You don vex finish? If not abeg tear you shirt and bra and lemme grab my camera ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() this is not a competition neither is it a popularity contest. Your suggestion is flawed cos writers whose work is finished will be disadvantaged and those whose work is running will be favored. Remember those whose work have not finished asked for special permission. This is to honor people. Having said that, tear you cloth, I wan see things
Sometimes you talk like you're high on something ![]() |

Mickey7: u'd rada I typed full words?I'd rather you didn't use shorthands so often, and especially when they aren't necessary. It takes twice as long to read your posts. |

fpeter: YOU SHOULDN'T BE ANCHORING SUCH A DEBATE ESPECIALLY SINCE YOUR GRAMMAR ISHe brought up the idea of a debate as much for his sake as yours. Instead of calling him out for his 'grammar', how about applauding his very brilliant idea and learning a thing or two from the performance of others? He doesn't need to be a grammarian to anchor this event, all he need be is someone who acknowledges his flaws and is ready to do better. |
olalerey: As in wat i mean is that d judges shuld make a comment on al d essays so dat sum contestant won't be feelin that their essays are neglfctd or wat do u feel? nd again they also need to be correctdI would have sworn i posted an appraisal of your essay, until i gave it a second glance. My apologies. I found your essay too 'stark'. You didn't have much to say on the subject matter, and the few things you pointed out weren't well developed. Take more time for an intensive study of your subject. You also need to learn to use paragraphs to begin new points. Put a 'space' after full stops and commas, before writing another word. Take time to proof read your work before posting, so you can correct typos. E.g 'Producing' was spelt 'Produacing'. When you write the name of an association, it's important you tell us the meaning. For instance, imagine a foreigner was reading your essay, how would he know what ASUU meant? Like i told your fellow debaters, if you must quote, quote right. You don't want to distort another man's words, do you? The saying goes, 'An idle MIND is the devil's workshop'. There's also nothing like 'Manskill power, it's 'Manpower'. While you told us why strike wasn't the better option, you failed to educate us on what will work. A proper Persuasive essay demands that for every argument you fault, you should give an alternative. It also won't hurt to give analogies like Alicia Keys did, and use metaphors ![]() Finally, you failed to properly conclude your essay. A conclusion should summarise all your points(remember, repetition for emphasis). **I'll advise you read the appraisals of your fellow contestants too, learn a thing or two ![]() |
Over a hundred pages ![]() Ihe, I got the mail. Thanks ![]() |
My bane!!! Same reason ishilove wanted to chase me out of Literature section when I started writing . Thought I've had it sorted out. Thanks all for your honest critique and appraisal.
lol you're almost there ![]() |
Infoscope Tosdam and Des•chykos Infoscope, your work was impressive, but like Tosdam, you made the same mistake with abbreviations. Whenever you want to abbreviate names of associations of anything for that matter, you must first give the name in full, then put the abbreviation in bracket. After this, you can proceed to use them in the body of your work (take note of Des•chyko's essay). Tosdam, your opening paragraph was totally flawed. The second sentence completely contradicted your position on the topic, and you wrote the said topic all wrong. Watch it. You must know your topic or you'll only succeed in leaving everyone confused. Also learn the use of capital letters. In your conclusion, your use of 'meaningful Nigerians' should have been 'well meaning Nigerians'. Find out the meaning of both words. Tosdam and Des•chykos, you both need to watch your tenses. You shifted from present to past all too often and didn't seem to know how and where to use the singular and plural of words. Also take note of paragraphing...very important. Mikebis Well done for putting yourself out this way, it's admirable. Your essay was completely horrible(that's being nice), but like i said, i admire your confidence in participating. You had numerous problems ranging from spellings, to tenses, and syntax. I advise you read more and practise writing. You can start with opening a diary here on NL. Alicia Keys You performed remarkably well. Your content, organisation were on point. You highlighted individual points, and developed each of them before nailing it with examples...iLike!! However, you should be careful with your tenses. Your choice of words which is pronounced the same way, eg 'seizelessly' (which isn't a word) should have been 'ceaselessly'. Avoid also adding '.....i quote....' we can see the quotation marks there, so adding it too is useless. Also, while quoting, endeavour to do it right eg "Faith without works is dead". All in all, good job everyone who participated. Remember learning is a continuous process, and this is only one phase. You can only get better than this ![]() |
