jay bee: No brainer i tell ya

Bang on point

It will help if students have access to career advisory services at their respective uni's though
There are no such units in Nigerian Universities--atleast none that i've seen before.
Even the Guidance and Counselling units in secondary schools don't help with career choice, all they do is employ reverend sisters to teach you what you already know.

I saw it on Hotnigerianjobs, dunno why the link won't show, but i think they lifted it from Thisday newspaper smiley

It's really helpful article for Nigerian job seekers with all that university degree craze in them. A good number of people seek other job fields because they can't get what they studied, instead of thinking 'maybe i'm not so good at this afterall' smiley

snthesis: actually this thread has been quite useful, i just realized i applied a different model to my approach with her, which failed.

wat i need to do is simple, create an atmosphere of affluence "Effizy" without necessary spending cash- all she apparently needs is an assurance that this dude can "take care of me/maintain my standards"

actually come to think of it,- its quite primodal- our ancestors did d same, the ones with the large farms got better/more wives. a man with one wife then was considered lazy and cudnt attract a "hawt" spouse and mostly like had a small farmyard.
I pity your ministry.

Came across this, and thought it worth sharing.

This recent piece, written by Todd Hirsch, the Calgary-based chief economist of ATB Financial and author of "The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline", will serve our young graduates as they navigate the job market, even in this most difficult time. The message is simple: whatever your hand finds to do, begin from there. I am well aware that the Nigerian terrain is quite different from the Canadian one on which the author based his thesis but the inherent lesson cuts across boundaries as it simply teaches that fresh graduates should be wise. Here is what Todd Hirsch wrote:

Dear Applicant: Thank you for your letter inquiring about positions in our economics department. At this time, we have no openings. However, I will keep your letter on file should an appropriate job become available. At least, that's what I am required to tell you. But here's what I'd really like to say to you - and to every recent economics graduate who sends me the same letter.

First, I know it's lousy for bachelor of arts graduates looking for a job "in their field." Twenty years ago, it was lousy for me too. It's almost always lousy. In a way, it's kind of supposed to be - a small rite of passage to welcome you into the working world. It's sort of like being froshed.

But if I may, I would like to offer some advice.

Don't be too fixated on landing a job "in your field." The truth is, you don't yet have a field. In university, you majored in economics, but that may or may not be your eventual field of professional work. The world is full of possibilities; limiting your search to an economist job is a terribly narrow way to start out.

You chose to study economics, which doesn't necessarily imply that you'll be an economist. Rather, it implies you have an aptitude for problem solving. You're probably good at analyzing data. You can see different sides of an argument. And I'll bet you're excellent at finding solutions to problems. These are essential skills required in hundreds of rewarding (and lucrative) fields of professional employment.

Your ultimate field may actually be in sales for a biotech firm. It may be analyzing crime statistics for the city police. It may even be a rock star (just ask Mick Jagger). The world is full of "fields."

What you're facing is a common problem: BA graduates confuse their major area of study with what they expect to be their eventual careers. It doesn't matter if it's a degree in history, film studies, sociology, or comparative feminist literature.

You've successfully navigated your way through a four-year degree. Congratulations! That is no small accomplishment. But now you're embarking on a totally different program of learning - one that will last the rest of your life. It's called "What am I here for?"

That may sound all spiritual and existential, but don't let it throw you off. It just means that your challenge from here on is to find what you're good at, and keep getting better and better at it.

An apology, by the way, on behalf of society: We are sorry if we led you to believe that attending university would land you a good job. That's not actually true. A polytechnic college will do this - and the job opportunities available right now are fantastic. A good option for you might be to continue post-university studies at a polytechnic.

But your university education, at least at the bachelor of arts level, was never intended to land you a job. It was intended to make you a more complete thinker. It was intended to teach you how to absorb complex information and make reasoned arguments. It was, quite simply, intended to teach you how to learn. Those are skills that you'll use in any field of work.

Open your mind to all sorts of job possibilities. Don't be too proud to start out in the service industry, or where you might get your fingernails dirty. Talk to as many people as you can about their career paths. But never, ever, allow yourself to think you've wasted your time in university if you don't land a job as an economist.

Meanwhile, be encouraged and stay positive. And yes, I will keep your letter on file. But my guess is that when a position in my economics group eventually opens up, you'll no longer be available.

Matthew briggs: I think they always, expect the guys to lead the conversation and ask all the questions. The tide only changes when a girl has a crush on you or finds you intresting. If this is the case, she go ask you question tire. If you both share the same feelings that conversation go sweet die. But aside that they prefer we guys to drive the conversation

By default I hardly chat so if i don'nt find her intresting aswell, and there is nothing important to discuss. I don't bother myself the conversation will be like.

