Autos13 Basic Driving Ethics Nigerian Drivers Don't Practice.. by unclemaths(op):
Driving ethics are standards of courtesy while operating a vehicle. An example of driving ethics is avoiding cursing at people if they make an error while driving. However, some Nigerians will even curse you for their own error.
I’ve always got several pet peeves while driving but hope I am not alone in this.
So I decided to come up with these 13 driving ethics some Nigerian drivers won’t practice even if you use a sledge hammer.

High beam headlight
This action blinds the drivers of oncoming vehicles, making it difficult for them to follow the road safely. We even use the high beam on untarred roads. Offending drivers still don’t budge even if you flash at them a hundred times.

I learnt this almost the hard way on a dual carriageway.. Thank God I only got a warning. But a friend wasn’t that lucky as she got a $350 ticket (i.e N60,000 then… N180,000 now). After paying such amount, you will feel like plucking out those headlights.

Tailgating vehicles that have siren
When in traffic, drivers begin to warm up as soon as a convoy of cars starts to approach with siren. Every one struggles to join the convoy but the day you will jam army motor from behind!.. straight to barracks. I hope that law against wailing of siren comes back fully implemented.

Over speeding
You won’t believe we have speed limits in Nigeria. Only in the books sha, implementation is zero. The maximum speed limit in Nigeria is 100 kilometres per hour. With that kinda speed limit, I will just sleep off behind the wheels.

Zebra crossing
This Zebra crossing cracks me up with that trending joke.. “You be Zebra?”. But on a serious note, it seems several people don’t know the meaning of those lines. I remember a policeman blaming me because a Keke Napep didn’t slowdown while I was already on the line.

These 4 scenarios usually occur at zebra crossings.

-If you dare cross when a car is coming.. Sorry is your case.
-Some good drivers who manage to slowdown for people to cross will testify that the cars behind them will honk the hell out of their horn or even overtake them.. Na wah o.
-Some will even hit you from behind.
-In several cases sef, the pedestrian you’ve stopped for don’t know their right. They will just be looking at you as if you are not okay for stopping in the middle of the road.

Road sharing
So much intimidation on our roads. BRT will bully cars, cars will bully Okada, Okadas will bully pedestrians. Who will the pedestrians bully? Let us learn to share the road with love. Are you among those drivers who use their side mirror to deliberately hit pedestrians that walk too close to the road? Just show some love.

Keep to your lane
Some greedy drivers cruise in the middle of the road preventing other cars from overtaking. The saddest thing is, they know how to enter their lane when they want to overtake a slower vehicle that is in front of them. Government should line all our roads as well because that could be a valid excuse.

Excessive honking of horn
We can press our horn for the entire world.. haba. From my research, Over 90% of the things we horn pon pon!! for are not relevant. All we need is just a little patience.

Someone that is traveling on Benin – Warri express will be pressing horn for a car that wants to cross the express 150 metres away. How do you expect the driver to hear? What happened to your flash lights? People who live on major roads should have more to say about this. Also, some of us just place our hands on the horn like it’s a hand-rest. Just a tap will do.

Changing lanes and turning without use of signals
Trafficators are not meant to beautify our cars. Let’s use them. Stop surprising other road users with abrupt turns.

Seat belts
We have embraced this not for our safety, but for police not to chop our money. Some seat belts are not even working especially in those commercial vehicles. Don’t forget to use your seat even if you are in the rear seat.

Traffic light
The yellow light means get ready to stop and not go sharp! sharp!!.. If you see a rear ended (hit from behind) car at a traffic light, this is probably the cause.

Double parking
This is a major cause of traffic congestion. Some roads are obviously too narrow for cars to park on both sides. Some drivers will even park at intersections leaving little or no space for cars to makes turns.

Slowly passing another vehicle/Not accelerating when passing another vehicle
In several countries, it is a traffic offense to be cruising side by side with a car you are meant to overtake. The driver on the fast lane will most likely get a police ticket.

Refusing to yield right-of-way to other vehicles

Everyone likes to claim “nah me get road”. It is bad to the extent that most slow drivers will speed up when you are overtaking them.

I am sure I have not said it all. Add yours.

