is that land grabbers have invaded all the open spaces around the airport area, which will ultimately choke the airport of land for future expansion and rob it of the opportunity to become a true aviation hub in the future.

The new minister said and i quote ' I see that my predecessor had done very well in the terminal buildings, so all that we need is to focus and complete the work that has already started. But with that, we want to pull our resources away from the terminal remodelling and focus more on the security and safety of airports'. As you can see from his statement he has no intention of stopping what has already been started, besides the finance comes from the Chinese banks who are also building them. Please lets have patience airports are not built in months, the completion and handover date for the new terminal is September 2015.

'World class infrastructure' with a run down and derelict Hotel Presidential.
cjrane:

Chai, If I were a woman, i would have married Sullivan Chime for free!

The man has solid vision of taking Enugu to the next level as a first class city in Africa with world class infrastructure, especially roads.
While his peers compete amongst themselves on who will build the crappiest, most inferior roads and projects, Sullivan takes special care to ensure that none of his projects are shoddy. He takes pride in providing well marked smooth roads with world-class street lights, working traffic lights, well laid drainage gutters on every road, well mapped out & designed residential estates and even an industrial free trade zone being developed.
With the completion of the cargo building at the airport, Enugu is definitely poised to take the future by storm.

NB: We need to start using the proper tools for road marking. This saves time and does the job professionally using the proper spray tools. Than the Nigerian way of manually painting the line on the road through a carved cardboard sheet. That is too labor intensive and takes a very long time to mark a very short distance.

Thanks for the pictures. I lived in Aba from 1977 to the 1990s and i remember when the roads were being built newly by late Sam Mbakwe in the 1980s. It was a massive job at the time with the whole city turned into a construction site. The gutters used to be cleared out once a month by all the residents. From the pics you have shown they are the same roads Mbakwe built they just need maintenance and good drainage. Faulks road has always suffered from flooding but was resolved by rebuilding the drainage. We must take note that Aba is on a flat surface and lies below sea level.
chinasaekperem: I will post more pics, meanwhile let me make one thing clear, aba's population figure is false, the aba I know might contain about 10million people, if the waste management and infrastructural quagmire in aba is gonna be fixed, then the real population figure of aba should be estimated. From here the city can be effectively planned and managed in respect to its population, make I no lie, aba get population die. Working on my ntwrk, brb to post more pics.