G- Hello
Me-Hi
3days later
G- Hello
Me-Hi
3 months later
G- Hello
Me-Hi
G - Hmmm you have forgotten me abi.
Me - No oh, have you forgetten am one ping away.

Lol but if, I really want to chat. I have it at back of my mind that.

1. Every girl has a button, I just have to find it and press it. When I do she'll be the one asking all the questions.

2. I try to start strong. For example instead of asking "hello how was you day". You could start by starting a coversation with something on her pm or dp. Eg " What's up, @dp looks like you had fun today... what were up to... feed me the details?

3. Never make the conversation boring add a touch of humor when necessary.

4. Don't be a pest, dropping by every single day and second. Keep your distance and time ur chat when u know she'll be free. Let the savour of the last chat linger.

But it still boils down to if she's not into you she's never going to have you time.

Only as much as guys find it difficult to accept they are also part reason smiley

Erm lets see...
He threatened to follow me home if i didn't give him my number. I thought it was a joke...it wasn't.

Then i saw him again two days later and he began following me to work.
I was so mad i threatened to involve the police and he disappeared.

Caracta: Honestly, you need to school some of them. Is it really hard to shut it? huh You ask a girl for her number, she says no, then you start begging for hours, days, months, years! You should read between the lines!
Here's a typical convo

Guy: Can I have your number?

Girl: No

Guy: Why?

Girl: It's my number, I don't want you to have it.

Guy: But there must be a reason. It's just a number, there's nothing wrong if you give it to me.

(Oh Jesus, if it's just a number, then there should be nothing wrong with me not giving it to you).

Girl: Still No. Go away and stop asking.

(Then they go ahead to ask for it everytime they see you, even after you'vemade it clear they'll never have it).

dmcdad: Buh how come this same thing happens to most guys? The thing is, most gila don't know what a convo is. They are just plain ignorants. its not about not wanting to chat for most of em, neither is it about being tired or something. Its just about the fact that they are plain ignorants of how a real and matured convo should go.

At the end of the day, its still at their own detriment in the long run because it surely affects most of em when wanting to write formal English. I've seen someone who wrote an English exam using monosyllables and some useless acronyms.

Tell me, what's the biggy in typing you? They'd rather type yhu. 5n for fine, cum for come, I for hi, and so on... I know how many peeps I use to correct on the kinda words they use in updating their statuses. Not like they wanna imploy a monosyllable buh too much use of the monosyllabic and useless acronyms have taken the places for correct words to fit in. So, it affects a whole lot. And the earlier these peeps realise, the better for em

I know some guys are guilty of all these too, buh you would equally agree its very much common with the female species.
So we are just not into you guys!
Is it so difficult to accept that a girl(s) would rather not chat with you?
Of all my whatsapp contact, i only maintain regular chats with 4 people. Not bacause i find all others boring, but i just don't know you enough to chat like i do with others, or we are both introverts.

Tell me, isn't there atleast one girl on your list who you gist with every minute? You can't expect everybody to be like her geez. The so called 'dumb' chatter is prolly another guy's most lively chat mate.

Caracta: The day I heard my friend died, I was coming from the hospital and a guy started a conversation. I simply told him I wasn't in the mood. He didn't stop o. Even when I was trying to hold back the tears, he kept telling me the story of his life and how he just bought a car. I didn't even know when I held his shirt, looked into his eyes and shouted "Shut up".

Romance › Re: Some Girls Don't Know How To Chat by UjSizzle(f): 10:09am On Nov 23, 2013
dmcdad: My point is most of em are rather nonchalant in their response... Even for some girls that you already have acquaintances with. So its not just about the way they treat new acquaintances or strangers, buh its rather in them.

Seriously, most girls are not trying, lets be sincere with ourselves. If you did peruse through the post I quoted you, you would notice that the sample i gave up there wasn't an interaction buh rather an interview if I may put it that way. Should it be that way? I guess not!

I don't really wanna type alot here cause I already treated all these on the other thread...
Then you already know she doesn't want to chat with you. Do the manly thing and leave her alone.

Some girls chat freely with some people and less freely with others. If you fall in the latter you are most likely to get monosyllabic responses.
Either that or she's just too tired to chat with you at that moment.

So true.
It's the same with phone calls...some people can't call except they have something important to talk about.
Some can't make small talk at all. You either keep the convo going yourself of you both can drift to oblivion.

Caracta: Hold on. I was referring a close friend. We make good conversations and we can chat for hours, but sometimes, after enduring heavy traffic and a stressful day, I don't want to chat or punch my keypads. I explain. He still doesn't stop. I beg. He continues. And I hate ignoring someone, what would you have me do?

Note that I didn't say this happens all the time.

As for shorthand typing, I hate it passionately.
You're too nice and patient. If i explain all that, i just stop responding.