Let us bring some sanity to our roads. Kindly like and share

PoliticsSSANU STRIKE: FG Assures Full Implementation Of 2009 Agreement by unclemaths(op): 9:53pm On Jan 18, 2017
Abuja – The Federal Government on Wednesday in Abuja assured of the full implementation of its 2009 agreement with the non-academic staff unions of Nigerian universities.
They are National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non – Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, gave the assurance at a reconciliatory meeting with The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the unions.
The unions had jointly declared their intention to embark on a five – day warning strike effective Jan. 16, 2017.
Ngige said the issues in contention were not different from those of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), adding that government was handling the issues holistically.
“The essence of this meeting is for us to agree to suspend your strike; we are doing so because, we know that you are very patriotic citizens of the country.
“You will understand that man hours lost in any industrial disputes is never easily recoverable. You know that a lot of the issues in disagreement and in contention are being addressed by the Ministry of Education.
“But what was just lacking was that you were not communicated that a formal meeting where these issues will be discussed as par social dialogue as recommended by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), did not take place.
“I want to assure you that I have no doubt that after we have discussed the issue in contention; you will find that it is very necessary for you to suspend the strike as the issues raised by your unions are being addressed.
The issues raised by the unions are poor governance and administrative lapses in the university system, poor funding of universities, shortfall in payment of staff salaries and increasing corruption in the university system.
Also listed were inadequate physical infrastructure and abandoned projects, lack of adequate teaching and learning facilities and the non-payment of Earned Allowances being product of the 2009 Agreement, among others.
Mr Sani Suleman, Acting Chairman of JAC said that the unions decided to embark on the strike because “we have written letters to the Ministry of Education but no response or acknowledgment.
“The last one we wrote was on Dec. 8; we gave 35-day ultimatum so as to allow them to have enough time and even call us for a meeting but to no avail.
“So, after consultation with our principals, we decided to express our displeasure to government by declaring a five-day warning strike.
“We also want to express our displeasure on what was allocated for education in 2017 budget, it has continued to drop.
“It is our responsibility to ensure that we have resources for education so that our universities can be recognised worldwide”, he said.
He called on the minister to ensure that all issues in the 2009 agreement were fully implemented.
Mr Peters Adeyemi, Deputy President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said the strike declared by the unions was to draw government’s attention to issues in the university system.
Adeyemi said that the unions were willing to collaborate with the Federal Government in ensuring that the issues were resolved.
The representatives of Ministry of Education and National Universities Commission, among others, attended the meeting.