Santolly4Jesus I loved your essay. Your use of metaphors was impressive, but you should watch the use of caps to begin words in a sentence especially when they don't necessarily need to be stressed or highlighted. Next time use inverted commas or write in italics. The body of your work however was somewhat scanty. You had few points, and i feel with more research you could have done better. Good attempt all the same. Illuminatus You also impressed me. I don't have much to say except WATCH THOSE PARAGRAPHS. Elliontwiz1 OMA4U Oluwatola5 Elliotwiz avoid the excessive use of contractions(they've, aren't, ain't etc). The body of your essays were lacking because you somehow found it of more importance to turn your work to a history/religious(OMA4U) class, and then you forgot the importance of highlighting your points and developing each of them before solidifying your stance with examples relating to each individual point. OMA4U, when next you want to introduce the God factor into your essay, let it enter naturally in each point and use it to your own advantage. It's better than starting off totally with it, thereby boring or putting off those who don't subscribe to your Godly views. Oluwatola5, learn the meaning, use, and spelling of words before applying them. Don_Salvy The body of your work left a lot to be desired. It was literally 'empty' to say the least. You also need to avoid excessive use of contractions. However, your examples were really good and carried across the message. Davo93 and Mazi_Omenuko You two deserve a standing ovation. I found your essays very educative and on point. You did an intensive research on your subject, and went further to familiarise yourself with some of your opponents argument which you debunked flawlessly...beautiful! Davo, you however need to watch those spellings and paragraphs. Mazi_Omenuko, watch those tenses. |
I want to commend the effort of everyone who took part in this debate. I'll advise all the participants to go through the appraisal of everyone's work, you might learn a thing or two from them. Danjuma827 and Olalerey Danjuma,I liked the use of examples in buttressing your point, and references you made to philosophic quotes. However, i must say that you two didn't take time to research on your topic. One rule of essay writing is to know your subject matter. I mean 'intensive research', and looking at your work, it seems you relied mostly on your own ideas which left a lot to be desired in the body of your essay. You need to write based on facts, and we need those facts to be cited. These will help in convincing your readers. Remember you want to persuade them, and leaning on your own viewpoints alone won't do that. You two had the same problems with your sentence construction. Begin new points in a fresh paragraph and leave a 'space' after commas and full stops. Seyi_KP The content of your essay and use of paragraph was fair enough, but you can do better. You had a lot of problem with punctuations. You began sentences with lowercase alphabets. There were unnecessary use of words in your essay, with some out of context, and your spelling leaves a lot to be desired. If you must quote someone, you are expected to do it right. The saying goes, "An Idle Mind Is The Devil's Workshop". Also your opening line was really bogus and quite unnecessary, and your conclusion....there aren't too many words to describe it. Read Read Read more often, and take time to digest everything concerning whatever material you're reading. |

tomzman: Come on Uju, do you think I don't know this. Besides, who goes for an exam without reading? I only wanted anyone with experience to share with us. Have you tried eating banana before an exam and did it make you more mentally alert? Not before an exam, but i've noticed it does that. Maybe you can test it. |
tomzman: I love banana so much. But how true is the 'eating banana before exam' part? Well, I would try it when next I'm going for an exam. It's supposed to make you mentally alert and smarter in learning and not supply answers to exam questions. You brain cannot access information you did not put in it. |
Very informative ![]() |
I don't believe this story is real, but there are still lessons to be learned. Women be careful. No one should be trusted. |
