OWELLE ANAYO ROCHAS OKOROCHA...a man on a mission

‘Some men achieve greatness; others have greatness entrusted to them’

Rochas Anayochukwu Okorocha’s antecedents right from conception to birth and existence till date points to the fact that he is a rare specie born for a rare assignment!

To signpost his unique mission on earth, Rochas Okorocha, as if in a hurry to come into the world was given birth to on the way to hospital by his mother late ... at Ogboko in Ideato south local government area of Imo State.

Born into a poor family, life was not a bed of roses rather a story of struggle, hardship and difficulties!

Rochas Okorocha in a bid to survive as a youngster hawked in the streets, yet he persevered and remained committed to making a future out of the seeming hopelessness of the times and seasons he lived as a growing child.

Rochas Okorocha showed early signs of greatness when as a nine (9) year old child he did what most elder ones could not do as he bought a television and at the tender age of 14 he shocked everyone when he bought a bus even when most of his elders and peers were yet to save funds barely enough for feeding!

Certainly, Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s life is divinely crafted and designed to affect his generation in many ways than one.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s business sense and venture increased as he ventured into cement sales still at a very tender age. But it was real estate that made him and strengthened his financial base so strongly.

As a man with a very strong understanding of the relevance and place of education in today’s world, he combined education with business and today, Rochas Okorocha has the following educational qualifications

Master of Law (LLM) University of Jos, Plateau State
[07/02 9:17 am] Ik Ogbonna: Bachelor of Law (LLB) University of Jos, Plateau State

Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Benue State University

Diploma in Law, Security and Conflict Management, University of Jos, Plateau State West African School Certificate – Juladaco Secondary School, Jos, Plateau State.

Primary Education - St. Joseph Primary School, Barkin Ladi, Jos

Having seen poverty and its devastating effects in the lives of men, he made a spiritual contract with his creator in prayers requesting to be blessed so that he could be a blessing to others...

Indeed, that pact with his creator paid off as God has truly blessed Owelle Rochas Okorocha in all dimensions of life with material, financial and spiritual blessings.

Having been so blessed by God, his foray into politics and public life is purely born out of his desire to contribute his quota to the upliftment of the fortunes of our dear motherland and never to enrich himself as is often seen in most political ambitions of most politicians!

Now, his concern, passion and heart desire is to help the poor, the voiceless and the masses who daily struggle to keep body and soul together!

Owelle Rochas Okorocha hates injustice, poverty and laziness. He is indeed a stickler for excellence and is an advocate of hard work as a precursor to living out a dream and achieving ones vision and projections in life.

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha was born on the 22nd of September, in the year of our lord 1962 into a Christian home.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha is a good family man married to his lovely wife Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha and they are blessed with six children besides many adopted ones.

As a result of his love for children, many people do not even believe that he has biological children! He does not only love children, he also loves the sick, feeds the destitute, hugs the infirmed and genuinely wines and dines with the lowly placed without reservations and with true care and love.

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha is a unique Nigerian, a great Philanthropist of no equal measure, teacher and educationist, an orator, an apostle of peace, a detribalized Nigerian, politician, great business mogul whose name is synonymous with success,

As a philanthropist, he is unconditionally committed to alleviating the plight of the less-privileged in the society as a basis for economic emancipation and social justice. His foundation, the Rochas Foundation, provides materials, educational and medical sponsorship for the less privileged.

This commitment to providing education to the poor children saw him establish the Rochas foundation colleges all over the zones of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His passion for education knows no bounds!

The Rochas foundation schools located in Kano, Jos, Ibadan, Owerri and his home town Ogboko provides free, qualitative education to over six thousand children from poor homes! The impact this has made in the lives of thousands of school children is indeed huge as the hope of a brighter future becomes more real to these children who would have been confined to a life of low living as a result of lack of education!

Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s love for the sick lead him to organize the first ever truly party for those living with HIV and AIDS at a time when the stigma for the disease was very high. In the party, Owelle ate and drank with them. To instil in them a sense of worth and acceptance, Owelle Rochas Okorocha made a uniform for HIV positive which he also wore alongside other dignitaries in other not to differentiate and segregate between those living with the disease.

Rochas Okorocha believes in the future and strongly looks at the brighter side of life in spite and despite formidable obstacles and oppositions which comes his way at any given time!