Industrial Court Sides with SSANU, Urges FG to Obey Agreement with Union
 
In an attempt to restore industrial harmony between the federal government and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja yesterday said it was incumbent on the federal government to implement the collective agreement it reached with SSANU in 2009.
In the judgement delivered by Justice N.N. Esowe on the matter brought by SSANU against the government and the National Salaries and Wages Commission, on the interpretation of the Collective Bargain Agreement, the court ruled that given that the federal government was the proprietor of the federal universities as contained in the agreement, it should bear the full responsibility of both the capital and recurrent cost of the universitys’ schools.
The court held that any other interpretation or order apart from the above as well as any circular emanating from any other place contrary to the principles of agreement will be null and void and would amount to progressing in error.
“The Collective Agreement itself was an agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities. This means that the rights and obligations imbued under the agreement relates these parties of the collective agreement.
“In paragraph one point two of the Collective Agreement, the Federal Government of Nigeria is described as the proprietor of the federal universities and the agreement itself was signed by the Chairman of the team of Pro-Chancellors, Chairman, FGN/SSANU Re-negotiation, Chairman, Committee of Pro-Chancellors Re-Negotiating Committee and the Pro-Chancellor, University of Lagos and the National President of SSANU.
“If the Federal Government of Nigeria is the proprietor of federal universities, then reference to the universities must necessarily be referenced to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The 1999 Constitution in Section 3181 defines government to include the government of the federation or of any state or of a local government council or any person who exercises power or authority on its behalf.
“Public service of the federation means the service of the federation in any capacity in respect of the government of the federation and includes service as staff of any educational institution established or financed principally by the government of the federation.”
The Court in the judgement stipulated that, “The federal government should implement the terms of agreement in terms of item 10 (1) and (2),” the judgement read.
The court also explained that the matter before the Industrial Court was for the court to inquire into the trade dispute existing between SSANU and the Federal Ministry of Education and National Salaries Income and Wages Commission over the dispute.
The term of reference from the Minister of Labour to the Industrial Court was for the interpretation of item 10 (1) and (2) of the Collective Agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and SSANU in November 2009 in view of circular of 27th August 2014 issued by the National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission.
The Collective Agreement had stated that the he Universities shall bear the full capital and current cost of the Universities Primary Schools.
Justice Esowe said “The term of reference to the National Industrial Arbitration Court was to interpret item 10 (1) and (2) of the November 2009 Collective Agreement actually signed on the 5th November 2009 within the contest of the circular issued by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission. What this means is that this court cannot go outside its terms of reference.
“The function of the court here is one of interpretation as such one of a question of law.
Reacting to the judgement, Counsel to the National Income, Salaries and Wages Commission, Chigozie Iwuoha said that the government would go through the judgement to analyse it to know the next line of action.
He said: “We are to study the judgement. If there is room for appeal, we will appeal it, if there is no room for appeal, we advise the government accordingly so that people will take the appropriate steps in implementation wise.”
Counsel to SSANU, Wofai Jimmy Robert said, “If the Federal government fails to abide by the judgement, we would most respectfully consider that as an irresponsibility on the part of the government.
“We believe that this is a country of laws and we have a government that has prided itself in the obedience of laws and the rule of law. If the government feels uncomfortable with the ruling of the court, as their counsel had rightly said in court, they know what to do.”
He stressed that the import of the agreement in very simple terms was a collective agreement entered between the Federal government and various unions in the educational sector in 2009, adding that from the judgement, the Federal Government was responsible for all University schools generally.
“With the advent of the current administration particularly in view of the challenges we have economically, the Federal Government decided that they shouldn’t be responsible for particularly the recurrent cost of university secondary schools in order to at least cut the cost of funding those schools.
“But our argument was that if the Federal Government had entered into agreement by which they said that they would undertake to fund schools established by universities, it would amount to a breach of that agreement.
“So, the basic crux of this matter was that we came to court to interpret that agreement to the effect that Federal government has the responsibility to fund these schools but the capital expenditure and as well as the recurrent expenses for those schools particularly in respect to the primary schools.
“The point is that the federal government is responsible for funding staff schools in the universities and any such act which will detract from doing so will be regarded as irresponsible on one the hand and the breach of the agreement on the other hand.
“The court has just held, vindicating the position of our law that the federal government is responsible for funding those schools and if it refused do so or even any act aimed at stopping such funding is a nullify, basically that is the summary of the judgement.”
Speaking on the judgement, the National President of SSANU, Comrade Samson Chijioke Ugwoke, said the verdict was a landmark judgement.
He said: “This is a landmark judgement and I will say that I am happy because, the judiciary is still the last hope of the common man. The judgement of today goes a long way to vindicate SSANU and myself as the President of SSANU.
“I am happy also that this judgement has given hope to thousands of our SSANU members and millions of Nigerians.
“There was a kind of confusion caused by some irresponsible elements within the government circle that querying the actual meaning of the clause of this agreement. Before 2014, there had been no confusion or disagreement on the position of government and SSANU in this case.
“A responsible Civil Servant, a responsible government cannot sack people and throw people into unemployment by a way of trying to save money. Government has sone social responsibilities it has to give to the people and part of it is employment.
“The appointments of these officers they are sacking is the same body of council that that signed the appointments of the Vice-Chancellors and any other Professor in the University.
“They passed through the same process of employment in the university system and some recalcitrant ones, the overzealous ones felt that they should throw the teachers away, they are no longer Nigerians, they are no longer citizens of this country, they are no longer bona fide staff of the universities because they have powers and authorities.”

@Saicology212: Hi.. This is definitely a vacuum leak. And ur attempted solution not only caused the problem, but is worsening it as a consequence of "more of the same" remedy. Not ur fault though.
Now, CARBURETOR CLEANERS are very dangerous if wrongly used. True, they solve one problem but then create others.
When you take ur car for service, you probably asked the Mech to clean ur injector. Instead of carefully removing these and manually clean them up, some mechanics will just spray CARBURETOR CLEANERS thru the hoses in the PGM-F1. This would clean ur NOZZLES like 25%... and create leaks in the PGM-F1 housing.
SOLUTION:
1. Clean up the GOVERNOR
2. Remove the top cover of ur PGM-F1, cut out a smooth "washer" from a thick paper, apply black gum to both surfaces of the washer and screw back the PGM-F1.
Pls, insist on these steps. I hope ur Mech is not an "ITK"

Car TalkRe: Help My Car Doesn't Steem Fine In The Morning by unclemaths(m):
1. Are ur plugs clean/brown or are they black? If black, then clean ur nozzle.
2. If car backfires, replace your fuel filter ASAP.
3. Is ur exhaust quiet enough? Good exhaust Pannel beaters can help you check for leakages. ALSO, ASK UR PANNEL BEATER TO CHECK IF UR INDOMIE IS STILL THERE. One mechanic took my ride to his workshop for minor repairs. By time he brought it back, exhaust sounded louder. Found out that he stole d indomie and replaced with wire netting.
4. Also, ur air filter could be clogged. Check first. Then, get it cleaned up.. or replaced.
5. Your Oxygen sensor too should be in good shape..
Your engine needs Total Internal Combustion to steam and perform optimally. With 10Litres of fuel, u should ride 100km within d city and more when travelling or on express.
Tell us how it goes.. Best Wishes.
