chopnaira: Eastern Cape protest turns violent with stabbing, cars torched over 'Nigerian King' coronation
Chaos erupted in KuGompo City, in the Eastern Cape, on Monday as cars were set ablaze and property vandalised after a man was allegedly stabbed during a protest against the reported coronation of a Nigerian national as king.
The situation is so serious that fire services have been dispatched to the scene, while police are using teargas to disperse the crowd.
The protest, which started peacefully, comes after videos and images of Chief Solomon Ogbonna Eziko being crowned ‘Igwe Ndigbo’ in the city, formerly East London, went viral.
Several groups, including ActionSA, the Patriotic Alliance, civic movement March and March, and several traditional leaders, have joined the demonstration, condemning the ceremony as unlawful.
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana confirmed that police had responded to the scene.
"The protest began as a planned peaceful demonstration by various traditional leaders over the alleged coronation of an Igbo king," she said.
"Violence broke out when some participants moved away from the city hall, where a petition was being handed over.
"Twelve vehicles have been damaged, and several buildings have been torched.
"Emergency services, including the fire department, remain on the scene, along with the Public Order Policing Unit.
"This is an active scene, and updates information will be shared in due course."
A man was allegedly stabbed in the back by a foreign national and taken to the hospital.
Gantana said the man was not part of the march.
"The stabbed person is not linked to the march," she said.
March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, however, said on Facebook that it was one of her members who had been stabbed.
She said the member was also knocked down by a car.
ActionSA Eastern Cape leader Athol Trollip previously told IOL there was no constitutional provision for any foreigner, legal or illegal, to coronate themselves in the Eastern Cape.
"We do not support that," he said.
"We support the existing local kings in the Eastern Cape, of which we have five, and no Nigerian kings.”
PA spokesperson Steve Motale said: "We condemn that fake coronation.
"We are happy that even the Nigeria High Commissioner in SA has also condemned it."
The Royal House of AbaThembu, in a statement to IOL, previously denied reports on social media that King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo welcomed and granted royalty to the Nigerian national.
He said he was not involved.
AbaThembu royal ambassador and senior royal advisor Adv Matthew Mpahlwa said the claims come from “sick and depraved minds".
"The Royal House of AbaThembu wishes to distance itself from the trending social media posts and pictures purporting to portray King Dalindyebo as welcoming and officially granting royalty to a particular Nigerian national," Mpahlwa said at the time.

, to say the least But, why do the police keep using rubber bullets. Dint they have tear gas? Also, they seem to be more tolerant to the white people than fellow Africans. In as much as I am not supporting what they tagged violation of their traditional norms, I have never seen them protesting against the excesses of the white people that hitherto control their Commonwealth proceeds of the apartheid dispossession of their land. Same policy that relegated their human capital. Poverty still looks in a country of plenty and knowledge among the indigents is still at the lowest ebb.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday visited the Angwan Rukuba community following recent terrorist attacks that left residents shaken and properties damaged.
The governor arrived in an armored tank as security concerns remain high in the area.
See photos below;
Why is Seun's mods not posting the major criticisms the plateau attack has brought against this government?
Now they want to make satiriise the the governor as if security is not in the exclusive legislative list if th Nigerian constitution.
Did you guys notice that hard bites against Tinub's government is rapidly disappearing from this platform.
Where is Riley Moore's viral video that even a Hispanic guy was the person that showed it to me, widely circulating and drawing international attention. He called out Mr president and exposed his ineptitude that is worsening this genocide.
The previous day two posts of Igbo guys' 'drug peddling' made front page back to back, to prove that they are not perturbed by the previous complaints by nairalanders.
SarcasticWords: You are right Pastor Chris. In fact, the apostles and first century christians should have fought and killed The Pharisees, Sadducees and romans that persecuted them.
They should have fought for their existence. I wonder why they didnt. 🤔
But anyway, as a man of God that you are, you have said exactly what Jesus would say.
By the way, Pastor Chris, are you aware that in israel (the country you are deeply in support of) the so called ''jews'' there spit on christians like you, and urinate on the walls of churches because they view christians like you as idolatrous pagans?
That alone is a very good reason why Christians today should fully support Israel.
Learn logical reasoning in arguments. Is the Jewish derisive attitude against Christianity an existential threat?
ogelekpomgam: My dear, cars are nothing over here. Na for naija wey people dey worship cars. A shop attendant here can be using very good range rover or sports car..not a big deal.
Courtesy of credit card system. Has its own disadvantages. But it's fine.
Mods don vex because we complained the other day about stale video. Available statistics shows that crimes of similar magnitude are being committed daily by Nigerians from other regions.
@Seun I charge you to balance this display of hate or I will push your excesses to the authorities. You guys have severally banned my previous monikers over similar complaints.
Look behind your privileged curtains and learn who I am.
Were you there, this is for us that went to government school, not for those that went to private school, with Air condition.