His love for children is unparalleled as he always makes out time to stay with the children and even tells them stories that will motivate and inspire them to aspire for greatness and desire to make impact in life. Wherever and whenever he sees the children, he is always drawn to them with all genuine attention, care and love!

Even in the rain, Rochas Okorocha’s love for the children didn’t allow him abandon the kids in the rain. He dances and enjoys himself with the children all the way! Certainly, this is a rare quality amongst top government functionaries today!

In Nigeria, within the Christian community, the name of Rochas Okorocha will not be forgotten in a hurry! This is due to the role he played in the completion of the Christian ecumenical centre otherwise known as the National Christian Centre in Abuja. Before its completion, the ecumenical centre had become a huge embarrassment and shame to the Christian community as a result of long abandonment due largely to the huge amount of money needed for its completion.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha took up the humungous challenge and rallied the Nigerian Christian community and today, the ecumenical centre is standing in the centre of Abuja courtesy of the resilience and dogged spirit of Rochas Okorocha!

His hunger and passion for peace in Nigeria fired him to establish the national peace forum which had many prominent and eminent Nigerians attending the forums

Owelle Rochas Okorocha is truly blessed with money! To serve Nigeria in another capacity he forayed into politics largely to contribute his quota towards the development of the country.

Rochas Okorocha has a great track of political journey so far in different forms and dimensions. But his political life was not without challenges

He had aspired to become the president of the federal republic of Nigeria on two occasions.

He contested for the office of the president with tremendous impact and was unanimously adopted as the presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2003.

In 2007, Owelle Rochas Okorocha also contested in the Peoples Democratic Party platform for the office of the president, federal republic of Nigeria and emerged runner-up to Late President Yardua!

He was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

He was the former national chairman of youth mobilization in the PDP and operated as a bridge between the old and the young!

In 1999, he contested for the governorship of Imo state during the elections.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha served as a member of the constituent assembly representing his constituency in 1994 and made impressive showing as young as he was with brilliant and sound ideas which were instrumental to the amendment of the Nigerian constitution.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha was a presidential adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo on inter party relations

He was a former member of federal character commission

He had also served as former chairman, Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA)

Former Pro Chancellor as well as Patron, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON)

But today, his tenacity and resilience has paid off as he is the executive governor of Imo State, Nigeria.

Since he became the governor of Imo State, it’s been a new song of unprecedented developmental strides in Imo state. the state has become a reference point of developmental efforts in Nigeria as great leaps and giants strides has become synonymous with the name Imo State under the able leadership of governor Rochas Okorocha.

For the first time in the history of Nigeria free education has been given to school children and students up to tertiary education levels thus shattering the age long held notion of that free education is not possible.

The roll call of evident and people oriented developmental strides of Owelle Rochas Okorocha within a short time in office as governor of Imo State is certainly amazing!

· Free education from primary to university levels

· 27 new general hospitals are currently going on for all the 27 LGA’s in the state

· 305 pre cast storey building primary schools for all the 305 INEC wards in the state are simultaneously being constructed in Imo State

· The Odenigbo Guest House

· Sam Mbakwe Expanded Exco chamber

· Ndubuisi kanu Exco chamber

· Hero’s park

· Commissioner’s Quarters

And many more projects.

The question in Imo State since Owelle Rochas Okorocha took over the saddle of government has been where is he getting the money instead of the usual question of where has he taken our money!

He was conferred with the traditional titles of “Owelle Ndi Igbo” and “Dan Jekan Sokoto” in a unique and unprecedented ceremony by the body of traditional rulers of the Southeast and the North led by the Chairman of the Southeast Forum of Traditional Rulers, Eze (Dr.) Ezo Ukandu, JP and the Late Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido (CFR). He is also the Omorodun of Yoruba land; the Okala of Etche; the Talban Gwagwalada and Uban Talakawa.

He believes that no matter the height he has attained in life, his greatest joy is in identifying with his family, his roots, the poor and less privileged in the society.

Truly, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has a lot in common with Nigeria’s founding fathers such as the late Sarduana of Sokoto when it comes to caring for the poor, chief Obafemi Awolowo when it comes to free education and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe when it comes to personal courage and oratory.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha, surely is a man on a mission to restore the battered image of our dear motherland!
