Health / Re: Health Workers Begin Indefinite Nationwide Strike by Unassuming: 4:37pm On May 08, 2012
Sometimes, it's better to allow market forces decides things! embarking on indefinite strike within 24 hours notice isn't the way a professional body should behave. Agree union must always continue to ask for better working conditions for its memebers, but it's an eternal struggle. We all saw how BA union votes within themselves and gives notice of up to 2 weeks before a strike is started. If Lagos state laws does not allow strike in practice, the doctors union should use their money to lobby thru the right body, or help sporsor candidiates who'd better their lots when in office,or apply to work else where and naturally dearth of doctor supply would force the govt to rethink their stand but These things takes time. Patience and conserted efforts remains a virtue yet to be shown by most Nigerian professional bodies.

Besides, we know our govts officials all rigged themselves into power, striking indefinitely at short notices, knowing they're not accountable to the voters makes no sense. If the reverse were the case, of course these govt officials knows they'd lose the next elections and would swiftly apply reasonable solutions. In the end, the common man suffers needlessly for nothing. I also work in Lagos state and i can tell you that the new tax regime is effective per last April and our salary sheets are already reflecting negative tax remission.

Lagos union of doctors should operate like professionals...use the apparatus of democracy to obtain their needs. apply your union war chest the rightway....lobby lobby lobby! All said, i think the state govt reaction isn't disproportionate. Action and reaction equal and opposite. If the pace of change isn't fast enough for you, go work elsewhere, strikes in Nigeria only hurts the common man never the govt. But if Doctors wants to declare a war against the people, they should come out boldly and say so. no need to hide under some mis-guided muscle flexing contest with their employer.
Travel / Re: British Airways Admits Tax Evasion In Nigeria by Unassuming: 5:12pm On Apr 25, 2012
Instead of jumbing into the fray...the first question is, if PFS is implimented who would bare the burden, the airline or the nigeria traveller? Answer, the nigerian traveller.
Question 2, has the airline being collecting the this tax and holding back on it? answser no?
Can you evade tax that is not yet built into law? answer no.
IF the PFS comes into effect, what impact will it have on travel fare. answer= more fare increment.

So people, go figure, what's all this noise about. What sinister action of govt is all this public hearing covering

This inquiry has nothing to do with the poor masses....the house members only want to reduce business and first class cabin fare so they can fly more and waste our collective revenue. I thought Yaradu started something with travel restrictions and review for govt pple. why is it suddenly swept under the carpet?
Family / Re: My Story, Women And Men, Read And Learn From It. by Unassuming: 11:13am On Apr 18, 2012
Now, I can't advice OP. But if I were to b d victim what would I do?

I, homerac7, would call for dissolution of d marriage. We settle, part company and let everybody go and live his/her life. The damage done here is very terrible and d wound so deep that it will always be an open sore till the aggrieved dies. So why live in d shame and pain just because ur family wants it so? I hav right to my life and living it joyfully. Also is my inalienable right to find for myself peace, security and sanity. Under d present situation, none of these can be guaranteed, so I'm not bound by any reason, logic, sentiment or tradition to "endure", "compromise", "understand", "exercise patience", "leave it to god/God", or whatsoever. The marriage contract has simply changed to my great disfavour and I have to react to d present reality which is terminate it and limit damages.

Every life is sacred and entitled to freedom, dignity and honour. If any of these is absent, no law, be it above or below, prevents the victim to discard whichever arrangement has placed such yoke, neither is any measure taken to make correction excessive.

This is what I, homerac7, would do.

I agree absolutely with the homerac7- There's no basis whatsoever, to remain in this marriage. However, i regconise how difficult men like this pig of man would react if asked to negotiate a handsome financial settlement for you, seeing that all rules of engagement has been broken by his premediated actions. Never-the-less, you should leave that marriage. There's no way anyone can ever forgive a grieviuos injury of this kind if matters remains or progress as they are.

Draw on your reserve, move out of the marriage. who knows your real husband may still be out there. As for this man and many that would behave as he....may they never find peace nor happiness, either in this life or next!

Family / Re: He Said He 'touched' Her..&for Me That Has Changed A Lot Of Things! by Unassuming: 2:15pm On Apr 05, 2012
My good Friend, Looking at your post and question...it's obvious you're a man of reason. A fact that both your wife and friend has taken advantage of. However, i see that there's more to the matter than you're willing to let out. Your main concern is your wife being 'touched'. Paying your house rate first before a non life threatening surgery won't cause a problem if all is well in the first place. There has been a long simmering problem you're refusing to acknowledge. Beacuse of this simmering problem, your wife has lost respect for you.

If you're still in denial, ask your wife first what aspect of you that depresses her the most...this could be a starting point before....you ask her what actually transpired or is still happening between her and your so-called friend.

Whether you understand and forgive or flare up is entirelly in your hands...somehow i have no fear that you'd come to the right descision.

Believe me, i can imagine your pain....ignorance is a bliss they say, but i think some of us can handle the truth. Be courageous and fellow your judgement.