I didn't experience this in my SSS days as I'm a science student, we are not much, sometimes, we might even be in either physics or chemistry lab for a whole month, thats where we would recieve all our lectures..
But you see when I was in junior class, ah, with all my over writing names and design, thats when you will see that they have stolen your desk or chair and use blade to scrape your name or design off and put another design on it, you will be doing free tour for a whole week, thats if you even see it self.
Sometimes you will have to resume school early, so that you can have access to all classes to see if you can see either your stolen desk or chair 😆 🤣 😂
Glimpsetv: A Nigerian woman has cried out online after alleging that she was assaulted by a tenant while trying to collect money.
In the video, the visibly distressed woman showed her face, pointing to her eye as she explained what happened. According to her, the tenant became aggressive and hit her during the encounter. She also claimed that the individual boasted that nothing could be done about his actions.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions online, with many questioning what could have led to such a confrontation. Others also expressed concern over how quickly personal disputes now make their way onto social media.
Watch the video and share your thoughts in the comments.
I have severally raised concerns about this baseless vilification shrouded in ethnic hate of some sort. I am not in Nigeria, but I will tell you that crimes supposedly committed by igbos feature more prominently on this platform than other nationalities, whatever be the motive.
Even when people confirmed that the present video is stale, you they are apparently remained hesitant in taking it down.
I have charged Seun to look into this before it will become a national issue.
insidelife22: Sentiments aside, do you think Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win Next year's presidential election.?
This is the most stupid question I have ever seen in this forum. Do you guys have selective amnesia like they have attributed to the generality of Nigerians?
From his antecedents spamming almost his lifetime, what do you think he will do to secure victory.
Abeg, make una use uma time do better thing. Front page ko.
A soldier was seen sl@pping an officer during a heated argument, sparking mixed reactions online. Why is the military so superior to the police in Nigeria. This is not the case in saner climes. The police is never lower than the military in Europe or america. They are at par.

fergie001: Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs (State) and widow of the revered Ikenba, Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Bianca, accompanied Nigeria's first family (President Tinubu and his lovely wife, Remi) to a State Visit at Windsor and Downing Street in the UK.
She made a post on X, along with some photos much to the chagrin of some of her followers who didn't hold back my pouring invectives, however, this time she fired back.

RandDigital: Nigerian pastor John Anosike has accused Gayton McKenzie of xenophobia and intimidation after the Minister and Patriotic Alliance leader voiced his disapproval of the former’s bid on Cape Town’s Good Hope Centre.
Anosike, who heads up a church in Maitland, has also responded to critics, claiming his alleged acquisition is “lawful, transparent and fully documented”.
Despite bragging about owning the rights, the City of Cape Town has yet to confirm its successful bid. An auditing process is currently underway.
MINISTER MACKENZIE'S OBJECTION
During a Facebook Live this week, Gayton McKenzie claimed that the Patriotic Alliance approached the management of the Good Hope Centre to host the launch of the Joslin Smith Foundation. He claims their request was rejected.
The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture voiced his disapproval that the Democratic Alliance-led City of Cape Town had allowed Nigerian Pastor John Anosike to bid on the historic landmark.
He said: “Over our dead bodies, here will be no Nigerian church. We are not taking arts and culture spaces and giving them to Nigerians. That will not happen.
“If that Nigerian pastor knows what is good for him, he must keep that money. My advice to him is to take your money and invest in Nigeria. We will never give you peace. We will fight in the highest court. You will never take that velodrome and have Nigerians there having churches. That place will become a place of drugs.
“If the DA thinks…we’re not saying anything, but we’re watching this move. The Good Hope Centre will not be sold to a Nigerian”.
PASTOR ANOSIKE'S RESPONSE
In a lengthy statement, John Anosike responded to the backlash over his bid for the Good Hope Centre.
The Nigerian pastor named Gayton McKenzie, whose strong opposition has garnered attention.
Anosike said of the minister: “Statements of this nature raise serious concerns about xenophobic undertones, political intimidation, and the discouragement of lawful investment by foreign residents of South Africa.
“When political leaders publicly threaten or attempt to obstruct lawful property transactions that have been conducted within the legal framework of the country, it sends a troubling signal to potential investors and entrepreneurs.”
In other Facebook posts, he also sent a “warning” to his xenophobic critics by quoting a bible verse that read: “Be careful how you treat foreigners in your country. For your treatment of them attracts spiritual consequences over the nation”.
Another read: “A nation that oppresses immigrants invites divine judgment because injustice provokes God’s wrath.”
Let them also ask the white people who own a bulk of property in that location to leave. Yeye people. Africa has a problem
Memphis357: An announcement on Chuck Norris’ Instagram page revealed the action movie legend died yesterday morning in Hawaii. Just last week, Norris posted a video to social media, below, showing him beating up an opponent.
