Artistes thrive on popularity. How famous you are as an artiste is the ultimate test of your acceptability. This underscores why artistes strive to acquire the best PRs to manage their public image.

Other than the usual, but now outdated selling of albums, how popular a musician is, is best estimated by views on YouTube, number of times his songs are streamed and total likes on Social Media accounts. Our focus shall be on the social media accounts and for this purpose, each artiste’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts were assessed.

Among Nigerian artistes, Davido sits comfortably as the most popular, leaving Wizkid in second position with an almost 8 million total followership difference. Tiwa Savage, amassing a total of 15.4 million followers, usurps her boss, Don Jazzy, to claim third position. She also ranks as the most popular Nigerian female musician.

Legends have it that Marlians don’t do Facebook but their 579k Twitter page is a far cry from Davido’s whose Twitter page is the most followed in Nigeria. Other than Twitter, Davido is also the most followed on both Facebook and Instagram