Family / Re: Robbers Plan To Visit Our Street: Wrote A Letter by Unassuming: 1:47pm On Mar 16, 2012
Another option would be to pay a visit to OPC headoffices - They love challenges like this. I'd rather invest the required 200k on tending my grounds than surrender to this cheap blackmail. Should you consider this option, the key is to disguise your security intents as much as possible knowing that an insider is at work. I have had an experience in kano like this...we opted to meet them fire for fire...heads rolled. But all residents were in tact...i wept when i had to leave my street in kano for Lagos! A determined spirit under good leadership can surmount any threat no matter how deadly. Your residents should rise against this present and clear danger. Do not leave your grounds to those misfits.

Politics / Re: A Response To Funke Aboyade's Defence Of Sanusi's N100 Million Donation by Unassuming: 10:14am On Mar 14, 2012
dancewith: The CBN continues to perform its corporate social responsibility functions by promoting knowledge through
seminars, workshops, etc, which were of strategic national interest as well as providing financial assistance
to organisations/activities. These include:
• The Nigerian Economic Society (NES);
• The Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA;
• Christ the Good Shepherd Academy of Science Programme on “Train Indigent Children and Dropouts”;
• Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) hosting of the African Regional Meeting of the International
Federation of Journalists;
• Women in Banking, Finance and Investment in Nigeria, hosting of its 2007 National Conference;
• The Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria Annual Assembly;
• The Clement Isong Foundation; and
• The Niger Delta University Endowment Fund.

See more here ===> http://www.cenbank.org/CBNCommunity/Community.asp

Additionally the CBN has provided hundreds of millions of naira in grants to support its Capacity Building Programmes as follows:

• Nigerian Universities Capacity Building Programmes
• Other Capacity Building Programmes
• Collaborative research with agencies
• Development Finance agencies
• National Assembly
• Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
• Investment and Securities Tribunal (IST)
• Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC)
• Annual Seminar for Finance Correspondents and Business Editors
• Professional Institutions

Why then can the said N100million donation to Kano be wrong if donations to the above programs are fine and legal. I think common sense trumps legalese here.

I find your argument irresponsible at best. If you have any intelligence at all, you must know that these cases are different. CBN is not legally permitted to be making charitable donations. It is not their statutory function. There are other agencies of government that is designed to do this. Even funding of private organisations as they have been doing is wrong and illegal. the Textile loan intervention ought to be handled by the Federal Ministry of Finance or disbursed to the commercial banks. The same with the aviation intervention funds. Sanusi is commercializing CBN and you must understand (that is if you are smart enough to do so) that public bodies are not best placed to make donations. CSR is usually for private and commercial bodies. The Govt can make donations through executive pronouncements but certainly not through a body like a country's central bank.

Justifying this shows how shallow we are. This is the same reason we had to get justice on the Ibori case outside the shores of Nigeria. People like you would have carried placards justifying why Ibori is not a thief.

Well Ndu Chuks, what say you...this guy doesn't look or sound like a failing 1st year law student to me. Please go legalese or something, lets see if your first counter has any grain.
Politics / Re: Behold, Nigeria's New Police Uniform - See Pix by Unassuming: 9:40am On Mar 14, 2012
musiwa,,.:
he looks good in the uniform, but i think a military type of boot is better with that uniform.

But I think the new police college in ilorin should be a police university. With a work force of 300,000 . they are more than the army. The army has a university, they too should. It will give the police a good moral and help them perform. If I was president, that is what i will have done. there are many department in law enforcement. there is Korean National Police University

Police university offers degree in course like just to name a few , including science related courses.

Dept. of Police Administration
The goals of the Department:
1. To cultivate leaders of police administration.
2. To study the law system of policing and public security.

Dept. of Criminal Investigation
To train students to be specialized in scientific methods and techniques of criminal investigation and to enhance efficiency in criminal investigation.

Dept. of Forensic Science
To train students to be specialized in forensic science, to be familiar with relevant theory and research and to develop new forensic skills.

Dept. of Public Security
To train students to be specialized in national security law enforcement and social security protection.

Dept. of Crime Prevention & Correction
To train students to be specialized in crime prevention, corrections, prison administration as well as crime prevention theory and research.

Dept. of Fire Science
To train students to be specialized in fire technology and fire science.

Dept. of Traffic Science
To train students to be specialized in traffic administration and traffic law enforcement as well as traffic safety theory and research.

Dept. of Information Management
To train students to be specialized in police information system and technology.

Dept. of Foreign Affairs Police
To train students to be specialized in management of cases involving alien tourists and residents in Taiwan.

Dept. of Border Police
To train police officers who will maintain border security and also be in charge of immigrant and non-immigrant control upon departure from and entry to Taiwan.

Dept. of Administrative Management
To train students in professional knowledge, such as police administration as well as research ability to elevate the academic standards and operational effectiveness in police administraion.

Dept. of Maritime Police
To train law enforcement officers who will maintain maritime safery, strike on crime at sea, protect oceanic ecology and secure the rights of our fishermen.

Dept. of Law
To promote advanced studies on police legal aspects and jurisprudence; to protect human rights and maintain public order.

Well said, also given the level of decadence of Nigerian police. I think the new boss should focus on result based re-orientation of the police before outward changes like uniform. otherwise, it's just a re-cladding of old rotten wine.