"I don’t age. I level up," he said, celebrating his 86th birthday. "Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young. I’m grateful for another year, good health and the chance to keep doing what I love. Thank you all for being the best fans in the world. Your support through the years has meant more to me than you’ll ever know."
Lovelink1991: Aremu Afolayan kneel to ask for forgiveness from Nigerians over his comment about the securities situation of this country, that the curses are too much for him. He has vow never to play politics again.
The day I foolishly argued against Christian genocide against the views of 2 Nigerian students in the presence of an American Professor, I didn't have any sleep in the night. The flogging by my conscience was some kind of suffering. It took just a week to start retracting my statements, first from the Professor. I had to even appologise to the two students. Let alone, doing this before the whole country.
People will not understand. Anyone that has conscience can never be a member of APC. I omitted 'active' cos some are there just symbolically. I have no issues with that. But for you to keep lying against the future of 300 million people just like they did during Buhari which was the worst in this, I will pity the you. The seed you are planting to posterity may haunt you when you least expect it.
For Daniel Bwala, the global dent he attracted to himself is just a wam up by Mr Karma. Trust me, he he will resign and ask Nigerians to forgive him. Shebi Buhari did before his demise. Let us learn some lessons.
The King and Queen have arrived, waiting for the President and First Lady.
The 41 gun salutes have started.
The two 2002 Bentley State Limousines brought the guests. Prince William and President Tinubu were in one car and Princess Catherine and Mrs Tinubu were in the other.
The Household Calvary rendered the royal salute (Nigeria We Hail Thee).
The carriage is here. The procession is about to start.
The general officer commanding the Household Division had to help the President and the King down the stairs.
The members of the Nigerian delegation are being shown their carriages.
They are using closed carriages (Gowon, Shagari and Babangida used open top carriages).
The foot guards are waiting in the courtyard of Windsor Castle.
As always happens, Nigerians have organised and gone to line the route.
🤣 I remember that thread in which some Nairalanders were complaining because they played the Star Spangled Banner before Arise O Compatriots. They said it was a disgrace.
The anthem of the guest is always played before the anthem of the host.
The guards are playing Nigeria We Hail Thee before God Save The King.
I posted a video of a sniper on the roof of a building along the route of the royal procession, but the bot banned me.
Nice one. President of Eswatini or Togo will get same ceremony.
mynd1: See them above ☝️, awon United States and Israel supporters. The two most useless countries in the world currently. Both of them are children killers... mtcheew
I was a stuanch supporter of Israel untill that strike that killed those Iranian school girls. I wept when the journalist brought out a drawing book from one of the girls' back pack and flipped open her classwork for the day. I visualized my own daughter and wept aloud.
If I could pull down my columns in the dailies, if I could retract my pro Israeli- American rethorics and take back my contrary advocacies deleted from various media because of my petitions begging to be allowed to live, work and become a Yank. If I could alter my deep seated sentiments borne out of a desire to raise my descendants outside a country plundered by various shades of graft. If I could muster the strength to look Trump in the face and ask him some questions, if I could...
SixSeven: Name that existed before he even started acting. I'm disappointed in this unnecessary information he is throwing out there. They went to school. There is nothing wrong in what WAP did in registering the brand. Pa James has never come out to complain about his character, he acts movies but not with the Pa James character. Akpan and Oduma do skits but not as Akpan and Oduma outside WAP, so what is this complaint all about? I feel disgusted seeing this.
Nigerians failed to learn plagiarism, that's why they copy and use people's materials in the name of blogs and videos.
They forge certificates, that's why the electoral act wants to remove forgery as an election issue.
They take people's identity, that's why someone could use Donald Duke's picture as his own.
Now they want to take someone else's work. Those are all different forms of THEFT, the action or crime of stealing.
Pa James had severally used Pajames outside WAP etc.
It's pathetic but there is a way around it. What I see a little bit of ignorance and others issues he is not able to lay bare.
He can cleverly use similar names without infringing the registered Papa Ajasco. This will have same profit potential as the registered brand.
People have done thing in advanced countries and even in Nigeria.

A former lecturer of Covenant University, who also has a PhD, has captured people's attention after disclosing the amount he was paid as salary despite his degree and qualifications.
The brilliant individual backed up his claim with a photo, which serves as evidence of the amount he was paid as salary and the specific year
Former Covenant University displays his payslip His statement shows that he currently does not work with the institution, as he referred to the school in the past tense.
@Engrbimmy wrote on his social media page: "I looked at my payslip (with Ph.D) from when I was a Lecturer at Covenant University, and I started crying."
By revealing the amount he was paid in the viral post, many on social media found his statement hard to believe. An individual, @MrPharm_, asked what year the lecturer taught at Covenant University or the year he was paid the said amount he mentioned. To prove his statement is true, @Engrbimmy replied with proof from his PayPal.
A statement to further prove that he received the amount he mentioned as salary in January 2024.
