FOODIC: yea... thats it but to be frank with yu... there has neva been a king in my place talk more of kingdom..... infact all we know is umunna... if there had been a king we would hav known at least in stories... but no Umunna is an Igbo Village Authority but outside your village you must be under an Autonomous Confederation of many united Villages who are from the same patriachial lineage with an EZE at the head. |

genuinechimere: This post will end up dividing igbos more than uniting them. I'm Igbo, but don't really put much interest about this history stuffs. Whether Nri is †ђξ father of igbos or not, that's actually none of my concern. Lol. Quote me and get a laptop Lol. We are just ina sibiling argument in dis thread, IGBO IS IGBO. |

HopeAtHand: I like this thread. This thread examplifies the true Republican nature of the Igbo. It is should not be seen as lack of cohesion when arguments are being made as to the origin of the entire Igbo race. Arguments helps to create a clearer picture of the issue at hand.I like the arguments, very insightful and revealing. Big Thanks to udordike, bigmarx and okwadatigbogal aswell as udmaster for your revealing contributions.
As an Ikwerre, the Nri story isnt something we are conversant when our history is told. In all, big ups to all of you. the truth is that many Igbo groups are descendant of Eri who was a Powerful King and Established a well organised and documented kingdom which influenced many people esp. with his IGBO UKWU CIVILIZATION. - Republic nature of Igbos is due to migration and expansion into deeper habitation. It is not a lack of cohesion but a reflection of our philosophy Biri Ka mu Biri, Live and Lets Live.. Dats why we have lived in peace with our Efik/Ibibio neighbours for years. - The Aro Confederation is an Ancient Igbo kingdom who have their descendant scattered around in many areas.. |

udordike: Nri enwlani, Nri Amoke, Tabansi Udene and others are names that we are still conversant with n'ala Igbo.
Some of them even reigned from the cradle. Because the government is republican in nature and so a regent rules in their place until they are ready.
Also, its a known fact that we Igbos do not care who rules or not because we see ourselves equal but when our lands are plagued with problems, we still send emmissaries to Agukwu Nri or Arochukwu for answers before the advent of Christianity.
Lastly, we may not acknowledge the prowess of those hierachies now but myths and legends still confirm how everything went down.
Kudos to the op for the cool write up. Wikipedia is also there to clear our doubts. All the ofe nmanus should just read and not comment. Because most of you guys are here to tarnish Igbo images and identity. tarnish kwa? LOL. IGBO is a Beautiful Noble Tribe/Nation with a strong fortified culture and identity both in Food, Attire, Festival, Music, Sweet Language that gives life to a worship, Beauty, etc. PROUDLY IGBO ANYDAY ANYTIME. |

okwadatigbogal: I am a proud IGBO! It's just that NRI is not my origin! Chikena I know of Aro. It is an Ancient Kingdom. - but our Igbo language, Market day counting, and many civilization were from NRI Kingdom. - Nri Igbo is the oldest Igbo dialect and every other dialect today evolved from it. |

okwadatigbogal: The ancient writing system u talk about is called NSIBIDI! it was originated from the Ibibio/Efik people and the Aro's being closely affiliated with the Ibibios were the first set of present day Igbos to use it. It never originated from NRI. Aro is greatly affiliated with the Ibibios in present day Cross-River. Many ancient texts has even ascribed our origin to and Ibibio prince. That is why we have a lot of things in common with them. Even the popular long juju of the Aro people is called - Ibini Ukpabi(does it sound igbo to u). We have the Ekpe cult system and original Aro dialect is very mixed with Ibibio. So pls learn a little about history before u distort it. It is really offensive to see ppl claiming nonsense. In the past Aro people were known as the - Igbocalabar. so what your tribe now? |

adozie: You Abians??... That's the problem of our society and the major problem in igboland. What is Abia? What is Anambra?? Mental enslavement. The create states for you, give you a geopolitical name and next thing you start to discriminate, deny and divide your heritage. I pity for this generation of Igbos thank you bro! Just imagine them, Abia Igbo, Anambra Igbo etc always trying to cause division. All Igbos migrated from Nri because it is the Oldest kingdom in Nigeria and Igbo Civilization(days counting, deities etc are from NRI) |

Bigmarx: Infact when my dad told me our full history I discovered we were from Ijaw and migrated to present day Imo state. He also told me that so many Igbo communities especially from Imo and Abia migrated from rivers and some from Congo. For instance some okrika people live presently in Imo and bears umuokrika.......so the igbos do not hve once source. Basically Igbos were migrants and settlers! Thats a Lie from the PIT OF HELL. Nri was the origin of all Igbos, then migration started when Igbos started settling in more hinterland and deeper areas. - I will recommend you a book on that for you know properly about Nri Migration. |

Nri is the ancestral home of all Igbos. It is an ancient Igbo city-state in Anambra State. The Kingdom of Nri was a center of learning, religion, and commerce in pre-colonial times. Historians have compared the significance of Nri, at its peak, to the religious cities of Rome or Mecca. -- It was the seat of a powerful and imperial state that influenced much of the territories inhabited by the Igbo of Awka and Onitsha to the east; the Efik, the Ibibio, and the Ijaw to the South; Nsukka and southern Igala to the north; and Asaba, and the Anioma to the west. - The rulers of Nri did not use military conquest, but used religious authority and control of commercial routes as tactics in the spread of their city-state. Politically, Nri is known to be the most ancient origins of the Eze kingship in Igbo societiesSo, we present to you 7 important things to know about Eze Nri as follows: No 1) Eze Nri, is believed to be a spirit, and therefore in his spirit state does not need to worship deities or idols. No 2)Before his coronation as king, each Eze-Nri is celebrated alive as a living dead to succeed a departed king. In that time, all the funeral rites that ought to have been accorded him whenever he dies would be accorded him as part of his coronation. No 3As soon as a man is identified as the chosen replacement to the departed king of Nri by the gods of Igboland, he will be subjected to this ritual of severance with mere mortals as part of his coronation ceremony. No 4) During ritual of severance with mere mortals, the new Eze-Nri will be automatically estranged from his immediate family. No 5)His wife is made by order of the chief priest to commence mourning while he is still alive. No 6) In the same vein, his own children will now have limited access to him since he is now a ‘living dead’. No 7)Soon after he is enthroned, the new Eze-Nri is made to start up a new life by marrying a new wife, who will in turn give birth to the heir-apparent. http://obindigbo.com.ng/2016/01/7-important-things-to-know-about-eze-nri/
